0:12 current conditions cold snowy and icy
0:12 this is gonna make things interesting
0:20 not exactly the type of road conditions
0:20 I prefer driving in to be honest
1:03 the sun's rising it is beautiful to look
1:03 at but not the best to commute in
1:06 especially when you're doing a
1:08 long-distance journey through the
1:10 backroads might have to change up the
1:14 play and just a little bit today just a
1:18 little
1:24 I'm really liking these long shots of
1:24 the trains in the distance
1:27 this one has a shimmering lake in the
1:31 foreground
1:52 crossing over the Arizona state line for
1:52 date number nine of my nine day road
1:55 trip
2:01 welcome everyone Adam is whoo here I
2:01 have deviated from my original thought
2:04 process due to the weather elements ice
2:07 on the streets and the roads I don't
2:12 think my rental car would do best
2:14 sliding off of a thoroughfare getting
2:17 lost in the back roads of the state so
2:21 what I'm gonna do is take Interstate 40
2:24 across and veer off at each exit some of
2:29 the ones that have historical items some
2:32 roadside attractions which have closed
2:34 over the years and just see what has
2:37 become of them it's a little safer
2:39 inviting you to join me shall you most
2:43 likely will see the conditions clear up
2:45 as I had westward if I would have
2:48 ventured into this region where I
2:51 originally had planned probably would
2:54 not have been so would have been heavy
2:57 duty to say that for another time of the
3:00 year and for now a different path
3:05 starting off with this gas station which
3:07 has seen better days
3:14 and adjacent is this gift shop which
3:14 appears to have the front door is
3:16 accessible
4:07 at one time this was full of objects you
4:07 could purchase as a tourist driving
4:10 through a Pepsi machine wow look at this
4:21 bank vault
5:03 you know there was a time many years ago
5:03 that I stopped off here and parts of
5:06 this were open for business not the
5:09 pancake house but the gift shop right
5:12 over there was active now the entire
5:16 premises is closed out
5:35 it is always fascinating to think about
5:35 what makes these places fall completely
5:38 by the wayside why they close up and go
5:42 out of business
5:58 it's very faded but states reserved for
5:58 mail bus Monday through Saturday for
6:05 courage was the name of this place
6:14 probably has quite a few people stopping
6:14 off to take photographs it's right by
6:16 the main interstate
6:22 I like the little guy painted up there
6:22 on the water tower
8:31 according to this signage they are
8:31 remodeling that's interesting
8:43 this could be seen in the John Carpenter
8:43 mid 80s film star band Jeff Bridges was
8:47 in that and they shot a couple of the
8:49 scenes right inside that structure just
8:58 down the ways a bit is this beauty
9:15 some of the enclosures and cages still
9:15 exist this little staircase
9:39 unbeknownst to most travelers on the
9:39 interstate probably don't realize a lot
9:41 of this is back here including this
9:44 cavernous area and a Radiator Springs
9:48 esque bridge that's pretty much
9:53 unaccessible from the freeway well I
9:55 take that back
9:56 suppose you can drive across it if
9:59 you're feeling Derek there is a dirt
10:01 road dirt path the leads out to it with
10:04 any abandoned location you have to
10:06 wonder what it was like when it was
10:07 thriving and people were just bustling
10:09 all around here it was a long time ago
10:13 must be careful of this barbed wire
10:15 don't want to don't want to get hung up
10:19 in that as relics look pretty cool with
10:23 the mountains off in the distance those
10:25 icy peaks and the trucks going by the
10:29 rapid pace
10:47 some of the other buildings on property
10:47 just up the hill probably a hundred
10:49 yards or so up the hill not really much
10:52 left of that when the a-frame has
10:54 collapsed a lot of an ass
11:11 it's been ages as forrest gump ran by
11:11 this trading post cafe
11:15 it's obviously not in operation anymore
11:18 but the building's still here as well as
11:21 these iconic landmarks still holding
11:26 strong can't really say for how much
11:29 longer however they are starting to
11:33 decompose just a little bit twin eras
12:14 this is a diner portion over here is
12:14 where the guests would have set on the
12:15 counter had their meal it's fallen over
12:19 still has that nostalgic retro Americana
12:22 vibe to it I don't he follow the spray
12:26 paint and behind the weeds
12:29 they served hamburgers and breakfast
13:07 I always like stopping off in this
13:07 little town when I'm on this pathway
13:14 oh goodness I don't know what happened
13:14 here this guy's in the dog ass
13:20 and who the heck is in this window why
13:24 what are you staring at oh my goodness
13:37 don't want to be misbehaving around
13:37 these parts you'll end up in the 1860
13:40 Arizona territorial Jail
14:09 got him a cowboy hat and a lasso
14:09 madalasa careful sitting in the seat of
14:14 this automobile it a little prickly and
14:22 it looks as if the snow is pretty much
14:23 cleared up from here on out a smooth
14:27 sailing
14:45 that's gonna do it not only for today
14:45 but for this nine part series where I
14:49 accomplished a different state each and
14:54 every day throughout the course of the
14:56 tenure of what you have witnessed
