0:02 welcome everyone
0:02 adam the woo here as a recording of this
0:04 sunday may 1st
0:07 2022
0:09 cheers
0:14 had every intention
0:14 starting the intro
0:16 with that train
0:18 that is now stopped down there passing
0:20 by behind me
0:22 under the majesticness
0:25 of this
0:26 nevada mountain
0:29 landscape however it stopped
0:32 so now i'm standing here consuming this
0:34 piping caffeinated beverage that i have
0:36 procured from a gas station was 449 a
0:38 gallon
0:40 500 miles precisely to the t from where
0:44 i stayed at my hotel last night to where
0:46 i'm heading the destination on the west
0:48 coast i'm inviting you
0:51 to join me i'm not going to move from
0:52 the spot just in case that's also wow
0:54 that's interesting join me
0:56 shall you not only is the train now
0:59 moving forward
1:02 but there's some heavy machinery on top
1:04 of said train
1:10 picking up stuff
1:10 i have never seen that before
1:21 is it just cruising across the
1:21 countryside
1:22 picking up debris
1:25 look at that
1:28 i know i am easily amused but what the
1:30 heck
1:32 a moving train with workers with heavy
1:35 machinery on top of it
1:43 this is fascinating
1:45 or i just haven't quite woke up yet
1:47 and i feel like i'm in the dream world
1:52 i love it
1:54 building america
1:56 keeping
1:58 communities safe
2:12 okay it stopped now the train has
2:12 stopped
2:14 those are shifting around
2:22 and they move along this rail
2:39 and then gonna pick something up
2:39 what is it gonna pick up
2:48 a big chunk of okay logs oh it's like
2:48 railroad
2:50 wood pieces from the railroad
3:16 oh look at that thing shifting picking
3:16 up the weight it's a lot of weight it's
3:18 picking up
3:20 and the other one down here don't forget
3:21 about this one
3:33 such beautiful landscape out here
3:33 i don't know if i'd classify this as
3:35 snow it's 36 degrees
3:38 right now but it's very slushy and the
3:42 wind is just i guess this is snow
3:44 okay it looks like snow
4:03 warmed up a little now that i came out
4:03 of the elevation a bit
4:16 no precipitation at the moment pulled
4:16 off an exit and onto an unpaved road
4:24 to a very unique area called thunder
4:24 mountain park
4:27 right here
4:34 it's going under a restoration project
4:34 says enter
4:36 at your own risk
5:04 this is right here can be seen from the
5:04 interstate now this section is all
5:07 fenced off
5:08 not only with
5:10 the chain link style but also with
5:12 barbed wire
5:14 lots of signage saying do not go over
5:16 into there
5:17 wow
5:25 it's almost like a bottle house
5:25 similar to watts towers in watts
5:27 california
5:29 i've seen a few places across the usa
5:31 look
5:32 similar
5:33 kind of salvation mountain vibes but not
5:35 really
5:46 nice train going by
5:46 the other side of the interstate
5:54 definitely has that bottle house look
5:54 going on to it as well
7:35 see behind that glass bottles that are
7:35 in there
7:36 and up on the roof
7:39 there's a bottle house at knott's berry
7:40 farm
7:42 there's a lot across the u.s but there's
7:44 one there that you can
7:46 you can see i've visited it many times
7:48 over in their little ghost town area
7:51 and written right on the side of this it
7:53 says thunder mountain nevada
8:04 thunder mt
8:04 nav
8:59 slightly eerie being out here alone i
9:01 gotta be honest
9:03 i know the traffic's going by at a very
9:04 rapid pace
9:14 other than that it's kind of kind of odd
9:14 feeling no one out here but me
9:22 has a very skeleton-like quality to it
9:26 there's some information here on chief
9:28 rolling mountain
9:30 thunder
9:38 who is the one who spent a lot of time
9:38 building this place
9:43 says here
9:43 monument is built from a collage of cast
9:46 off items
9:47 that was be described to society as junk
9:53 all collected within a radius of 50
9:55 miles
10:02 of where it is now located
10:02 there's also other stuff scattered
10:04 around the property not just the stuff
10:05 that's fenced off over there
10:07 stuff like this this automobile
10:10 also some other classic car alerts over
10:12 there in the distance
10:14 and
10:15 looks like the caretaker
10:16 who watches over the property over there
10:18 in that little rv
10:21 so it is someone on site taking care of
10:24 the place
10:47 out here in this very beautiful
10:47 landscape
10:49 mountains off in the distance got a
10:51 station wagon down on this end
10:54 and the plane an airplane
10:57 perched on that tire up top there
11:01 i don't believe this swing would hold my
11:03 body weight nor am i am i going to try
11:05 it
11:06 but there is a swing here
11:10 pull-up bar
11:57 this says the hostel
11:57 dated 1971.
12:20 definitely not structurally sound to be
12:20 climbing up there
12:29 a lot of just remnants from this
12:29 just a shell of probably what it once
12:31 was
12:32 at least this section
12:34 even some fire damage over here
12:45 this is off to the wayside of the fenced
12:45 off area
12:47 over there
13:00 it's like somebody else showed up
13:00 walking over there
13:03 also i'm noticing over here
13:05 on the way out
13:06 over near the caretakers
13:09 rv
13:14 is that a cat up there
13:14 some sort of animal going after a bee
13:16 hive
13:18 or a wasp nest
13:21 or hornet's desk
13:45 still continuing west
13:45 drove probably another 30 minutes or so
13:51 off to another
13:51 side access road
13:54 but i'm noticing
13:56 over here
14:02 is a decayed property it has
14:02 definitely seen better days
14:10 take a look at that thing
14:10 how is that even still standing
14:13 it's a ginormous building
14:20 it's just been kind of gutted out
14:20 next to that junkyard
14:22 and now over to fernley nevada
14:26 drove a little bit further
14:31 parked in this area with these boulders
14:31 here
14:32 and speaking of boulders
14:36 is some artwork made out of large rocks
14:40 a turtle
14:48 there's the turtle's face right there
14:48 body torso
15:06 it's also another piece of art down
15:06 there in that gazebo looks like a flower
15:15 the desert tortoise
15:15 as stated right there
15:17 just a random wall
15:46 ah it's called bottle cap gazebo
15:46 maybe it's not a flower oh bottle cap
15:49 gazebo transform discarded bottle caps
15:52 reclaim lumbered steel the beautiful
15:53 structure for all enjoy 75 000 bottle
15:57 caps
15:58 made this
16:00 if i had not read that i would not have
16:02 realized this flower
16:04 this desert flower
16:06 made out
16:08 of bottle caps
16:33 it was bottle house type materials back
16:33 a ways at that one place
16:37 and this is the bottle caps making up
16:39 the leaves
16:41 and other items
16:47 of this piece of artwork
17:06 that building is very spaceship
17:06 earth-like
17:08 make definitions
17:10 over to sparks now
17:12 you see the traffic of the thoroughfare
17:14 going by up there very quickly
17:16 so i pulled off the exit
17:19 to notice this
17:20 a spider-like creature
17:23 that's also a vw bug
17:36 the top of this mechanic shop well it's
17:36 a performance shop
17:47 arachnophobia
17:47 the automotive edition
17:50 was john goodman in that movie not the
17:52 automotive edition but
17:55 arachnophobia it's been a while i
17:56 watched it
18:12 don't want that to sink
18:12 into your skin pulling into victorian
18:15 square
18:16 look at this old prospector right there
18:19 standing tall
18:21 this parking lot is closed off
18:24 and appears as if
18:26 the tony armstrong amphitheater
18:30 is no longer open
18:41 looks like they could
18:41 have had a shakespearean
18:43 play or two here on this stage
18:47 got the murals up top got the train
18:49 there
18:59 almost looks like an airplane but i
19:00 think it's supposed to be a train
19:14 and then a heart that has the town's
19:14 name on it sparks
19:23 and the way progress works is you have
19:23 an art deco new building
19:26 placed in front of
19:28 an historical building
19:31 as that jeep goes by
19:46 it looks like it's now
19:46 a
19:47 restaurant or a bar of some sort but
19:50 the wr adam's son jeweler and gift
19:52 science is still up there ah yes an
19:55 agricultural inspection station that can
19:58 only mean one thing
20:00 i'm in california i've crossed the state
20:02 line this is a pile of snow here all
20:04 piled up and this is an even bigger pile
20:07 of snow not like movie
20:10 like magical snow that you see on you
20:12 know a tv show or
20:14 in a feature film that looks beautiful
20:17 which snow is beautiful when it's
20:18 falling but after the fact when it's all
20:21 scraped up into a big pile
20:24 ninety percent of the time this is what
20:26 snow
20:28 looks like and those who live in snowy
20:30 areas
20:31 have to see all the time so they're
20:33 probably when they're watching
20:35 a movie they're probably thinking oh i
20:37 really wish that's how snow always
20:39 looked but snow
20:40 all piled up like this
20:43 i have stopped off at this little
20:46 i'll call it a rest stop area
20:48 but this is on donner pass road
20:53 that's right the donner party also
20:55 crossing the state line into
20:58 where was my former home granted i'm in
21:00 northern california
21:02 but i moved out of my anaheim spot in
21:04 november ended november so very last day
21:07 or two of november of last year i have
21:10 not been back in california
21:13 since then the
21:14 longest tenure and probably eight years
21:18 that i have not been in this state you
21:19 know
21:20 to most it would seem like that's not
21:22 that big of a deal you know it's only
21:23 been half a year
21:25 but it kind of hit me going back in
21:27 in a weird way i miss living in
21:30 granted this like i said this is
21:34 oh yeah okay get in the fields get the
21:35 feels get the memories flooding back in
21:37 now i have no immediate plans
21:40 to move back to california and heck it i
21:43 don't even know if i ever will
21:45 but if i were to it would not be for a
21:48 very considerable long time a very happy
21:50 in celebration florida and the rather
21:52 large sculpture i was walking up to
21:54 there was a placard here with
21:55 information about it
21:57 is dedicated to pioneer families honors
22:00 all who follow the truckee river route
22:03 in california it was unveiled in 1918
22:06 and stands as one of the most historic
22:09 sites
22:10 nearby
22:11 trapped in snow during the winter of
22:13 1846 to 1847
22:16 nearly half of the donner party
22:20 did not make it
22:23 and if you're familiar
22:26 with what they had to resort to for food
22:56 we have it pretty easy these days
22:56 in comparison
22:57 to how it was back then
23:06 travel wise
23:06 and many in many other ways
23:08 but think of traveling just get in the
23:10 car get on a plane
23:13 hiking through mountains
23:16 risking
23:18 life and limb
23:24 even
23:24 little danny torrence from the shining
23:28 knew about the donner party
23:30 you mean they ate each other up
23:34 he saw it on the television
23:42 i don't know who i was imitating it was
23:42 supposed to be nicholson
23:44 inside the little visitor center there's
23:46 a bear right here says please do not
23:48 touch the bear and a rock formation that
23:51 they've created
23:54 inside here as well
24:02 that's a pretty good display given the
24:02 history of the donner party
24:24 and then it transfers over into an
24:24 adventures in travel
24:26 here talking about road trips and travel
24:29 that's what i'm on i'm on a road trip so
24:31 in a way it's all kind of a tie in here
24:35 got a fish down here
24:37 here's a beaver
24:44 that is a bee that is a stuffed beaver
24:44 there's a rabbit back there
24:47 an owl
25:02 there's a ground squirrel
25:02 a western gray squirrel
25:05 oh here's a
25:06 northern flying squirrel
25:09 there's a raccoon
25:12 up here's a short-tailed weasel
25:18 a snowshoe hair
25:18 and a bobcat
25:21 just a little tie-in about progress and
25:23 how things have changed and progressed
25:26 a lot simpler now
25:29 look at them up there just trying to
25:30 find their way
25:32 so many problems
25:34 and then modern day
25:37 just a
25:38 fuel station back there open for
25:40 business
25:42 we have it pretty dang easy right now
25:46 all of us do in comparison
25:52 i'm letting that sink in i'm pretty
25:52 grateful for
25:54 living my life and
26:00 not having the trials and tribulations
26:00 that our forefathers and
26:03 those that came before us had to had to
26:05 deal with
26:06 we got we all got a pretty dang good
26:09 and it seems almost
26:11 unfeasible
26:13 when i drove a little further i saw a
26:14 sign that says this downgrade
26:17 goes on for 40 miles
26:20 a 40 mile downgrade to get down to
26:23 lower elevation
26:26 that's wild
26:27 side note i also need gas so i'm going
26:29 to stop here at donner summit
26:32 gas station fuel up
26:34 now if all the gas prices in california
26:37 are gonna be six dollars and nineteen
26:39 cents a gallon
26:40 that's gonna be
26:42 this is gonna be a fun
26:52 it's gonna be a fun journey officially
26:52 the most money i've ever put into a gas
26:55 tank
26:59 82.62 cents i believe for about a 13
27:00 tank my
27:02 that my car holds
27:09 maybe it's just because this is kind of
27:09 out in the middle of nowhere kind of
27:11 sort of there this price or maybe this
27:12 is all of california
27:15 either way
27:20 i'll have a story always to tell six
27:20 dollars and 19 cents a gallon
28:02 i have made it to my destination
28:02 i am really looking forward tomorrow
28:05 not having to drive 500 or more miles
28:09 which has pretty much been par for the
28:10 course
28:11 on this road trip since i left
28:12 celebration florida i have arrived in
28:15 northern california i covered some
28:17 ground kind of went
28:19 in a route that i usually do not take to
28:22 the west coast usually i will take
28:24 interstate 10 interstate 40. rarely do i
28:28 go all the way up loop around and then
28:30 up back down almost like up and over
28:32 into
28:33 i-80 and across i'm glad i did i got to
28:36 see a lot of things definitely it was on
28:38 a time crunch
28:39 to get to where i'm at
28:41 more than i should have been i should
28:43 have left maybe a day or two prior also
28:45 should add in the temperature
28:48 scenery and all that change considerably
28:51 not very windy here
28:53 mid 70s
28:55 it was mid 30s this morning when i awoke
29:01 quite
29:01 quite a different array of scenic
29:03 wonders going across the country
29:06 in the last series of days
29:08 and weather temperatures
29:10 i like it that way though keep saying
29:11 good keeps things interesting
29:13 thanks for watching i really appreciate
29:15 it it kind of kind of got a little
29:17 emotional when
29:18 i went through donner pass into
29:21 california have not been here in almost
29:23 six months give or take six months
29:25 since
29:26 into november
29:28 2021 so
29:31 2022 california i've arrived granted
29:36 california nonetheless got a little got
29:38 a little felt some felt some emotions
29:42 i'll see the next video
29:44 the vlog this road trip is continuing
29:46 there's still a long way to go before i
29:48 go back to florida
29:49 a lot's happening and there'll be some
29:51 surprises in there
29:54 driving
29:57 to and fro
29:59 hopping around
30:01 might even get on a plane or two
30:07 it's gonna it's gonna be a wacky road
30:07 trip i'll see the next video the vlog
30:09 i've talked that says so much yet i'm
30:10 said so little the vlog
30:12 is over
