0:02 here's a book Little Johnny you need to
0:02 read this you need to read that
0:07 book like there's no tomorrow I'm not
0:10 talking about tomorrow I'm talking about
0:12 today and today happy Saturday I'm
0:15 actually standing right in front of the
0:17 Aquarium of the Smokies Ripley Believe
0:21 It or Not
0:23 owns that aquarium a lot of people don't
0:26 associate Ripley who of course a lot of
0:28 people remember from the Believe It or
0:31 Not books and the series and the TV
0:33 shows they actually own and operate 8
0:38 different attractions here in Gatlinburg
0:42 Tennessee which is just up the mountain
0:45 about 5 miles from Pigeon Forge so if
0:48 you're ever in the area yesterday I was
0:51 actually given a little backstage tour
0:53 by Ryan the general manager want to give
0:55 a little shout out to him and say thank
0:58 you for the awesome tips about
1:00 Gatlinburg some of the behindthescenes
1:02 stuff not only of the aquarium but of
1:05 Gatlinburg some of which I'm going to
1:07 try to share with you now and I'm
1:09 probably going to botch up disclaimer
1:13 alert I that person is honking at me I
1:16 am not an expert on Gatlinburg history
1:21 but I however have people that watch my
1:23 travels and I would love to share some
1:25 interesting facts and figures with me
1:28 that people have shared with me so
1:30 curiously I'm going to tell you about
1:32 some of the wonderful things here off of
1:34 the main touristy drag of Gatlinburg
1:38 traffic light number five is right there
1:40 traffic light number six is right there
1:44 you can actually see posted is the
1:47 number six so if you ever come to
1:49 Gatlinburg stop here go in the aquarium
1:52 tell them Adam the woo sent you and then
1:54 after you do that come over here and
1:56 check out the cabin of Martha Ogle it's
2:01 right there the oldest cabin in
2:05 Gatlinburg and we're talking centuries
2:08 old early
2:10 1800s and it's right up there and I'm
2:13 going to go up there and show you we're
2:14 going to start off this Vlog by showing
2:17 you the cabin right here in
2:26 Gatlinburg hope you're excited it's my
2:26 second channel daily Vlog channel it's
2:28 the daily trolley stop the good thing
2:30 about gatl and Pigeon Forge is they
2:33 actually have trolleys that run through
2:35 town which actually only cost about 50
2:38 cents to go quite a distance so you can
2:40 actually get some pretty good deals
2:42 there aren't a lot of taxis in this town
2:44 it's a very laidback southern town
2:47 population of only 4,000 however there
2:51 are tens of thousands of people that
2:54 stay here every season gazillions that
2:57 is not an accurate assumption of how
3:00 many rooms there are but in my mind I
3:02 would say there are gazillions of hotels
3:05 all along that strip fantastic roadside
3:08 attractions tourist goodness and all
3:11 kind of other fun things to do when it
3:14 comes to tourism as you know I love
3:16 theme parks I love roadside attractions
3:18 I love wacky weird things that involve
3:22 touristy objects that I love in my life
3:25 however this Vlog is going to be about
3:28 the area of Gatlinburg parts of the
3:30 areas gatlinburg's kind of spread out
3:33 but I want to show you at least the
3:34 stuff that I can walk to that next time
3:36 you're in Gatlinberg park your car or
3:38 take the trolley either from Pigeon
3:40 Forge or from wherever you're staying
3:42 whatever Hotel you are and come check
3:44 out the historic Ogle
3:48 cabin this is the actual cabin from the
3:52 early 1800s the first settlers of
3:55 Gatlinburg were the ogles and they built
3:59 this right right along this little
4:01 stream or a river I'm going to tell you
4:03 a lot of things that I'm probably going
4:05 to get incorrect so definitely fact
4:07 check me do your own research and please
4:10 leave some comments down below or go to
4:12 Facebook Instagram or Twitter especially
4:14 Facebook back/ the daily woo and post
4:17 some articles about the stuff I'm
4:18 talking about if I have misinformed you
4:21 or if I am correct give me a pat on the
4:24 back a high five virally through the
4:28 internet and social networks and tell me
4:30 what you think of these Vlogs so let's
4:32 go check check out the Ogle cabin look
4:35 at
4:41 this now you're probably wondering what
4:41 year exactly was this Built Well I
4:43 before I started filming I walked over
4:45 here to the door and I saw what I
4:47 thought was an
4:50 address normally on the front of your
4:52 home or your friend's homes or whoever
4:54 else's home that You' visited there's
4:56 normally either on the mailbox or wedged
4:59 across the door is an address stamp
5:02 however I do not think that is the
5:04 address I think that is the actual year
5:09 1807 that this cabin was built right
5:13 here
5:15 1807 look at the moss growing across the
5:18 top of the roof there here's a placard
5:22 that they established in 1970 dedicating
5:26 this
5:27 1807 cabin I believe the naal historic
5:31 registry actually what is the word when
5:34 they actually Christen something in 1986
5:37 this become became a National Treasure
5:41 here in the good old USFA in Gatlinberg
5:44 a really like gurg I was discussing
5:48 yesterday with Ryan over at the aquarium
5:51 about the difference between Pigeon
5:52 Forge in Gatlinburg and I was equating
5:55 it to Walt Disney World and Disneyland
5:58 if you've been to Walt Disney World and
5:59 Disney Disneyland you know the Walt
6:00 Disney World is massive it's very awe
6:03 inspiring when you first go but the more
6:04 you go to Disneyland it starts to feel
6:06 more homey and actually a lot homie the
6:08 clown every time I say homie I always
6:10 think of homie the clown so basically
6:12 the difference between Walt Disney World
6:14 and Disneyland they're both fantastic
6:15 places just like Pigeon Forge is
6:18 fantastic but it's massive it's spread
6:20 out where Gatlinburg is more like a
6:22 Disneyland to Disney World comparison
6:26 Gatlinberg is a very small area you can
6:28 park you can walk down the strip you can
6:30 walk to almost everything or take the
6:32 trolley it's a definitely more of an
6:35 intimate area so that's my comparison if
6:38 you're wondering what the difference
6:39 between Gatlinberg Berg and Pigeon Forge
6:42 it very cold out here by the way I'm
6:45 wearing this Elvis shirt I think day
6:47 number four in a row I wore this same
6:50 shirt I really badly need to do laundry
6:54 so laundry is definitely going to be on
6:57 my mind however you'll probably see me
6:59 wearing the shirt tomorrow cuz I don't
7:00 know if I'm going to do laundry today
7:02 I'll be going to Dollywood later to
7:03 check out the lights tonight is today is
7:05 the first weekend of Dollywood where
7:07 they're doing the light so I'm going to
7:08 go check that out I wanted to show you
7:10 something else right over here in the
7:12 form of a tree not this tree exactly but
7:15 the other tree that you're seeing
7:17 Straight Ahead this is kind of a local
7:21 historical landmark not officially but
7:25 in the hearts and minds of those who've
7:27 lived in Gatlinburg for their entire Liv
7:29 Liv I want to show you this tree real
7:31 quick before we venture up the mountain
7:34 behind the main tourist
7:49 STP so this whole area is going to be
7:49 renovated into a shopping mall of some
7:52 sort some sort of an area a touristy
7:54 area and within years from now I don't
7:57 know how many years a few years this
7:59 will all be renovated with shops and
8:02 wonderful things when it involves
8:05 tourism so a lot of the locals the old
8:07 school people do not want this tree
8:11 right here look how fantastic that tree
8:12 is they do not want that tree removed in
8:15 fact this school right here has actually
8:18 gone a step ahead and actually put the
8:20 fence see how the fence goes around the
8:23 tree they actually put the fence where
8:25 it actually goes around the tree instead
8:28 of through the tree so that kept the
8:29 tree here so far and I was told through
8:33 heay that some of the locals are going
8:35 to have what they qu call a quote
8:37 unquote sit in in the tree which means
8:41 if the bulldozers come in some of the
8:43 locals hypothetically a little birdie
8:46 told me that maybe some people will be
8:49 sitting in that tree some of the locals
8:50 are so hardcore affectionately drawn to
8:55 that tree that they will be festooning
8:57 the branches and and not letting the
9:00 bulldozers knock the tree down which is
9:02 a very awesome story when you think
9:05 about it's like something out of a movie
9:07 or something out of a tale of old your
9:10 grandfather would tell you tals Yarns of
9:13 people that were that dedicated to the
9:15 history of that town and stuff like that
9:17 still exists here in Gatlinburg which I
9:20 think is really cool so now we're going
9:22 to head up the mountain it's not really
9:25 a mountain it's just kind of a hill but
9:27 when you're driving down the main drag
9:29 the main drag are all those Ripley
9:31 attractions there's the Guinness Book of
9:33 World Records attractions there's a lot
9:35 of miniature golf courses a lot of fudge
9:38 they saw a lot of fudge and Candy along
9:40 that main drag a little Mountain Mall
9:44 over there the world of Illusions is
9:47 over there couple other places I'm going
9:49 to do main Channel videos of and other
9:51 Vlogs on The Sky Ride is over there but
9:53 we're going to venture off right here at
9:55 traffic light number six so park take
9:59 the probably wherever take this road at
10:01 traffic light 6 go look at the tree go
10:05 look at the cabin and then
10:08 Walk This
10:18 Way and as you're coming up the hill
10:18 from the cabin turn right here into the
10:23 village this is the back nether regions
10:26 if you will of a little shopping area
10:28 called The Village
10:30 one thing about Gatlinberg that's crazy
10:31 too and Pigeon Forge they have tons and
10:33 tons and tons of pancake breakfast
10:36 places the people love there's one place
10:39 here in the village right over there you
10:40 can see the smoke coming out of that
10:42 Smoke Stack there is a line of about a
10:46 hundred people waiting to get their
10:48 share of Pancakes and it's right over
10:50 here to the right if you look down there
10:53 you might be able to see some people
10:55 yeah look there's the line holy cow
10:57 that's the back in portion of the line
11:01 this whole area here kind of reminds me
11:03 of world showcase at Epcot which is
11:06 really cool if you look at some of the
11:07 old buildings stuff which is the sock
11:09 shop there so we're going to go up here
11:12 look at this look at that little thing
11:14 right
11:15 there all right let's go up the
11:23 hill sometimes this is probably locked
11:23 when it's very snowy and icy however
11:25 it's unlocked today so walk through here
11:28 walk up the hill
11:30 straight up
11:32 this and you can see the leaves changing
11:35 it was snowy here last week very very
11:37 very snowy they probably had this closed
11:40 when it was super snowy but you can see
11:42 the leaves changing up there see the
11:45 back top areas of the businesses
12:03 we are now above the storefronts and the
12:03 businesses on that main drag
12:11 Gatlinburg so after you visit the cabin
12:11 after you visit the tree walk through
12:13 the Village Walk up this hill and there
12:16 is an old awesome Cemetery right here
12:20 look at
12:28 this this is one of the oldest
12:28 cemeteries you will probably ever see in
12:31 person so if you're in
12:33 Gatlinburg depart from the strip of all
12:36 the hotels and the parking and the
12:38 roadside stuff which is awesome and get
12:41 a glimpse of History right
12:44 here it's time for your 10 or 15c moment
12:49 of quietness brought to you by me here
12:52 at the White Oak Flats
13:51 hope you enjoy that moment of quietness
13:51 I've been trying to do that in a lot of
13:52 Vlogs I do talk a lot so I'm trying to
13:54 incorporate about 20 or 30 seconds into
13:56 each Vlog of just the experience the
13:59 iance and the sounds of what I'm
14:01 witnessing when my mouth is not
14:03 yammering on annoyingly and rambling
14:06 you're probably wondering why is this
14:08 called White Oak Flats Cemetery when we
14:11 are in Gatlinburg because White Oak
14:14 Flats was actually the original name of
14:18 Gatlinburg proper before the town
14:21 changed the name to Gatlinburg in fact
14:24 back in 1830 when the cemetery was
14:27 erected and dedicated it was the town
14:30 which you see over here before all these
14:32 hotels Sky rides and roadside
14:35 attractions came in it was called White
14:39 Oak and The Story Goes hypothetically do
14:43 some research on your own I would
14:44 actually like to learn a little bit more
14:45 about this as well so if you can figure
14:48 out the facts by looking online try to
14:51 figure out what is hearsay and what is
14:52 truth I think and what I've been told
14:56 through few people that white oak
14:58 changed the name to Gatlinburg cuz there
15:00 was a general store owner way back in
15:03 the day between the changing of the
15:05 names and his last name was Gatlin and
15:09 he was a very rambunctious annoying man
15:12 that no one in town liked in fact he was
15:15 feuding with basically his neighbors and
15:18 the rest of the Town folk so the town
15:21 wanted to run him off of the property of
15:25 white oak so they came to kind of either
15:27 a verbal agreement or probably a written
15:29 agreement and he told them if I leave
15:32 town I will never come back however you
15:36 have to legally change the name to
15:38 Gatlin Berg because my name my last name
15:42 is Gatlin so research that story and
15:46 tell me if that's true would that even
15:47 work in this day and age if you were so
15:49 incredibly annoying that people hated
15:52 you and they told you get out of town
15:54 and you said change the
15:56 name to my last name do you think they
15:59 would do that if you lived in New York
16:01 City and your last name was Smith would
16:03 they change it to Smithville just
16:05 because you're the most annoying New
16:07 Yorker or if you live in Boston where
16:09 they change the name of Boston to
16:10 Smithville who knows but that's
16:13 basically how that story originated and
16:16 it might be true and it's up to you to
16:19 research that fact here in White Oak SL
16:24 Gatlinburg vicariously because some of
16:26 you watching this probably have never
16:28 been here some of the locals from here
16:30 are probably watching this and like I
16:32 was saying I'm not a historian I'm just
16:34 going off what people tell me what I've
16:36 read online I love to learn things as
16:38 well I'm not trying to pronounce to the
16:41 people out there that I know everything
16:44 there is to know about everything I only
16:46 know probably about 133% of the facts
16:48 and figures that I tell you but there is
16:51 something I do know I'm talking about
16:53 the grave the memorial marker of Martha
16:57 J Ogle
16:59 right there 18 and 27 is when she passed
17:04 away and this is actually the grave and
17:06 the placard and the memorial of the
17:09 woman whose cabin I first showed you at
17:11 the end of the Vlog at the beginning of
17:13 the Vlog this is where she's buried
17:16 right here of course some people say
17:18 she's not buried here they say it's just
17:20 a memorial a lot of the other ogles are
17:23 all buried all through this Cemetery so
17:27 some people are hesitant about saying if
17:29 she's actually buried here or if this
17:31 just is a memori memorial they built in
17:36 1827 so very interesting a lot of old
17:39 Graves very very cool a lot of old
17:41 graves in the Smoky
17:58 over imagine a cemetery dating back to
17:58 to 18 and 30 of this magnitude that you
18:01 can just walk out to you don't need
18:04 permission just walk up the hill and
18:06 check out some of these awesome
18:08 gravestones memories of the past history
18:12 of the Smoky Mountains and Gatlinberg
18:28 I really like this there's a whole area
18:28 here dedicated to the ogles and you can
18:30 see they have a massive pillar there a
18:33 massive gravestone and I'm guessing
18:36 eventually this will be filled with all
18:38 of the ancestors that are still alive of
18:40 the ogal all right in this area but I
18:43 was looking at this here this is
18:44 actually really cool it's a tree stump
18:46 with this really awesome old school
18:49 gazebo on top of it
19:01 that's so awesome with the sun coming
19:01 over the horizon here oh look at
19:04 this this is actually cool too a little
19:06 woodworking against the side of this
19:08 tree two little chairs and some kind of
19:11 a spindle do not want to prick your
19:13 finger on that nail oh that would not be
19:17 good woo do not want to prick your
19:20 finger on that nail but look at all
19:22 these old Graves
19:32 lot of history and a lot of awesome
19:32 stuff here in the Smoky Mountains the
19:34 Great Smoky Mountain Park National Park
19:37 is actually right over the horizon about
19:39 a couple miles outside of Gatlinburg but
19:42 before it was a national park speaking
19:43 of the Smoky Mountains I want to end
19:46 this Vlog with the grave of a fantastic
19:49 Legend SL folk hero that a lot of people
19:52 in other area of the country have no
19:54 idea about but his grave is right here
19:57 I'm talking about the roaming man of the
20:00 mountains
20:01 Wy Wy Oakley look at this there's his
20:06 grave born in
20:08 1885 it doesn't have a date stamp of
20:10 when he passed away but I think he died
20:12 around 1950 1960 is probably incorrect
20:16 on that but I think that's around when
20:18 he died Wy
20:21 Oakley the Roman man of the mountains he
20:25 wasn't a Roman like when in Rome but he
20:27 was a roming but see here in the South
20:30 they don't use G's r o a m i n with no G
20:35 so he was just a Roman Man of the
20:38 Mountain a local hero a folk lore hero
20:42 if you will a very young age his mother
20:45 passed away he was very distraught and
20:48 he pretty much dedicated his life to
20:51 adventuring to traveling to roaming
20:54 through the Smoky Mountains which gave
20:56 him the name the roaming man of of the
20:59 mountains he always thought the the
21:01 farther and the higher he climbed up
21:03 into the mountains the closer to Heaven
21:05 he would get to see his mother maybe get
21:07 a glimpse of his mother he would see the
21:10 clouds and he would always think to
21:12 himself that the white bushy clouds were
21:14 part of her clothing that she would wear
21:16 she'd always wear white clothing and he
21:18 always Associated that with the bottom
21:20 of her dresses or her skirts or her
21:22 pants or her clothing so he was always
21:24 dedicated to his mother and because of
21:27 the weariness after she passed away way
21:29 and him in his time of need he decided
21:32 to start traveling and roaming and he
21:33 never stopped and he became basically a
21:36 rider and a historian and a guide
21:38 through the Smoky Mountains which
21:40 eventually led to and be became the
21:43 Great Smokey Mountains so Wy Oakley the
21:49 ogal
21:50 graves the
21:52 tree where people are going to be
21:53 sitting up in the limbs if they tear it
21:55 down and the cabin that's a lot of
21:58 history that has nothing to do with
22:01 tourism here in Gatlinburg so when you
22:04 come to Gatlinburg for the touristy
22:05 stuff which I am all for definitely make
22:07 sure you go check out the aquarium the
22:09 other Ripley stuff and a lot of the
22:10 other awesome things on the main drag
22:12 however take some time for yourself take
22:15 some time for the Smoky Mountains come
22:17 up here view some of these
22:19 Graves especially the Wy Oakley grave
22:22 which is really awesome and the memorial
22:25 over there to Mrs Ogle
22:31 the best things in life are free and
22:31 everything that I just showed you in
22:33 this Vlog costs nothing all it costs for
22:37 you to come here and check it out or you
22:39 can watch this Vlog which also costs
22:42 nothing so basically you gotten a free
22:44 quote unquote free dose of entertainment
22:47 if you will hopefully you will entertain
22:50 let's talk about something personal now
22:52 things in my life originally today I was
22:54 actually going to go to Knoxville to a
22:55 convention called the Fanboy convention
22:58 however I'm actually not going to be
23:00 able to make it over there today I've
23:02 actually extended my stay here in
23:04 Gatlinburg until Thursday Wednesday
23:07 they're doing a chili cook off here
23:09 which I love chili so I will not be
23:11 missing the chili cook off they're
23:13 closing the streets down and they're
23:15 doing their once a year festive
23:18 tradition of turning on the Christmas
23:19 lights so I will be here until Thursday
23:22 originally I was going to stay till
23:23 Monday but I have been prompted and
23:26 talked in to staying until Thursday
23:29 also instead of going all the way to
23:30 Knoxville it's about an hour and a half
23:32 drive from here spending a lot of money
23:34 at this convention and probably because
23:36 there's some celebrities there I wanted
23:37 to meet I'd probably spend some money
23:38 for some
23:39 autographs and says temptation is not
23:42 good with me I've decided stay away from
23:45 that instead I'm going to go to
23:46 Dollywood today so if you're at
23:47 Dollywood later I'll be there at
23:49 Dollywood tonight Dollywood is doing
23:51 their Christmas light turn on today they
