0:03 today's adventure begins at this closed
0:03 down store
0:06 it's in the shape of a boat
0:08 right here off of i-4
0:10 heading from celebration to tampa st
0:12 pete florida
0:13 right off the interstate
0:15 as a recording of this february 27th
0:18 a sunday
0:20 and i am heading
0:22 to a concert this evening
0:25 in saint pete florida
0:36 very unusual that this is
0:36 right here off the side of the road and
0:38 welcome everyone
0:39 adam the woo here hot water music is a
0:43 band from gainesville florida
0:46 from richmond virginia if i remember
0:48 correctly avail
0:50 both of them
0:52 i have seen at least 20 to 30 times back
0:55 in the 90s
0:57 around florida when they were tour
0:58 together
1:00 any something i thought would never
1:02 happen the band of vale has gotten back
1:04 together and are doing a reunion of
1:07 sorts even though they've done one or
1:08 two i never
1:10 in my lifetime
1:12 thought i would see them again on stage
1:14 and they are back in one of my favorite
1:16 punk bands
1:18 at janus landing
1:19 i think it's called janus live now in st
1:21 pete i'll be going there this evening
1:22 and i'm heading over a little bit early
1:26 and i'm just going to kind of dive into
1:27 some some history of some of the shows i
1:30 used to go to in ybor city tampa and
1:33 saint pete prior also this piping hot
1:35 caffeinated beverage it's kind of
1:36 lukewarm now because i gotta leave in
1:38 celebration i've already been driving an
1:39 hour
1:41 along with an intro i'm inviting you
1:44 to join me
1:46 shall you okay getting back on the
1:48 interstate passing by dinosaur world a
1:52 staple here off of i-4
1:54 heading to ebor
2:00 eboard city now this episode will not
2:00 have a lot of personal nostalgia to it
2:03 for example mcintosh road here
2:06 my old car i had overheated on the way
2:09 to an offspring vandal show in the mid
2:11 90s at the fairgrounds stuff like that
2:13 i'll be kind of peppering in and going
2:16 into the historic district of ebore
2:18 check out these old trolleys right here
2:20 ybor city has these neat retro trolleys
2:23 pretty cool now this whole area went
2:25 through a revitalization in the late 90s
2:28 back in 1996 where this buffalo wild
2:31 wings
2:32 is
2:33 was a music store called the blue chair
2:36 where i went to a couple of
2:38 shows
2:39 at the blue chair
2:40 and it appears as if it's the same
2:42 building they just put the buffalo wild
2:43 wings inside it and walk over there and
2:45 look and the groups i saw
2:47 one lineup was texas is the reason and
2:50 game face game face really love game
2:52 face a lot and texas is the reason
2:54 really good bantu revelation records
2:56 also doc hopper and dead guy were in
2:58 here which is kind of a mixed lineup
3:00 because one of them was a very heavy
3:02 you know very heavy metal type of band
3:04 the other one was pop punk and i found
3:05 this photo online of a band loading
3:07 their equipment in and you can see off
3:09 in the distance the buildings are still
3:10 the same as well as the little
3:12 patterns on the concrete and if memory
3:15 serves me correct obviously this was
3:16 1996. it was this one over here that
3:19 that you would load in and the stage was
3:20 up against that side wall through this
3:23 very door right over there and i do know
3:24 not everyone is going to know these
3:26 bands or these places but for anyone
3:28 that does maybe they would enjoy seeing
3:29 this and i'm kind of stepping back into
3:32 the time in my life that
3:34 a little bit different than it was a
3:35 long time ago and i obviously know there
3:37 were other venues i probably will not be
3:39 showing other shows i did not go to
3:41 these are just memories that i had i
3:43 used to work at publix during that time
3:46 frame of my life i would go to concerts
3:48 way out here drive all the way back to
3:50 saint cloud quite a hike
3:52 i worked on the overnight stalkers
3:54 sometimes i go into work at 4 00 am i
3:55 would get back into saint cloud at 3am
3:58 take a little cat nap in my car
4:01 and then go into work
4:02 back in those days i didn't need sleep a
4:04 lot has changed since then now i need a
4:05 good six seven hours night of sleep back
4:07 then i was running off about a half hour
4:09 to an hour
4:10 ought to be young again and a lot of
4:12 flyers and even video footage in there
4:14 can be found online
4:15 gotta love the fact that some of that
4:17 exists like this band the parasites and
4:19 then also discount which i saw you know
4:22 probably 50 times through florida
4:24 usually in melbourne or orlando but they
4:26 also played at the blue chair the singer
4:29 of discount allison went on to be in
4:31 dead weather with jack white
4:33 fun fact also looking at a still from a
4:35 video from a great pop punk band around
4:37 here called the crumbs
4:39 which i used to really like i'm noticing
4:41 that window see if i can match that
4:43 window up to current day as i drive back
4:45 by all right behind that lamp post is
4:47 that window so it means the stage would
4:49 be on the other side of this wall
4:54 so you got the entrance
4:54 probably over there it's been a few
4:56 years so
4:57 that window matches up oh take a look at
4:59 this
5:00 mario
5:02 located here at this building
5:05 at 14609 north nebraska here in tampa
5:08 just on the outskirts of tampa
5:12 was the stone lounge looks considerably
5:14 different than i remember it
5:16 back from those days i went to quite a
5:18 few shows one including total chaos
5:21 saw them drove over from
5:23 saint cloud or kissimmee wherever i was
5:24 living at the time
5:26 saw them here epitaph records
5:30 that band was on that label saw the
5:32 queers here but there was an interesting
5:34 story about there from lookout records
5:36 that record label has disbanded the
5:38 band's still around
5:39 however
5:40 that show i was not able to get inside
5:42 of because it was sold out
5:44 i could not get in there and the door
5:47 guy would not let me in
5:49 and after pleading just say look i drove
5:51 like two hours over here can i just go
5:53 in and buy a t-shirt
5:55 it was a firm no
5:58 and kind of looking at it from this
5:59 perspective i cannot recall where the
6:02 stage was
6:03 possibly this could have been the load
6:05 indoors for the band equipment
6:07 but it stretched this entire it was a
6:09 pretty big venue
6:10 and so many
6:12 musical artists played here a lot of
6:14 bands played here
6:16 over the years
6:17 this is a pretty popular place the stone
6:19 lounge
6:24 looks totally different at least the the
6:24 exterior does almost unrecognizable not
6:27 because
6:28 of any other reason than just a time
6:30 factor you know
6:32 as i've gotten older your memory starts
6:34 to slip away a little bit especially
6:35 something that's a couple decades or
6:37 more older that's probably the big thing
6:40 plus the other facade has changed just a
6:42 little bit there's a big truck parked in
6:43 front of here
6:44 no touring groups musicians
6:47 have played in there for quite a while
6:48 didn't go to this one but imagine seeing
6:50 smash mouth if you look if you listen to
6:52 early smash mouth it was a lot more
6:55 rocking than the hits they had
6:57 a little bit later on of course sick of
6:59 it all
7:00 orange nine and look who the opening act
7:02 was corn
7:05 you know corn is very popular now they
7:07 would probably headline this show if
7:08 this was modern day
7:10 i saw orange nine of the first warped
7:11 tour also that was 95 over at the
7:13 fairgrounds
7:14 and of course since phil the singer of
7:15 sinsfield has since passed on
7:17 great band saw them a couple times but i
7:19 didn't see them at this video but i did
7:21 see them
7:22 while they were still
7:24 still around oh this is a good job i
7:26 found all these online
7:28 glad someone posted them snapcase great
7:31 revelation band if i recall
7:33 and culture which was a
7:35 hardcore band from central florida
7:38 i remember seeing them as well but they
7:40 played here at stone lounge but i saw
7:41 them at other venues he's got a lot of
7:43 shows i also want to mention the
7:45 building stretches all the way down to
7:46 this side the entrance could have been
7:48 here on this end
7:50 could have been down there where i was
7:51 standing on that in
7:53 but it also could have been on this one
7:54 it's like i said it's been a few years
7:56 i've slept since then i forget thanks
7:58 made it now over to north 30th street
8:01 this was the home of the pegasus lounge
8:04 fast forwarding a little bit to 2003
8:07 when i started playing music in a band
8:10 right in here was the pegasus lounge now
8:12 there's a food and deli
8:14 store in the same spot and just off on
8:16 the way over there are the roller
8:18 coasters from busch gardens
8:20 in tampa and i'm mistaken the pegasus
8:23 was not where that food store is now the
8:25 convenience store at the end
8:28 the pegasus
8:30 was right here at one
8:32 zero zero zero eight
8:35 is the address it's now called the new
8:38 but when i started playing music 2003 i
8:41 was in a band called 10 new toes became
8:44 a new threat
8:46 before i went on to join other bands
8:48 and kind of a lot of the local shows
8:51 that we would play would be in saint
8:52 cloud in orlando but we'd also developed
8:55 a little bit of a following over here in
8:57 tampa thanks to a band by the name of
8:59 elysium who would always kind of hook us
9:02 up with a lot of shows
9:04 so one zero zero eight one zero zero
9:08 eight not to be confused with the
9:10 pegasus
9:12 there's like a liquor store that's a few
9:14 miles from here i put that address and
9:16 it's definitely not this this
9:19 is the pegasus lounge
9:21 that i played probably i don't know 30
9:23 or 40 shows here
9:27 pretty good decent following i say
9:28 decent maybe like 50 100 people would
9:30 show up to see us which i consider
9:32 pretty good for like a local band
9:35 sign it was here at poinsettia plaza
9:39 now i never went to any concerts here i
9:41 only played them myself
9:43 inside there
9:45 but this is it now called the new lounge
9:47 tampa's hottest
9:49 bar and lounge according to the sign
9:51 i think this here even though it was the
9:53 technical address was zero eight i think
9:55 this was the load-in door
9:57 and the stage
9:59 no this was okay yeah here's the stage
10:00 right here look i still see the stage
10:02 down there so the stage would have been
10:04 here you can even see me
10:06 and the window waving so the stage would
10:07 have been right behind here facing that
10:09 way so that would have been the loading
10:11 door and that would have been the door
10:13 you know that you pay the
10:15 person at the door was taking the money
10:17 funny thing too
10:19 i do recall being the drummer of that
10:21 band at the time john
10:22 we were both very thin
10:25 thinner than i am now and we would
10:27 squeeze through these bars and say look
10:30 we can squeeze through these bars
10:31 there's no way i'd be able to squeeze
10:33 through this now i would get stuck in
10:35 here
10:37 that is so funny even thinking about
10:39 that from 2003.
10:42 this is only like i don't know i'm
10:44 always really thin there notice the
10:46 faded out lettering there
10:47 starting with the p there for pegasus
10:50 would have had the the pegasus mascot
10:52 here on this little silhouetted
10:54 silhouette outed section and then lounge
10:58 down here
11:03 as as stated it never went never went to
11:03 any shows never went to any concerts
11:05 where i went and saw anyone perform
11:06 other than the other bands that would
11:08 either play after us or before us
11:11 but i did take the stage here a lot of
11:13 times at the pegasus
11:17 now a totally different venue
11:23 and these bars are still here
11:23 i can also still recall it's coming out
11:25 going out sometimes
11:27 you know in between bands
11:29 and looking over at busch gardens saying
11:31 oh it'd be pretty cool
11:32 one day to go over and ride some
11:34 coasters
11:36 you know before a show we never did it
11:37 though because it was such a long drive
11:39 long hike over here
11:41 getting here early loading and playing
11:42 the show what time we would get home
11:44 would be you know three or four a.m
11:45 back over to the orlando area oh i am
11:47 also incorrect on this
11:49 it is like their pegasus bar lounge
11:51 signs still there
12:01 that's pretty cool and you can hear the
12:01 screaming over at busch gardens
12:04 and the coasters off in the distance
12:06 that is cool signs still there at least
12:08 here by the road ah yes
12:10 good memories of the past here in tampa
12:13 forgotten all about this place honestly
12:15 until i was heading over going to the
12:16 show i'm going to tonight
12:18 came up with the idea
12:19 just kind of show a little history of
12:21 i've done band stuff in orlando and i've
12:23 showed some of the venues around there
12:24 that i saw
12:25 concerts at and you know played shows
12:27 out but never in the tampa area so
12:30 i'm kind of glad i thought of that
12:32 this was cool to see this but i should
12:34 get moving on though because yeah you
12:35 gotta notice this here don't want to
12:38 stick around here too long might that i
12:40 don't know how how bad they enforce that
12:42 i've only been here for a few minutes
12:44 but maybe i don't know would that be
12:45 loitering oh take a look at that over
12:46 across the street
12:49 it's a doc brown painting mural nice ah
12:53 the downtown tampa skyline i'm gonna
12:55 pass by that though go over to safety
12:57 and before going over the saint pete
12:59 bridge from tampa stopping off at this
13:00 mall they ended up having
13:03 some tampa bay rays merchandise got kier
13:06 meyer here and a rosarina
13:09 i mean i already have a few raised
13:10 shirts but there's not really a good
13:11 selection over by where i'm at in
13:13 central florida so whenever i get over
13:14 here to the tampa side i always try to
13:16 load up
13:17 just wish the baseball season would
13:19 hurry up and start and this lockout
13:20 would end that would be nice classic car
13:22 alert approaching
13:24 and a couple more up here
13:26 going over the bridge three classic cars
13:28 in a row now i got off of the freeway
13:30 onto mlk and the corner of
13:34 third ave north there's a beatles all
13:37 you need is love mural over there
13:39 now this i could not find any info as
13:42 far as a quick search i might have to
13:43 research it a little bit later more
13:45 thoroughly
13:46 but just using
13:49 you know the thought process or muscle
13:50 memory if you want to call it
13:53 uh
13:53 back in the day when i would
13:55 go to shows right over through here this
13:58 rings a serious
14:00 bell through here
14:02 in fact i believe that this was the spot
14:06 could have been this church could have
14:08 been this
14:09 artisan spot or
14:11 this food store on the end
14:14 somewhere in here one of these roll-up
14:17 doors was a venue
14:19 like i said i did a quick search could
14:21 not figure out what it was but i saw afi
14:24 with i believe ensign
14:27 e-n-s-i-g-n and also another time i saw
14:30 ignite here and another time
14:33 i saw straight faced now it could have
14:36 been
14:37 at the next one southern california
14:39 straight faced
14:40 they were on
14:41 i think they're on victory records for a
14:42 while epitaph they were on epitaph
14:44 anyway
14:45 so over there it could have been over
14:46 there but i am going to say 99 sure it
14:50 was one of these roll-up doors was a
14:52 venue i think it was even a scar fest at
14:55 one time
14:56 in here because i recall talking
14:59 to davey havoc from afi at one
15:01 particular time as well as
15:03 johnny from straight face and i can
15:06 remember this in the background with
15:08 their tour van right here on both
15:10 occasions talking to both those guys and
15:12 that was before afi got really really
15:14 popular obviously in fact the first tour
15:16 afi ever did
15:18 was down the road opening for a band
15:20 called gutter mouth which i ended up
15:22 joining that band
15:24 about a decade ago probably a little
15:25 more than a decade ago i was in that
15:27 band for
15:28 two or three years at a bunch of tours
15:29 but before that this is back in the 90s
15:32 the first tour they ever did they took
15:34 afi out
15:35 with them
15:37 and that was at the state theater so i'm
15:38 gonna go over there and find that but
15:40 i wish there was a local around that
15:42 would know was this this used to be a
15:44 venue right here now called arts food
15:46 store or possibly this one but this
15:48 looks this this area looks very familiar
15:51 it's kind of it's ringing a serious bell
15:53 right through here no idea what the name
15:55 of the venue was what the name of the
15:56 club was how long it survived but i did
16:00 go to at least three maybe four
16:04 right here on this corner and i'm not
16:06 ruling out it could have been one of
16:07 these buildings could have been one of
16:09 those
16:10 over there as well
16:12 but leaning towards that just based on
16:16 you know based on that that over there
16:18 just you know it's weird how your mind
16:19 works and you can just go back
16:23 to a time even though it's a couple
16:24 decks three decades ago give or take ah
16:26 it's all coming back to me now my
16:28 roommate rob that i had at the time we
16:30 were roommates for a long time we would
16:31 always you know go and support bands on
16:33 the scene travel all over bands would
16:35 play here like i said afi one time
16:38 ignite another time and then straight
16:40 face another time we would always drive
16:42 his car you take my car which usually
16:44 overheated his car ran a little bit
16:45 better than mine but did not have a
16:47 radio so he had kind of a boom box in
16:49 the back with a cd player that ran off
16:51 batteries so almost every other day we
16:53 had to buy the big batteries and you
16:56 have to lean behind the seat
16:58 to play the cds ah there it is the trop
17:01 tropicana field
17:04 home of the tampa bay rays
17:06 some cars in the parking lot actually
17:08 quite a few cars in the parking lot
17:09 something else must be going on
17:12 it's not baseball though
17:14 baseball is delayed due to the lockout
17:17 the building across the way there is now
17:18 called the floridian but i remember it
17:20 as the state theater here in saint pete
17:23 a source of a venue for many many shows
17:27 that i went to over the years let me go
17:28 ahead and go around the back in fact if
17:30 i was to try to list all the different
17:32 bands that i saw there
17:34 since the 90s and on i would have a
17:36 tough time
17:37 even being able to do that
17:40 just a lot
17:41 not all on the same bill but at
17:43 different times
17:46 no use for a name
17:47 i saw in there face to face i saw it
17:49 another time
17:50 casualties at another time
17:53 got her mouth played here a few times
17:55 afi played inside of here
17:58 in fact that was the first tour as i was
18:01 mentioning back to the other place this
18:02 is having a hard time
18:04 riding the scooter
18:05 across this when no use for a name
18:07 played here one of the guys that i was
18:09 friends with
18:10 was friends with a lot of bands so we
18:12 got backstage and in the upper room
18:14 up there
18:16 above the stage looking down is a little
18:18 tiny room
18:19 up in the tippy top
18:20 of this former state theater and i got
18:23 food
18:24 against sickness
18:26 food poisoning
18:27 from a local restaurant and i was not
18:29 feeling very well and someone
18:32 in one of the bands there was three or
18:33 four bands on that bill either them or
18:35 their roadie or their merch guy or
18:37 someone thought it would be funny to
18:39 lock me in the bathroom
18:41 in the room up there
18:43 wasn't a very nice thing to do i was
18:45 very ill not feeling well so i don't
18:47 have the best
18:48 thought
18:49 how's it going there is a rather large
18:51 shark over here on the side
18:54 of the former state theater
18:56 does it look like the shark is about to
18:58 take a bite out of me
19:00 i think it does
19:04 i guess i could probably get a little
19:04 closer to it right
19:06 maybe over here
19:14 beware of sharks
19:16 and able to walk inside the state
19:18 theater as well from the front they did
19:20 let me go in and just kind of stand here
19:22 and get a little view of the stage i
19:24 wanted to point out that upstairs area i
19:27 was referring to where i got locked in
19:28 the bathroom and i had was very sick to
19:30 my stomach up there in that corner up
19:32 there where i'm pointing and they've
19:33 added they've really fixed this place up
19:34 nicely it's very very nice with the the
19:36 floor all with the checkerboard design
19:38 and all that and up top they still have
19:40 the balcony up here that was always here
19:42 the balcony is still up there and
19:44 there's my shadow and rolling through
19:47 saint pete going over to janice right
19:49 here off the side of the street the
19:51 street area you just you can see this
19:52 from the road itself
19:54 kind of looking up you see the flyer for
19:56 the evening
19:57 well it's like a poster size flyer if
19:59 you will it has the bands and 6 30 start
20:01 time and also if you kind of look back
20:03 in there there's some people in there
20:05 loading in the equipment the roadies and
20:06 whatnot getting it all
20:08 set up now this staircase
20:10 back in the mid 90s no effects came
20:12 through with bouncing souls on tour in
20:13 another band it was the heavy petting
20:15 zoo tour
20:16 and the merch guy for no effects had me
20:19 help out by giving away
20:21 survival of the fattest cds
20:24 from this stairwell i stood up on the
20:25 stairwell and kind of threw out cds to
20:28 everyone that was leaving leaving from
20:30 the show
20:34 never seen nothing like that before
20:34 double decker bike and here's the flyer
20:36 from janus from back in the day snfu
20:39 yeah i saw them a long time ago the
20:40 singer just passed recently
20:43 great band
20:45 another one at janus
20:47 i like these old-timey looking flyers
20:49 there's something very nostalgic about
20:51 them used to be a couple venues here on
20:53 the 600 block of central as well
20:56 one was called fubar and one was called
20:58 the local 662
21:00 both of them are gone now it is
21:02 interesting how some
21:03 shows and concerts nowadays certain
21:06 artists do not want you filming that's
21:08 probably not the bands that are playing
21:09 that might be a janice landing thing
21:11 if i'm able to take my cell phone i'm
21:13 gonna take the camera but if i take the
21:14 cell phone in i will insert footage now
21:17 of the band playing
21:18 both bands that are playing
21:21 first would be there's an opening act
21:23 and then a veil from richmond virginia
21:26 if it works out i will have footage of
21:28 that over me talking over this there's
21:30 just like a little short snippet a short
21:32 clip
21:32 of that and then
21:34 from florida gainesville hot water music
21:37 here i cannot remember the last time
21:39 available played in florida
21:41 still
21:43 i mean really you are
21:45 the amount of gratitude that we all feel
21:47 be well hot water music and the veil
21:49 feels
21:52 unprecedented thank you so much
22:03 all right show's over made it back to my
22:03 car
22:04 i i was seeing it a lot i knew i knew
22:07 every song from a veil which was great
22:08 uh i knew
22:10 all this all the songs that they were
22:11 singing
22:13 pretty well i think i've been listening
22:14 to them for many many years over a
22:16 couple decades so i think i have their
22:18 repertoire
22:20 down pat pretty good didn't really jump
22:22 in the pit too much kind of got up front
22:24 with everyone singing along
22:27 and whatnot towards the end there was a
22:29 pretty good little slam dancing circle
22:31 pick going on i almost jumped in there i
22:33 was like right on the edge
22:34 singing along kind of screaming but i
22:36 also had my phone out so i didn't want
22:37 to get my phone knocked over
22:38 as well as that but definitely worth
22:41 going to this show driving out from
22:42 celebration all the way to st petersburg
22:45 florida staying out a little late it's
22:47 gonna take me a while to get back but
22:48 definitely worthwhile
22:50 to see a band that honestly not only
22:54 seeing hot water music and also hot
22:55 water music played before available
22:57 avail was the headliner
22:59 which i was kind of expecting hot water
23:01 to be the the headliner but a veil they
23:03 played last maybe they're switching off
23:05 to maybe through the tour they were kind
23:07 of alternating who would be the
23:08 headliner nonetheless avail closed it
23:10 out and never thought i would see a veil
23:12 again i never thought i'd see a veil
23:13 again and i was able to they got back
23:15 together thankfully they got back
23:16 together to play a show after all these
23:18 years they did a reunion about a year
23:20 ago and some other states that sold out
23:23 immediately they didn't do one in
23:24 florida i wasn't able to go to the
23:26 out-of-state ones but i was able to go
23:28 to this one and i'm glad i did i'll see
23:30 in the next video the vlog
23:32 can you tell my voices a little bit
23:35 a little bit strained except i was
23:37 singing the vlog
23:39 is over
