welcome everyone Adam Lao Wu here
0:04
today's adventure brings us to beautiful
0:06
eastern Tennessee where a couple things
0:08
are going to be taking place some during
0:11
daylight hours
0:11
and some as darkness rears its head it's
0:16
gonna be fun
0:17
join me shall you trying to stay clear
0:20
of this this puddle if there's some
0:22
thorns ow
0:24
if you having into my side and right
0:27
here just gotta push him out of the way
0:29
and carry on I think it got me by
0:35
following the tracks panning just to the
0:39
side of it you'll notice there is an
0:42
epic train just sitting here under the
0:47
elements climbed up top I'm gonna step
0:50
into where where the magic happens oh
0:53
yeah but there hasn't been anyone in
0:56
here in years it's a tight squeeze as I
1:02
wander through high voltage gotta be
1:06
careful it's good to know that I'm the
1:08
first person in quite some time to
1:10
wander these premises yeah Jacob the
1:15
carpetbagger I brought a friend with me
1:16
you a Frick John from exploration
1:21
unknown I don't you want me to show you
1:23
around
1:24
yes why the heck was this just left out
1:27
here to rot right in the spot
1:29
well museum on this train and they used
1:31
it for tours and one day just broke down
1:33
and that couldn't afford to fix it so
1:34
they said to leave it the doors wide
1:37
open they're kind of a little train hop
1:39
in here there's a couple lady bugs
1:41
crawling around on the broken glass
1:43
they're still holding strong that piece
1:46
even though it's been shattered still
1:48
connected to the window first-class
1:51
looking very desolate at this particular
1:54
moment to be careful
1:56
that slams quickly now I know you opted
2:01
to sit but I was told there's raccoon
2:04
dung on that seat
2:14
Jacob didn't said either even if this
2:14
was running have a hard time getting
2:16
down the tracks the trees have grown
2:18
over it it's pretty amazing this is just
2:21
sitting out here all by itself and with
2:24
that got to be moving on to the next
2:26
spot
2:26
just up the road a few miles something
2:31
very impressive
2:32
the Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary
2:34
established 1896 before heading in
2:39
stopped off at the graveyard where the
2:42
inmates were buried after their death
2:46
the headstones have been removed but the
2:48
bodies still only ground destination
2:51
straight ahead a little Valley there
2:54
below the mountains that's the prison
2:57
itself going in even though it's no
3:00
longer active the security tower still
3:02
stands for now the gates locked
3:04
we're about to be let in for an
3:06
all-access nighttime tour all right this
3:11
is it first impression I think it's
3:14
going to be a quite an experience
3:17
heading inside here and meandering
3:35
oh whoa while there's still a little
3:35
light left head out into the courtyard
3:38
area basketball court there and the
3:42
hoops are still up as well
3:44
this was the laundry facilities and
3:46
everything still inside a unit press
3:50
machine that's the old school right
3:53
there you can put quite a big amount of
3:56
clothing
3:56
in these washers and the dryers are even
4:02
more massive look at the size of these
4:04
things
4:05
they look of the entire room from the
4:07
side angle standing in the corner
4:09
looking on this is different you place
4:12
the article of clothing on the left
4:14
there and then it just drags itself into
4:17
the mechanism on the right as the Sun
4:20
Goes Down temperature of the weather is
4:22
dropping it's quiet out here eerily
4:29
quiet barbed wire everywhere out here
4:35
for obvious reasons and the chapel used
4:39
to sit right here
4:40
signage are still there as well as the
4:42
cross this is the hole the infamous hold
4:59
what happens specifically in here so
4:59
this is almost like solitary confinement
5:03
the prisoners that's their names
5:06
counting down the years that they've
5:10
been here leaving their mark just Louis
5:17
of their variety of others
5:21
plenty of time in here to whittle away
5:25
at the walls the outside staircases four
5:28
stories and look just off to the left
5:31
side you see that razor wire just kind
5:35
of protruding upward and on the roof as
5:42
well starting on ground level and
5:45
looking upward when did they add the
5:48
wire mesh when the prison was still open
5:50
oh yeah just as a safety tactic thank
5:58
you yeah
5:59
going from 40 feet up straight down
6:02
would be not good right in here the man
6:18
that killed Martin Luther King spent
6:21
quite a bit of time laying right there
6:24
on those bunks using that toilet washing
6:29
his hands and that sink wow that is
6:34
pretty amazing I was noticing if you
6:39
point the light over towards this wall
6:41
this almost resembles a traveler a man
6:45
with a like a backpack of some sort like
6:50
just kind of made into the wall like
6:53
organically of sorts it's like a for
6:56
whatever reason I think that's what that
6:58
looks like in my mind this was used to
7:01
lock all the doors so if you pulled on
7:05
this hard enough every single block if
7:09
you look right here drop this hard here
7:17
and now allow the door to open so
7:21
there's two different locks on the doors
7:22
each door had to come in
7:24
and then they would use that walk them
7:26
all down a little desk that can be used
7:29
for writing as well and I'm noticing
7:32
written on the wall it states a coward
7:36
whether surrender then suffer a loss
7:41
real talk
7:42
I don't really understand that
7:59
it's a dead end here turn around and go
7:59
back we have his word they would work
8:02
out and play activities outside because
8:06
the d-block people would be let out for
8:08
one hour a day just one hour and it most
8:12
of the time is until the not so a lot of
8:15
the guys that were incarcerated here
8:16
never sell the Sun Wow four years do a
8:20
little boxing practice here you hang the
8:23
punching bags from those rusted little
8:26
platforms and this would be used for
8:28
like chin ups and pull ups perhaps this
8:32
little corner probably yes right Oh
8:36
doing the dips there and then this would
8:38
be the pull-up bar because I don't think
8:40
they're allowed to have freeways
8:43
inside here yeah oh it's like tripping
8:46
water like you could see it so you can't
8:50
go in but you can kind of just peek in
8:53
so this was death right oh wow so
8:57
everyone in there they all knew their
9:00
fate yeah well it makes it like extra
9:05
creepy without which is that rainwater
9:09
coming down
9:15
so I said these prisoners never saw a
9:15
table they would come out like one
9:18
o'clock in the morning then do their one
9:19
hour of outside and then come back to be
9:22
here for us 23 hours a day spend a sale
9:25
I are in a low tax looper he was a
9:28
Republican candidate for governor
9:30
legally teams isn't that middle name too
9:32
low tax because it was commitment to low
9:35
taxes and then he decided to take a
9:37
shortcut by straight-up murdering his
9:39
opponent and maybe recover the race and
9:42
you didn't win any race on the wall are
9:45
some pencil drawings someone with a
9:49
cigarette
9:50
behind bars right there it's inside
9:54
herself it's upside down from this angle
9:56
it's the carving spelling out hard
9:59
knocks has been inscribed there on the
10:03
medal
10:11
and in the book not the movie just the
10:11
best
10:16
that's an interesting look so Hannibal
10:16
Lecter was gonna be transferred here
10:19
fictionally so that's very I'm looking
10:22
at how much water was like showing to
10:25
develop on the ground there even though
10:27
it's locked up and currently off-limits
10:29
there is a way to get a view through
10:33
this little people and that door there
10:36
so you're looking at that is the death
10:41
chamber so the famous electric chair
10:44
known as old Sparky was originally
10:45
placed here however no one was executed
10:47
here in that chair since it was moved to
10:49
Nashville but a lot of people didn't die
10:52
here but that's a that's another story
10:54
they could send letters out or if they
10:57
had complaints they slid it into this
11:00
box labeled grievances
11:02
you know something happened they didn't
11:04
agree with they just throw their opinion
11:07
in the air and see if anything happened
11:15
if you're into the paranormal a lot of
11:18
ghost hunters use this cell which is
11:21
known as the smoking ghost and they'll
11:24
place a cigarette in here and just see
11:27
what happens in this cell and the one
11:30
next to it three inmates were shot to
11:35
death by a group of people who came in
11:37
with guns I stand corrected it's the one
11:40
next to where I was number 32 and there
11:45
is a cigarette that was not placed by us
11:49
it's here he the Ember there on the end
11:53
is still so prevalent but it's burned
11:55
out it's been it's been partially smoked
11:59
so you never know by who
12:01
this was the cafeteria and you'll notice
12:04
there are paintings and murals all along
12:08
the walls of one of the inmates who is
12:13
still alive and was asked to come back
12:15
and read
12:16
touch some of them up years after he did
12:19
them originally
12:20
Tim crosses his name and I'm guessing 98
12:23
is when he came back just make him look
12:26
a little bit a little fresher
12:28
I was just corrected he did not come
12:30
back to touch up the items that's why
12:33
some of them are still cracked thought
12:35
he did but I was corrected right
12:46
confused that would have been where the
12:46
kitchen was
12:47
and then this little side area we got
12:50
the future Andy Dufresne up there just
12:54
chillin you know he's got his boat on
12:56
the shoreline got to stay hopeful after
13:02
you slid your tray down the line
13:04
choosing an option for your meal
13:08
you made your way into the cafeteria and
13:11
took a seat back outside again you'll
13:22
notice there is no there is no walkway
13:25
under that door it was a catwalk that
13:28
stretched across from there to there
13:33
it's been removed over time that door to
13:38
the gymnasium was opened it is quite
13:44
expansive in here it's hard to say
13:50
there's no no interior lighting walking
13:54
up to the free-throw line stand here the
14:00
goal is the goal still there oh it's
14:06
been erased when James Earl Ray escaped
14:10
he was caught not too far after but it
14:13
made the news by taking a ladder jumping
14:16
over this fence well I should say wall
14:19
that attaches to a rock formation and at
14:23
the back end of the property above this
14:28
chain-link fence is the spot you see the
14:33
mountain rock formation there you see
14:37
the razor wire and prison wall that's
14:42
where the news photo was taken the man
14:47
who killed Martin Luther King escaped
14:48
from this prison over that wall in that
14:52
spot and this is the photo documentation
14:59
of that
15:17
the cave is rather large goes way down
15:17
there and they use this for for storage
15:19
that for food and whatnot and no telling
15:24
what else is right here
15:26
see the cliffs of the mountain right up
15:29
there and then down the hill just a
15:32
little bit we had to hike up that pretty
15:38
cool too
15:39
and you hear the river off in the
15:40
distance providing some ambiance
16:01
I lend a hand but I have to now go next
16:01
yeah I have to go
16:29
over there Oh crud a tear gas canister
16:29
up there it is guys this was from looper
16:33
sell me looper all sorts of wonderful
16:37
shanks to stab and beat and maim just a
16:40
gun right here that actually works
16:42
that's gonna do it for today and into
16:45
the hours of nightfall and darkness here
16:51
at this fantastic prison they are open
16:55
certain times during the day for tours
16:59
it was awesome to wander around in the

eve I'll put links to John and Jacobs
