0:02 today's adventure begins as a recording
0:02 of this sunday
0:04 january 9
0:05 2022 at the corner of the zip in
0:10 food store
0:12 in elabelle
0:14 georgia let me flip this around and
0:17 you welcome everyone
0:19 adam the woo here this is definitely
0:23 not a large but it is a piping hot
0:25 caffeinated beverage that i got from
0:27 said zip in store
0:29 located in this very tiny community on
0:31 the outskirts
0:33 20 miles or so of savannah georgia where
0:34 i stayed last night
0:37 and i'm just gonna go through some of
0:38 the the small towns and the rural
0:43 i always have trouble saying that
0:44 communities
0:45 around georgia before dipping in across
0:47 the state line today we'll be going
0:50 over to south carolina up into south
0:52 carolina
0:58 it feels great i'm glad that it's warmed
0:58 up a little bit 65 66 67 degrees on the
1:02 cusp
1:03 of those temperatures and i'm inviting
1:05 you
1:06 it's good being out here
1:09 join me
1:14 shall you might be tough to see where i
1:14 am
1:14 currently at the
1:16 the tip of this pin you can see where it
1:19 kind of in the little cusp
1:21 of the atlas book elabel
1:25 and state line is right up here
1:28 now later this evening
1:30 at some point i need to make my way over
1:32 to
1:33 to hilton head island
1:35 but first i'm going to kind of venture
1:36 through this area look at this there's a
1:39 little place over here called egypt
1:42 egypt georgia so this is kind of on my
1:45 radar right around in here and i'll
1:47 probably cross over the state line into
1:49 there and then venture around in these
1:51 areas so this could be a two a two for
1:53 state
1:54 two states in one day some of the back
1:56 roads that's the general layout of the
1:58 land anyway by looking at the atlas here
2:01 always good to have an atlas an actual
2:02 hard copy atlas
2:04 a lot of old homesteads around this area
2:08 most of which have seen better days
2:15 this one's still standing though
2:15 see the woods kind of decayed and the
2:17 overgrowth
2:18 has engulfed even the chimney area quite
2:21 a bit
2:26 notice there are some train tracks back
2:26 in there
2:29 might see a train today might not see a
2:31 train some of those tracks
2:34 are inactive and not in use anymore
2:37 so you see a lot of unused railroad
2:39 tracks
2:41 there's a possibility
2:44 across my fingers
3:07 this is a little area called lanier
3:07 turned on to somerford lane
3:10 discover this
3:12 old store
3:26 oh look around the back
3:28 looks like some bars on those windows
3:32 and a homestead next door over there as
3:34 well
3:34 a couple of quaint little stores here
3:37 this is mike's package shop
3:40 with the ice machine out front
3:42 and then over here is
3:45 grocers
3:47 and also a feed store
3:50 look at that little cabin there
4:00 i really like the painting here on the
4:00 side of this
4:02 farm and feed shop
4:09 and hardware
4:09 nice
4:19 there's a truck parked here but i don't
4:19 see anyone around
4:21 says closed due
4:24 to buck fever
4:45 maybe someone lives up top maybe that's
4:45 whose truck that is
5:01 i don't see anyone
5:01 there's a firestone tires place over
5:03 there too
5:05 another package store bnb
5:08 this community's name is blitchton
5:12 blitch
5:14 ton
5:20 very unique name for a town
5:20 there's a power sports
5:22 building
5:23 looks like ken's iga is the place to be
5:25 around here
5:27 yeah
5:28 quite a few people there now here's
5:29 something you don't really see roadside
5:32 on a daily basis
5:34 a cb
5:39 shop written on the front and the side
5:39 and has the antennas up
5:42 that old cb shop in the form of a
5:45 trailer
5:46 was parked here off the side of the road
5:56 you need to get any work done on your cb
5:56 if you have one in your truck this is
5:57 the place to do it right here in
5:59 blichton
6:00 i could have gone straight from savannah
6:03 up to hilton head which is only about an
6:05 hour drive but where's the fun in that
6:09 i always like to take the longer
6:11 more off the beaten path room
6:15 it's just more fun that way
6:17 i see over on that property against the
6:19 fence
6:21 got an american flag there
6:23 against the fence line
6:26 an old barn behind it too and it's a
6:28 private residence now but that old gas
6:30 station back there
6:32 has been turned into a home
6:34 and there's an old truck
6:37 right there in the yard too see that
6:38 little truck gotta wonder why that road
6:40 is closed
6:42 this is pionora
6:48 i guess i'm gonna go this way wasn't a
6:48 whole lot in that little area
6:50 continuing on definitely very beautiful
6:54 little scenic drive of tree limbs
6:58 and they just over the top of the road
7:06 like a canopy
7:06 beautiful trees
7:08 i love it
7:21 stopped in an area called guyton
7:21 g-u-y-t-o-n
7:23 i noticed this van
7:25 on the top of the van the top of the
7:26 rusted out
7:28 area of the van
7:29 is a light
7:32 possibly uh
7:34 a van version of an ambulance
7:37 that's just a just a guess probably not
7:39 true but that's just my first thought i
7:41 have some antique theater seats right
7:42 here corner of central boulevard
7:47 and lynn
7:49 bonds ave
7:51 it was very gusty it's like a wind
7:53 tunnel
7:54 through here and there's the water tower
7:56 the guy
7:57 g-u-y-t-o-n guy ton
8:01 water tower
8:10 and this is the little downtown stretch
8:10 right here very nice
8:18 gas station over here with some pumps
8:18 out front still the name max along the
8:21 side of the wall
8:23 right up there
8:24 max
8:27 not with an x with a ck
8:46 yeah this place has seen some years
8:46 also designated the yellowstone
8:49 train station or at least has the sign
8:52 with some corn back there behind the
9:18 into effingham now now when i pulled
9:18 into this area
9:19 saw the the sign heading in said what
9:22 the f
9:24 ingham but i wasn't going to say it in
9:26 the video
9:27 but now i'm noticing that that's the
9:29 slogan on the side of the wall
9:31 what the effingham
9:33 so i'm not the only one that thought
9:35 that probably a lot do
9:37 clever this is a really nice area
9:40 they have the town all fixed up very
9:42 nicely
9:43 there's a theater
9:45 right over there appears to still be
9:46 open
9:48 they have some some things playing later
9:50 on in the month
9:51 and this is right next to
9:53 the train tracks train tracks are right
9:55 behind these buildings
9:57 so i haven't seen a train today though
9:58 no trains yet
10:00 cross are some silos there
10:02 and a a hair cutter replace
10:06 and my shadow
10:14 decided to park and walk over here and
10:14 show the marquee
10:15 on this theater it's called it's called
10:18 the mars so you can see they do have
10:20 some stuff taking place i love the front
10:24 the annual historical preservation award
10:27 was also awarded
10:29 for the mars look at this
10:32 yes and even the
10:34 the neon appears to be on even during
10:36 the day
10:38 and the
10:39 little glass squares that make up the
10:41 front
10:43 yeah love that very retro
10:46 very retro looking as well awesome look
10:48 at that neon up top there
11:05 found this off to the side of the corner
11:05 of stillwell clyde road
11:08 or clio road and long bridge
11:11 road
11:12 as far as the coordinates go
11:14 and on someone's property
11:17 is a general store from the past
11:22 but i'll walk over here
11:24 off the side
11:26 also these strips here in the road
11:29 just to alert everyone that there is a
11:31 stop sign
11:33 going up
11:37 doesn't appear to be an attraction of
11:38 any sort or an active store
11:42 and it's on someone's home residence
11:45 nothing saying that it's any sort of a
11:47 business or museum or anything like that
11:51 and then over there
11:52 is a shed that has a lot of old
11:55 coca-cola memorabilia
11:57 so what i'm going to do is zoom in
12:07 smith's you can make out the sign there
12:09 the coca-cola the gas pump
12:13 this
12:14 antique vehicle
12:16 and then another signage up here saying
12:18 smith's
12:19 and the front porch
12:24 this reminds me so much if you've ever
12:25 been to epcot center
12:27 i highly recommend the american
12:29 adventure which is an attraction all the
12:31 way in the back of world showcase this
12:33 reminds me of that scene and that
12:36 the guys are on the porch wondering if
12:38 anyone's going to come through and get
12:39 any gas
12:45 very similar to
12:45 that style
13:15 i can see a train way down there it's
13:15 parked but there is a train on the track
13:17 and the lights on and the smoke stack
13:19 almost reminiscent of
13:21 michael myers home
13:23 i feel like loomis approaching this
13:24 thing yeah somewhere not exactly
13:28 from the carpenter halloween but
13:31 kind of gives those vibes
13:39 this was a store not a private residence
13:39 just guessing by the way the door
13:42 is there well i could be wrong
13:44 it could be could have been a private
13:46 residence but
13:48 look over here it's an old pump
14:09 looks as if there's a little swampy
14:09 goodness over here at ebenezer
14:12 creek
14:27 you know for a moment
14:27 almost look like cypress trees and
14:30 cypress knees that grow
14:32 but the more look look a little closer
14:34 they're not cypress trees
14:36 well there are some never mind there are
14:38 some cypress trees back there
14:40 these aren't cypress trees
14:42 but there are cypress trees back there
15:08 the bridge going over
15:08 might even have some tadpoles down there
15:12 in the water
15:27 i am really close to the south carolina
15:27 line
15:28 there is a church
15:30 that i'm going to kind of swing by
15:33 states as the oldest church in the
15:34 entire state right on the georgia
15:37 state line before you go into south
15:38 carolina and just through the clearing
15:40 in the woods there
15:42 is the building
15:44 as a recording of this it is a sunday
15:48 but it's already 2 p.m
15:50 so if the church did meet the
15:52 congregation has already
15:54 gone home after the morning service
15:58 there's also
15:59 the georgia
16:01 salzburger society
16:04 over here
16:17 as stated
16:17 the oldest
16:18 church
16:19 well building wise
16:22 here in the state
16:26 see if i can find a little more
16:26 information like a placard or something
16:28 like that that is
16:31 that's an impressive building
16:47 get a little info about the town of
16:48 ebenezer
16:49 which the river runs right past it
16:52 it was the county seat of effingham
16:55 county
16:57 and so served up until
16:59 1799.
17:02 when the courts were removed
17:05 when the courts were moved
17:07 to springfield i should say
17:13 now the building that sits here
17:13 is now the jerusalem lutheran
17:17 originally the bat that believe it was a
17:19 baptist church
17:21 organized back in
17:23 1734 the building itself was built in
17:26 1767
17:29 to 69.
17:44 i'm incorrect about it being baptist
17:44 it's the longest running lutheran used
17:47 to be called the
17:48 was this working
17:52 yes
17:52 that doesn't happen often
17:54 used to be called the old ebenezer
18:00 i wasn't expecting that to
18:03 put out any water sometimes a lot of
18:04 those old pumps don't work
18:11 i like the leaves
18:11 they're crunching under my feet
18:28 got the steeple
18:28 there as well and a swan
18:31 at the very top
18:33 pinnacle of the steeple
18:45 like a weather weather vane a weather
18:45 main
18:46 i always get those confused weather main
18:48 weather vane
18:49 some sort of weather something or other
18:52 or maybe a lightning rod could be a
18:54 lightning rod probably a lightning rod
18:56 1733
18:58 johann martin
19:00 bolt zeus
19:02 that's a good last name which chosen to
19:03 serve as the minister
19:06 so he spoke no english
19:08 and little of
19:10 salzburg dialect he quickly learned and
19:13 communicated well with the salzburgers
19:22 very interesting
19:22 and here is johann
19:32 pastor in ebenezer georgia
19:32 until
19:33 1765.
19:34 mr johann
19:53 and he's looking over at the building
19:53 that's obscured by this tree
19:56 but you can see the swan up there
19:57 getting a good view of that
19:59 lightning rod swan
20:01 looks as if the building has been
20:04 you know a little attachment has built
20:05 and been built in in recent years
20:12 thankfully i can peek in the window and
20:14 get a little view inside there of the
20:16 pews
20:17 and the pulpit
20:26 and if you do show up there's a sign
20:26 here
20:32 that says to enter with reverence
20:32 in continuous worship
20:34 since 1738
20:42 no one
20:42 no one here at the moment however
20:45 sunday service has a recording of this
20:47 is
20:48 earlier in the morning
21:07 made of handmade bricks molded from clay
21:07 sourced nearby
21:09 dedicated in 1770
21:11 fingerprints are still visible on some
21:14 of the bricks
21:17 there's a photo there
21:19 to demonstrate
21:21 that's incredible
21:22 uses a stable and a hospital
21:26 along back in those olden days as far as
21:29 getting over to south carolina across
21:31 the state line
21:32 from here across the river
21:35 is not going to happen now if there was
21:37 a bridge here at one time
21:39 which cannot confirm or deny that
21:42 no longer a bridge here
21:45 and the road just abruptly ends
21:48 you can see the water down there so i'm
21:50 about to backtrack and reroute
21:53 and find a way over into south carolina
21:55 a ways away from this
21:58 from this road
22:00 now turn around
22:12 had to hop on interstate 95. northbound
22:12 for just a bit
22:14 yep had to go northbound just for a tiny
22:16 bit to get into south carolina now
22:18 heading over towards the coast
22:21 of south carolina and once over the line
22:24 like fireworks are a big thing
22:27 this is just over the state line
22:42 through rows of trees
22:42 on either side
22:50 i have arrived in the town of bluffton
22:50 this dodge right here
22:53 and this is the bluffton trading post
22:56 looks like this community has a lot of
22:57 golf carts they use yeah i really like
23:00 scott's market established 1970.
23:04 look at that old signage
23:08 and traffic's starting to get a little
23:09 backed up here at these cross streets
23:12 there's the old town bluffton in right
23:14 over there
23:15 as well a lot of the homes here have
23:18 historical significance the
23:20 gulford house
23:22 1921
23:24 that is dated
23:26 but take a look at this this is a thing
23:28 of beauty right here on the side
23:30 says the rate
23:32 they had sundries cosmetics they sold
23:35 the
23:36 the siltiest seal oh seal test
23:39 not stealthiest i can't i can't speak
23:42 seal test
23:45 ice cream
23:46 exclusively candies and tobaccos
23:50 with this old mural here
23:52 the ice cream cones that looks delicious
23:55 and a sundae
23:56 and this is no longer
23:58 utilizes that it's now
24:01 a construction
24:05 well a construction office uses this
24:08 but the rate
24:10 back in 1948
24:12 it was not meant to rhyme
24:14 but they have the historical
24:15 preservation society
24:18 sign there as well
24:19 yeah this just feels
24:21 like south carolina
24:23 with the trees
24:25 and all that
24:27 and the plantation style homes
24:39 this is so neat this is still here the
24:39 paintings there on the side
25:19 this is the first time i've ever been in
25:19 this area
25:20 this is all new for me being over here
25:22 on the island
25:24 they're using terminology that i use
25:26 sometimes meandering feature is
25:29 circulated water
25:31 here along
25:37 i plan on staying in this area for a
25:39 couple days got some accommodations
25:42 tonight
25:43 and tomorrow night
25:46 at least
25:49 for that long so expect tomorrow's video
25:51 to be
25:52 from this neck of the woods
26:00 spoiler alert
26:00 don't always don't always give away
26:01 where i'm gonna be each day but
26:03 i'm gonna be here tomorrow
26:14 charles
26:14 frasser
26:16 right here
26:22 2010 this was placed here
26:22 made of bronze
26:27 this gentleman is walking with an
26:27 alligator
26:30 look at that
26:32 he's got an umbrella
26:34 i am prone to take an umbrella out from
26:36 time to time man after my own heart he's
26:39 got the hat
26:40 as well
26:42 got the umbrella there i don't know if
26:44 he's shooing away
27:03 are you a local resident
27:03 here on hilton head island gator
27:06 that's a gator not a crocodile pretty
27:08 sure because the nose isn't as pointy
27:10 that's the obvious way you can tell
27:12 you could tell the difference
27:13 crocodiles would have more of a pointy
27:16 snout
27:20 that's going to do it for today
27:23 i am here in hilton head island
27:26 and will be
27:28 for at least a day or two
27:30 that's pretty exciting
27:33 see how the future goes after that
27:36 flip this around do the outro
27:39 as i already hinted
27:41 that is
27:45 not only going to do it for today but
27:45 also a man walking an alligator how
27:47 often does that happen
27:49 an homage
27:50 to a real event i'm guessing
27:52 or someone with a great imagination
27:55 or the famous gator walker of hilton
27:58 head
28:00 i'll see you the next video the vlog
28:03 i'm excited to be here something
28:05 something exciting and new
28:07 i got a song
28:11 i'm a love bow
28:13 i'm not getting on a boat i'm not
28:15 staying on a boat but i'm staying
28:16 somewhere awesome
28:18 you might be able to guess it if not
28:21 i'll cover it tomorrow
28:24 i'll see you then the vlog
28:26 is over
