0:35 distinctly see this building off in the

0:40 distance and down below the sidewalk has

0:45 been repurposed but the cracks on the

0:48 curb they're still in the precise

0:53 locations in fact if you look at this

0:56 screenshot the yellow paint used to

1:01 stretch all the way to this point and

1:03 you can see little remnants there right

1:07 smack dab in the middle of that wall

1:09 they set up a park bench and all the

1:11 narration of the entire film was done

1:14 right there sitting on that bench there

1:17 are a couple of interesting facts

1:19 however about this area for example the

1:22 direction of traffic flows in the

1:24 opposite direction of what we're used to

1:27 in fact the one-way street sign points

1:31 the correct direction this is the angle

1:33 you don't normally say where he was

1:36 staring while he was explaining his

1:37 story watch out for that feather though

1:40 it's coming in is coming in hot there's

1:42 a feather he just landed on his foot

1:46 they have placed this protective

1:47 barricade to keep the chocolate eaters

1:51 out of the garden it helps you adhere to

1:55 your diet it's that's a good thing

2:07 there was a Sinclair gas station this

2:10 was all themed to the era mama Gump

2:14 walked her son across the road past the

2:19 barbershop and he got

2:23 his foot stuck in a great that was

2:27 mounted right here in fact if you look

2:30 closely you can see the holes where the

2:37 prop gate was wedged against the

2:41 concrete you have to look very carefully

2:47 but they're still there

2:49 these gentlemen are sitting in a

2:50 makeshift seating area you can see the

2:52 plank protruding from the wall where the

2:55 barber pole used to be now a bicycle has

2:59 taken both their places she chats ties

3:02 the men who were staring have you ever

3:06 seen a boy with braces on his legs

3:08 before and this one though for the

3:11 television when they saw Elvis

3:12 performing shaking his hips he Wayne and

3:16 Knutson Barda hound dog and the

3:18 reflection in the window displays this

3:22 structure and noticed the awning has

3:26 been removed but the shell still there

3:30 against the wall this was not made for

3:33 children's eyes the gum boarding house

3:36 was down that pathway now blocked by a

3:40 locked gate and this road was covered in

3:44 dirt to appear that it was on the

3:46 outskirts just past the city limit sign

3:49 of green bow on two occasions two

3:52 different forests were waiting for the

3:54 bus it pulled up across that bridge

3:58 there used to be a tree stopped right in

4:01 here but it has been uprooted Forrest

4:05 Gump son and adult Forrest as a child

4:08 just waiting for the bus right there

4:11 this driveway needs no introduction run

4:14 Forrest run

4:16 that's where it happened the bullies

4:18 were chasing him on their bicycles he

4:21 was trotting down this very dirt section

4:24 trying to get away his braces fell off

4:26 and he realized he can run like the wind

4:29 down at the end was where the homestead

4:33 was built but it was destroyed bulldozed

4:37 immediately after filming down this

4:41 opposite road

4:42 there was no gate and I didn't see any

4:46 no trespassing signs so drove up and

4:50 this is where there was a swing where he

4:55 was dangling and his mom was getting

4:57 acquainted with the school principal and

5:00 there used to be a brick wall here as

5:04 well which is no longer there but the

5:09 boarding house right there and the water

5:12 you see in the background was the

5:15 backdrop of their wedding and there is a

5:18 new homestead which has built bent belts

5:22 since those days right there Wow

5:29 incredible

5:30 that worked out surprisingly well I

5:32 didn't think the odds would be in my

5:34 favor getting on that property but that

5:38 was the open gate moving on to the next

5:41 location this old school house is under

5:43 remodel I'm hoping I can get indoors see

5:50 what's inside young forest hanging out

5:53 right there and while his mom talked to

5:57 the principal the office used to be here

6:01 now it's a hallway but you can see the

6:04 base of where the principal's door once

6:08 was and along the right side of this

6:12 wall were some water fountains here it

6:16 is the water found this whitey road

6:19 leads to

6:21 forefront of a recently repurpose and

6:23 widened bridge where as a youth and as

6:26 an adult and he ran along past this

6:31 River and is still used as a fishing

6:35 bridge just like it was in the movie the

6:39 trees on the left and the right as he

6:41 continues to track down this road I've

6:44 also been removed I was just talking to

6:45 some of the locals and they said there

6:47 were some oak trees right here that

6:50 provided shade and some pull offs where

6:52 their vehicles would be out of the Sun

6:56 so the story is true they have removed

6:59 all the trees in this section a fake

7:01 facade of a building from the University

7:03 of Alabama was built here in California

7:06 on this campus and the way I figured it

7:10 out was that structure in the distance

7:16 is the same one seen here over his

7:21 shoulder right there

7:32 movie trickery she dropped her book he

7:32 went over handed it to her and they made

7:37 their way in the fake facade upon closer

7:40 inspection

7:47 one of these little areas could have

7:47 been the spot the brickwork and concrete

7:52 patterns all pretty much match up it was

7:56 a very rainy night when he paid a visit

7:59 to her dormitory and take a look at the

8:02 windows on either side

8:05 they still look the same as does the

8:10 rock work itself matches up perfectly

8:21 the name of the hall has changed they

8:21 placed a sign over the David xmarks sign

8:25 and after five years of playing college

8:29 football can you believe it

8:32 he got himself a college degree right

8:37 there under that arch why he did it

8:40 they've changed the layout of the

8:42 sidewalks and the brickwork along the

8:45 ground but this is where he was

8:48 approached to join the military at the

8:51 corner piece of this building standing

8:53 with his mom she was so proud he

8:57 graduated they have expanded this bridge

9:00 considerably from a teeny tiny to layman

9:03 to an expansive now four-lane this is

9:09 where he told Ginny he was going off to

9:11 Vietnam

9:12 and the seafood place you see in the

9:14 distance that was the club she worked

9:16 out and they still call it loves even

9:19 though the business model slightly

9:21 different a total stranger pulled over

9:23 to give her a ride in this day and age I

9:26 wonder if I wonder if someone will give

9:29 me a ride fails I'm standing in the

9:33 former driveway of the historic

9:34 Ambassador Hotel seen off in the

9:37 distance look at this massive pylon in

9:41 fact that's all that remains of the

9:45 structure it's been torn down for years

9:49 just over this wall you can get a

9:52 glimpse

9:54 of the empty field where once stood a

9:57 couple of moments happened inside its

9:59 doors she's playing guitar sitting on a

10:02 chair up on stage as well as doing some

10:05 illegal narcotics at a table full on

10:08 party mode but what I find interesting

10:10 are the tie-ins that relate to this

10:13 place Robert Kennedy was assassinated

10:15 here mentioned in the film and some of

10:20 the very first Academy Awards

10:21 celebrations right over there Forrest

10:24 Gump knows a thing or two about winning

10:27 some Oscars the cast and crew did not go

10:31 to Vietnam

10:33 they were roaming around this area there

10:38 is a lagoon sequence where Bubba dies

10:41 and I can't get to it it's blocked off

10:45 they are doing construction in fact you

10:48 see the lights back there that is a

10:50 security guard who has told me you

10:53 cannot get down to where I'm trying to

10:56 get

10:58 but this is the area that stood in for

11:15 the hospital scenes were in fact nots

11:15 located in a hospital at all but here at

11:18 the Ebell theatre not located in the big

11:23 auditorium but tucked away above the

11:25 courtyard on the second floor the window

11:29 is located towards the top of the roof

11:31 that stretch all the way across that's

11:34 where his bed would have been located

11:37 right about there this guy has done and

11:44 seen a lot of things over the course of

11:48 his existence one of them being one of

11:51 the few people that was able to hear the

11:55 famous speech about the war that was

11:57 given down there because the rest of the

11:59 crowd they couldn't hear it someone

12:02 unplugged the speakers he ended up in a

12:05 single-file line

12:06 unknowingly corralled with everyone else

12:09 making their way to the stage but not

12:12 before taking a photo from this angle

12:16 wandering down this wall that's a photo

12:20 opportunity right there

12:28 nailed it a platform was constructed

12:28 just about where the stairs begin

12:31 microphone placed right there he was

12:36 very confused by the guy who kept

12:38 repeating the F word he'd like to use

12:41 that effort ask this and ask that it

12:44 wasn't used to that kind of language and

12:46 while he spoke those relatively unheard

12:49 words there was a large congregation of

12:53 people lining all the sides of the

12:57 reflecting pool and while it is assumed

12:59 that thousands upon thousands of people

13:01 showed up in reality at the bottom of

13:05 these stairs just enough extras to fill

13:09 the front section we're needed this is

13:13 the beginning timeframe of

13:14 computer-generated images and they just

13:17 duplicated them all around the water

13:20 movie magic and as luck would have it

13:23 the love of his life just so happened to

13:26 be here he darted down the stairwell and

13:29 she jumped into the water right over

13:33 there hanging out in this general

13:35 vicinity when suddenly hey I know that

13:39 guy and upon impulse

13:43 stuck her feet in here and it's much

13:45 shallower than I thought

13:48 look at this it's only up to it's only

13:52 up to there but it came up to her knees

13:57 they must have filled this thing up a

13:59 lot a lot higher you know that or she's

14:05 not very tall while on their walk they

14:09 made their way down Pennsylvania Avenue

14:11 in front of the White House there was a

14:15 candlelight procession making its way in

14:18 front of the building and they were here

14:21 in the foreground he sure was happy to

14:23 spend time with her here in his nation's

14:26 capital

14:28 all in all he became very familiar with

14:30 that place he was invited a multitude of

14:33 times based on his accomplishments one

14:35 time he drank himself about 15 dr.

14:38 peppers he had to pee and on another

14:42 occasion Nixon invited him to stay at a

14:44 new fancy hotel it's very modern also

14:49 known as the water gates and the way

14:53 they film that particular scene is they

14:55 used the room right here Tom Hanks

15:01 looked out and he saw all the

15:04 flashlights right above that ledge there

15:08 were some offices they called the

15:11 maintenance man so there must be a fuse

15:13 out he was having trouble sleeping

15:16 the next day Nixon resigned the logo has

15:21 changed a little bit over the years but

15:22 the name remains the same from up on the

15:26 roof you can get about the best angle of

15:30 where the offices were the men were

15:33 right down in there

15:36 with their lights of blazing the actual

15:38 scandal room was room 214 at the time

15:40 they did not film or film that

15:44 particular room which has now been

15:46 converted to room number 205 new

15:48 management has changed it at the inside

15:50 of the room the Nixon room is adorned

15:53 with paraphernalia and furniture from

15:56 the era as nightfall set in a stroll was

16:44 when he's yelling at her boyfriend she

16:49 departs

16:51 she takes her hand and flashes the peace

16:55 sign in the back when de

17:02 saying goodbye once again Rosemary's

17:02 Baby was on the marquee at the historic

17:06 Chinese Theatre and the boulevard has

17:09 seen some changes over the years right

17:13 here next to Jean Harlow star Ginny and

17:18 her friends were sitting there busking

17:19 singing some songs

17:26 it's a little different but the star and

17:26 the sidewalk

17:34 still a sign welcome to New York City

17:34 well not really but with the appropriate

17:38 amount of fake snow and signage anyone

17:41 could be fooled up on this awning was a

17:46 liquor store sign and to the left of it

17:49 was a strip club down at the end of the

17:53 road was a huge coca-cola mural the art

17:59 of Illusion

18:00 they crossed the road full of taxicabs

18:02 Lieutenant Dan almost got hit by a

18:04 vehicle and shouted out hey I'm walking

18:09 here I'm walking here right right there

18:13 and in the same area was the exit to the

18:15 television show he used to be a door

18:18 right there against the wall and a ramp

18:22 that made its way towards where I'm

18:26 standing you see the coal sign the neon

18:29 still exists even though the door has

18:33 been removed and the ramp is no more

18:37 Lieutenant Dan careened into that wall

18:42 quite the illusion looks very cold

18:46 blustery

18:49 as they were perched in that exact spot

18:53 the interiors of this spot were also

18:56 used the celebration of New Year's Eve

19:01 took place inside those doors

19:29 this majestic tree sits in the yard of

19:29 Bubba's mom's homestead now the camera

19:33 angle was more towards the water facing

19:37 this direction but there is a fence here

19:40 private property located in that

19:45 direction was where Bubba was laid to

19:49 rest pay close attention to the tree

19:52 located smack dab in the center between

19:58 the others it kind of twists its way up

20:01 to the sky it's so distinct in fact that

20:07 you can coordinate where the headstone

20:09 was just to the right of it of his best

20:13 good friend from another angle zooming

20:15 in with the lens standing under that

20:21 very branch right there

20:25 on a sidenote look at the boat behind

20:28 his head in the yard sits this sea

20:35 vessel is that the boat it's at the prop

20:39 boat still in front of Bubba's mom's

20:45 house could be after this ground is not

20:52 very stable after he paid his respects

20:55 he went to keep a promise and the dock

20:59 has been destroyed by past storms but

21:03 that's where he wandered down and

21:04 purchased himself a shrimp boat even the

21:07 electrical pole and the meter box right

21:13 there holy cow that is pretty neat

21:30 it really do have to be on a mission to

21:30 find out one from this elevated angle is

21:33 the best view of where he was reunited

21:36 with Lieutenant Dan

21:38 check out the grassy area and behind it

21:41 is a dock now in front of it is a boat

21:46 right there in the center of the screen

21:47 just about there was the free floating

21:52 platform that they created that his boat

21:55 came in from the right of the screen and

21:57 smashed it to oblivion that's my boat

22:02 for some reason that graffiti wants me

22:06 to jump just to ruin the movie magic for

22:09 a minute spoiler alert when the boat

22:12 when he jumps out of the boat the boat

22:14 is heading this way

22:16 unmanned it's somehow does a circle goes

22:21 around while he's talking to Lieutenant

22:25 Dan and smashes into the dock how is

22:29 that even possible

22:35 if you're gonna pray for shrimp you've

22:35 come to the right place

22:36 Lieutenant Dan doesn't pray though he

22:38 just he just sits on the back and and

22:41 drinks the doors locked but if we peek

22:47 through the window you can see the two

22:52 windows and the podium in the middle

22:55 that's where he was singing in the choir

22:57 the woodwork piece he's standing in

22:59 front of at first I thought they removed

23:01 it but upon closer inspection it's still

23:05 in there they've just added a little top

23:08 part a little revamping but that's the

23:11 same piece by standing on this wooden

23:13 staircase you get a peek through the

23:16 back window sill where Dan was sitting

23:20 between the window and the door not

23:21 joining in the singing festivities the

23:23 front door swings inward leaving it

23:25 sitting just about there which leads me

23:28 to believe this is the same one notice

23:32 the knob the recently over painted lock

23:35 box to the left and the smaller lock

23:38 at the top push that door in and we have

23:42 recreated movie magic it's fictional

23:46 name was the 4-square Baptist Church and

23:48 that cross on the steeple that was just

23:51 a prop

23:51 as was the wooden sign they built right

23:55 here and after he made a lot of money he

23:59 donated a lot of fundage back to this

24:02 very facility

24:03 he also unselfishly gave more money to

24:07 this place which bared the name after

24:11 him Gump Medical Center

24:16 I was just noticing the brick sign

24:20 tucked away next to this tree used to

24:23 reside over to the left just a little

24:26 bit they have shifted it lettering as

24:28 the same coloration and font spells out

24:32 different words but they most likely

24:35 have those original letters inside a

24:38 storage room in there the welcome sign

24:40 right here off the road the magnolia

24:44 States and he just kept runnin and

24:47 runnin and runnin and runnin with no

24:50 agenda behind it he just kept on going

24:54 for no particular reason

24:56 he ran clear to the ocean coast to

25:01 shining coast along the wooden pier

25:04 passing that light next to this railing

25:08 with the beautiful mountains in the

25:11 background he stopped right here now

25:15 they did move that seat

25:17 to the other side but he looked over the

25:22 ocean and thought you know what I'm

25:24 gonna turn around and go the other way

25:28 he'd only just begun traffic has stopped

25:32 this barricade there is a boat

25:37 approaching and the bridge is spinning

25:41 around in a circular fashion I've never

25:43 seen that before it is a very busy

25:45 thoroughfare

25:48 as he approached the camera the news

25:51 crews that interviewers were wondering

25:53 why the heck is he running are you doing

25:55 it for animals are you doing it for

25:57 women's rights I just felt like running

26:01 he wasn't running alone for very long

26:03 however this guy charged up saying I'll

26:06 follow you anywhere check out the school

26:08 zone sign in the tree to the right of

26:10 the beard and the pole that still exists

26:13 the road you see in the background

26:16 that's new this is a difficult spot to

26:19 find fun fact

26:23 that's a relic right there there's no

26:26 parking sign a piece of film history the

26:31 terrain has changed quite a bit since

26:33 then in fact this was the original

26:35 thoroughfare and the homes across the

26:37 road have been bulldozed but pay close

26:40 attention to the end of that shot you

26:42 will notice this drainage grate and a

26:45 little bench that's at there and a bus

26:48 stop the concrete still exists I always

26:54 found it interesting he never asked for

26:55 company he never specifically said hey

26:59 follow me everyone just did they just

27:02 they just tagged along whether he liked

27:05 it or not if you're in the bumper

27:07 sticker business next to this mission

27:09 ice cream mural it's a pretty good track

27:12 record for success in fact as everyone

27:17 is making their way down that direction

27:20 you could see that mural off to the left

27:24 hand side the pile of dung would have

27:26 been right here next to that grate and

27:30 these pillars just be careful you gotta

27:34 you don't want that stuff on your shoe

27:36 it never it never comes off your shoe it

27:38 takes it takes a it takes a lot of work

27:41 to get that that stuff off the bottom of

27:43 your feet the guy stood in the middle of

27:44 the road and bewilderment of the idea

27:46 that was just presented to him he went

27:49 with it though and ended up making a lot

27:52 of money look over to the left this

27:55 little window leading down to a basement

27:58 it's still there

28:02 it happens sometimes just about where

28:08 these desert weeds are was a puddle it

28:12 splashed up on his face luckily there

28:17 was a gentleman with a yellow t-shirt

28:19 handed it to him and he wiped the mud

28:22 off they have placed this concrete

28:26 barricade where the jogging took place

28:29 but the twin arrows there on the left

28:34 are still stuck in the ground

28:38 this trading post has seen better days

28:41 it's now completely abandoned here's a

28:45 better look at the arrows themselves

28:48 made out of wood standing the test of

28:54 times behind you this place certainly

29:07 has the actress that played Jenny in the

29:10 film her name was Robin Wright's and

29:13 this square bears her last name and

29:18 coincidentally wright's no pun intended

29:22 over there was the restaurant she worked

29:25 out and they have even adorned the front

29:27 window with some of the famous sayings

29:30 and a photograph of the shot you can use

29:34 the fire hydrant and the window sill to

29:38 tell where she was serving the dinner

29:41 right here on this table

29:43 tucked away in this little corner is

29:46 where the TV was perched watching the

29:49 news and the murals on the wall still

29:53 exist she was standing over here

29:56 meandered her way towards the table if

30:03 you look at the left of the screen

30:04 you'll see a fountain and a swing set

30:07 where Haley Joel Osment was playing the

30:11 playground has been removed but the tree

30:14 line still matches up as well as the

30:17 brick building off in the distance it

30:20 was in front of the backdrop of that

30:22 pump house and this walkway there right

30:25 over there

30:26 she informed him as she was sick and

30:29 agreed to marry him right

30:33 there

31:00 these look like comfortable shoes but to

31:00 be honest they're just a little bit too

31:02 tight for me so I'll just go with what

31:05 I'm already wearing seeing these bags

35:38 middle of nowhere and now I know
