day three begins of my journey cross
0:03
country through the nooks and crannies
0:05
the small towns and the backroads of the
0:08
US about to set foot into Mississippi by
0:15
looking at this road atlas give you a
0:17
general overview making my entry over
0:20
here to the right coming out of the east
0:22
and just gonna stay in the southern
0:26
bottom areas this might make awake my
0:29
way across I can't talk and with the
0:32
morning brings the Sun very nice welcome
0:43
everyone Adam is the woo here this Trek
0:46
and journey so far has been a heck of a
0:50
breath of fresh air and will continue to
0:53
be so no theme parks no major
0:55
attractions just good old Americana
0:59
inviting you to join me shall you this
1:05
Chamber of Commerce is an old service
1:09
station established in 1923 I know that
1:15
fact because it's inscribed there in
1:17
brick on the ground best I can tell the
1:22
facades been removed
1:25
but this amazing signage still exists
1:28
for the coffee pot in lucid ale
1:50
Bailey's scratching post here off the
1:50
sidewalk starts from the concrete upward
1:54
and there's these little grooves can
1:58
lean and lean against scratch your back
2:04
if you so she is very scenic
3:39
just on the outskirts of Wiggins as this
3:39
rest facility named after one of its
3:43
favorite sons little security stay him
3:48
there J Hana Dizzy Dean the baseball
3:53
legend lived in bond a small community
3:55
five miles north of here governor
3:59
William Waller once said that dizzy
4:02
started the nation's awareness of the
4:04
good side of Mississippi stepped inside
4:07
now where it is very very quiet this
4:10
bench has been placed here in his honor
4:14
as well as these tiles on the side of
4:17
the wall
4:24
hello
4:24
hi
4:36
New Hope Road I'm gonna say there are
4:36
probably times during the rainy season
4:38
that this gets flooded over let's see
4:43
the swamp here on the left and even more
4:47
swamp here on the right right up to the
4:52
edge of the street even telephone pole
4:57
has been submerged any creatures looming
5:02
down in there and if there are why did
5:06
they cross the road very short jaunt the
5:13
answer most likely is to get to the
5:15
other side because there's other
5:26
inhabitable areas for them over here not
5:26
much of a distance a few feet
5:38
I don't know about you but I really want
5:38
to see a cow also crossing the road it
5:45
might happen based on this information
6:01
decided not to wander huh
6:01
better to chill by the lakeside makes
6:04
more sense safer too than hell the
6:08
street that's a lot of dunk folks are so
6:19
friendly around these parts it's a
6:22
couple of farmers down here in their
6:25
vehicles waving to passer buyers it's a
6:31
rather impressive beard you got there
6:33
sir hospitality from every direction
6:42
he's waving out his window and his wife
6:45
out the other side it's good to see you
6:47
ma'am there's a bullet hole in your the
6:51
back window however not too many leaves
6:54
on these trees
7:11
back servile it's kind of tough to make
7:11
out the wording there in the brick I'm a
7:14
near the roofline of this facade below
7:17
it however below the water tower that is
7:19
a couple little buildings here this one
7:24
can't tell if there was a mural on the
7:26
side or if it's just the old paint
7:28
fading through that door has certainly
7:31
seen better days oh yeah still has the
7:43
seats top part of the oven
7:48
look at that barrel the Pepsi challenge
7:52
that's a throwback I'm diggin the aqua
7:56
style blue coloration hue intent here
7:59
the side of these cinder blocks that
8:02
created this thing
8:20
traffic's pretty light
8:20
a section of the road is closed with the
8:28
big metal barricade
8:31
for vehicles so they can't cross it's a
8:35
little bit of a hike up here you can see
8:36
the pine needles of seeped into the main
8:40
part of the street over the years oh wow
8:55
few other people up here on this ledge
8:55
was not expecting this cavernous whoa
9:10
there's even people way down there
9:10
they've hiked down to the bottom oh my
9:13
gosh I don't want to get too close to
9:17
its no railing absolutely incredible
9:22
very windy
9:30
that is some view
9:40
there's the former road no wonder it's
9:40
blocked off to cars and trucks and
9:44
motorcycles your vehicle would take
9:47
quite the tumble off that side even
9:53
walking don't want to get still don't
9:56
want to get too close
10:13
not safe chunks of it right there on the
10:13
on the side of the incline that right
10:17
here that's pieces of the road nature is
10:22
a powerful thing
10:34
I just took a bite right out of the
10:34
earth
11:11
family over there in the woods taking
11:11
photos and selfies I'm enamoured by this
11:14
root system of the tree that's just
11:16
dangling fascinating stuff certainly one
11:28
way to reroute a thoroughfare some
11:31
repairs can be fixed and adjusted near a
11:34
bridge or to some technical skills could
11:40
make this drivable again but that that's
11:43
a whole other ballgame definitely I have
11:51
chosen a very windy path at the moment
11:57
lots of turns
12:00
and haven't passed anyone for five or
12:03
ten minutes no one's come the other
12:06
direction
12:08
I'm alone with my thoughts
12:36
stop to get a cup of coffee temporarily
12:36
out of lids at Cracker Barrel not the
12:48
establishment I thought it was kind of
12:49
he established 1914 the community of
12:55
booed this corner lot pretty unique
13:02
looking it was likely a store something
13:07
similar at one point
13:21
not too much happening in the downtown
13:21
section
13:36
some train cars run adjacent to those
13:36
tracks next to at the very end is the
13:40
old station and then just a couple miles
13:43
away is Roxy very easy to miss but
13:50
thankfully I didn't this is a hidden gem
14:02
the corner of West Boulevard and 3rd
14:02
Street is like a page out of small-town
14:05
history
14:21
aah hammock grocery and market coke
14:21
classic goodness available in bottles
14:31
the vintage signage could have been a
14:31
pizza place
14:31
it looked faintly on the window there is
14:34
a painting of won some pepperoni and
14:37
cheese and whatnot glass has been
14:43
shattered that circular metal emblem is
14:50
promoting the king size soda pop bottle
14:54
this is more or less a textbook location
14:57
for this video series I love it so much
15:02
this is exactly the type of stuff I'm
15:06
looking for a fitting into this episode
15:12
while I stand here at the mighty
15:15
Mississippi River another state has been
15:18
accomplished and tomorrow
15:23
is a new day as for now however the Sun
15:28
is soon to be setting I will be crossing
15:33
that bridge bright and early the next
15:36
