Transcript
0:02
today's adventure begins here on Market
0:02
Street and Celebration Florida as a
0:04
recording of this it is Monday May the
0:07
1st
0:08
someone just honked 2 000.
0:11
23 I am heading here from here
0:15
someone's still Hawking taking a very
0:17
short commute and I will be going over
0:19
to Disney's Hollywood Studios but today
0:22
I am going to refer to it as the
0:25
original Disney MGM Studios it is
0:27
celebrating it's 34th
0:31
year of existence
0:34
where the heck
0:36
has the time gone welcome everyone Adam
0:39
the woo here wearing an appropriate
0:42
t-shirt the same shirt in fact that I
0:45
wore four years ago on May 1st
0:50
2019 which seems like almost yesterday
0:53
was the 30th Anniversary they did a
0:56
parade it was a little anti-climactic
0:58
the celebration and today is not going
1:00
to be any better I assure you they
1:02
probably will have no Anniversary
1:03
merchandise they don't usually don't
1:05
celebrate a 30 34th anniversary and
1:08
we'll get a coffee but for now I'm just
1:09
drinking Mountain Water I'm inviting you
1:11
to join me and I'll look back a
1:14
perspective
1:15
some of my thoughts of my memories some
1:17
things that I enjoy about what was at
1:21
one time my all-time favorite theme park
1:24
love Disneyland love Magic Kingdom but
1:27
there was a time in the early 90s when
1:30
Disney's MGM Studios was my all-time
1:33
favorite theme park in existence
1:36
it's changed a lot since then join me
1:38
shall we current time 5 15 No 5 30.
1:44
32
1:59
and because it's after 2 P.M
1:59
Hollywood Studios does not need any
2:01
reservation system for annual pass
2:03
holders after two
2:04
none of the parks do anymore after 2 p.m
2:07
except Magic Kingdom on the weekends
2:08
Saturday and Sunday Magic Kingdom but
2:10
every other Park after two
2:12
No Reservations needed
2:16
I love that it is amazing how incredibly
2:19
windy
2:21
it is out here also no trams are back
2:30
my family moved here in 1991
2:30
around that time the park was two years
2:32
old I was not here on opening day I
2:34
wasn't even here in the first couple of
2:35
years but in 91
2:38
let's say I would have been born in 74
2:40
so I'd have been 17 and I was at a
2:42
pivotal pivotal point in my late teens
2:46
early you know young adult life
2:50
where I was fascinated with movies TV
2:52
shows movie production
2:55
things like that and I had no idea how
2:58
any of that
2:59
really worked I had never been to La
3:02
I've never been to Hollywood I had not
3:04
done the Hollywood Universal Studios
3:07
Hollywood Backlot had been a Warner
3:08
Brothers I had never stood at a place
3:12
and seen with my own eyes other than a
3:15
TV special how movie production was made
3:18
fake facades buildings of not having
3:21
interior they used just for looks all
3:24
that seems very you know common
3:26
knowledge now but back then to me it
3:30
wasn't
3:31
and when I came here I was just my mind
3:34
was I was just blown away by all of that
3:37
and I really soaked it in and I embraced
3:40
this place so much and I said this in
3:43
the past
3:44
streets of America which later became
3:46
well actually originally was called New
3:48
York Ave then it became streets of
3:49
America where they had the San Francisco
3:51
area that was kind of my Main Street USA
3:54
I love Main Street USA Disneyland and
3:57
Magic Kingdom but for me I just loved
3:59
being back there and when they got rid
4:01
of that first and then they got really
4:03
Great Movie Ride I've been trying to
4:06
hold on to the old MGM days but it's
4:09
long gone and I do love Hollywood
4:10
Studios love Galaxy's Edge about you
4:13
east of Star Wars land and poor Story
4:16
Land all the new stuff I even like the
4:19
Mickey and Minnie attraction because now
4:20
we can go back in the Chinese Theater
4:23
once again but what's the Great Movie
4:25
Ride streets of America was a race from
4:27
existence Tram Tour was kind of the
4:29
first big thing to go all that stuff now
4:31
that it's gone it's a different place
4:33
stepping into Starbucks now but it's
4:35
interesting because over here this does
4:37
not dump out onto Sunset also Sunset did
4:40
not come about until a little bit later
4:41
but I have not I've never been in here
4:43
where this one particular side is not
4:47
open at the trolley car Cafe just this
4:50
one side I'm gonna get myself a coffee
4:51
all right achieve I now have my coffee I
4:55
have seen a lot of changes through this
4:56
park over the years I kind of wish they
4:58
would bring back the citizens of
4:59
Hollywood these about here with her
5:02
street performers so this is the
5:03
Hollywoods have not been out in a heck
5:05
of a long time also you'll notice that I
5:07
showed the Eisner quote from 1989 that
5:11
is over there and that's one of the few
5:12
things that still says Eisner and MGM
5:14
Studios left in the park fun fact this
5:16
is actually a really large ear of a
5:18
Hidden Mickey that isn't even promoted
5:20
anymore big hit Mickey here and the top
5:22
of the Brown Derby made up the other
5:24
deer ground Derby is right over there so
5:26
this was one ear and the other ear was
5:28
over the Brown Derby real quick like I'm
5:29
going to walk over in the Backlot
5:30
Express Restaurant a warehouse of good
5:32
eating this is one of the original
5:34
opening day I won't say attraction but
5:37
it's opening day restaurants same name
5:38
same theming and everything a lot of the
5:40
theming has been removed including a lot
5:42
of the old Roger Rabbit stuff like uh
5:44
judge Judge Doom's uh vehicle was right
5:46
here attached to this there still is
5:48
some stuff in here but they have really
5:50
cleaned out this area when I think of
5:53
old school MGM I think of this place
5:56
always Roger Rabbit The Rocketeer and
5:59
Dick Tracy were definitely very
6:00
prominent in this park when it first
6:02
opened as well as a lot of other
6:04
promotional stuff look at all these
6:05
different items that are still up here
6:07
Twilight Zone CBS entertainment big
6:09
business Ghostbusters beaches big top
6:11
peewee of course think of beaches think
6:13
of Bette Midler and she did the she did
6:15
something back on the streets of America
6:17
it was called the lottery if she even
6:18
filmed back there and there's even very
6:20
interesting Backlot photos from other
6:22
different places this almost looks like
6:24
Court of miracles in Universal Hollywood
6:25
I don't think it is but it kind of has
6:27
that Vibe as well and you can see some
6:29
of the like set dressing in here so they
6:31
use other different Studios to kind of
6:33
help show what a Backlot would look like
6:37
this almost looks like Universal or
6:39
maybe possibly Warner or Paramount I
6:41
can't really tell exactly wherever that
6:43
is looks probably a little bit different
6:45
today by today's standards current day
6:48
than it was them you can definitely tell
6:50
that's a set there oh wow take a look at
6:52
this this right here so I'm looking at
6:53
this being I lived in La for a while I
6:55
was in LA and then in Anaheim in Orange
6:56
County this almost looks like one of the
6:59
bridges that goes over the LA River this
7:01
Boat Boat here called the Nancy
7:03
something this almost could have been
7:05
the Rob Dyrdek Fantasy Factory later on
7:08
in life but this looks like La it could
7:10
be way off with that but yeah they just
7:13
kind of put all these very interesting
7:14
things you can see this hasn't been
7:16
painted yet it's supposed to look like
7:17
it's a matte painting in progress they
7:20
were very very very Studio Centric with
7:24
the Park first open something that even
7:25
though it's called Hollywood Studios has
7:28
really kind of been lost
7:30
over the years look at that Walt Disney
7:32
now filming country star man really good
7:35
John Carpenter movie which I really like
7:38
that film there's some very interesting
7:40
Pollyanna the days are gone Capone crazy
7:43
like a fox this is all just in here and
7:46
I'm just like amazed how they have not
7:48
removed look at the dead men don't wear
7:50
plaid I think that was a Steve Martin
7:52
movie totally unrelated to to Disney is
7:55
a bust of the king of rock and roll
7:57
Elvis Presley now when I go through here
7:59
Star Tours did not open on opening day
8:02
it opened a year or two I think it was
8:04
like two years after and with a lot of
8:06
things I know and love and cover on a
8:08
regular basis I have seen this dwindle
8:10
down to almost nothing of what was
8:13
originally once in here a lot of these
8:15
props kind of dangling from the roof and
8:17
one day I'm just gonna wake up and come
8:19
down here and this whole area is going
8:20
to be re-themed and not even exist
8:24
anymore I mean where else can you see a
8:25
Time clock that isn't even active it's
8:28
just for theming and how to lift correct
8:30
and this little stanchion was not really
8:32
a stanchion and this gate right here
8:35
remember I was saying about Roger Rabbit
8:37
and Dick Tracy and The Rocketeer there
8:40
was some serious Roger Rabbit stuff in
8:43
this particular building and I pointed
8:44
this out before but as with a lot of
8:47
stuff I'm going to reiterate and show it
8:49
again Roger Rabbit was filmed in L.A
8:52
parts of us when I was overseas this one
8:54
was in L.A Benny the Cab used to be
8:56
right here and there's some more La
8:58
stuff remember I talked about the LA
9:01
River we'll take a look at this here is
9:04
a photo of the LA River there's Bob
9:06
Hoskins on the on the vehicle that
9:09
played Benny and here is a weather-worn
9:12
faded and almost mutating I don't even
9:15
know what kind of science experiment is
9:17
growing on this Bob Hoskins there passed
9:19
away and also the tunnel which led to
9:22
Toontown is right there which is in
9:24
Griffith Park if you ever get doing the
9:25
Back to the Future filming locations
9:27
part two when Biff's trying to get the
9:29
almanac Doc Brown is up here drops down
9:32
the the streamers down Michael J fox
9:35
pulls that's the same Tunnel right there
9:37
and in the past I've kind of been
9:39
confusing with my explanation about this
9:41
pole here which is where Jessica they
9:44
slightly the car then he slams into
9:46
there Jessica goes flying you know
9:48
everyone back in the day would like
9:50
slow-mo it and pause it to try to see
9:52
you know certain things on a cartoon of
9:54
Jessica which is you know kind of an
9:55
interesting time frame before before
9:57
DVDs and all that but that's also the
10:00
same poll that the manure truck was
10:03
parked in front of in Back to the Future
10:05
too I have said in the past that this
10:07
car hit the thing but really he hit the
10:09
manure truck so sometimes not the best
10:11
at explaining so I wanted to kind of
10:13
clarify that but there's a there's
10:16
Hoskins right up there and this is wild
10:18
too I never noticed this these are some
10:20
artistic renderings of the Indiana Jones
10:22
stunt spectacular right here that's
10:25
where the truck goes along the side of
10:26
the wall and you can almost even see the
10:29
little like beam that holds the truck
10:33
into the wall a little behind the scenes
10:35
and here is an artistic rendering of the
10:37
entire show itself
10:39
which that is very interesting I've
10:41
never seen that before over here this is
10:44
all labeled under stunts and over time I
10:47
have seen so much of this Stripped Away
10:49
and removed like even the kind of a
10:51
section in front of me look at all these
10:52
they're kind of already all kind of
10:54
falling down right here there's like a
10:56
stunt there of a broken window but they
10:58
used to be all along the cork board and
10:59
now a lot of them have fallen one of the
11:01
really good like Archives of Hollywood
11:03
history is kind of over in here this
11:05
almost looks like probably either no
11:07
maybe not Venice but like Malibu Creek
11:10
State Park I'm not sure what that is but
11:12
look Dukes of Hazard which was filmed at
11:14
Warner and then some of the ranches up
11:15
by Six Flags out in the valley you know
11:18
past the valley and all that here's
11:20
Commando over here this is the same Mall
11:23
here from commando but also from Fast
11:26
Times at Ridgemont High you know it's
11:28
just I kind of I was always fascinated
11:31
by all this there's some some little
11:33
eight by tens from earthquake Kung Fu
11:37
over there return to the Jedi yeah
11:40
there's just a treasure Trove of stuff
11:42
in here that one day yeah we're just
11:45
gonna we're just gonna walk in here one
11:46
day and all this stuff is going to be in
11:48
a dumpster somewhere so yeah you know
11:51
I've stated this yesterday when I was
11:52
showing some stuff on why I over cover
11:54
things sometimes that are that mean a
11:57
lot to me well MGM Studios means a lot
12:00
to me and I'm really
12:01
yeah I really I'm kind of sad to see a
12:04
lot of stuff slipping away I mean this
12:06
stuff might be here in 20 years but
12:08
highly doubtful look at this guy making
12:09
doing a really good stunt on a bike what
12:11
if you've ever taken that down your
12:12
sweet slides they have not removed the
12:14
Kawasaki motorcycle from in here as well
12:17
though that's still here I stepped over
12:19
into this Courtyard gonna take a little
12:20
seat down here and show something that I
12:22
got back in
12:24
2019 a very kind gentleman gave me this
12:27
on what is now Grand Ave former streets
12:30
of America I don't want to rip it but
12:32
this was from the cast member preview
12:34
day which is pretty much how it was on
12:36
opening day as far as how the park
12:38
looked like and you know the shirt I'm
12:41
wearing the Disney MGM Studios has that
12:42
logo on it as as well of course they're
12:44
no longer affiliated with metro gold and
12:47
mayor so it doesn't make any sense to
12:49
call it that anymore but you know I've
12:50
seen the shirts and I kind of partake of
12:52
the the phrase of you know I still call
12:54
it MGM because I don't but so take a
12:57
look at this so this is that Hidden
12:58
Mickey I was referring to basically
13:00
where Mickey's mouth is
13:02
is where the Chinese Theater is which
13:04
was Great Movie Ride at the time and
13:06
over here Echo Lake which I showed that
13:08
is where Mickey's ear is and the top of
13:11
the House Hollywood Brown Derby is where
13:13
the other one is and then as the
13:15
different eye so this is basically what
13:18
was open on opening day so take a look
13:19
over here Star Tours did not open until
13:21
January 1990 Backlot Express I was just
13:25
at and Indiana Jones had not even opened
13:27
yet it was just called The Epic Theater
13:29
and to be honest with you I don't even
13:31
remember what was inside there before
13:33
Indiana Jones Indiana Jones came up a
13:35
year or two later a lot of people
13:37
assumed that Star Tours opened an
13:39
opening at the at the opening on May 1st
13:42
of 89 but it was six months later I
13:44
thought it was a year later but now that
13:46
I'm looking at it was six months later
13:48
so this is kind of what you know kind of
13:50
kind of how it was where I'm sitting
13:52
right now at this particular moment is
13:54
back over and see if I can find where
13:57
I'm at soundstage one-of-a-kind
13:58
Hospitality I am uh over here so you
14:01
would go over here past a Sound Stage
14:03
restaurant Hollywood Brown Derby and I
14:06
am next to the animation building which
14:08
behind the animation building was the
14:10
backstage tour shuttle boarding which is
14:11
now launched by this is all launch bay
14:13
right here home of Spore and Ryan's
14:15
favorite the splash Walt Disney theater
14:18
is where little mermaid is right now but
14:21
has been closed for a heck of a long
14:23
time things have definitely changed I
14:27
mean I'm gonna actually pull up the
14:29
Google satellite now and see if you can
14:31
still kind of make out the Hidden Mickey
14:32
but look at that there is a Hidden
14:34
Mickey and it's still there except it's
14:35
just they don't they never embrace it
14:37
anymore frame of reference there's the
14:39
parking lot that's where you walk in
14:41
where the tram should go in you go
14:43
through the checkpoint there you go
14:44
through the main area you walk down
14:46
Hollywood Boulevard which is right there
14:48
you can Branch off over to Hollywood
14:50
Tower Fantasmic which is up in there or
14:53
you can go straight down the barrel of
14:58
Mickey's Noggin
15:00
so look it is still there so the next
15:03
time you're in front of the Chinese
15:05
Theater realize that you're in Mickey's
15:08
mouth I am sitting on the far like
15:10
basically
15:12
I would be so look where look where Echo
15:14
Lake is and then look where Brown Derby
15:16
is over here even though they've kind of
15:17
repurposed it doesn't look as much like
15:19
an ear since it did in the early 90s and
15:22
you know 1989 and early 90s but
15:25
basically I would that blue was me
15:27
sitting right here I'm like an earring
15:29
on Mickey's ear okay back now to the
15:31
opening day map I'm going to kind of
15:33
start off and show what stuff looks like
15:35
on the map versus what it looks like now
15:36
so the animation building
15:38
which you do the tour and all that in
15:41
now is LaunchPad
15:43
you know it looks uh it looks kind of
15:45
the same I'm kind of wondering this
15:46
whole Courtyard they probably at some
15:47
point gonna do something completely
15:49
different with this whole Courtyard I
15:50
feel like this all is going to be
15:52
bulldozed at some point and they're
15:53
going to make this another land or
15:55
something and it's just rumors and
15:56
speculations but they're just not doing
15:58
anything with this whole area back over
16:01
in here and then there's the original
16:03
Archway which is right here so the
16:05
original Archway which is on the other
16:07
side of where Mickey's earlobe would
16:09
have been next to Hollywood Brown Derby
16:11
which is where you could see that you
16:13
know the arch is still there but there
16:15
was like within the first couple years
16:16
they did a lot of promo shops even some
16:18
of the guide Maps had a cast of
16:20
characters in front of this particular
16:22
Archway before the name change and
16:25
everything and then of course the
16:27
Chinese Theater which is shown here let
16:29
me kind of spin it this way so the
16:31
Chinese Theater has gone through a
16:32
couple different inclementations or a
16:34
couple different versions with the Great
16:36
Movie Ride which is a tragedy that that
16:38
has been completely removed Mickey
16:39
Minnie is fun but definitely like after
16:41
you do it like 10 times
16:43
you kind of missed a Great Movie Ride I
16:45
definitely miss the Great Movie Ride
16:46
considerably and then you go over to
16:49
Superstar television Theater which I
16:52
have fond memories of Superstar
16:53
television which now the Frozen show
16:55
which is really really good I love the
16:56
Frozen show I love the holiday overlay
16:58
they did on the Frozen show just love I
17:00
love the the live the live sing-along
17:03
Frozen Show it's definitely worth doing
17:04
however the Superstar television I have
17:07
fond memories of my family coming here
17:08
in the early 90s and my dad would always
17:11
get on Superstar television he would get
17:13
right up front but a cast member would
17:15
ask for volunteers he would raise his
17:16
hand you know boys just flee and very
17:19
very loudly he would always get on the
17:22
show and he would either do the Lucy
17:24
scene or David Letterman scene he just
17:26
he was always kind of the center of
17:29
attention on Superstar television every
17:30
time I see this theater I think of my
17:32
dad you know getting on Superstar
17:34
television and then the sound effects
17:36
Studio which is behind Superstar
17:38
television which is now used for uh
17:40
Mickey and Minnie shorts originally was
17:43
called super Studio sound effects and
17:45
this one for a few different versions I
17:47
think even Drew Carey took it over for a
17:48
while there's like a Drew Carey themed
17:50
thing at the sound effects Studio you
17:53
know this is kind of interesting the the
17:55
way things have progressed and changed
17:58
since then of course the Epic Theater
18:01
the Epic Theater which is now used for
18:02
you know the Epic stunt spectacular and
18:05
then you would go down into after after
18:07
all that the Backlot Express which I
18:09
showed a minute ago is still the same so
18:11
I might I might get a little snack from
18:13
the backlight Express later I haven't
18:14
decided if I'm gonna get anything to eat
18:16
or not here while I'm here but you know
18:18
it'd be kind of like a good idea maybe
18:20
to get something from the back lot
18:21
Express and then heading down into where
18:23
the streets of America was which is back
18:25
basically where Batu East is now so I'm
18:27
gonna walk down there
18:28
walk down there now it is amazing that
18:31
all this little one side of Grand Ave is
18:33
all that's left of streets of America
18:35
and uh New York Ave and all that just
18:37
this area right here which is yeah
18:39
that's all that is left I have a photo
18:41
of me and my grandma back in 1996
18:43
standing in the queue line for what is
18:45
now Rising the resistance but you can
18:47
see this building behind it and you can
18:49
see the New York City skyline the fake
18:51
New York City facade off in the distance
18:52
over there too and I was definitely a
18:54
lot thinner then this was 1996 I would
18:56
have been
18:58
22 years old yeah 22 years old there is
19:02
that building right there with the Chevy
19:03
emblem on the top of it as well there's
19:06
my grandma right there yeah a lot of
19:08
really good family memories there's her
19:09
and I in front of the old Disney MGM
19:11
Studios Archway that I showed a moment
19:13
ago and there's my mom and I she's my
19:15
grandma was taking the photo of my mom
19:16
and I in front of the Chinese Theater
19:18
back in 1996 I was probably about 60
19:20
pounds lighter right there and just a
19:22
couple years a couple years younger and
19:24
take a look Great Movie Ride signage not
19:26
no Mickey mini runaway back then and
19:28
back in 1996 there was no Upper Deck
19:31
there on what is now Pizza Rizzo over
19:33
there City's top rated rat Pizza
19:35
sometimes it's lit up you can see where
19:36
it says rat pizza and right over here
19:39
was a Fozzie Bear and right over here
19:41
was a Gonzo for whatever reason they
19:44
have gotten rid of those since the 90s I
19:46
don't know why but have photographic
19:47
evidence of it as shown here my grandma
19:50
there next to Fozzie Bear right over
19:52
there and there is gonzo over there so
19:54
the fish are still there the Miss Piggy
19:57
on the fountain is still there but the
19:58
Fozzie with the umbrella long gone where
20:01
the heck are those and every time I'm
20:03
over in this area near the Muppets area
20:05
I go over to Mama Melrose which I've
20:06
eaten at many many times there's a lot
20:08
of old MGM stuff in here and this might
20:10
be the only photo that I've ever seen of
20:12
Eisner still on property Carrie Fisher
20:15
the Ewoks George Lucas Mark Hamill this
20:17
is one of the last restaurants in here
20:19
other than the Brown Derby obviously
20:20
that has a lot of the original
20:23
MGM Studio stuff oh check it out there's
20:26
John Aston right there doing a little
20:28
the cow complicate a car you just have
20:30
classic cars that would take take some
20:32
of the actors and actresses down
20:34
Hollywood Boulevard and that is uh Sandy
20:36
Duncan and the rumor is she had a glass
20:38
eye and she did an interview saying that
20:40
was just all Fable I don't know if it's
20:42
true or not but yeah I don't think she
20:43
really did have a glass eye and next to
20:45
that sound effects area used to be a
20:47
radio station check out Neil Patrick
20:48
Harris over here doing a radio I'll go
20:51
show exactly where that used to be right
20:52
there there is Phyllis Diller right
20:55
there there's George Witt from cheers
20:56
everybody knows his name and I'm not
20:59
really sure exactly where that is maybe
21:02
it'll make one of the vehicles from
21:03
Indiana Jones and be one of the
21:05
motorcycles that's over next to like the
21:07
tank that's over the exit of the Indiana
21:09
Jones stunt spectacular and as I'm
21:12
walking out of Melba Mama Melrose this
21:14
little Muppet store has not last time I
21:16
saw this open was like for a Star Wars
21:17
event they had some merchandise in here
21:19
like I don't even remember what event it
21:21
was but I remember going there for the
21:22
merchandise but it hasn't been open a
21:23
while talk about other areas that really
21:25
aren't being used properly as this kind
21:27
of back over in here always go to Mama
21:29
Melrose to eat so let's go around and
21:31
look around there's the Heckler up top
21:33
there of course from here I'm going to
21:34
go back over and I'm going to show where
21:36
the Neil Patrick Harris and the radio
21:37
thing which was right next to where the
21:39
sound effects Studio used to be they're
21:40
now they're doing a meet and greet in
21:42
there but it used to be used
21:43
specifically for like a radio station
21:45
back in the MGM Studios days that you
21:47
could kind of go there and you could
21:48
look through the window and see
21:50
celebrities being interviewed and things
21:51
like that you know a lot has changed
21:53
since the day then also I'm going to go
21:55
over in front of the Chinese Theater
21:57
where the Chinese Theater knows a lot of
21:58
different hand prints you know just like
22:00
the Chinese Theater that is in Hollywood
22:02
is that this is like probably has it
22:04
pales in comparison probably one tenth
22:06
or 1 20th of the amount of signatures in
22:09
the ground but there is a lot of opening
22:11
day 89 90 91 and then they just kind of
22:14
stopped doing it I actually saw one of
22:16
the cavalcades saw a few of them I have
22:18
some photos that I think are in my
22:20
parents house in a photo album of Bill
22:22
faberbachi who was uh he played in coach
22:24
I got to see him come and do his little
22:26
uh do the hand I don't know if he got
22:27
his hand prints but he got I got a photo
22:29
of him coming down in the car doing a
22:31
ceremony was very excited to see a
22:33
celebrity I always wanted to see a
22:34
celebrity and there are a few of them
22:36
that still have their hand prints in
22:37
here I saw a couple of them but for some
22:39
reason that's the only one I can
22:40
remember Bill faberbachi remember his
22:42
name very well I think he does a voice
22:43
on SpongeBob as well there are also some
22:46
different busts so kind of like in LA
22:48
pretty close to where the Karate Kid
22:50
Dojo is from the first Karate Kid is the
22:53
academy is the movie Academy that has a
22:55
lot of different busts of famous people
22:56
and they recreated that here next to
22:59
where Superstar television was and the
23:01
first one they removed was Bill Cosby
23:03
for evident you know for obvious reasons
23:05
when the when when they got rid of the
23:07
Bill Cosby one but then like a year
23:09
later less than a year later they got
23:11
rid of all the boss and now it's just
23:13
like a little seating area which is kind
23:15
of weird now it's just like a seating
23:16
area I'm not really sure why they got
23:18
rid of all the other bus that were right
23:19
in here in this little area now as much
23:21
as I love Batu Batu East bat 2 West let
23:26
me wax nostalgic for a sentence wax
23:28
Nostalgia whatever the phrase is well I
23:30
would have waxed something
23:35
because back in the day this would have
23:35
been
23:37
you know the streets of America stretch
23:39
through here you had the Honey I Shrunk
23:42
the Kids playground over in this area
23:45
you had potassium Canyon off in the
23:48
distance you know all that is now
23:52
got two and I do love Batu I love Star
23:56
Wars land
23:58
definitely glad it exists but I really
24:01
do miss the Golden Era of MGM Studios I
24:06
wish we could have had them you know
24:07
back then well not exactly an early on
24:10
Studios But as time went on we had Star
24:14
Wars Weekends and the Star Wars Weekends
24:16
we should bring that back Coca-Cola
24:19
Droid over there yeah so all this back
24:21
here things have definitely changed in
24:24
the last couple decades I am from the
24:25
era where I even remember when the light
24:28
what was the light show that was on
24:30
streets of America
24:32
Christmas is starting now Tim tracker
24:34
used to always say
24:36
what's the name of that show I'm drawing
24:37
a blank on it but I can remember when
24:39
that used to be not on the streets of
24:41
America I remember when that was on in
24:43
the back in residential street
24:46
with the Golden Girls house The Empty
24:47
Nest House the
24:49
Vern house or murder Saves Christmas
24:57
why do I not remember the name of that
24:57
that light show but yeah it used to be
24:59
set up oh they put the lights on those
25:03
fake facade houses at the tram would
25:05
drive around through
25:07
and then after a couple of years they
25:09
moved it on the streets of America New
25:10
York Ave and all that
25:14
and that's kind of what I remember this
25:16
this little area back here
25:17
being known as
25:19
I mean it is a great area now but yeah
25:22
that's just it's it's changed a lot oh
25:24
yeah I got a couple pretty good uh photo
25:26
pass moments of the cast member with my
25:28
MGM Studio shirt on and the what it
25:31
looked the park looked like back in 1989
25:33
right there in front of the archway
25:36
right there so I gotta look at the cast
25:38
iron was pretty excited to go oh yeah
25:39
I'd get a good photo of that so I got a
25:41
good photo of me with a little retro
25:43
goodness going on but I'm also torn
25:46
between Nostalgia and what the park is
25:48
now I mean I love Star Wars I love the
25:49
Toy Story Land so I'm kind of like yeah
25:52
out with the old in with the new but I
25:54
missed the old but I also like the new
25:55
because I don't even know if that type
25:57
of Park would work in this day and age I
25:59
mean it works at Universal Studios
26:00
Hollywood because it's such a small
26:01
portion of the backlight tour but I
26:03
don't even know if that you know a 1989
26:05
early 90s version of Studios that even
26:07
work nowadays those of us that are into
26:09
filming locations and how Productions
26:11
work and all that I don't know if we
26:13
could keep a theme park afloat I mean we
26:16
love it for Nostalgia reasons but what
26:17
it really keep was a good business model
26:19
I don't know your guess is as good as
26:21
mine but I guess we don't have to guess
26:23
because it doesn't even exist anymore
26:24
yeah this area I'm walking through right
26:26
now used to technically be backstage not
26:29
back all the backstages have kind of
26:30
shifted since the 90s I headed back over
26:32
to the Backlot Express they are
26:34
preparing up there's already now pick up
26:36
numbers mobile pickup number five it
26:38
said find a nice place to sit and relax
26:39
but I'd have to relax very long it looks
26:42
like it is now prepared I'm gonna get a
26:45
chicken salad yeah I figure it just made
26:46
sense what I was kind of talking about
26:48
the old MGM stuff to eat inside the
26:51
original MGM restaurant back a lot
26:53
Express I got a smart water I got
26:55
something that's called a southwest
26:56
chicken salad has a little bit of ranch
26:59
on it asks for a calorie count and the
27:01
cast member said they were going to ask
27:02
the chef so far I've asked at three or
27:04
four different Disney places for
27:05
somebody that I can never find a calorie
27:07
count on anything he said if I find it
27:10
out I'll come over to your table I said
27:11
if you find out what the calorie count
27:12
is come find me and tell me if there is
27:14
no calorie count you know just just stay
27:16
behind the counter it's not really that
27:18
big of a deal but I'm kind of thinking
27:19
he's not going to show up and tell me
27:21
the calendar account because I don't
27:22
think Disney does calorie counts like
27:23
some other restaurants do which is
27:24
really weird and the cast member did
27:26
come back over and say no such luck he
27:28
said they have all the nutrition
27:30
information no calorie count which is
27:32
great despite all my rage I'm still just
27:34
an MGM Studios fan in a cage I'm not
27:37
really in a cage it's just like just
27:38
like the theming it's the theming in
27:40
here but yeah I'm gonna I'm gonna just
27:42
like devour this down Go full on salad
27:44
tonight this is my meal dang this is
27:46
actually pretty good I think in the
27:47
future I'll probably end up getting this
27:48
again it's got the chicken on it's got
27:50
the little salsa it's got the lettuce
27:52
and
27:53
probably the worst thing about this is
27:54
the sauce that's on it it's like a spicy
27:57
ranch kind of sauce there's a lot of
27:59
veggies and stuff so I don't know
28:02
maybe a thousand calories for all this
28:04
and maybe 1200 I don't know I'm gonna
28:06
probably I'll put 1200 in my app there's
28:08
probably a little less of that all right
28:10
I may have now found a new go-to over
28:12
here that southwest chicken salad was
28:15
really freaking good
28:17
really good there really is something
28:20
extra special magical magical about
28:24
after hours of Hollywood Studios former
28:27
MGM Studios just a neon
28:30
as you kind of go through the park and
28:31
you know things that are illuminated
28:33
normally illuminated but then also some
28:34
neon signage
28:36
whether it be you know just normal
28:37
buildings or the Chinese Theater or down
28:40
Hollywood Boulevard down Sunset now
28:42
Sunset was a kind of an expansion that
28:44
came way later after the grand opening
28:47
of MGM Studios and it kind of branched
28:50
off
28:52
but it's really nice walking walking
28:54
through here at night and the weather is
28:55
amazing
28:57
you know if Florida wants uh spring gets
29:00
into full effect and then summer it
29:01
starts to get almost unbearable even at
29:03
night the humidity is out of control but
29:05
right tonight it is really really nice
29:08
to just wander through
29:10
Hollywood Studios
29:12
former MGM Studios it took me a long
29:14
time to get used to seeing Hollywood
29:16
Studios I got to be honest it took me a
29:18
very long time
29:20
for that to start to flow off my tongue
29:22
at a at a normal
29:24
without without you know forcing myself
29:26
to say it and I did stop into a couple
29:28
of the stores on Hollywood Boulevard
29:30
just to see if they had any specific
29:32
merchandise for today no specific
29:34
merchandise I knew that wasn't going to
29:35
happen no specific food item no
29:37
merchandise anything like that and why
29:38
would they for the 34th anniversary I
29:41
mean it says up for the 30th which like
29:43
I said was a little anti-climactic they
29:45
did parade
29:46
but I wish it wasn't a whole heck of a
29:48
lot for the the 30th as well maybe for
29:50
the 35th or maybe for the 40th but
29:52
knowing Disney and just who knows I mean
29:55
who knows who knows what they're going
29:56
to do it was going to be something next
29:58
year
29:59
or not you know and it's also kind of
30:01
another fun thing another kind of
30:03
interesting tie-in I lived on Hollywood
30:04
Boulevard for two years I lived in LA
30:07
and I also lived in Anaheim you know
30:09
first I was in Orange and I moved in
30:11
Orange California near the orange circle
30:13
I left for a while came back went to
30:16
Hollywood for two years living in the
30:17
boulevard
30:18
right with a 101 in Hollywood and sunset
30:20
meet on Carlton Ave
30:22
it's pretty much right there on Bronson
30:25
kind of over near Paramount and that
30:27
whole area and part of the reason that I
30:30
moved to Hollywood and the Nostalgia I
30:33
have for the real Hollywood a lot of it
30:36
was based on the original
30:38
MGM Studios and when I see a lot of
30:42
those structures that these were based
30:45
on
30:47
when I see the the structures of these
30:49
were based on the real ones in La I have
30:53
I almost had more Nostalgia fireworks
30:55
happening over at Epcot I almost have
30:57
more Nostalgia for the ones here and I
31:00
would get excited about seeing when I
31:02
lived in Hollywood seeing the real
31:05
buildings that the fake facades were
31:08
built on it's kind of weird because I
31:11
grew up here
31:13
loving the real Hollywood based on the
31:16
fake Hollywood
31:18
I loved this park
31:21
and maybe one of the few they did but I
31:24
definitely did so I just kind of wanted
31:26
to throw that little little tie up tie
31:29
in it yeah pretty cool you can see Epcot
31:31
over off in the distance so you can see
31:32
the Skyliner going by and that's got to
31:35
be kind of a nice little Crescendo for
31:37
the end of the beautiful evening over
31:39
there I believe that's Epcot forever
31:40
that's how close like a less than a mile
31:42
between the two parks Magic Kingdom's a
31:44
little farther than animal Kingdom's a
31:45
little bit farther but the two closest
31:47
to each other are Disney's Hollywood
31:49
Studios and Epcot Center off in the
31:53
distance
31:54
let's go do it for today I'll see you in
31:56
the next video the Vlog
31:58
is
32:00
over
32:07
also more bonus footage
32:07
the last four years have gone by in the
32:10
snap in the blink of an eye and they say
32:13
the older you get the faster time goes
32:15
but I think the events of 2020
32:17
really kind of distorted and messed with
32:20
everyone's concept of time
32:24
including mine
32:30
you know because there was a couple
32:30
years where things weren't opened it
32:33
didn't seem like anything was really
32:35
happening I stayed pretty active I
32:37
stayed pretty busy
32:38
and you know just carried on through a
32:42
lot of it
32:43
but even for me
32:46
it just seems like the last three to
32:48
four years have gone by twice as fast as
32:51
any other point in my life and I can't
32:52
be the only one that has thought this
32:54
way it has been four years since the
32:57
30th anniversary of Disney MGM Studios
33:00
and that just does not seem
33:02
does this seem possible
33:12
things that make you go
33:15
you what the
33:17
