0:02 welcome everyone adam the woo here as a
0:02 recording of this tuesday june 7
0:05 2022
0:07 truck driving by the sun
0:09 is permeating right now it's a warm day
0:12 if i had to guess probably going to be
0:14 mid 90s as it
0:17 peaks in the sky heading to canyonlands
0:20 with my mom and dad we have checked out
0:22 of our hotel here in moab and we will be
0:24 going into another national park
0:26 possibly
0:28 two just
0:31 no real rhyme or reason what we're doing
0:33 however do have to be back in salt lake
0:35 city by this evening so it will be a
0:37 commuting travel day as well as
0:40 seeing some sights i
0:42 and them have never seen
0:45 inviting you that's right
0:47 to join me look
0:50 they say don't stare under the sun but
0:51 if it's on camera
0:53 it's usually okay
0:58 i'm no scientist join me
0:58 shall you and pulling out of town
1:00 noticing this car wash has a very unique
1:02 piece of artwork
1:04 it is a mountain lion of some sort or a
1:07 cougar
1:08 but inside its legs and on its back are
1:11 animals and cactuses
1:19 the tail is a cactus
1:19 and there is a hawk of some sort out of
1:21 its shoulder
1:22 the artist
1:37 not luke not luke and yesterday we went
1:37 to arches national park we thought we
1:39 kind of need to rent one of these type
1:40 of like dune buggy
1:43 items except they do not allow these in
1:45 only cars and rvs and
1:48 trucks and vans
1:50 but you see a lot of these around moab
1:51 people rent a lot of these this is just
1:53 one of the hundred different companies
1:54 that rent them and from this point gonna
1:56 head down this road
1:58 to both the state park and national park
2:01 21 miles and 22 miles
2:04 try to kind of hit both of these today
2:06 stopped to this overlook where get a
2:08 pretty good view of the monitor and
2:10 merrimack buttes
2:13 which are
2:15 right over there by the way
2:18 no fireworks allowed up here
2:20 but those are the two buttes over there
2:23 see a few jeeps down there that's the
2:24 road is drove up up on
2:27 winding around
2:29 a truck going by
2:35 they don't call this well this is the
2:35 road to canyonland but they don't call
2:36 this canyonlands
2:38 for nothing this is a big canyon
2:45 there's those two rock structures i was
2:45 describing that was on that little
2:46 information
2:48 area back there
3:04 it's very quiet quiet out here also
3:04 with the exception of the traffic you
3:05 really don't hear too much
3:08 well besides footsteps
3:25 which i'm about to go over into dead
3:25 horse state point
3:28 dead horse point state park
3:32 one thing i find interesting though
3:34 is there's a sign here that says 10
3:36 minute parking
3:43 we got nine more minutes now we've got
3:43 nine more minutes
3:47 so if anyone wants to take a photo here
3:48 they have 10 minutes to make sure they
3:50 get the perfect photo
3:56 should we just sit here nine more
3:56 minutes
3:57 no
3:58 and this is an open range
4:01 which means
4:12 there are live cows out here the
4:12 opposite
4:13 of the name of the state park
4:16 got this little station here you have to
4:18 go in
4:19 looks like a private vehicle is twenty
4:22 dollars a motorcycle's ten
4:24 we're in a private vehicle so
4:32 twenty dollars
4:32 day use area open from 6 a.m to 10 p.m
4:42 this national park passes are not
4:42 accepted this isn't a national park so
4:44 the national park
4:46 state park
4:47 so if we had a national park pass which
4:49 we
4:50 we don't have one it would not be active
4:52 here this is a state parks uh 20 bucks
4:55 found a little parking area gonna stop
4:57 off at also
4:58 no bikes in this area a lot of people do
5:00 ride their bikes up here in fact
5:03 there's bike racks way out here you
5:04 always see a lot of people
5:06 riding their bikes but visitor center
5:08 and there's an overlook here too
5:10 i'm going to walk up to this ledge here
5:12 i want to get too close
5:15 to the ledge but they do have
5:17 wow
5:28 where's the walk out here huh
5:28 oh my goodness gracious
6:00 now off in the distance our solar
6:00 evaporation ponds
6:03 getting the pot
6:04 ash that is what is down there at the
6:08 bottom of that basin
6:10 well at the bottom of the canyon you
6:12 know what this reminds me of right
6:14 what remember in 2015 you came out to
6:17 california and we drove from los angeles
6:20 or anaheim
6:21 to the grand canyon yeah so that was
6:23 been seven years ago since we were at a
6:25 canyon together
6:27 this isn't quite as massive as the grand
6:30 canyon but it definitely has the grand
6:32 vibes today either we might see
6:33 but we canyon
6:36 something even bigger than this that's
6:36 true we haven't finished today
6:38 but seeing you walk up to the edge of
6:40 this reminding me of when you were
6:41 walking up to the grand canyon in 2015
6:45 kind of took me back to that time seeing
6:47 you walk up and see in the grand canyon
6:48 for the first time yeah
6:50 breathtaking
6:59 it's almost like i'm walking the plank
6:59 i think this might be put here for photo
7:00 op so people could do this yeah it could
7:02 be
7:03 i'll have you here behind me yep yeah
7:07 yep
7:17 oh it went it's gone
7:17 inside the gift shop now not gonna exit
7:19 through the gift shop but enter through
7:21 the gift shop
7:25 i like this one
7:25 we're in the sweet shades and down on
7:27 the lower floor of the visitor center
7:30 gift shop is a desert big horn sheep
7:33 display
7:35 yeah reminds me of big thunder mountain
7:38 you best remove them
7:40 can you see the dinosaur track
7:43 somewhere on this rock according to this
7:46 is a dinosaur
7:48 track
7:49 i'm gonna guess it's probably
7:52 right there
7:53 yes i think that's two
7:55 toes
7:56 okay the three-toed dinosaur oh here you
8:00 know what here's maybe the partial third
8:02 toe over here
8:03 maybe possibly two prominent toes
8:08 oh yeah
8:09 this is the
8:10 dilophosaurus
8:12 model
8:14 maybe that's possibly according to this
8:17 according to that
8:20 and if that is on the internet you know
8:23 it's true it's got to be
8:25 drove a little bit of a ways up getting
8:26 out of the car now at another pull off
8:29 parking spot area
8:42 don't want to get too close to the edge
8:42 though no guard rails no nothing
8:48 just want to
8:48 take in this majestic view
8:59 interesting thing i read
8:59 once wow articles i've seen a common
9:02 mistake a lot of people make is when
9:04 they're taking photographs
9:06 they don't notice how close they are to
9:08 the edge
9:09 you know so someone will be taking
9:10 pictures
9:11 and they take a step forward
9:14 and it's it
9:15 is a real problem so
9:18 definitely if you're taking a photo
9:20 stand in one spot notice how far i am
9:23 you're very you're very you're treading
9:25 wisely over to another parking area i
9:27 think this is the main point there's a
9:29 camper van
9:30 right there rentals
9:32 and this
9:33 vehicle has dinosaurs on it
9:39 also a spot where you can put fresh
9:39 water in there
9:41 this is the dinosaur van dinosaur mobile
9:44 pterodactyl
9:46 now we're getting down to the good stuff
9:49 this angle
9:52 colorado river down there
9:54 colorado river winding around to there
9:58 as well
10:00 really getting good view of this canyon
10:04 through here
10:05 yeah this is the
10:06 this is the point
10:09 dead horse point
10:16 the overlook
10:16 at least they had these things around
10:17 because
10:18 grand canyon they don't have very much
10:20 of these things like this that's true
10:22 some parts of the grand canyon they do
10:23 have
10:24 stuff like this but there are some areas
10:26 where you can just walk right out to the
10:27 edge
10:38 now this is technically not canyonland
10:38 national park
10:39 canyonland would be on the other side of
10:41 these canyons so i'm kind of curious to
10:43 see
10:44 what it'll be like over there
10:51 and also somewhere around here
10:51 was the climactic scene
10:54 where they drove off the ledge
10:57 i'm stalling for time because i forgot
10:59 the name of the movie louise
11:02 louise
11:08 thelma
11:08 thelma and louise there we go we'd get
11:10 it eventually
11:17 need the sunglasses out here it's bright
11:17 and there are lots of paved trails from
11:19 the parking areas to get up to there's
11:21 some of those gnats
11:22 not as many nats as the other day when
11:24 we're out at the other park
11:26 these are little tiny nets
11:28 little tiny one those were kind of big
11:30 yeah these are different different breed
11:32 of gnats
11:33 and on the way out went back inside
11:37 the visitor information area and gift
11:39 shop and asked
11:40 about where the thelma louise spot is
11:42 and they said you probably can't get
11:43 there unless you have a four-wheel drive
11:44 it says i'm not driving a four-wheel
11:46 drive you don't have a four-wheeler
11:48 i'm just going to go off this guide map
11:49 where i was at the point
11:52 overlook i was kind of in the right area
11:53 here's the arrow
11:54 showing where it was pretty neat a
11:55 little movie history out here all right
11:57 on this road
11:59 the sign that's blinking says watch for
12:02 cows on the roadway
12:08 all right big the foot we got to watch
12:08 for cows
12:11 now approaching the canyon land sign
12:14 clearly i was not the only one that had
12:15 the same idea to walk up here and
12:17 document this for posterity
12:31 united states department of the interior
12:31 national park service
12:41 camera post for when you need a helping
12:43 hand
12:45 someone has placed a rock
12:47 on the camera post
13:01 and another entrance station here
13:01 the price is same as it was to go in
13:03 arches yesterday
13:05 because this is a national park private
13:06 vehicle
13:08 thirty dollars
13:13 canyonland
13:13 this just shows the distance of some of
13:15 the landmark or overlooks i should sign
13:18 definitely want to go over to grand view
13:20 point that sounds like it'd be pretty
13:22 amazing 12 miles
13:24 upheaval dome is 11.3 miles also a
13:26 campground and green river overlook
13:48 all right this is as close as i'm going
13:48 to get to the edge there's basically
13:50 like a bush right here another bush
13:52 right here
13:53 but i'm just going to i'm kind of this
13:55 is as close as i'm going to get there
13:57 there are there are no what'd you say
13:59 mom there's a row going down in there
14:01 what did you say before that please
14:03 don't go no closer i'm not going any
14:05 further than this this is this is as
14:06 close as i'm going
14:07 even this the even this is a little
14:10 kind of uneasy feeling
14:17 but this definitely the other spot
14:17 was pretty spectacular this is like a
14:19 little more spectacular simply because
14:21 of the layers you see
14:24 of the canyon from this angle and where
14:26 we were before
14:27 was over that way over there that was
14:30 the state park this is the national park
14:32 side
14:39 yeah there's a road down there wow i
14:39 just felt a bug in my ear
14:41 it was like a bug was like
14:51 we made it to canada
14:51 yep the 75 year old woman made it
14:59 i got a show where i perch my camera
14:59 right here in this tree
15:04 i like the challenge of finding a place
15:04 to put a little mini tripod all right
15:06 there's some motorcycles down there
15:13 on that dirt road
15:13 i'm not sure why those motorcycles are
15:14 making that noise though
15:16 it's the type of motorcycle it is
15:19 boy there's a lot of gnats around me
15:21 right now
15:26 now there are a bunch of different areas
15:26 to canyonland the one we're going to be
15:28 traversing around is called island in
15:29 the sky
15:32 but it's it's massive area but the one
15:33 we're going to be going around island in
15:37 there's a flower blooming
15:39 out of
15:40 cactus
15:42 that's neat
15:47 and this is a very popular trail to get
15:47 to this arch it's about a third of a
15:49 mile this at about three tenths of a
15:50 mile a lot of people on this trail
15:54 going this direction
16:00 there's even a park ranger up here that
16:00 said those desert flowers are called
16:02 prickly pears
16:04 prickly pear is that what you call them
16:07 you see prickly pears okay the path is
16:09 continuing and i'm starting to see the
16:11 arch
16:12 from here it was called mesa arch
16:16 off in the distance
16:18 it's a little bit of a hike
16:20 see what it looks like
16:22 up here a little closer down through the
16:25 window
16:26 as it is referred to
16:31 wow look at this look at this
16:34 oh my goodness now from a distance
16:37 i thought that this you could stand
16:38 underneath it but do not stand
16:40 underneath the arch because it that last
16:42 step
16:43 the first steps of doozy
16:46 oh my gosh there's also signs
16:48 walking in saying stay off this arch do
16:50 not climb
16:51 up on this archway look at that
16:54 yeah look at this
16:56 whatever you do
16:58 don't look oh my gosh there's like i
17:00 can't believe there's not like a railing
17:01 here saying don't go any closer than
17:04 this because
17:05 yeah if you were in a hurry and you're
17:06 like i'm gonna go get underneath the
17:07 arch that would be bad
17:11 that would be real bad all over there
17:13 it's just steep drop off
17:46 this is
17:46 so dang cool
17:51 look at that view
17:51 impressive kind of wrestling on the hike
17:53 back
17:54 over here in the the shade this tree
17:57 you said these are little pine cones i
17:59 would think so because that's where all
18:00 the seeds are
18:02 see you look at them real close
18:04 those fall off
18:07 see oh yeah and that's the seed to make
18:09 more pine trees
18:11 that's the way
18:12 pine trees are oh you make more pine
18:15 trees and drove up the ways a little bit
18:17 more went back to the car
18:19 arrive now at the overlook of the orange
18:22 cliffs
18:34 again i know i'm reiterating what i said
18:34 but
18:39 so what
18:39 green
18:40 oh the green content to it because of
18:42 the grass i guess the greenish tint oh
18:44 so down here
18:46 the different layers i was saying about
18:49 different you know all the different
18:50 layers all the way down the canyon
18:52 and the different colors too you got the
18:53 brown beige green
19:09 and i've now made it to the pinnacle the
19:09 farthest point
19:11 to this parking area at the grand view
19:13 lookout area
19:15 here's a big tour bus rolling through
19:17 here
19:18 they're gonna have trouble finding a
19:20 parking spot
19:29 i'm going to say that they're they're
19:29 going to have trouble finding a parking
19:30 spot i agree we we
19:32 we drove around for a bit to find one up
19:35 i think this i think everybody else
19:37 parked in this bus parking over here
19:39 that's a possibility campers over there
19:40 all those campers are in the bus parking
19:42 yep and grand view point is just down
19:44 here at the end of this walkway 300 feet
19:48 from where i am going to be quite the
19:50 overlook
19:51 a grand overlook
19:53 as they call it
19:54 now there is no railing there over here
19:58 a little bit of this wooden fence
20:00 go over the side
20:01 oh my gosh
20:03 now this is an elevation of 6 000 feet
20:05 so a little over one mile up
20:09 from this point and because it is the
20:10 far end where the road just kind of
20:12 stops in the parking area
20:15 you really get a more expansive look
20:16 than some of the other viewpoints
20:29 this is as far as we can go
20:29 replace this fence here just so we know
20:31 that this is the stopping point the end
20:34 of the trail the end of the dusty trail
20:36 do not drop your phone don't you drop
20:39 your phone
20:41 well i guess you know this isn't quite
20:44 there so you got a little dramatic drop
20:47 a much more dramatic drop there
20:50 lots of different layers
20:52 in fact
20:54 speaking of layers look down there so
20:56 even that down there would be a
20:57 spectacular canyon on the sound
21:28 and it's hard to tell because i'm zoomed
21:28 way up but even those little spires down
21:30 there
21:31 are probably hundreds
21:33 of feet tall
21:41 all scattered through that bottom canyon
21:42 we zoom out just to show how far down
21:43 that is
21:45 or even out there even more
21:46 is there some kind of a building down
21:48 there that's like building
21:50 a building
21:56 near the oh yeah
21:56 is that it might be let me zoom in
22:03 trying to figure out what that is it is
22:03 a is a building if that's a building
22:07 then the perspective of just how far up
22:09 we are in comparison to that ant-like
22:11 looking building
22:13 or a vehicle
22:20 i didn't notice that that's way down
22:36 i'm getting a national lampoon's
22:36 vacation moment where chevy chase he's
22:39 in a little bit of a that's the thing
22:41 okay i saw it let's go
22:44 the thought that's in my mind right now
22:46 is
22:47 of course believing in god and believing
22:49 what the bible says about the flood of
22:51 noah's day how many tons
22:54 of water
22:56 did this
22:57 when it receded from here
23:19 and all of the
23:19 tectonic plates shifting
23:28 this is showing some of the landmarks
23:29 that are way down there and the height
23:31 of them so the totem pole
23:33 is 305 feet tall it's the tallest
23:36 feature in the
23:38 in the basin and that's right there in
23:40 the center of the screen way down there
23:41 so it looks like
23:43 miniature from up here but it's actually
23:45 300 feet tall which is you know 100
23:47 yards of football field heights
24:30 another rock up
24:30 there teetering on top of a
24:34 piece of stone
24:54 and from the past it looks like there's
24:54 some dinosaurs out here
24:56 roaming around connecting with this road
24:58 to help head back up to salt lake city
25:01 here at the connecting road a little
25:03 prehistoric creatures
25:04 tell me which way to to go
25:07 well that's
25:08 i don't know if they really tell me or
25:10 not but that's my interpretation they're
25:12 saying go that way go that way and in
25:15 order to get back to salt lake need to
25:17 fuel up four dollars
25:19 90 cents a gallon
25:22 self-pumping
25:24 gas nozzle
25:26 get back on the open road back to salt
25:28 lake it's been a fun couple days here
25:31 in the moab area
25:36 i'm being watched by surveillance camera
25:39 right now and this is kind of an
25:41 appropriate spot to do the outro
25:43 here at this sign with some of the
25:46 names here you got moab nine miles the
25:49 other direction
25:51 and moose jaw bluff
25:55 zion
25:57 and this old church
25:59 that i showed on the way in a couple
26:01 days ago
26:06 it's been a fun couple days down here
26:06 and that's gonna do it for
26:09 today
26:11 from the moab area
26:13 still going to be in salt lake city for
26:15 a little bit longer
26:16 heading back up there for a series of
26:18 days do some things around salt lake you
26:20 know ogden
26:22 some of the other areas provo utah those
26:25 sections
26:27 thanks for watching i really appreciate
26:28 it i'll see you in the next video it is
26:30 bright and sunny out here and not a
26:32 cloud in the sky
26:34 gonna get some road trip snacks i fueled
26:36 up
26:38 i'll see the next video
26:40 vlog
26:44 that's bright
26:44 it's over
