0:03 Today's adventure begins as the
0:03 recording of this Wednesday, December
0:06 17th,
0:07 7:56
0:09 a.m. Checking out of my hotel here at
0:13 the Disney
0:15 Cheyenne or Disney Hotel Cheyenne. And
0:19 I've got to make my way
0:22 to the Paris airport. I'm catching a
0:24 flight and going home. A complicated
0:26 flight to go home. Originally,
0:31 my flight was at 400 p. p.m. this
0:32 evening, direct flight from Paris to
0:36 Orlando with no connections or layovers.
0:39 But then late last night,
0:43 Air France cancelled my flight without
0:46 really any reason. Booked it through
0:49 Delta. It was a Delta booking through
0:52 Air France. So, I had to get another
0:54 flight. So, now I'm going to Detroit
0:57 early. Welcome everyone out of the woo
1:00 here. All part of the experience, the
1:03 excitement of travel. Things change at
1:05 the last second that are out of your
1:06 control. Just got to make the best of
1:08 it.
1:10 It's kind of amazing. It's just about
1:12 8:00 a.m. Still dark out here. Still
1:16 still completely dark. The sun will be
1:18 rising pretty soon. I'm going to get
1:19 myself some coffee, get a Uber, get over
1:22 to the airport, get the day started.
1:23 Join me. Let's have a travel day. a long
1:26 travel day, shall you? I think it's
1:29 about nine and a half hours to Detroit
1:32 and then I got a two hour two and a half
1:34 hour lay over there or connection there
1:36 and then once I get on that plane to MCO
1:39 Orlando from Detroit about 2 hour and
1:41 40m minute flight. So 16-hour travel day
1:44 once I'm at the airport or once I'm in
1:46 the air. Did not expect to have almost
1:48 an hour Uber ride. 55 minutes. It's 8:56
1:52 right now.
1:54 was kind of rolling the dice whether I
1:55 should take the train, but then I would
1:56 had to take my luggage and walk through
1:59 Disney Village, wait for the train. At
2:02 7:00 it was a 35minute ride from my
2:05 hotel to the airport. At 8:00 it was a
2:09 55minute ride. So I think in the future
2:12 obviously my 4:00 flight I would have
2:14 taken the train, but I didn't want to I
2:18 didn't want to miss the flight by
2:19 waiting at a train station.
2:23 But I think probably would have been
2:24 quicker by a few minutes to take the
2:27 train. But I got 35 35 minutes 40
2:29 minutes for my train or for my flight
2:34 boards. Boarding in 40 minutes. A little
2:38 stressful
2:39 being able to I still haven't gone
2:41 through security or anything. Obviously
2:43 the flight takes off after boarding so I
2:46 don't have to get there right at
2:47 boarding. But be kind of nice to
2:50 just know I'm on the plane.
2:53 Where is this gate? Okay, 2E
3:01 gate K48
3:01 is what I'm looking for. So, I'm going
3:02 in the right direction.
3:13 K48.
3:13 I just hope
3:15 bag check and everything is very quick.
3:22 I got this. So, I got this. All right.
3:22 It looks like it's departing at 10:30
3:24 now, not 10:25.
3:26 DL229 on time.
3:30 K48 kind of right there in the middle.
3:33 Detroit Wayne
3:35 >> 10:30 checkin 3
3:38 g K48
3:46 K48. K48.
3:46 >> Committed to memory.
3:48 >> Prime holiday travel time, too.
3:51 That isn't
3:53 It should be okay.
3:55 Be boarding right over this direction.
3:59 Passport check.
4:02 18 minutes till boarding.
4:09 18 minutes till I board.
4:09 12 minutes till I board. Sent me over
4:12 here to an area for a bag check. They
4:14 pulled this thing down right when I was
4:15 walking up. So now I'm just waiting
4:16 here.
4:26 Cutting it close. All right, that was a
4:26 little bit of a mess, but I made it
4:27 through. My plane is boarding now. Got
4:28 to get over there before it takes off.
4:30 All right, I think I am good. It's
4:33 boarding started 5 minutes ago. K48.
4:37 At least the plane isn't taking off.
4:40 Wait, this is 45 47. Where's 48? Where's
4:43 48? Oh, there it is. K 48. Boarding
4:48 expected at 9:30. Okay, boarding has not
4:50 started yet. Okay, good. Okay, a minute
4:52 later, it starts boarding. That is kind
4:57 of close.
4:58 I got a little worried because
5:01 my over the shoulder bag and my laptop
5:03 that I took out of my backpack, they had
5:06 to double check. So, got it. They took
5:08 that tray and they took it over to the
5:10 the person that does the thorough check.
5:20 And that tray was behind about 10 other
5:20 people. So that delayed it about I don't
5:23 know 20 minutes I had to wait there. So
5:25 I was really kind of getting worried.
5:27 But they didn't even check my laptop or
5:29 the bag. They were just like you're good
5:30 to go after they checked everybody
5:31 else's tray. So I guess there was
5:32 nothing in it. I just slid off to the
5:35 wrong side or something. I'm heading on.
5:39 Most stressful part of the day is pretty
5:41 much over as long as this plane takes
5:42 off.
5:45 I got a pretty decent connecting flight
5:48 in Detroit timewise. I'm not going to be
5:49 rushed there.
5:51 Man, I was really starting to sweat it a
5:54 little bit thinking I wasn't going to
5:55 make it on this thing.
6:07 >> Check this out. You got to walk down
6:07 some stairs to get on the Hello.
6:11 I
6:17 >> think I'm in 2J. Double check. I think
6:17 I'm in seat 2J.
6:24 >> I got to take a bus.
6:24 Where's the bus?
6:30 >> I know,
6:30 >> right?
7:12 You do?
7:12 >> Yeah.
7:31 >> We were on the bus for a half hour
7:31 before it started moving. It's now
7:33 10:06.
7:35 Flight's supposed to take off in 19
7:38 minutes. I don't think that's going to
7:40 happen.
7:42 We were in a cramped full bus for
7:44 probably 25 minutes before this thing
7:46 started moving. 20 minutes before it
7:47 started moving.
8:01 >> Long as I get to Detroit, that's all
8:02 that matters. And time for my
8:03 connection.
8:04 Okay, let's go.
8:05 >> And if it doesn't work out, I stay in
8:07 Detroit tonight.
8:18 >> This is pretty cool though. I got to
8:18 admit,
8:27 they may may not be placing your seat
8:27 pockets. Wi-Fi will be available once
8:29 we've departed the gate. Wi-Fi networks
8:31 server to make voice or video calls.
8:34 >> This is an A330-200300
8:44 >> heading to Detroit and then relax for a
8:44 little bit in Detroit, then get on a
8:46 plane to Orlando and then be home
8:47 tonight. These seat configurations are
8:50 wild. You can go all the way down, all
8:52 the way up. Or if you just want to like
8:55 push this area of the seat down, just
8:57 underneath your tukus or the back, you
9:00 can kind of go back a little bit. Or the
9:02 far back can go back a little bit.
9:07 And that's a nice seat.
9:09 Goes all the way flat, too. Catch some
9:11 Z's if you so choose. I don't know if I
9:15 will just simply because it's a day
9:18 flight, but never know. Maybe go take a
9:20 little
9:21 >> little snooze for a half hour. So
9:24 you have a pretty good movie selection
9:25 on here as well.
9:39 >> All right. Do you need anything?
9:39 >> Thank you.
9:45 >> Bottle of water, some slippers,
9:45 a little
9:48 >> chair
9:57 to the motor city of Detroit, Michigan
9:57 with connections to other parts of the
9:59 planet. It's a beautiful day to fly once
10:01 airborne. 8 hours and 34 minutes over to
10:04 Detroit Metro where they are forecasting
10:06 not a bad day. Overcast skies, good
10:08 visibility. Temperature upon our arrival
10:11 41° F which is actually pretty pretty
10:14 warm for this time of year and the high
10:17 temp's going to be 42 with winds out of
10:19 the southwest about 10 to 15 miles an
10:21 hour. As you probably figured out, we
10:23 have a group of the best Detroit based
10:26 flight attendants led by Greg in our
10:28 Delta 1 cabin. I just want you to
10:30 remember that their primary purpose is
10:32 your scoch more uh fuel uh because of
10:36 the aerodynamics and the parasitic drag
10:38 that's associated with that missing
10:40 piece. But the good news is um
10:43 >> there's a piece of the airplane missing
10:45 flight attendants we do know about it
10:46 and we'll get one put on there sooner or
10:49 later.
10:50 >> Other than that the aircraft is in
10:51 superb working order. We anticipate an
10:53 ontime push back and on time arrival
10:55 into Detroit. for now. Sit back, relax.
10:58 >> I said it's just a structural issue,
11:00 though. It does not affect the airplane
11:02 in any form. Interesting.
11:15 >> Normally, I sit close to the wing, but I
11:15 am in the very front seat this time, so
11:18 won't be able to get a view of the wing
11:21 from where I'm at.
11:35 Yeah, you can kind of see it.
11:35 Take off.
13:55 And with only 8 days till Christmas,
13:55 going to watch some holiday Christmas
13:57 movies on the plane. I think I'm going
14:00 to start off with Tim Allen, Santa
14:03 Claus.
14:05 I'm going to watch a couple.
14:11 Haven't seen a Santa Claus in a while.
14:11 So,
14:46 All right, got some food.
14:46 Little Thai soup,
14:49 some shrimp.
14:52 It's like a piece of bread here and a
14:54 salad.
15:05 Yeah, I forgot how good the Santa Claus
15:05 was about halfway through. Also forgot
15:08 that FedEx used to just be called
15:10 Federal Express. I mean, I knew that,
15:13 but seeing it on the van and the vans in
15:15 the movie when they deliver the naughty
15:19 and nice to his house,
15:22 I guess back in '94, it wasn't shortened
15:24 to FedEx yet.
15:28 Pretty good movie. Forgot how funny it
15:30 was.
16:06 All right,
16:06 Santa Claus is finished. Man, that was a
16:09 good movie.
16:15 That is a such a great Christmas movie.
16:15 All right, let's see what else I can
16:17 find.
16:32 Little Home Alone Christmas Classic.
16:32 All right, got pretty dark in here. We
16:36 dimmed the lights.
16:38 I got a about half hour, 45 minutes into
16:40 Home Alone. I think I may take a little
16:41 nap on the plane also.
16:51 Noticing how in Home Alone the neighbors
16:51 kid
16:54 asked if they're going out of town. He
16:56 says his family's going to Orlando,
16:58 Florida. That's where I'm going.
17:08 I guess I never noticed that in that
17:08 movie before.
17:10 Little Orlando, Florida reference.
17:19 finish the movie after I lay down for a
17:19 little bit.
17:21 Enjoy this
17:23 seat that lays completely down.
17:42 Still got a long way to go.
17:42 So, six more hours just to Detroit.
17:53 and then the flight from Detroit to
17:53 Orlando
17:56 just like the neighbors kid in Home
17:57 Alone.
18:18 There's some crazy turbulence going on
18:28 Laid down for a few minutes. I was
18:28 awoken.
18:31 Whole thing shaking.
18:41 This is a lemon cake
18:41 of some sort. I think he sells a lemon
18:44 cake cookie. Also going to bring me a
18:46 cup of coffee. I realized I haven't had
18:48 any coffee today. I was in such a rush
18:50 to get to the airport. Get myself a
18:52 little coffee.
18:54 Also, while I'm watching Home Alone, I
18:56 realized that the family went to Paris.
18:58 So, they mentioned Orlando where I'm
19:00 heading home to, and they went to Paris,
19:03 which is where I'm flying out of. So,
19:06 kind of funny.
19:22 finished home alone. That was awesome as
19:22 always.
19:31 Seriously, such a great movie. Never
19:31 ever ever gets old. The second half of
19:34 it when the wet bandits are trying to
19:36 get in the house is some of the funniest
19:38 stuff ever.
19:39 So good. All right, two movies down.
19:42 Find another Christmas film.
19:45 Still got another 3 hours and 18 minutes
19:47 till landing in Detroit. Oh yeah, I know
19:50 what time it is.
19:53 One of my favorite action films of all
19:55 time. A flawless
19:57 action movie. It's also a Christmas
20:00 film. Yes, indeed. Set at Christmas
20:03 time.
20:05 John Mlan.
20:33 I love this movie.
20:33 Never ever ever gets old. Perfect action
20:36 film. Amazing. Let's go.
20:39 >> Arrival service now. And we have
20:42 approximately 40 minutes to accomplish
20:43 this. You can help us to
20:46 >> get ready to go through some some more
20:47 turbulence.
20:49 >> This would be an excellent time to go
20:50 ahead and restore those bags and make
20:52 sure that your seat belts are fastened.
21:12 Please return to your seat immediately
21:12 so that we can go ahead and service you.
21:14 Thank you.
21:21 All finished up with Die Hard and that
21:21 is
21:23 an incredible phone.
21:26 One of the best.
21:29 I love it.
21:32 I was lucky enough, I think it was last
21:34 Christmas or maybe the one before, I
21:36 played on the big screen and I got to
21:38 see it on the big screen again, which
21:40 was awesome.
21:45 Yeah.
21:45 One of my favorite action films ever.
22:04 Yeah, if the flight wouldn't have been
22:04 cancelled, direct flight, I would have
22:06 been home shortly after this flight is
22:08 landing in Detroit. But just an added
22:10 step. But I'll get home.
22:13 Looks like I'll be getting home tonight.
25:04 Welcome you to Detroit's Metropolitan
25:04 Lane County International Airport. The
25:06 local time is 1:30 p.m. Please stay
25:09 seated with your seatelt fastened and
25:11 all carryon items stood until the
25:12 captain has turned off the seat belt
25:14 sign.
25:16 Please be careful when opening overhead
25:17 bins to avoid injury from items that may
25:20 have shifted during flight. And before
25:22 you leave the aircraft, please take a
25:24 moment to look around your seating area,
25:26 including those seat pockets. Make sure
25:28 that you have all of your personal
25:29 belongings.
25:55 I got to go through border patrol here
25:55 and then that's it. back in the US.
26:03 Quick and easy border patrol. Check the
26:03 passport
26:04 also learned. So I always do carry on. I
26:08 don't ever do check baggage. But if I
26:10 had done check baggage, I would have had
26:13 to gotten the bags off here and then
26:17 my next flight from here to Orlando,
26:19 check the bags again. They don't reroute
26:20 them. All right. I had to go through
26:22 another TSA, which is kind of
26:23 interesting. and they can go through
26:25 another TSA. So, mine is already at the
26:28 gate. Delta 1133,
26:30 4 p.m., gate 82. It's 206 right now. So,
26:35 still got 2 hours before it takes off.
26:38 Probably an hour and a half before it
26:39 boards.
26:41 Made it through.
26:43 Also, this time I had to get this
26:44 checked through TSA.
26:46 And the lady that was searching the bag
26:48 said, "Do you have magnets in there?"
26:50 And it was the magnets that set it off.
26:54 back in the US. That was my last
26:57 international trip of the year and
27:00 my last international trap trip trip
27:03 until 2027 cuz of 2026. All US, no
27:07 international. So no lengthy flights,
27:11 nothing more than like, you know, four
27:12 or five hours at most.
27:19 Definitely fulfilled my quota.
27:19 Put some sky miles on this year. I have
27:21 racked them up.
27:24 Next year, the only time I'm going to
27:26 fly in the US is to go to the start or
27:28 the ending of six of the major road
27:31 trips I'm going to be doing full cross
27:34 country, back roads,
27:36 etc. And some of them, you know, aren't
27:39 where I live near Florida. So, I got to
27:41 fly to start them or
27:45 fly back when I end them.
27:47 So, I will be getting on planes, but
27:49 nothing like I've done the last few
27:51 years. And this year
27:55 kind of looking forward to just more car
27:57 travels next year. Definitely done a lot
28:00 of flights.
28:02 Too many. And if this isn't a sign that
28:04 I'm back in the US, I don't know what
28:06 is. It's a concrete mixer.
28:09 US flag on it. A little bit of a time
28:13 change as well from Paris.
28:16 Gain some hours coming this way.
28:19 It is now 2 or 2:10
28:23 which means I think Paris from here 5
28:27 hour difference was probably 7:00 in
28:28 Paris. Maybe it was 6 hour difference
28:32 from Orlando. So I'm going to lose an
28:35 hour going from Detroit to Orlando. It's
28:37 all very confusing. But
28:41 no matter what, it still ends up being a
28:43 long travel day with flights. No matter
28:45 what the no matter what the clock says.
28:47 All right, I stand corrected. Detroit is
28:49 the same time zone as Orlando. So, never
28:53 mind. It's the same time zone as
28:54 Orlando, so I'm not going to lose
28:55 anything going back. It is currently
28:58 2:10 in Detroit and 2:10 in Orlando and
29:02 8:10 p.m. in Paris, where I just flew
29:05 out of.
32:48 Heat up
33:00 Heat.
35:32 Yeah. 17 minutes to 7. 18 minutes to 7.
35:32 Florida time.
35:34 Let's see. Paris time would be 6 hours
35:37 past that. So, it' be 1:00 a.m. in Paris
35:41 right now if I was still in Paris. It's
35:43 been a day. Christmas tree.
35:56 Christmas is almost here.
35:56 >> Car insurance.
36:27 >> That's the first time that has ever
36:27 happened. Ever.
36:30 >> The little things.
36:33 >> He's going to win though.
36:54 >> Man, I am so happy to be back. I cannot
36:54 express that enough. I am so glad to be
36:57 back.
36:59 >> Tree covering the fountain that is
37:00 usually there.
37:02 Love it.
37:05 Good to be home. Well, I'm not home yet,
37:07 but soon. Good to be
37:11 back in Orlando. Soon to be back in my
37:14 house in celebration. Good to be back in
37:17 the States.
37:28 All right. Going to grab an Uber home.
37:28 Should be home in a half hour or so.
37:32 All right. Just waiting on the car.
37:34 There's a Pokemon car right there. Look
37:35 at that.
37:44 Are you here for the Uber?
37:44 Heading home.
38:00 Successfully made it home.
38:00 Everything's good.
38:03 I have certainly got my use out of the
38:06 passport this year and future years.
38:09 Hopefully, we'll be able to do more
38:10 international travel again next year,
38:12 focusing on the US.
38:15 But I have done a lot and gone a lot of
38:18 places
38:19 by finally getting this thing.
38:22 It's been a good year.
38:24 They've come in handy. I unpacked a
38:26 little bit. Some of the stuff I'm
38:27 probably just going to leave on the
38:28 table until tomorrow. pretty tuckered
38:31 out. I'm gonna call it a night, but I
38:33 wanted to show the souvenirs
38:36 that I ended up getting from all over.
38:40 Went to several different countries.
38:42 Picked up some assortment of little
38:44 knickknacks and things including pens,
38:49 a matter horn bill here.
38:52 I even got some new currency to add to
38:56 my international currency.
38:58 I didn't have any Franks, so I got a few
39:01 of those to add to every country I've
39:02 gone to. I've either gotten bills or
39:05 coins, so I have more coins to add to
39:06 that as well.
39:08 Switzerland sticker, Popeye Village,
39:12 Zerat at the base of the Matter Horn.
39:14 Also got that over the shoulder fanny
39:17 pack, cross body bag with the Matter
39:19 Horn on it. I picked up one mug. I got
39:23 the Switzerland mug right there, which I
39:25 had to get. Phantom Manor book.
39:29 I got some stuff from Rome.
39:32 There's the coliseum. Other Rome
39:35 paraphernelia and stuff. Some pins from
39:38 the Matterhorn
39:39 and Switzerland. Tons
39:43 of different pens I did not have. These
39:45 are all the different pens that I did
39:46 not have that I'm going to add. Since
39:49 when I'm back in town, I'll go up to the
39:50 pen board and
39:53 add these to that.
