0:09 sort of
0:10 animal
0:11 deer like creature behind me
0:14 do not be alarmed it is made of plastic
0:16 it is not going to nestle
0:19 its teeth into my earlobe nor is it
0:21 looking for food
0:22 in the shape of these sunglasses which i
0:24 do not need yet it is 7 15 a.m
0:27 27 degrees you can almost see
0:31 the coolness
0:32 in the air wearing my hoodie
0:35 i am heading eastbound now i am located
0:38 right here williams arizona
0:40 the gateway
0:42 to the grand canyon which is about an
0:44 hour north
0:45 says it right there
0:48 i'm not going to the grand canyon today
0:51 i'm on a bit of a not a time crunch but
0:54 i am trying to make my way eastward
0:56 to florida over the next week
0:59 to 10 days
1:00 give or take and i'm inviting
1:03 you
1:08 i love this weather
1:08 below freezing
1:09 32 is freezing
1:11 about five degrees below that the sun
1:12 the sun is rising there's a sunset
1:15 over here
1:17 of course it's starting to fade away
1:18 just a little bit you can kind of see it
1:20 there
1:27 i'm inviting you to join me
1:27 shall you
1:28 stroll around this little area before
1:31 getting back in my car
1:33 and what you're seeing here in the
1:34 bottom of the frame my sunglasses which
1:36 i really don't even need yet
1:39 here at this restored
1:41 gas station
1:43 the rock shop the rock shop
1:46 you want a rock
1:49 this is the place to get it
1:56 there's an old canoco gasoline
1:56 petroleum products
1:59 painted right there on the side
2:06 love it
2:06 love it so much i do want to come back
2:08 at some point
2:10 i've been to the grand canyon a couple
2:11 times in my life and it is really does
2:13 not
2:14 pictures and video do not do it justice
2:15 but i would like to return in the future
2:19 and stay there for a couple days at
2:20 least in the grand canyon area
2:23 now is not the time for that
2:25 imagine getting fuel
2:27 out of one of these
2:30 back in the olden days
2:37 i'm having a good time on the road so
2:39 far i've stated this before but this is
2:41 kind of a teaser if you will
2:43 of what's going to be happening with
2:45 travel starting after new year's except
2:47 after new year's i will not be going as
2:48 quick as a pace classic not car alert
2:53 but classic truck alert
2:56 long-winded intro i'm gonna get going
3:00 but not before showing
3:02 this gentleman here who is in the
3:04 holiday season he has his festive attire
3:08 on
3:12 and the shape
3:12 of a santa cat
3:14 how you doing partner
3:17 how you doing buddy
3:22 a little cold out here huh
3:22 you're cold
3:27 you stop your feet
3:30 yeah
3:36 all right
3:36 we'll get moving and in the excitement
3:38 of that cool crisp
3:40 intro
3:41 i forgot to give the date as a recording
3:43 of this it is december
3:45 1st
3:46 oh bison you're behind that fence
3:49 december 1st
3:50 2021
3:52 those are deer
3:54 hello bison deer
3:56 cougars
3:58 jaguars
3:59 and
4:01 even an eagle
4:03 up is that who is that who is that
4:06 right there
4:08 that is the real sasquatch
4:11 that is the real bigfoot
4:19 we all know who's more important
4:19 the one and only
4:21 big the foot
4:27 that's me laughing that's not big the
4:27 foot laughing
4:28 that's not big the foot laughing
4:31 i'm i'm putting putting words in his
4:33 mouth
4:35 driving into the sun
4:38 it's kind of a challenge for now as it
4:40 has just risen you know in a little
4:42 while
4:43 sun gets a little higher in the sky
4:45 won't be
4:46 quite as bad but
4:48 kind of tough to see the road sometimes
4:49 with the sun
4:51 right here glaring in the face
4:53 but it adds to the ambiance
6:12 used as a filming location
6:12 in the movie easy rider
6:15 a good road trip
6:17 flick
6:19 of course starring peter fonda dennis
6:21 hopper
6:22 and jack nicholson as well
6:30 nice touch with the train going by
6:30 they were denied lodging
6:32 here when they were going
6:36 on their road trip on motorcycles i'm
6:37 not on a motorcycle
6:39 but they were
6:42 i am loving the weather
6:50 this is pretty close to flagstaff i'm
6:50 probably 15 15 minutes from flagstaff
6:53 more or less
6:55 and the road it's on
7:01 kind of ends down there so you have to
7:01 veer off of interstate 40 to find it
7:04 and then get back on i-40 you go that
7:06 way
7:07 it's a complete stop
7:09 looking in the window here through the
7:10 glass
7:11 some good stuff in there some antiques
7:14 coca-cola machine 7-up sign
7:17 this is inside the building i just
7:20 showed the exterior of
7:22 and on the other wall is a large poster
7:26 of the three main stars from easy rider
7:29 as well
7:42 i'm gonna get moving
7:42 also pretty neat they have this
7:45 this relic here parked in front next to
7:48 the
7:49 the gas pumps worked out perfectly
7:52 when i parked
7:53 but that train went by
7:55 having some good luck with trains
7:59 so far
8:06 this is a ford
8:35 decided to wear the t-shirt i purchased
8:35 yesterday
8:36 from roy's
8:38 motel and cafe
8:41 which was kind of out in the middle of
8:42 nowhere
8:44 you never know what you're gonna find
8:46 this is very close to where i just was
8:49 about a quarter of a mile down that road
8:51 a treasure trove
8:54 if you will
8:56 holy cow look at these
8:59 beautiful relics
9:01 right here
9:02 all these old
9:04 buses and vans well all bus no vans all
9:08 buses
9:09 freeway traffic going by
9:11 this is off the access road that has no
9:14 in you you cannot
9:16 gain access back to the freeway that way
9:17 you got to backtrack
9:19 look at these
9:21 what in the heck
9:24 i am
9:25 so glad i noticed these
9:37 streamlined travel home
9:37 wow
9:43 take a look
9:43 at this
9:57 just sitting here
9:57 obviously they are owned by someone
10:11 city of commerce
10:11 municipal municipal i can't talk it's so
10:14 cold my lips aren't working municipal
10:17 bus
10:20 has the arizona license plate up in the
10:22 window
10:23 oh man this this is this is good
10:27 this is good stuff
10:52 oh i can't get over i cannot get over
10:52 this
11:20 number 58 signified right there on the
11:46 no indication on if they are for sale
11:46 or if they're going to be restored
11:48 or just
11:50 collecting dust out in the elements but
11:52 they are
11:54 magnificent
11:56 are they not
12:15 well a couple seats
12:15 because the driver has a seat
12:19 oh and
12:21 another train going by
12:24 oh
12:32 it's the little things folks it's the
12:32 little things
12:43 let's just enjoy the sounds of the train
12:43 and the traffic behind me
12:46 one last look here at these beauties
13:41 what the heck
13:41 is that
13:43 the campus of northern arizona
13:47 university look at this very futuristic
13:49 dome
13:51 here
13:53 but it's not the dome
13:55 that i wanted to showcase
13:58 it is this is rumored to be
14:00 the first if not one of the first
14:03 muffler men seen across the u.s
14:06 and it could have i cannot confirm or
14:09 deny the fact
14:11 that this could have been built in the
14:12 early 60s
14:14 for the lumberjack cafe
14:16 here in flagstaff as well and of course
14:19 been moved over here to the campus now
14:22 the reason these are called muffler men
14:24 is because the formation of
14:27 the hands
14:28 you can see
14:29 he's holding
14:31 this axe
14:33 but the formation of the hands could
14:35 have a muffler
14:36 which some of them were also utilized to
14:40 you know to give business
14:42 to a lot of mechanics
14:44 and whatnot
14:46 you know you'd be driving down the road
14:47 and this would be like a beacon i need
14:49 to get my muffler fixed
14:51 and a paul bunyan-esque figure like this
14:54 would be holding a muffler he just
14:56 happens
14:57 to be holding an axe
14:59 so that's the the kind of the back story
15:01 of
15:02 a muffler man
15:13 true americana right here
15:13 when you think of roadside attractions
15:15 and road trips at least for me
15:18 i think of the muffler man there are
15:20 quite a few of them across the u.s
15:22 and this is a this is quite a mighty
15:25 piece of history
15:28 in northern arizona
15:47 all right moving on really is some
15:47 beautiful countryside out here
15:49 i've gotten off the 40 onto another
15:51 access road
15:53 about to pull up to us kind of a
15:55 familiar spot here
16:20 more or less from this angle could be
16:20 seen in forrest gump
16:25 where him and
16:25 a bunch of others are running along here
16:27 and it's the mud scene where the smiley
16:29 face ends up on the t-shirt
16:31 it's kind of from right from this angle
16:39 also speaking of filming locations
16:39 a lot of people make the mistake
16:41 i have noticed over the years people
16:43 have said oh you were at twin arrows
16:45 arizona
16:46 that was in the
16:48 the movie joe dirt
16:50 starring david spade the fireworks scene
16:54 and that is incorrect
16:56 that was not filmed here
16:58 joe dirt was not filmed here at twin
17:00 arrows in arizona
17:02 i'm gonna get out
17:04 park my car right over here
17:06 and just kind of meander around
17:16 someone has left these down on the
17:16 ground
17:27 it is a simple mistake however
17:27 because they do show two arrows
17:30 in that scene from joe dirt
17:32 but if you watch it back closely there
17:34 mountains directly behind the fireworks
17:36 stand where here the mountains are are
17:38 way off
17:39 if you pay close attention to that
17:42 one one one other film that always comes
17:45 to mind that i get a lot of comments on
17:48 if i ever go to the la brea tar pits
17:51 in los angeles by the way this looks
17:52 like a robot
17:59 i will have people late people later say
17:59 oh you should have covered one of the
18:00 spots from last action hero
18:03 where they went to the la brea tar pits
18:05 but in fact if you've ever seen that
18:06 movie as well
18:08 even though they make it seem like it's
18:09 the tar pits
18:11 it was a pre-built
18:13 tar hit area
18:16 that was not filmed on the property
18:19 the same property at la brea tar pit so
18:21 fun fact
18:22 just for future reference
18:28 sometimes things are not
18:28 what they seem
18:30 also the arrow oh yeah noticing here the
18:32 arrow
18:34 the bottom portion of the second
18:37 twin arrow
18:38 has finally fallen off and been removed
18:41 probably been by here
18:43 at least five times in my lifetime
18:46 and each time
18:48 the bottom portion of the arrow is
18:50 starting to get a little bit more
18:52 decrepit and fall it off
18:54 and finally following someone must have
18:56 got it as a souvenir
18:59 but this is an iconic 66
19:02 spot
19:04 if ever there was one
19:06 twin arrows arizona
19:12 it
19:12 all right gotta walk up here
19:14 should be able to get inside it's all
19:16 pretty much
19:16 open to the elements open air now at
19:18 this point in
19:58 okay there are some nails down there
19:58 don't want to step on those
20:09 and the structural stability of this
20:09 has seen better days
20:39 front portion used to be a diner
20:39 back in the heyday
21:11 would have been neat to eat here
21:13 back in the day when it was still
21:16 still open for business
21:26 however those days are long gone
21:26 long
21:31 a gone of history in here
21:31 this is probably not safe
21:33 you know i'm gonna i'm not gonna stand
21:35 underneath here too long this is not
21:38 yeah just have a hard hat in here
21:40 i'm gonna go ahead and exit out this
21:42 side
21:44 into where the diner was
21:46 hey this looks a little bit better
21:49 but over here
21:51 that's about to cave in there
21:57 really surprised this is even still
21:57 standing
22:02 however
22:02 parts of the base here
22:04 parts of the structure
22:05 are made out of
22:07 this concrete and brick
22:09 and rock work
22:11 so this probably isn't going anywhere
22:12 but the woodwork
22:15 not going to be around forever
22:24 even part of the tile
22:25 tile down here all broken up
22:32 this is completely open to the elements
22:32 back here
22:33 looks like it got smashed in by
22:35 something
22:42 and the diner section
22:42 look at that this is the kitchen
22:45 very small this diner
22:47 very cozy little diner
22:50 awesome
23:00 that is now gone by the wayside even the
23:03 checkerboard
23:04 right down there and try to step through
23:06 this door
23:08 if possible
23:22 be able to show the front
23:22 got the twin arrows over there
23:29 this is a spot i always have to stop off
23:29 when i'm
23:30 trying to make up time getting
23:33 going coast to coast or going down i-40
23:42 yeah if you use your imagination you can
23:42 see the diner there
23:44 that textbook
23:45 classic architecture
23:47 of a diner even still says cafe
23:50 amongst the graffiti up top
23:57 i love it
23:57 all right moving on
24:25 approaching some relics here just above
24:25 canyon
24:26 diablo
24:31 been a little while since i passed
24:31 through this section i have been here a
24:33 number of times i should call this an
24:35 update
24:37 what it looks like now
24:39 this silhouette there might be tough to
24:41 see
24:42 but there's a silhouette of a cowboy
24:44 painted right there on the side of the
24:46 cylinder
24:47 you kind of see
24:49 him with his hat on
24:52 his arm rays there
24:54 and this building up here which
24:56 used to be standing
24:58 is falling down now it's gone oh yeah
25:00 this is great
25:02 once again the sun is silhouetting it
25:04 out but
25:05 check out the painting
25:07 below behind the graffiti there
25:17 it was part of the theming that was once
25:17 out here
25:18 at this i guess a rv resort of some sort
25:22 back in the day this is the water tank
25:24 this gentleman with the quite the scruff
25:27 wagon going on
25:29 the beard is a kicking
25:35 check out his cap
25:36 even current day if you want to do a
25:37 little camping up here a little
25:39 boondocking if you had an rv or if i
25:41 still even had my van and you had a
25:43 you know air mattress in the back
25:46 you could easily
25:48 completely accessible
25:50 to pull up in here for the evening
25:53 get 40 wings get a little shut
25:55 what it was created for even as a
25:57 business and you can even see when it
25:59 was the rv park
26:04 you have some of the electricity
26:04 portions right down there and they
26:06 stretch all across this plane
26:10 across the old dusty plains
26:17 i believe the last time i was through
26:19 this building was still standing
26:21 it was a
26:23 a shaped a shaped frame that went up
26:26 like that
26:27 and then down
26:35 but not anym
26:35 as clouseau would say
26:37 about the priceless steinway
26:43 not that this is a piano
26:43 and i have never
26:45 noticed that there was a pool over here
26:48 but there is in fact
26:50 a pool now if i fancied myself as a bit
26:52 of a skater
26:53 with any talent
26:55 on a skateboard other than just
26:57 simply going down the road
27:00 this would be oh my gosh
27:03 this would be a skater's dream right
27:05 here holy cow this is perfection
27:09 well i say that i'm not a skater
27:11 but i would imagine
27:17 this would be good for anyone that could
27:17 dawn a skateboard and utilize this to
27:20 its full potential
27:23 right look at the curve
27:25 i mean it's a pool so i don't know i'm
27:27 getting so excited but
27:28 yeah you could just see someone on
27:29 skateboard kind of dipping down grinding
27:32 the side
27:35 so if you want to make the commute
27:36 anyone that
27:39 fancies themselves is a bit of a skater
27:42 here's your spot right here
27:51 here's your spot
27:51 i'm gonna go down the hill just a bit
27:52 show see show something that's down
27:54 there hopefully it still
27:56 still remains they used to have mountain
27:58 lions
27:59 cages down
28:00 there and the sign
28:03 should still be there it's been there
28:05 been there for decades since this place
28:07 closed it's at the bottom
28:11 over there near interstate 40
28:13 of canyon diablo reminds me of the video
28:16 game
28:17 for playstation i used to play back in
28:19 the day diablo and diablo 2.
28:22 of course
28:24 no electricity out here to play video
28:26 games
28:27 it's roof caved in the whole the whole
28:30 building has fallen down the roof
28:33 crushed the walls
28:36 kind of looking for the feet
28:38 the wicked witch here the west
28:44 wouldn't surprise me if
28:44 it kind of reminds me of wizard of oz
28:52 also you might notice i'm doing a lot
28:52 longer unedited takes now obviously
28:55 these videos are edited i'm trying to do
28:58 lengthy takes
29:00 and really soak in the ambiance not just
29:02 for myself but also for the viewers for
29:04 those that are watching you
29:09 and i figure even though they might be
29:09 longer videos and not everyone could sit
29:12 and watch every moment of it at least
29:14 it's documented and can be skimmed
29:16 through or if someone wants to watch the
29:19 entire thing
29:20 they have the ability
29:22 but i'm just honestly in all honesty i'm
29:24 completely
29:26 at this stage in my game
29:29 and doing this
29:30 i just want to
29:32 i want to have some peaceful moments
29:34 not quit cuts not quick edits
29:40 and kind of go for a different type of
29:40 pacing so if you've noticed that
29:46 it is intentional it's completely
29:46 intentional
29:48 just wanted to state that
29:51 as a very noisy truck goes by
29:59 off in the distance
29:59 i'm happy to say that the mountain lion
30:07 wording here is still here across
30:07 this old abandoned zoo
30:10 pretty fantastic
30:24 now the lions well
30:24 i would imagine the lions are not here
30:27 anymore at least in the past when i
30:30 went through here i didn't see any
30:31 mountain lions around
30:34 don't want to witness any of those or
30:37 meet any mountain lions
30:40 just personal preference
30:51 you can see over there there's a lot of
30:51 rock work
30:52 former buildings across the canyon
31:01 watch your footing here so these are the
31:01 cages
31:04 they have been freed
31:14 still have the kind of chicken wire
31:14 there on top of it
31:16 we're not chickens in here though well
31:18 maybe they were
31:19 i would hope they did not have full-size
31:21 mountain lions
31:23 inside this tying these tiny cages if
31:25 they did
31:26 it is a good thing that this place
31:28 is no longer here this is a that's a
31:30 tiny
31:32 little area
31:34 for a mountain lion
31:41 i would say
31:42 over here most likely these are this is
31:44 a little bit of a bigger area
31:47 bigger a bigger hoop
31:54 right in there oh yeah
31:56 definitely see you do not notice this
31:59 going down i-4 i-40 i'm going to say i-4
32:01 so
32:03 i'm thinking of florida already once i
32:04 get back out there i-40
32:08 which is off in the distance you don't
32:09 even see this from the road you have to
32:10 get out of the car
32:12 drive off the access road and even walk
32:13 down here to notice these so if you ever
32:16 pass by
32:17 all this that i am showing if you're
32:19 ever on a road trip i highly encourage
32:22 to take your time get out
32:24 and just witness this history
32:27 that is along
32:28 not only route 66 but interstate 40.
32:35 both of those roads run pretty much
32:35 parallel to each other
32:37 through this section
32:39 this is the canyon diablo i've said that
32:41 a number of times
32:43 i just want to make it clear that there
32:45 is really a canyon back here which
32:46 really
32:47 you cannot see from the road either
32:51 not in great detail like this
32:54 you think of the grand canyon but this
32:56 is pretty
32:58 great
32:59 it's the great canyon of the diablo
33:02 action
33:05 now another you know how rumors and
33:07 hearsay and stories
33:08 can mold and morph over time you never
33:10 know if there's really truth to it but
33:12 this bridge
33:14 right here is a strong rumor
33:16 that this very bridge which i do not
33:18 think is structurally sound
33:21 and you cannot drive over at the moment
33:23 unless you are
33:25 brave to go over rocks and what not to
33:27 even get to but this bridge was
33:29 supposedly
33:30 this is what i've heard over time and
33:32 looked up
33:34 over time over the years
33:36 was one of the inspirations for cars
33:39 radiator springs same type of bridge
33:43 now there's a lot of bridges that look
33:44 like this
33:46 but you know the movie cars based on 66
33:49 this is on 66 and there's a bridge that
33:52 looks just like this in the pixar film
33:56 cars
33:57 there you have it
34:00 moving on
34:15 i love these old
34:15 relics of the past
34:40 you didn't think i was going to leave
34:41 you did you
34:42 don't worry
34:48 come along keep come come along with me
34:48 it might just be me probably not just me
34:52 but time the last couple of years
34:54 really has no bearing sometimes it seems
34:57 like it's gone by really fast
34:59 sometimes it seems like it's dragged on
35:02 i think because of 2020
35:08 really kind of messed everyone
35:08 you know their their ability to for time
35:10 but me especially in my brain
35:13 so i do not
35:14 recall exactly how long ago when i was
35:16 here maybe a year and a half
35:18 two years
35:19 but it almost seems like yesterday
35:22 but it wasn't yesterday it was a couple
35:24 of years ago
35:25 maybe a year and a half ago see i'm
35:27 having a trouble
35:29 with the concept of time you have no
35:31 concept of time
35:34 this is meteor city road i'm
35:36 i'm just kind of rambling now this is
35:38 meteor
35:39 city road that runs parallel to the 40
35:44 back in the day
35:45 long time ago they used to have what was
35:48 stated according to them
35:50 this gift shop
35:51 called meteor city trading post
35:54 they used to have what they stated to be
35:57 the largest map
35:59 of route 66
36:01 on a wooden fence that went around the
36:03 property you can see the wooden fence is
36:05 gone now
36:07 it is just a
36:08 chain link fence
36:11 that has fallen over
36:17 last time i was through here was snow
36:17 all over the ground
36:19 it was not the
36:21 trip i did across i-10 from california
36:23 back to florida
36:25 last year
36:27 well i guess that would have been
36:28 this year but winter of this year
36:30 earlier
36:31 just after new year's
36:34 a different trip but still a lot of snow
36:36 on the ground the last time i went
36:37 through here
36:39 i-40 is a lot farther north than i-10
36:43 but sometimes even i-10 gets a lot of
36:44 snow but i-40 gets really cold
37:00 says kick it
37:00 on 66.
37:09 help us restore
37:09 what that sign says
37:15 now according to the owner of the
37:15 property
37:17 who has
37:19 sealed this whole area up so you can't
37:22 wander around
37:26 it's going to be called earl's
37:28 oh no it's not called earls
37:30 says over over there
37:33 that you can
37:35 sleep on a corner at earl's
37:38 in winslow
37:40 just like the song says
37:42 says pardon the dust while we're
37:44 remodeling
37:46 meanwhile
37:47 visit the jackrabbit trading post i
37:49 think i will do that i'm going to visit
37:51 the jackrack jackrabbit
37:53 trading post
37:55 i'll do that
37:57 this is this
37:59 piece of wood with the painting on it
38:00 has been here for about two
38:02 years oh we are look at that it's not
38:06 we're remodeling it says we are
38:08 and the r is in quotations why is the r
38:11 in quotations
38:13 i don't know
38:24 but i am going to abide
38:24 okay i got distracted i was going to say
38:26 i'm going to abide by what they stated
38:28 on that would that piece of wood with
38:30 the paint but i got distracted to the
38:32 jackrabbit trading post momentarily
38:34 down the way
38:36 but look at this there's a train over
38:38 there another train
39:15 yeah i'm liking these long drawn out
39:15 takes
39:16 just to just to give the feel the
39:19 ambiance
39:20 the reason i'm driving down this dirt
39:22 road
39:23 the pavement turns into a dirt road
39:26 is because i want to show the old
39:28 signage up here
39:30 that used to promote
39:33 the store
39:35 i caught it from the interstate and
39:37 wanted to get a better view of it from
39:39 the dirt area here
39:43 there it is
39:50 look at that
39:50 little relics of the past
39:59 okay moving on the next spot
40:00 and after about a 30-minute commute 30
40:02 miles
40:04 from meteor city road
40:07 i have now arrived
40:09 at an iconic spot now when you think of
40:12 disney california adventure if you've
40:13 been to dca in cars land you will notice
40:18 but the reproduction there is based on a
40:20 real
40:22 spot and i'm always happy when i'm able
40:26 to
40:27 go by here and where is here
40:32 okay that that didn't work here it is it
40:34 is here or here
40:37 it is
40:38 which always gets me thinking about you
40:39 know theme park especially disney thing
40:41 i love about it is the fact that it is
40:44 based on real places americana main
40:47 street usa small town life things like
40:49 that
40:50 but
40:51 90 of what is in there is a reproduction
40:55 really exists
41:09 why not
41:09 go out
41:11 and witness it
41:18 across america
41:18 like i said i love theme parks
41:21 but i also love the real deal
41:24 getting out in it get it out of the
41:26 nitty-gritty the nooks
41:28 the crannies
41:43 that worked out well
41:43 the train i showed back at meteor city
41:47 road trading post
41:48 was going from this direction it's going
41:50 westbound that train you just saw was
41:52 eastbound i passed the train
41:55 going down i-40
41:58 thinking i would see it going this way
42:00 but it worked out well caught it the
42:01 other way it's just a little store a
42:03 little roadside store
42:05 sells t-shirts and magnets
42:09 things like that
42:14 there's the rabbit
42:14 and here are some
42:17 classic car
42:18 classic cars
42:20 alert
42:21 here it is here's the classic car alert
42:25 as shown
42:27 right there on the license plate that
42:28 they also sell
42:30 inside and there's some ears
42:33 top of this one and a couple other
42:36 over in the distance over there you can
42:37 kind of see them you see all the trucks
42:39 going by on the freeway
42:50 there's been times during winter time
42:50 that they will close off the interstate
42:52 and you can't go any farther
42:55 than this point
42:57 i was told that story when i went in
42:58 here once
42:59 and the owner said
43:01 yeah interstate's closed down too much
43:03 snow
43:04 it snows a lot and gets very icy in this
43:07 area i was just talking to the current
43:08 owner
43:10 and he was saying so this logo is the
43:11 one you see on the shirts this style
43:14 rabbit
43:15 with the angle there was kind of down on
43:18 the hindquarters are down and the
43:20 two front legs
43:21 so that's different than the the photo
43:24 op you can get it right over here he
43:26 said this is the third
43:28 bunny that has been here
43:31 and someone was passing through and they
43:32 were
43:33 according to him
43:34 they were creating or taking
43:36 some items to a theme park in california
43:38 non-disney related another theme park
43:40 they made fiberglass or at least
43:43 these type of structures characters and
43:45 he said do you have a bunny they said we
43:47 do have a bunny so this is this is where
43:49 this bunny came from
43:50 the third
43:52 incarnation if you will of the bunnies
43:54 here in front of
43:56 the trading post
43:58 i was also asking if they get any sort
44:01 of percentage or a cut
44:04 from the utilization of the here it is
44:06 sign that disney uses at disneyland
44:10 california adventure
44:11 second theme park at disneyland
44:13 because they have one very similar to
44:16 he stated that john lasseter
44:19 came through here he talked to lasseter
44:21 years ago
44:22 went in and talked to him
44:24 and the deal they came up with is
44:27 if they want to make a sign like this in
44:29 the park they did not get any kind of
44:31 cut for that or any monetary gain
44:35 but any merchandise
44:36 anyone uses
44:38 that is similar to this this is
44:41 copy written however
44:43 the sign according to the owner
44:48 they did not get a percentage
44:50 so when you go if you ever go to cars
44:52 land radiator springs area a dca
44:55 that sign
44:57 that looks like this based on this
45:00 they just let them have that image for
45:02 free very interesting but merchandise
45:07 they get a cut there will be a legal
45:08 issue
45:09 fun fact i also asked if he had coffee
45:13 so get myself a piping hot caffeinated
45:15 beverage and he said he does not sell
45:17 coffee
45:18 because not enough demand not enough
45:21 none of the turnover rate
45:24 with people stopping in to have a
45:25 freshly brewed
45:27 cup of coffee now this is the
45:30 jackrabbit camper ground
45:33 or former
45:34 campground we're going to get another
45:35 train coming by
45:38 and there's a swing set up here
45:41 that is just kind of sitting here
45:42 rotting away
46:19 a lot of equipment and vehicles on that
46:19 one
46:20 another access road
46:23 fork courage
46:25 well the former
46:27 fort courage
46:28 straight ahead here
46:30 and it seems like every time i revisit
46:33 this place
46:34 it is more dilapidated more downtrodden
46:37 and more destroyed
46:40 than it was before
46:42 it's been empty and closed off for years
46:46 and i believe they had a fire recently
47:00 there was a time many years ago
47:00 that part of it was still open so i was
47:02 lucky enough
47:04 to visit it back when part of the gift
47:06 shop
47:07 was still open the pancake house
47:10 at that time guys was probably
47:13 seven eight years ago maybe even
47:16 maybe even more than that
47:18 when the gift shop was open
47:20 the gift shop was right over here
47:28 it was the only thing that was open
47:28 right there fort courage
47:39 i wonder where the fire was
47:39 i saw a news article there was a fire
47:41 that burned part of this down
47:43 i'm gonna get out i'm gonna stop and get
47:45 out and see what i can find
47:48 oh yeah
47:50 i see the oh yeah i see where the fire
47:51 was back there
47:54 now this roadside attraction well used
47:56 to be roadside attraction
47:58 fort courage based on
48:00 tv show from the 60s called f troop
48:11 you can see over here this is where the
48:11 fire
48:13 took place
48:34 this whole section has been
48:34 pretty much closed down for a long time
48:37 except for that gift shop i mentioned
48:39 you know from half a decade ago
48:42 or longer
48:44 which closed shortly after
48:46 that it's just been sitting empty
48:58 got to watch where i step there is
48:58 it's like maybe a horse or cows have
49:00 been out here grazing and have left some
49:03 remnants
49:05 from their digestive tract
49:08 you know what i mean
49:14 so i'm having to kind of trod around
49:32 oh even though
49:32 definitely not something you want to
49:33 walk across
49:36 falling in all caved in
50:58 oh man there's dark in there
50:58 very dark in there
51:16 i'm good
52:22 hello
52:22 is there anyone hiding there in the dark
53:55 looks to be the only remnant
53:55 of the name still here on this water
53:57 tower
53:58 water tank
54:09 can be seen from the road as you drive
54:09 by
54:17 nothing more than a moderate shell of
54:17 what it once was
54:18 this roadside attraction
54:21 like many along this interstate okay i
54:24 stand corrected there's another sign
54:26 that has the name on it
54:38 next to the closed gas station
54:38 i'm also noticing
54:40 right down here this has reserved
54:43 for the mailbus
54:45 which i would imagine means the post
54:48 office
54:49 employee
54:50 and the mail car but it faintly says
54:54 reserved for the mailbox
54:57 and up here as well
55:00 also states the name so it says there's
55:02 three different signs that have the name
55:06 that would be a good relic
55:08 to have
55:10 others
55:11 seem to have taken
55:13 some of the former stuff that used to be
55:15 along the side
55:17 of the walls here where it says
55:20 curio's gifts and groceries
55:22 along the side of that wall there
55:25 used to be some some wooden
55:28 figures
55:29 they've been removed you can still see
55:31 where those used to
55:33 be mounted and
55:34 nailed up to the wall there
55:38 just touring the fence down
55:45 right there you can see the silhouette
55:53 someone has taken it off of the side
55:54 you can still see the outline
55:57 from years of the sun
55:59 bleaching the
56:01 the outskirts of this
56:03 this figure
56:30 about a mile or two behind the distance
56:30 of where i'm walking
56:32 is the state line of new mexico
56:38 where
56:38 this place is kind of
56:40 falling on some hard times that says
56:42 hard right there
56:44 so new mexico is right over that way
56:47 see all the trucks going by
56:50 it's very interesting that this also
56:52 burned down last time i was through here
56:55 you know a year or two
56:56 ago there was a gift shop a rather large
57:00 gift shop here
57:02 as well similar
57:04 in style
57:05 to the one
57:07 a while back
57:08 over at meteor crater road
57:12 the same kind of dimensions
57:14 as that
57:16 almost almost exactly the same probably
57:18 the same architect
57:20 built that one
57:21 you know a few hours back a couple hours
57:22 back
57:24 built this one this one is now been
57:26 burned down to a crisp
57:42 fact
57:44 you see the signage right there that
57:45 says museum
57:47 and all that gallery gift shop
57:51 goodness
57:56 i know that
57:56 charcoaled remains and the smell of burn
58:00 will last a long time but it is still
58:02 smells pretty fresh
58:04 like it definitely smells like a
58:07 campfire
58:13 and i went in here before i
58:13 did go in here when it was open and when
58:15 it was abandoned
58:17 over a series of different years
58:29 there you go a little update
58:29 a little update
58:31 an unexpected update
58:34 state line right over there
58:36 new mexico i will be going to
58:38 albuquerque tonight i'm not going to
58:39 film anything in new mexico i'm going to
58:41 try to make up some time i have some
58:43 family
58:44 in new mexico
58:46 just for the time being
58:48 it just kind of coincidentally
58:50 works out
58:52 that they are in albuquerque the same
58:54 time i'm going to be around albuquerque
58:56 so we're going to
58:58 link up
59:01 so i'll spend a couple
59:02 days in albuquerque like bugs bunny says
59:05 i don't want to take a wrong
59:07 wrong turn i want to take a left turn
59:09 in albuquerque
59:12 so i'm going to be there
59:15 next couple days
59:17 and that's gonna do it for today
59:21 have you seen a more trash filled
59:25 former gas station before than this
59:28 i never have
59:30 that is a sight to behold
59:33 it is a wasteland of garbage
59:38 this garage
59:40 is no longer being utilized
59:43 to fix up cars right here arizona
59:48 new mexico
59:51 new mexico is right there i mean i could
59:53 probably walk over the state line to be
59:55 very dangerous
1:00:00 what was that noise something moved in
1:00:01 i'll see you in the next video
1:00:04 thanks for watching
1:00:06 the vlog
