0:05 April
0:06 16th 20124 standing here on this street
0:10 here in debuk Iowa right on the state
0:14 line tri state area they call it you got
0:17 Iowa just across the Mississippi River
0:20 is Illinois and Wisconsin all within a
0:23 couple of
0:24 Miles done Illinois and Iowa the last
0:27 couple days today going to cross cross
0:30 over into Wisconsin a state I am not
0:32 super familiar with going check out some
0:35 small towns some unusual things some
0:37 back roads and just see what the day has
0:40 to bestow upon
0:43 myself and you for joining
0:47 me I'm inviting you shall
0:51 you kind of mixed up the intro there now
0:54 there's supposed to be some inclement
0:56 weather rolling in a little bit later
0:59 see how that pans out some storm some
1:03 wind rain possible other
1:07 things you can see right there very
1:24 windier believe that's the Iowa flag up
1:24 there but I'm only going to be in Iowa a
1:26 couple more minutes before crossing over
1:28 a bridge into whis Wisconsin Wisconsin
1:32 Wisconsin it's a coner I also really
1:35 like this clock tower right here in the
1:38 middle keep pointing that
1:42 out pretty neat it's right there in the
1:44 middle of the road you just circle
1:45 around
1:57 it okay this is really random right here
1:57 off the side I'm now officially in
1:58 Wisconsin
2:08 a lot of times you'll see cows on the
2:08 side of the road I love some
2:11 cows I also
2:13 love UFO
2:15 stories unidentified flying objects
2:19 right here along this fence line is a
2:23 UFO that has a cow inside I don't know
2:27 if the cow is the alien or
2:30 the aliens have sucked up the cow into
2:32 their
2:51 decide also
2:51 appears like some sort of a laser down
2:54 there
3:21 field oh dang even down a little farther
3:21 this might even be the same
3:23 property farmer hauling some cattle
3:26 there back of that
3:28 truck this is probably probably about a
3:30 half a mile from where I just was it
3:31 might even be the same property if not
3:35 the same creator of UFOs
3:44 dinosaurs and prehistoric metal
3:44 creatures the wind is kicking out here
4:09 okay that's a legit alien in there no
4:11 cow in that one and it looks like this
4:14 dinosaur is looking at its
4:22 eggs love it all right pulling into the
4:22 community of Hazel Green right now
4:26 population
4:27 1,100 residents there's the water tower
4:31 nice small little downtown about a block
4:34 or two a couple
4:50 Burger a restaurant
4:50 yeah antique store here too
5:07 oh look at this place has a bunch of old
5:07 signage antique shop or
5:10 something not even a traffic light just
5:12 a four-way stop right here yeah they got
5:15 all kind of stuff True Vine Antiques and
5:17 fines here on Main
5:20 Street got old Pepsi machine out
5:23 front like this could have been a a
5:26 motel at one time converted into a store
5:29 maybe it was a
5:55 true
5:55 light traffic lights traffic lights
6:05 some people want traffic lights so they
6:05 buy traffic lights from an antique store
6:07 I
6:12 guess Le you got a lot of people in your
6:12 house you need direct traffic storm
6:15 shelter tornadoes they go underneath the
6:17 ground there to get out of weather to be
6:23 protected when the storm cuz the
6:24 tornadoes are really bad in this area
6:38 coach that's
6:38 cool old water
6:50 pups a colonial looking
6:50 building I guess that's would be what
6:52 the architecture would be called
7:01 yeah you definitely see some storm
7:01 clouds starting to formulate over there
7:03 dark clouds rolling in this is the Opera
7:06 House the Hazel Green opera house
7:07 located on the 21st in
7:10 Maine and this van right here in front
7:12 has a sticker on the back that says
7:14 Puppeteer so do puppet shows in the
7:17 opera
7:34 fever River puppeteers I guess the river
7:34 that runs by here is fever
7:36 river that street that where we turn
7:38 around in is where you go down to the
7:40 river
7:41 probably this is the library police
7:44 department and the Village Hall all in
7:53 one all right now this is awesome there
7:53 this old service station right here it
7:56 has an open sign it's called Simmons
7:59 Auto
8:00 Center tractor going
8:09 by water tower off in the
8:22 distance yeah this is really
8:22 cool even down here you drive over this
8:25 and that is what alerts
8:27 you or alerts the people inside that you
8:30 need to fuel
8:32 up back when it was the full service
8:35 days most
8:37 likely I do like the add the addition of
8:39 the the flags up top and classic car
8:44 alert over
8:46 here it's old
8:55 Ford my mom's with me obviously she's in
8:55 the car right now doesn't want to get
8:57 out in the wind but we'll probably
9:00 see some things she going to pop out of
9:02 the car but want of just driving around
9:04 again it's very Gusty
9:20 here old Coca-Cola sign a think of
9:20 beauty s up
9:35 doesn't get much cooler than this
9:35 honestly love and it's an active place
9:38 there is a mechanic on duty fixing a
9:40 Local's
9:41 truck still open just a little nods to
9:44 the
9:45 Past
9:53 ni yeah that's what that's what drew me
9:53 in is all the old signage oh
10:00 okay I usually have a whole bunch of
10:00 stuff out for for display but weather's
10:03 just finally starting to change so we
10:05 can start doing
10:11 that the old 40 came out of storage
10:11 there last
10:13 week yeah this is
10:16 cool a registered restroom I've never
10:19 even heard you had to have them
10:20 registered huh yep back in the day wow
10:24 did you uh where in Florida you from
10:27 near Orlando near kind of near Disney
10:29 World Orlando Central Florida oh okay I
10:32 have a sister loes in K Coral okay yeah
10:34 that's like South Florida y That's where
10:37 south of where I'm at oh wow look at
10:43 that that's some of my displays that I
10:43 put out the two cars were uh they came
10:47 in just for a photo shoot
11:01 that's neat you have all this stuff in
11:01 here not just not just the outside looks
11:04 awesome but you also have the inside
11:05 with all this stuff yeah there's a lot
11:08 of lot of memories in the old building
11:12 lot of memories some good some
11:24 bad still got her soaking yeah yeah work
11:24 snow plows today
11:32 I'm a supervisor all right talked to the
11:32 owner said he's owned this place for
11:34 over 25 years He restored this this was
11:37 his grandparents car that they got
11:39 married
11:48 in very very kind
11:48 guy all right moving on see how the
11:51 coffee is in here convenient store just
11:54 up o that is look at that look at that
11:56 that is definitely piping hot
12:00 very very nice very nice okay the people
12:02 in this town are very very very friendly
12:05 got my coffee here so the lady behind
12:08 the counter here was saying you want to
12:09 see an old train
12:11 tunnel said yes I do so she told me how
12:14 to get to it so I'm going to go that
12:15 direction and find the old train tunnel
12:18 she told me a whole story about a train
12:19 tunnel well at least where it was not
12:21 the backstory we're down a kind of a
12:24 road that really there's nothing out
12:26 here there's a couple houses no traffic
12:28 there's an old windmill right here seen
12:31 better days rusted
12:33 out I don't exactly know where I'm going
12:36 I'm just going off of the direction she
12:38 said to head down this road so either
12:41 going to find a train tunnel or this is
12:44 how horror films
12:59 start see him mhm de
12:59 they go up the hill they're really blend
13:01 in with a
13:03 color see
13:05 them there two of
13:13 them where are they over there you in
13:13 front of the tree you got to back back
13:14 some oh I see it see them back back back
13:17 up actually I see behind the
13:20 trees they're up there in the woods oh
13:23 there there's another one over there
13:25 there's three of
13:27 them yeah they blend in with
13:29 it's hard to see
13:31 them they must like heels that's that
13:35 behind face house that big old Hill and
13:38 you find them up there all the
13:46 time used to be a business or a house
13:46 here now
13:47 just just sitting here with trees
13:49 growing around
14:02 and a little satellite dish two dogs
14:02 down there oh they're all down in y too
14:06 there's lots of them lots of goats oh
14:08 yeah the two dogs there's more goats
14:11 down there in that
14:13 shelter see them yeah all kinds of
14:23 them hello
14:23 goats all right we never found the train
14:26 trestle or the train tunnel that's okay
14:28 though saw some
14:30 goats and mosied up the road a bit to
14:34 entrance to Cuba
14:43 City see what we can find here got the
14:43 water tower off in the distance there
14:47 over the top of the tin
14:49 Lantern Motel affordable clean and quiet
14:54 the old neon sign right here on the
14:56 corner of Washington and East McKinley
14:58 Street
15:07 yeah that's great the water tower
15:07 protruding up over
15:11 greetings Cuba City the city of
15:13 presidents they call it even though
15:15 there is only a population of 2,000 it's
15:17 still a city cities don't necessarily
15:20 have to have skyscrapers
15:32 classic Thompson's
15:35 IGA you know what the IG stands for I
15:37 think you told me once I can't remember
15:39 it's been a long time ago you did
15:41 probably
15:42 did even
15:44 International grocer Association or
15:47 grocery Association if I remember right
15:49 now it's interesting on the light poles
15:51 they have each and every US president
15:55 accounted for including John Tyler
16:07 polls stretching down the Main
16:07 Street city of
16:16 presidents here's the presidential
16:16 Courtyard and the US Presidential Museum
16:19 is trying to raise some money they have
16:21 the thermostat elevating right
16:26 there Cuba City State Bank
16:35 the Whistle
16:35 Post Wayside railroad signs are once a
16:37 common side along railroad tracks the
16:40 whistle posts are usually 1/4 Mile in
16:43 advance of a road
16:53 it the Seal of the city of presidents
16:56 Cuba City Wisconsin
16:58 Incorporated
17:06 1875 I can't tell if it's a road or a
17:06 parking lot or what it is it's paved I
17:09 mean it's painted over with the blue
17:10 like
17:29 ocean traffic signal oh push the red
17:29 button on the side of the post and see
17:32 the lights
17:52 flashing speeder car with
17:52 tools work car speeder car as they're
17:55 called handle sections to patrol and
17:57 repair the tracks
18:04 and he has the tools of the railroad
18:05 down in
18:06 here oh they have an itemized list
18:10 numbered crowbar Spike driver railroad
18:13 pick aligning tool Welding Tool a tie
18:15 Tong Spike pool a rail carrier a tie
18:18 Tong a switch bolt rail spikes and a
18:22 rail
18:26 lifter this almost looks like a
18:26 skateboard like a longboard
18:34 there's a milk
18:34 cart and traffic
18:38 signal right
18:40 there oh the city of President salutes
18:43 Frontline workers okay they must have
18:45 painted this 2020 looks older than
18:49 2020 oh here's a presidential hopscotch
19:03 Washington's Adams Jefferson James
19:03 Madison
19:05 Monroe John Adams Jackson Martin vanb
19:09 and Harrison
19:11 Tyler don't even
19:20 think about Rob in any of these
19:20 places here in the city of
19:28 presidents this cute little dowt don't
19:28 even
19:30 considerate
19:45 state-of-the-art burglar alarm at the
19:45 corner bar right there pizza Burgers
19:56 beer Zachary Taylor this building here
19:56 is date stamp 1907 on the roof love a
19:59 good date
20:00 stamp a good placard and a good date
20:02 stamp could teach you a lot about when
20:05 something and when and why something was
20:29 created this is cute this insurance
20:29 company puts out little doggy treats for
20:31 people walking their
20:38 dogs barber pole
20:38 there and a nice little relic of the
20:42 past michelo beer sign brewed since
20:52 1896 they have the end painted over on
20:52 this side but not painted
20:55 over on that side that must be the name
20:57 of the establish M right here this bar
21:02 lot of antique stores I'm just now
21:05 realizing this was the old train
21:15 depot used now as Grandma's addicts
21:15 Antiques and I didn't realize at first
21:19 also that
21:21 Abraham
21:36 form hey how you doing all right here's
21:36 a little info about the presidential
21:39 Shields just talked to a local resident
21:42 that pulled up and said hi he was saying
21:45 not a whole lot of presidential stuff
21:46 other than the Shields and the little
21:48 Courtyard here that I've in but yeah
21:51 city of presidents
22:03 got a lot of dairy farms in this area
22:03 see a cow over there doing a little
22:04 grazing outside the fit
22:33 this is
22:33 the diesel or ditel Ridge Acres
23:06 this is very interesting I've never
23:06 seen Cales cattle on the side of the
23:09 road like almost like in little dog
23:12 houses look at them they're just in
23:14 there right on the side of the
23:32 you ever see anything like that uh-uh n
23:32 what's what's on in those down there
23:35 those are calves down there too is that
23:41 other look at they're just like in
23:41 little
23:42 houses look at them they're so
24:01 and they all look different
24:01 too all right now pulling into
24:04 dickyville population
24:07 1, 15
24:17 people they also have a water
24:27 tower all right this is their little
24:27 Main Street right through
24:37 here if you want to find something
24:37 interesting in a small town follow the
24:41 wooden dinosaur car wooden carved out
24:44 dinosaurs they have led us here on Main
24:48 Street and Orchard Street on this
24:57 corner at the Holy Ghost park next to
24:58 this church
24:59 is the
25:17 back right here next to the Holy Ghost
25:17 Church at Holy Ghost Park is the grotto
25:34 have you ever seen a grotto before no
25:34 never
25:42 have was asking me as I was driving over
25:42 to show her this what exactly it was I
25:46 said you just got to see it CU it's kind
25:47 of hard to explain spay out of rock and
25:49 tile
25:51 and other
25:57 things next to the church they have the
25:57 same items that make up the
25:58 Grotto but they have it here along this
26:01 railing
26:14 also it looks like sometimes you can go
26:14 inside but you can't go inside at the
26:16 the moment
26:46 carvings in the side there
26:46 wisdom
26:49 understanding look like a piece of
26:50 petrified
26:52 wood a big clamshell
27:04 each of these little sculptures has the
27:04 name of the saint it is four this is St
27:14 James St
27:14 Matthew believe the coins
27:22 there oh that's neat has like a tree
27:25 going up and then it goes into the tile
27:27 work or The Rock work to form make the
27:30 tree there's the steeple
27:32 there there's the Nativity down
28:04 been to a few Grotto in my day this is
28:04 not the largest and not the smallest
28:06 that I've been to but they're all very
28:09 impressive in their own way a lot of a
28:12 lot of time and effort creativity goes
28:15 into these
28:22 F oh it stretches over that way too down
28:23 hill
28:26 yeah this is just the main section of I
28:28 thought it was just this one
28:31 part it's like a little path like a a
28:34 maze
28:47 area got the Cherub down
28:47 there there some sculptures of lambs and
28:55 geese got the dickyville water tower off
28:55 of the distance and another section of
28:58 grot
28:59 here is that supposed to be Mary
29:02 Magdalene this is really impressive this
29:05 section right through here with the
29:07 archway and the
29:09 fountain it's a little too chilly having
29:13 water in the
29:15 fountain this is nice got the eagle up
29:29 oh
29:29 I entire truck of GE sh so
29:33 that's use
29:46 the yeah I mean I give tours all the
29:46 time do things depending on who's
29:48 looking what time of day
31:47 some of these date back to
31:47 1911 early
31:59 that were
32:15 wallet all right so the church was built
32:15 in 1913 then they built the School The
32:18 Grotto started being built in 1918
32:32 and one of the workers is going to let
32:32 us go inside the
32:42 gr we' been under a restoration and they
32:42 were just
32:43 installed oh new
32:46 gates so um are you guys familiar
32:50 with okay no that's all right I just
32:53 need to
32:55 know so we've got um patriotism on one
32:59 side and religion on the other so you
33:01 have to set yourself here in history
33:03 you're between World War I and World War
33:05 II and these are German imrs so they
33:14 are um over the door you see a Maria
33:17 which is Latin for Hail Mary on either
33:20 side of the arch 1925 1929 that's what
33:26 Tor yeah so make sure when you come in
33:28 you look up and then feel free to go
33:30 towards the Altar and then turn back cuz
33:32 there's
33:33 more tode
33:42 you so the statue of Mary holding baby
33:42 Jesus is lifesize Italian carara
33:46 mvel um she was donated and is the
33:50 reason why father Runner wanted to build
33:51 a place for the Statue as well so you
33:54 built it around that yeah with her in
33:57 mind to make a place place for the
33:58 Statue so a grot is an artificial cave
34:01 that's why you you know you walk into
34:03 this
34:04 space and again you can kind of smell
34:07 the minerals and rock and cement that
34:09 you're in every square inch is covered
34:13 we're unique in the fact that father
34:14 wner is not only has natural materials
34:17 like rocks and stones but he
34:19 incorporates brightly colored
34:21 glass which came from C Indiana
34:25 Oh that's where my sister's from yeah so
34:28 if you're seeing the brightly color
34:29 glass like the blue behind the Mary
34:31 that's all cable glass wow and then um
34:35 trying to think what else did I point
34:37 out gear shift knobs I've been talking
34:38 to a lot of people no no gear shift
34:40 knobs okay so if you
34:43 look they're they're on the front of the
34:45 main gr easier but if you look around
34:48 like these little windows and they look
34:50 like perfectly round brownish I see them
34:53 yeah okay those are the gear ship Maps
34:56 Henry Ford sent over an entire truckload
34:58 of them I can show you on the front of
35:00 this you're going to find them
35:02 throughout the site um other things you
35:05 might be familiar with uh in the New
35:07 Testament the story of the
35:08 multiplication of Loaves and Fishes so
35:10 we have two seashell fishes and a basket
35:13 of bread oh yeah see the fish M and the
35:16 CL yeah that's one of my favorite Parts
35:19 in here yeah
36:04 and we got the orgon up there on the
36:04 balcony all right in the gift shop now
36:06 there's the builder of the grotto there
36:09 and there's like some paraphernalia from
36:11 over the years that they have in here
36:13 they also have some some things for
36:17 sale as
36:20 well even so we have little miniature
36:23 versions of the gr that you can buy over
36:25 here in the gift shop
36:28 overlooking the backside of The Grotto
36:30 itself she said they brought him in by
36:33 railroad card just full of all this
36:36 stuff to do all
36:44 this all right we carried on a little
36:44 bit over to
37:19 up there's the post office 5 3812 is a
37:19 zip
37:26 code you see the flags there wav to the
37:26 Bree go
37:29 by this is the Auto Mall we're passing
37:31 the Auto
37:34 Mall forklift there retro looking
37:51 silos this place has the best homemade
37:51 pizza in downtown Kyler that's what it
37:54 says on the side gues Greenhouse Kyler
38:01 Wisconsin the best homemade pizza in
38:05 town I don't know if they have any
38:07 competition
38:09 but have a paint store here too The
38:12 Village
38:13 bar Fine Food and generous cocktails
38:18 they closed down well they're closed
38:20 yeah maybe Clos down proba Night Time
38:23 stuff also we were noticing there's a
38:24 lot like a lot of the diners restaurants
38:28 are called supper clubs you don't see in
38:30 other areas but I guess around this part
38:32 of the the country they're called supper
38:40 clubs instead of dining or a restaurant
38:40 you just go to a supper club and get all
38:42 dressed up and go out to supper and
38:44 speaking of supper AKA dinner going to
38:48 get some groceries back over now and
38:50 debuk spend some time with my
38:55 mom my sister her husband a little later
38:59 rest of the eve whole family time get
39:03 some groceries from hi ve this Lane is
39:05 only for RX I guess that's we you go
