0:03 today's adventure begins from my hotel
0:03 room in Kansas City Missouri
0:06 as the recording of us it is Friday
0:08 July 14 2023
0:11 and The View
0:13 from this window shows
0:17 the Kansas City Royals Stadium
0:20 off in the distance
0:22 Windows a little dirty let me go over
0:25 this way just a little bit
0:27 walking distance from my hotel I am
0:30 knocking off my 15th stadium that I have
0:33 been to while rooting for the Tampa Bay
0:36 Rays
0:37 I'm gonna knock them all out I'm halfway
0:40 to accomplishing all of them now
0:42 tonight's game hopefully will not get
0:44 rained out there's going to be some
0:45 storms rolling in
0:47 you always get some kind of severe bad
0:49 weather in this neck of the woods this
0:51 time of the year
0:52 so curious to see if there's going to be
0:54 a rain delay I hope not
1:00 George Brett Bridge
1:00 you think of the Royals
1:08 Kansas City's Hometown hero
1:08 dedicated this on April 7th of 97 and
1:11 look
1:13 has a signature there I'm not sure if
1:16 that really was how his signature look
1:18 look at his last name
1:24 looks like it spells something else
1:24 I know a lot of people including myself
1:25 think of George Brett when you think of
1:27 the Royals
1:28 but I think of Bo Jackson
1:31 former royal stadium now called Kaufman
1:34 Stadium welcome everyone Adam the woo
1:37 here very sunny a little warm not as
1:39 humid as Florida but definitely hot
1:43 I also did not realize till now that the
1:46 Kansas City chief stadium is right next
1:49 to Kaufman the former
1:51 royal stadium where I saw Bo Jackson I
1:55 that was my favorite player Bo Jackson
1:57 won the Heisman trophy for the Auburn
1:59 Tigers the brief time frame when I was
2:02 very young that I was in the football
2:03 college football was in the panhandle of
2:04 Florida a couple of my friends were
2:06 really into Auburn so you gotta check
2:07 this guy Bo out
2:09 and I just really I followed his career
2:11 earlier getting into playing for the
2:14 Royals playing for the Raiders football
2:17 and just love Bo Jackson I used to have
2:20 the poster on my wall as a as a young
2:23 lad and right inside of there obviously
2:26 you know many many other players too but
2:28 it definitely floods into my head
2:31 Bo knows
2:35 if he I always wonder if Bo Jackson
2:35 would not have gotten injured and tried
2:37 to play two sports what kind of
2:39 Superstar he was already a superstar but
2:40 what he what kind of level he would have
2:42 gone to if he had not gotten permanently
2:45 injured
2:46 I'm heading in I'm inviting you to join
2:48 me for a stadium tour and
2:51 a baseball game
2:53 doesn't look like there's going to be
2:54 any rain yet
2:56 but
2:58 the weatherman I was watching the news
2:59 last night in my hotel room and also
3:01 looking at the app says there might be a
3:03 storm coming in join me shall you
3:05 Jackson County Sports Complex
3:08 Authority
3:15 so that's what the two stadiums make up
3:15 pretty express bus that's probably a
3:18 good time on that thing oh my goodness
3:21 they have a bow shirt oh look at this
3:24 look at this they got all kind of boat
3:27 Jacks and stuff no both of these teams
3:29 are in the American League Of Course
3:30 Tampa Bay is on the American League east
3:32 and they are at the top they're two
3:33 games over Baltimore Kansas City is at
3:36 the bottom of the Central right now okay
3:38 I did an early check-in and as part for
3:40 the course of most Stadium tours I've
3:41 done they give you a little pin as well
3:43 as the tourism experience is Kaufman
3:46 state in Kansas City Missouri lanyard
3:47 here and then across the back it has the
3:50 date on it right there got my
3:53 credentials I can almost have like a
3:54 Wayne's World moment
3:58 also kind of looks like a spaceship back
4:01 there from this angle not inside but
4:03 from from the exterior has a nice breeze
4:06 out today too
4:08 it's nice
4:18 pulling up the weather it's 89 right now
4:18 it's going to get to 9301 and that's
4:21 when the precipitation percentage goes
4:24 starts to kind of go up and then look
4:26 tonight okay they're going to start off
4:28 in the diamond tour or the Diamond Club
4:31 I'm not sitting in this section but it
4:34 also there was no we couldn't purchase
4:35 any water in the gift shop they had uh
4:37 they had merchandise for sale but
4:39 there's no beverages so the guide was
4:41 nice enough to get me
4:42 a bottle of water that's the visitors
4:46 Clubhouse so these stadiums they open on
4:48 72 we opened them 73. this is opening
4:52 night 1973.
5:00 73. coming into the Press Box
5:00 that's great
5:06 um he's now part of our broadcasting
5:06 team
5:07 so if you listen to Royals game
5:11 we hosted the All-Star Game back then
5:13 this is interesting this was the stadium
5:15 before 73 this is seven this is when the
5:18 stadium was built before the renovations
5:20 but this was the stadium for the Royals
5:23 before 73 and the guy was saying that
5:26 the Beatles played here it's the only
5:27 time the Beatles ever played in Kansas
5:28 City that played in the old stadium
5:30 right there on that field so their
5:32 mascot has some of the stuff he's going
5:34 to be riding around later like the dirt
5:37 bike the Razor scooter
5:39 a little four-wheeler
5:42 could we see on the field later when the
5:44 mascot's on there
5:46 and a random shovel
5:55 flag the mascot they're at the winning
5:55 flag
5:57 s
6:03 or ball girl on the third base side and
6:03 they've got a
6:05 a little stool here usually they're
6:07 glove and their their helmet is there
6:09 our fires are right here
6:47 all the baseballs are kept inside that
6:47 closet and so that used to be sure so we
6:52 have one Jewel in one Clubhouse
7:01 it's a baseball humidor all the
7:01 baseballs are in there I didn't know
7:03 that every player's number is up there
7:04 where a player guys
7:12 usually it's like very uniform but yeah
7:12 but this is their where they keep the
7:15 bats so a lot of dugouts have both the
7:18 helmets and the bats up in the Dugout or
7:20 the dents in the door from like being
7:22 angry and hitting it yeah so both the
7:24 home and the visiting side the dents on
7:26 the door are are I haven't witnessed it
7:28 but I think there are players who are
7:30 frustrated after a strikeout or go out
7:32 on the field but if you want to take
7:34 pictures take all the photos
7:39 all right cool I'm going in another
7:39 Dugout hopefully yeah let's just let
7:41 this other tour group they're leaving
7:42 let's let them Buy
7:49 yes oh just do it straight I know but
7:49 I'm doing everything
8:01 that's interesting beginning great times
8:01 and other times for television and also
8:03 the renewable play types and
8:04 non-renewable play types
8:11 what I'm one of the players right here I
8:11 just never had the talent or the
8:12 initiative or the drive or the work
8:14 ethic to make it happen but this is
8:16 where the MLB players for the Royals
8:19 play the Rays and all the opposing teams
8:21 of visitor teams
8:23 right over there we were not able to go
8:25 in their dugout
8:27 they didn't have that 73
8:30 composite wood here and air conditioning
8:35 oh that's AC
8:37 that was in the 90s
8:45 we have the second we have the largest
8:45 Battlefield in the American League
8:46 second to Colorado
9:18 this is their barber shop
9:18 take a look at this you even have the
9:19 barber pools up the barber chair over
9:22 there too
9:35 it's all right oh there's like
9:35 autographs
9:37 yeah I said I said watch your stuff
9:39 there's a camera on the floor
9:41 yeah
9:41 I got this uh yeah
10:03 what's the quarterback before Patrick
10:06 Mahomes for the Chiefs commissioner of
10:08 baseball Rob Manfred Tom Watson as a PGA
10:11 British Open winner that's from Kansas
10:14 City a lot of former Royals Alice Cooper
10:18 the singer says with all my blood Alice
10:20 Cooper Scott Ripken Jr so uh oh right
10:24 there yeah oh yeah and then uh I need a
10:27 vacation from Rex Cal Ripken Jr he was
10:29 teammates with Rex for a while on the
10:31 Orioles the rec toddler is our
10:34 our animals
10:36 where's Manford on here
10:39 um
10:39 right underneath Joe Carter so 29.
10:44 in the front right
10:46 there were a couple foul balls that came
10:49 in here and put a hole in the wall down
10:51 there uh one of them almost took out Cal
10:54 rip again we have two announcers up
10:56 front third announcer back here on the
10:58 left and then our producer engineer on
11:00 the right so four people working in here
11:02 oh look there's the cough button that
11:04 looks like commutes everything
11:14 all right just sitting right here comes
11:14 right between your the two heads
11:18 your Dent right down there too that's
11:20 where Brian and Andy will be tonight oh
11:22 that's
11:28 it
11:29 and then
11:38 all right another special treat we don't
11:38 always get in here but uh we're gonna so
11:41 this is the um
11:44 front row is the public address
11:46 announcer in here and then
11:49 um macro is the music the guy that does
11:51 all the walk-up needs
11:58 something you normally can't go on this
11:58 is the scoreboard room oh my
12:02 look at this
12:04 is our engineer you also I'll tell you
12:07 my worst day and my exciting day how
12:08 about that sure because I really like
12:10 technology so if if I pull into the
12:13 parking lot and I see that that board is
12:16 not working and I know I got a lot of
12:18 work that's my worst day because I'm
12:19 like oh man boards broke I gotta fix it
12:22 now my best day is when I pull into the
12:24 parking lot and I see that that board's
12:26 not working it's pretty cool because now
12:28 I get to fix it
12:35 remove this
12:35 you'll be surprised at how far you get
12:37 by reading you know how far you get by
12:39 doing what no one else wants to do
12:41 exactly because most people in this um
12:43 like we'll say a camera guy for instance
12:44 most camera guy if you want to be a new
12:46 camera guy I'll show you what I remember
12:48 to tell you you'll do it and you'll go
12:50 your whole careers for when it rains
12:51 because it's an old stadium they got the
12:53 tube
12:54 going up to the upper
13:02 decks those were a giveaway item last
13:02 year the Slugger tiles and so they're
13:04 just collecting
13:06 water we have somebody from every city
13:09 wanting to watch their player Oh over
13:13 here in the corner says do not sit here
13:15 because they don't want anybody above
13:16 the person that's operating the new
13:19 pitch clock which is over here at the
13:20 corner this is where the pitch Hawk
13:22 takes place
13:41 you'll go through this gift store over
13:41 here today we're going to come back off
13:43 this place
13:44 oh that's interesting it was called The
13:46 Royal Lancers
13:55 this is a pre-1877 base and then this is
13:55 a 18 post
13:58 1876 base a little bit bigger look at
14:01 these like it's like it looks like
14:02 something you can lay your head on and
14:03 be comfortable it's like a pillow George
14:04 Brett rookie uniform
14:06 1973 that he assigned and wrote that
14:09 little handwritten note there this is
14:11 George wrote three thousandth of the
14:12 ball and that he ended up hitting
14:16 3154. the founders there him and his
14:19 wife
14:20 and I believe Bo there wasn't a lot of
14:22 bow stuff in the in the museum there was
14:25 just his All-Star Game trophy that was
14:26 it it's one little thing but they were
14:28 playing a video where the longest home
14:29 run hit the stadium he hit 470 something
14:33 feet to Center and it landed like right
14:37 here
14:59 that was pretty awesome gonna head back
14:59 to the hotel now relax get out of the
15:01 Heat and then head back over later if
15:04 the game happens and hopefully the
15:06 weather cooperates all right it's now
15:07 four o'clock
15:08 a little bit of an update there is a
15:11 heavy thunderstorm
15:13 and tornado warning in the area
15:16 and the game
15:18 has been
15:20 postponed it will not be happening today
15:23 so there will be no baseball played over
15:25 there the field
15:28 and just kind of hoping for the best of
15:30 this weather
15:32 it's going to be uh
15:35 according to the weather it's going to
15:36 get pretty pretty intense
15:45 power just went off
15:45 power just went off I just saw a golf at
15:47 the stadium too
15:48 power just went off in the room and the
15:51 stadium
15:53 in this right when I was filming all
15:56 right can't tell if power's off at the
15:58 state it might be on a different grid
15:59 over there but in the parking lot
16:03 here at the hotel and in the room power
16:05 went out
17:00 man that is so look at that wind blowing
17:00 I mean I guess it's kind of hard to tell
17:03 through the window but it looks like the
17:07 the water from the rain is getting blown
17:09 across the roof like straight towards
17:11 this hotel this is like not even going
17:14 straight down it's just going almost at
17:16 like a
17:17 parallel to the ground angle
17:21 I'll go down to the lobby and see if the
17:24 I mean the power is off and maybe
17:26 there's a warm coffee down there you get
17:29 with the probably still heated up
17:36 time we'll go down the ground level and
17:36 see this too
17:47 that lights blinking now with the power
17:47 in the hotel's not back on
18:00 's coming down so far
18:23 that's the roof up there this is the
18:23 ceiling and the roof above it so it's a
18:26 wind hitting above the top of the roof
19:07 oh I just came back on oh we're going
19:07 off again
19:23 should probably be down on the bottom
19:23 level all right there is power on the
19:25 top level that are just oh it's just the
19:28 uh
19:30 the reserve power that they have on down
19:55 okay no matter what happens
19:55 I'll be caffeinated
20:41 all right there's a worker on
20:41 the line with the fire department there
20:43 are people stuck in the elevator
21:33 severe thunderstorm watch until 7 4 40
21:33 right now
21:34 it's like this newspaper article damage
21:37 you wouldn't entail possible starts
21:38 threatened KC area
21:42 what we're looking at now currently
21:51 and there are a lot of people waiting to
21:51 check in still
21:53 thankfully they got the elevator open
21:55 people got out of the elevator
22:18 come and play with us Danny
22:18 Danny's not here Mrs Torres
23:02 all right it's subsided a little bit so
23:02 I'm going out and about I'm gonna go by
23:04 laugh-a-gram Studios see what's going on
23:07 over there I always know I'm getting
23:09 pretty close to Walt Disney's original
23:10 Studio
23:17 pre the Disney Studios yeah laugh a gram
23:17 right up here
23:23 I always know I'm getting close when I
23:23 see that antenna off in the distance
23:25 does it really look to be like it's in
23:28 really good shape
23:29 every time I've come by here it's kind
23:31 of looked about like this someone ran
23:33 into the side of it a couple years ago
23:35 so supposedly they are renovating it
23:38 but they've been saying that for like a
23:40 decade
23:42 and a lot of the artwork that were up
23:43 there in the windows have been removed
23:46 and you can just see into the top of the
23:48 building all right let's Dodge some
23:50 raindrops here real quick like and just
23:52 show
23:53 so as The Story Goes Walt found a mouse
23:57 back here in this little wooded area and
24:01 started to care for the mouse originally
24:03 named him Mortimer Mouse
24:05 and his wife Lillian
24:07 told him he should
24:10 well he used that okay a little more to
24:12 the story he found the mouse over in
24:13 here and used that as the inspiration
24:16 for Mortimer Mouse and Mortimer Mouse
24:19 became Mickey Mouse because Lillian said
24:22 yeah probably a better you probably have
24:24 a better name than Mortimer Mouse have a
24:27 cuter Name That's How The Story Goes and
24:30 it goes anyway
24:32 there's Walt right up there so a while
24:35 back someone ran into this someone drove
24:37 into this
24:39 smashed through here
24:48 the Cradle of animation laughagrams
24:48 and this went kind of Belly Up ended up
24:51 going bankrupt moved to California
24:54 and the rest is kind of History out
24:56 there so I've always kind of looked at
24:58 this you know the story of Walt and
25:01 laugh-a-gram and not being able to
25:03 accomplish something we just keep trying
25:04 you never know what's going to happen so
25:06 think of everything
25:08 far as you know about Disney would not
25:11 have happened
25:17 if he had just tucked his leg or what
25:17 what's the tucked his head
25:19 in the sand tucked his head between his
25:21 leg I don't know what the phrase is but
25:23 if he would have given up
25:33 what we know today the Disney
25:33 Corporation
25:52 they're doing some serious construction
25:52 on that
26:00 now there's a couple photos of wall
26:01 there's a few out here I'll play up here
26:03 doing some filming and things even back
26:06 and that stuff that was never released
26:07 there's like some kind of rare photos or
26:09 kind of hard to find but they're
26:11 of him on the roof
26:13 with the camera doing some filming in
26:15 his office the animation officers are on
26:17 the back
26:18 over there
26:27 this is your update on laugh-a-gram
26:27 pretty sad to see it in this condition I
26:30 don't know what the holdup is on getting
26:33 it renovated getting it fixed up
26:40 I honestly don't know why Disney doesn't
26:40 chime in with a bunch of cash and
26:43 make it a museum of some sort
26:50 put my camera back in the car
26:50 so I didn't want it to get West I'm
26:52 using my phone now
26:53 going through here filming through here
26:56 so I want to come over to this area
26:59 and show the windows up there which
27:01 hardly
27:02 in the past were ever opened to where
27:05 you could see in there
27:07 now I've got never officially confirmed
27:14 but doing a little research years ago
27:14 when I came out here before I think my
27:16 shoes untied but it's all right
27:19 up here
27:22 so in here
27:24 was from what I can tell
27:27 you had this back portion
27:29 and some of those photos of him were in
27:31 this very spot I would love to get in
27:34 there one day and I really do hope
27:36 that one day
27:39 they get it all fixed up you see
27:41 they got some new brick there so they
27:43 are working on it it's just not coming
27:44 along very quickly
27:50 oh man that is
27:50 first time I've ever seen that window
27:52 open like that accessible like that I
27:55 mean obviously can't get in there not
27:57 safe my structurally sound
27:59 nor is that building over there
28:02 big Factory
28:11 I've been stopping by here for
28:11 over a decade on a
28:13 I'll say a regular basis but every
28:15 couple years or so
28:20 and I'm really hoping that one day
28:20 something happens
28:28 it's a huge huge chunk
28:28 of Disney history Walt history and
28:31 Disney Corporation history
28:33 I mean I guess technically it predates a
28:36 couple years to the start when
28:39 Walton Roy started the
28:41 Disney company with that name without
28:43 moniker
28:51 but imagine a mouse right here finding a
28:51 mouse going that would make for a good
28:53 cartoon character animated character a
28:56 name of Mortimer Mortimer became Mickey
28:58 we have Mickey Mouse because of this
29:02 here somewhere in here no one knows
29:04 exactly where but
29:06 That's How The Story Goes anyway and as
29:09 I'm pulling away here just a kind of a
29:11 final thought about laughagram
29:14 it makes me sad to see this building
29:16 like this
29:18 and I don't know all the red tape behind
29:19 it I don't know all the ins and outs and
29:21 why it hasn't been completed and
29:29 but just you know
29:29 you got loud I mean just just thinking
29:31 out loud for a minute think of how much
29:33 money the Disney Corporation has think
29:36 about even some of the Big Wigs some of
29:37 the higher ups the head honchos in the
29:39 corporation even if you don't want to
29:41 even again I don't know if this is even
29:44 available
29:46 to be purchased by them but I would I
29:49 would imagine so
29:51 as a passion project even if it didn't
29:53 have another company's pocket you would
29:55 think that someone
30:03 would put some money towards this
30:03 and I believe the current restoration
30:05 again I don't know I don't know all the
30:07 facts and figures
30:08 is just based on like a like funding
30:12 from normal people
30:14 but why should it be I mean just think
30:16 think of the history and the backstory
30:19 of this building
30:22 and how much has come out of the
30:24 imagination that started here
30:28 why is it rotting away like this
30:30 it just really makes me sad
30:34 and I know this isn't probably the
30:35 greatest area to be in I don't know if
30:37 any tourists would come here maybe that
30:39 is part of the problem
30:41 but why not try
30:44 but why not just invest the money into
30:47 and even if it's even if it's just fixed
30:49 up and and
30:51 brought back to its Glo The Glory Days
30:53 of how it was when Walt was here
31:01 I just look at you know I just look at
31:01 how big the corporation has gotten
31:10 hotels theme parks movies streaming
31:10 cruises
31:17 and this thing just sits here rotting
31:17 that's my thoughts on it
31:19 pathetic
31:21 makes me sad to say it like this
31:24 gave it a little time though the first
31:27 couple years I came by here over the
31:28 last decade I was like oh yeah one day
31:30 one day
31:32 well one day has passed
31:43 sorry Walt
31:43 oh dang this tree just fell
31:55 them winds were kicking
31:55 the tree down in the road
32:23 this is about a block over from laugh or
32:23 Grant
32:30 power's still not on here
32:30 I have a feeling it's not going to be on
32:31 the rest of night
32:40 it has cleared up quite a bit though
32:40 which is nice and the Sun is starting to
32:42 set
32:48 now my original plan
32:50 was to go to the game tonight
32:53 and then after that tomorrow morning
32:56 I was going to head out early and head
32:58 to my next destination
33:02 Gabe did not happen this evening
33:08 so I'm going to change things up a
33:08 little bit
33:18 because what I had planned tomorrow I
33:18 was going to be leaving Kansas City
33:20 tomorrow
33:21 but now I don't know
33:27 I'll be on the road for a while
33:27 and I had some other ideas but the new
33:29 the new baseball schedule came out for
33:30 2024 they released it yesterday or the
33:32 day before
33:33 a couple days ago
33:35 and according to my calculations
33:40 I should be able to go to every baseball
33:43 by the end of 2024.
33:47 if everything goes well
33:50 and that means going to every Stadium
33:52 while the rays are playing
33:55 so all 30 stadiums knocking them off the
33:58 list by the end of 2024 unless something
34:00 goes awry
34:03 that's the plan anyway
34:05 I think I can do it
34:10 a lot of people have done all the
34:10 stadiums I don't know how many people
34:12 have done it going to see the team that
34:14 they root for
34:15 with the new scheduling that started
34:17 this year every team plays every team
34:20 sometimes away sometimes home so it
34:22 takes you a couple years to do it and
34:24 I'm gonna do it I'll see you the next
34:25 video vlog
34:31 but yeah I gotta reschedule my travel
34:31 plans because I'm not leaving town
34:32 tomorrow I'll see the next video the
34:34 Vlog is over
