0:04 Welcome everyone. Adam the Woo here as
0:04 the recording of this Tuesday, September
0:07 9th, 2025. I am entering the property,
0:11 the premises underneath this archway
0:14 here at the one and only Knots Berry
0:19 Farm,
0:21 soon to be scary farm in less than two
0:25 weeks,
0:27 give or take a day. I think like 9 days,
0:29 10 days, I don't know. I lose the track,
0:30 but Knots Scary Farm will be rearing its
0:33 head. But right now, it's Knerry Farm on
0:38 a weekday. And I, if you are so inclined
0:42 and willing,
0:45 I'm inviting you to join me as always.
0:50 It's a wonderful day.
0:52 Join me. Good to have you here. Cheers.
0:56 I hear the coaster park open at 10:00.
0:59 It's like 10:05 right now. Shouldn't be
1:02 too busy on a weekday. Usually knots on
1:05 a weekday is known for being well, not
1:08 to use their terminology, a ghost town.
1:13 Weekend slammed weekdays from prior
1:15 experience, not as busy.
1:19 Join me,
1:21 shall you? Oh, look. They have the Scary
1:25 Farm sign up right there. They're ready
1:27 to rock. And this will most likely be my
1:29 last time in here before Scary Farm
1:32 begins.
1:34 Always good to walk around Precary Farm.
1:37 In the notsodistant future, this will be
1:39 elbow to elbow. No personal space
1:42 whatsoever. People crammed in here for
1:44 the getting their haunt on. It's kind of
1:46 nice to be in here during a non-event
1:48 though right now. Knots is known for
1:49 their events, but they're also known for
1:51 just a really cool mellow theme park.
1:54 Other parts of the year, Town Alive just
1:56 ended and Not Scary Farm is on the
1:58 horizon. And then the during the
1:59 Christmas season, they have Knots Mary
2:01 Farm. They also have Boys and Berry
2:04 Festival. They just have a complete
2:06 onslaught of events here and I love all
2:08 of them. Yeah, just definitely one of
2:10 the one of the spots I always like to
2:12 hit up when I am in SoCal. They got some
2:14 good merchandise, too. Look at these
2:15 boots, these lanterns, and these little
2:18 fanny packs right over here. Over here.
2:20 Look at I mean, there's just like right
2:21 now it is super mellow through here.
2:22 Cigar Store Indian over in the corner
2:24 there just chilling. And I can be one of
2:26 the first people on the Calico Mine
2:28 Company. Now, the train is not out here
2:30 on non busy days. They have something
2:32 called the Galloping Goose. And I got to
2:34 be completely honest, I don't know if
2:36 I've ever been on the Galloping Goose
2:38 before. So, this might be my first time
2:40 in the 100 plus times that I've been to
2:42 Knots to go on the non-train Galloping
2:45 Goose. What? That honestly might be a
2:47 pretty decent way to start the day over
2:49 here at the Calico Railway Ghost Town
2:51 Railroad Station. Galloping Goose right
2:54 over here. There's no one in line, but
2:56 it says every 15 minutes this bad boy
2:59 will uh do a loop around the park. So,
3:01 let's uh let's check it out. See if it's
3:04 uh see if it's boarding or not. The Rio
3:06 Grand Southern Galloping Goose. And
3:08 safely say, never have I been on the
3:11 galloping goose before. It's like the
3:13 driver sits there. The galloping goose.
3:17 Only in the offseason and in slow times
3:19 on weekdays do they run the galloping
3:21 goose. You got a couple people that can
3:23 sit up here. You got the person driving
3:25 it right there with that chair that
3:26 flips over to the side. Kind of weird
3:28 not seeing the big train parked right
3:31 here. Looks like the population here is
3:33 93 here in Ghost Town. Elevation 65 ft.
3:37 95. I think I'm going to ride up in the
3:40 front of the galloping goose right here.
3:42 You can ride in the front or you can
3:44 ride in the back. And this is kind of
3:45 like the regular train car, which I've
3:47 done many, many times. So, I'm going to
3:49 sit up here with the with the engineer.
3:52 Only two other people in the front
3:53 besides me.
4:00 Here's a little info about it. Enjoy a
4:00 fun ride. The galloping goose. unique
4:02 piece of equipment was built in 1931.
4:05 Purpose to supplement steam narrow gauge
4:08 railroad service to continue a rail
4:09 lifetime to many rural communities that
4:12 serve.
4:14 >> The galloping goose has a legend as well
4:15 to it.
4:17 >> It's gasoline powered.
4:19 >> It gives the appearance of being in
4:20 flight like a goose.
4:22 >> They have to go and get to film it from
4:25 outside as well once they get going.
4:27 This is very interesting.
4:28 >> Halloween is so bad and we get all those
4:31 candy. I've never been in here. Never.
4:37 >> How's everyone doing today?
4:37 >> Doing good.
4:38 >> Good. Welcome aboard.
4:42 >> All right.
4:44 >> Is this uh everyone's first time on the
4:45 Galloping Goose?
4:47 >> First time in the front.
4:49 >> Oh, then welcome to the front of the
4:51 Galloping Goose then.
4:52 >> Thank you.
4:53 >> It's my first time on the Galloping
4:55 Goose at all. And first time in the
4:56 front.
4:57 >> And a big welcome aboard indeed to you
4:59 guys. This is our piece of American
5:02 depression era history turned theme park
5:04 attraction. So, a lot of unique mileage
5:07 and galloping along for the past 90
5:09 years.
5:17 Uh we're actually sitting in a World War
5:17 II military bus shell.
5:26 And the the big kicker is to what makes
5:26 it different from a school bus than a uh
5:29 uh a military bus, if you will, is the
5:32 double doors.
6:01 Heat up
6:01 here.
6:23 Yeah, look at that.
6:23 >> Winner winner chicken dinner on the
6:25 first day. There we go.
6:28 >> You said there's two
6:31 double.
6:32 >> I do my part on this one.
6:34 >> The second one's for me.
6:35 >> You make sure
6:38 you're not
6:43 I don't have any money. I don't have any
6:44 cash on me.
6:45 >> It's a gummy pineapple white.
6:47 >> There you go.
6:50 >> I'd steal one from you, but I guess
6:54 you all are safe. What about you? You
6:56 ain't got no money.
6:56 >> I have no cash. Gold, silver, got robbed
6:59 already by Starbucks.
7:00 >> I valid point.
7:02 >> Yeah, you know, you know the situation.
7:05 >> A lot of money for water that.
7:07 >> Yes, sir.
7:09 But I guess you all enjoy your ride.
7:12 >> Yeah.
7:14 >> No eating while operating. Yes, sir.
7:20 >> I got out of that one easy.
7:23 >> Yeah. I was about to say I've seen these
7:25 before.
7:26 >> And Yeah. I was going to say from
7:28 Hawaii, so that makes sense. Are we
7:31 traveling from Hawaii? No. I just place
7:52 front view here
7:52 on the train
7:58 cemetery over here.
7:58 They don't close the doors. They leave
8:00 the doors open.
8:58 brief history lesson of what you're
8:58 riding along in right now. Gall number
9:01 three. There's seven gallops in total.
9:04 They're all built by Denver Real Grand
9:06 Train Line. They're all built with the
9:07 same purp.
9:13 Uh they're all built with various unique
9:14 components of what parts they had
9:15 available in the track yard. What this
9:18 one features in the 1920s,
9:26 we are sitting in a World War II from
9:26 his industrial use during progression to
9:29 more scenic travel afterwards. In the
9:31 1950s, Walter was buying steam engines
9:34 in the Merry farm and not only walks
9:37 away with steam engines, but also walks
9:39 away with this gallery goose. So, Gallop
9:42 Goose number three has been on M's
9:44 property for over 70 years now.
10:00 We're going to pass the regular train as
10:00 well coming up
10:02 the train maintenance building here.
10:12 All of our running stock can be seen
10:12 here on your left. 326 and Durango are
10:16 in the middle of a hefty bit of facelift
10:18 if you will. We're really trying to get
10:20 some footwork done on those but 325 that
10:24 is our current rolling stock right now.
10:33 And of course, if you look to your left
10:34 here through the window of the steel
10:35 building, you'll see engine.
10:59 All right.
11:00 And as we pull back into station here,
11:02 if you guys got any questions about the
11:04 railroad or anything uh very far
11:07 related, I will do my best to answer for
11:09 you guys.
11:19 The stage coach is running today.
11:19 Be cool to do this and the stage coach.
11:23 >> The stage coach might be a weekend only
11:25 thing.
11:28 >> Pretty cool. First time I've ever done
11:30 this scary farm preparation week, if you
11:32 will. We are uh more than uh more than
11:37 just getting ready for it. It's uh it's
11:39 about that time for us.
11:42 >> So ready. So ready.
11:44 >> The uh employee night's coming up and
11:46 that's normally their first test run, if
11:48 you will, for a scary farm. So they have
11:50 a dead man switch.
11:53 So, um, if the driver were to ever be
11:56 incapacitated or whatever may happen,
11:58 um, the brakes would actually pull this
12:00 way
12:01 >> and this is locked and so when I'm
12:02 operating, that's why I am holding that
12:05 >> that angle. Yeah.
12:06 >> Oh, I see. So, you have to actually be
12:08 pushing it.
12:09 >> Yes, it is a it is a true dead man where
12:11 it's uh if I'm not holding it, it will
12:13 break.
12:14 >> Oh, great.
12:14 >> So,
12:15 >> okay.
12:15 >> Yeah. Here, folks. So, please uh watch
12:17 your step and watch your head on the way
12:19 out. All
12:19 >> right. First time. First time for
12:21 everything. Even Even for people like me
12:23 who've been to a place a h 100 times.
12:26 Maybe 200 times. Maybe 300 times. Never
12:30 been here. Gone on the galloping goose.
12:34 I'll try to get a shot of it a little
12:36 bit later as it's as it's going around
12:37 again. But who knows if they'll run it
12:38 again. They got to wait for somebody
12:39 else to load it. And there's no one in
12:41 line right now. So you got the little
12:43 cow. It's called a cow plow on the front
12:46 there. And there's the bell. Man, that
12:49 thing's awesome. It kind of started off
12:52 the day really well. From one train ride
12:54 to another one. Now it's time for the
12:56 Calico Mine Company train. No one in
12:58 line. Well, two people just walked up in
13:00 front of me. All right, going in just
13:04 like that. Instantaneously.
13:07 Well, I can wait like 2 minutes.
13:32 My top top 10 top 20 dark
13:32 top 20
13:42 glory. Yes sir. That's the world famous
13:42 gold mine glory. the site of one of the
13:45 richest gold strikes in all of the
13:47 border history.
13:59 Now we're heading over an underground
14:00 lake in the mouth river. We were not
14:03 paying for
14:30 You'll hear me mining in here. Mining in
15:40 All right, back into the animatronics
15:40 now. They're everywhere.
15:49 Hyped up.
15:49 That's one of my favorite animatronics
15:51 in here. Guy with the pickaxe.
15:53 Back into the glory hole.
15:56 That's what they call it.
16:50 This guy's face always always gets me
16:50 too.
17:17 Up ahead there.
17:18 Ladder. That means progress. And
17:20 progress means blessing.
17:23 Look out folks. We're heading straight
17:26 to party.
17:55 Love it. Love it.
17:55 >> Looks like we all made it out just in
17:57 time. Look at this. Your engineers died
18:00 on my driving. Y'all get along now. Oh,
18:03 >> that was awesome.
18:05 Kind of was hoping the Calico Logging
18:07 Company log ride would be working, but
18:10 looks like they're set dressing it for
18:12 the Halloween and everything because
18:13 it'd be nice to just walk right on that
18:14 too cuz there's like very few people
18:17 here. Like how they set dress this for
18:19 the Halloween time. So that that's
18:20 probably why it's closed down. They're
18:22 probably set dressing it for the spooky
18:24 season. Setting up over here for the
18:26 Carnival Deg Grotesque, which is going
18:29 to be the stage show at Scary Farm. So,
18:32 going to show a little some Scary Farm
18:33 updates as well. Not a not a complete
18:35 update cuz obviously I'm doing other
18:36 things too, but I mean passing by this
18:38 obviously this is for Scary Farm. So, so
18:40 I'm showing it. There goes the Pony
18:42 Express
18:44 going around and it does like an abrupt
18:46 stop right here.
18:50 Right there. That's it. Done.
18:53 Short and sweet. Should be a show back
18:55 in here. Now they only use this building
18:57 back in this direction for not scary
18:59 farm. But if you look over in here,
19:00 they've got all the pumpkins set up. But
19:03 down where are they? There are some koi
19:05 fish. Maybe they're over here. Right
19:07 down over here. You can see there are a
19:08 few koi down in the water swimming
19:11 around down there. Where they going? I
19:12 scared may have startled them. Maybe
19:14 they heard me coming up. Maybe they
19:16 don't want with a camera shot. There's
19:17 some koi down there. There he is. Right
19:20 there.
19:22 the galloping goose. Not goose, the
19:25 galloping goose from this perspective.
19:28 So, you can see what I was on a little
19:30 bit earlier. I guess they do leave the
19:31 doors open for every ride through. This
19:34 guy's This is the guy panning for gold
19:35 down here.
19:38 Got a couple few cobwebs on them down
19:41 below. Go over here to the Bootill
19:44 Cemetery momentarily. I do want to show
19:48 the Pony Express ride. I always call it
19:51 the precursor to the same ride system
19:53 that Tron has at Magic Kingdom,
19:58 but obviously Trot is a little more
19:59 elaborate and longer and inside and more
20:02 theming and all that, but if you kind of
20:03 look at it, it's the same kind of when
20:04 you're when you're on the the horses
20:06 themselves, watch how the way you're
20:08 sitting on them. See, leaning forward
20:12 kind of like Tron is same kind of same
20:15 kind of ride system. Now, there are no
20:17 shows in the Bird Cage Theater today,
20:19 but you can walk around the little lobby
20:21 here and show some of the some of the
20:23 old photos that are in here and what
20:25 they call birds that have flown, famous
20:27 celebrities that used to work inside and
20:30 perform inside the Bird Cage Theater.
20:33 GE Bell, Susan Hoffman, John Stewart.
20:38 Let me go up here. You said Steve Martin
20:40 right up here. It says, "Best of luck to
20:41 all who've passed through the bird
20:43 cage." Steve Martin performed in there
20:46 as well as all these other people. Jenny
20:49 Senior and Dean Jones.
20:51 >> Oh, Dean Jones. Pretty interesting.
20:54 Disney legend Dean Jones. Never
20:56 realized. Everyone always talks about
20:57 Steve Martin, which is very impressive,
20:59 but Dean Jones also perform performed
21:01 inside the Bird Cage Theater. How cool
21:03 is that? Susan Langford, Laura
21:06 Patterson.
21:08 She was on Private Benjamin and
21:10 Airplane. Oh, and then Kim Langford was
21:13 on Knots Landing. She also performed in
21:16 there. Very interesting. Up at a Ghost
21:20 Town. You come over here and see another
21:22 handcarved cigar Indian right here. Got
21:25 the cigars. Then you got John Wayne. And
21:27 fitting in with the ghost [music] town
21:28 theme. You got 3PO and R2 right over
21:32 here, which all right. Got one over
21:34 here. For $2,400, you can buy this 5ft
21:37 one, which is kind of neat. Look at
21:39 these. Is a rubber band. You're getting
21:41 like uh fire road v r rubber bands off
21:43 of these. You get these wanted posters
21:45 for $6. Calamity Jane, Billy the Kid.
21:49 Believe I'm going to go in the old
21:50 Calico Saloon. Get myself a beverage.
21:54 Cold beverage this time. Years ago on
21:56 these off slow days, you used to be able
21:58 to go up top, but I guess now they have
21:59 it. They have the top closed off. Got
22:01 the old bank over there. It's got some
22:03 set dressing skeletons there [music] for
22:04 the spooky season. The shack of Judge
22:06 Roy Bean. Justice of the Peace and the
22:09 Law West of the Pay Coast, the Jersey
22:12 Lily Shack right here. And over here's
22:14 the stage coach area, but it looks like
22:16 it's roped off. I don't think it's open.
22:17 No go on the stage coach today. Fenced
22:20 off. It's kind of neat to see a stage
22:22 coach little area and then the coaster
22:24 going directly above it. Butterfield
22:25 stage coach closed. Stage coach closed
22:28 today. And a little more of the set
22:30 dressing for Scary Farm coming up here
22:32 in the stage coach. And this is going to
22:34 take you over through this little tunnel
22:36 to an area that is called Forsaken Lake
22:39 right there. There's the Forsaken Lake
22:41 sign little getting ready for the old
22:45 scary farm. Soon we'll be going into the
22:48 fog.
22:50 Then you walk through here,
22:52 you got these little photos. There's
22:54 Juan Cabrilla. He was the first European
22:57 to lead the expedition to California.
22:59 These two ships sailed in the San Diego
23:01 Harbor September 1542.
23:09 This is the only portrait, the only
23:09 authentic portrait of Wanapro
23:13 painted in 1773.
23:22 I've never stopped to look at all these.
23:22 Hernando Cortez named California after a
23:26 makebelieve island that he had read
23:28 about in a book. The island was supposed
23:32 to be a magic place. I did never knew
23:34 that.
23:35 I never knew that that was where the
23:37 name California came from.
23:40 And here's all the different missions or
23:42 at least a percent some of the missions
23:45 all down the coast.
23:52 Wow, that is interesting. Fernando
23:52 Cortez named California after a
23:54 makebelieve island they read about in a
23:56 book. Who knew? Oh, I think this thing's
24:00 going up. Oh, it is. It's elevating up
24:03 here
24:05 above what will soon be
24:08 Forsaken
24:10 Lake.
24:24 It's definitely a nice vibe being empty,
24:24 but there is a lot of stuff not open.
24:26 Obviously, my favorite area of Knots is
24:29 Ghost Town. Hard to beat Ghost Town.
24:32 I'm not really a big coaster guy. I ride
24:34 some coasters, but
24:37 extreme coasters of me don't really get
24:39 along too well. Have to pick and choose
24:41 my my coasters wisely, but I'm more of a
24:44 theming. I'm more of a dark ride kind of
24:46 guy and a ghost towny ambiance kind of
24:49 guy than I am a thrill ride amusement
24:52 park. I'm more of a theme parky. So,
24:54 it's interesting how Knots is kind of a
24:55 combination of a theme park and also a
24:57 combination of an amusement amusement
25:00 park theme park and an amusement park.
25:04 I'm kind of dipping over into the
25:05 amusement
25:07 park ride or side of it coaster side.
25:11 does not appear as if the entire ride
25:14 vehicle on Jaguar is full. That means
25:17 that it's a complete walk-on.
25:26 Look at that. That was only one, two,
25:26 three, probably onethird of the entire
25:29 ride vehicle on Jaguar was full.
25:34 Walk on.
26:13 Look like they're coming along with the
26:13 construction on that. That thing's been
26:14 down for a long time. Oh, look at that.
26:16 You go right through the middle of it.
26:20 That's new, I think.
27:01 I always like to pretend that these two
27:01 animals right here were trying to piss
27:02 up. Nearly doesn't get more old school
27:05 as far as coasters go than the Jaguar.
27:08 They just accomplished it. Been on it
27:10 many times. Went on it again.
27:19 Old school.
27:19 I love the I love the structure here as
27:22 well, too. It is just so chill through
27:24 here. I mean, it's just couple people
27:27 walking around here and there. Oh, this
27:28 is open. This hasn't been open for a
27:29 while, also. Scary farm stuff.
27:33 They also do a combined scary farm with
27:35 daytime spooky farm, which also happens.
27:38 This was under construction for a while,
27:39 but now you can walk back underneath the
27:41 waterfall here next to the Grizzly Creek
27:43 Lodge. So, I think I'm going to do that.
27:45 I think I'm going to take this
27:46 opportunity to walk back through the
27:49 waterfall. Haven't been able to do this
27:50 for probably a year, maybe even more
27:53 than a year, where you walk across the
27:54 barrel bridge and you go over inside the
27:58 barrel bridge, kind of Tom Sawyer's
28:01 Islandish
28:02 in a lot of ways. And then you go inside
28:05 the cave
28:07 itself.
28:09 Oh yeah, I'm glad this is reopened.
28:12 Very cool. Got
28:16 two different entrances,
28:19 four exits. I think today it probably
28:21 doesn't matter. There's no one else in
28:23 the cave.
28:42 Pretty fun. There's a lot of water
28:42 effects. In fact, when you go on the log
28:45 ride, the Q- line goes through something
28:47 like this where there's water pouring
28:49 down as well. Similar to this, this is
28:52 not the log ride, but the queue at the
28:55 log ride reminds me of this a lot.
29:07 All right, heading back out. Going back
29:07 into the park.
29:10 This thing's bumpy. Here you go.
29:15 Fun little thing that just reopened.
29:22 Can also file these props under scary
29:22 farm preview as well. Oh, is Jaguar
29:26 about to go over?
29:29 No, I think that's Sidewinder over
29:31 there. Maybe. I hear something. There's
29:34 just so many different attractions that
29:36 could be. But yes, file this one under
29:39 more props over here.
29:41 the scary farm props.
29:44 I'm delaying it a little bit because I'm
29:46 going to get coaster going by again. And
29:50 show these.
29:58 There it goes
29:58 up and around. All the blood rushing
30:01 down to your feet. Done this one a few
30:05 times. Not my favorite. Kind of throws
30:07 your equilibrium off a little bit.
30:11 That's a cool Oh, wow. Wow.
30:19 Look at this over here. Look at her over
30:19 there. Hiding, lurking in the shadows,
30:23 if you will. The casket over there. My
30:26 remains. Oh, my remains. Okay, I get it
30:29 now. And you got this ghoulish creature.
30:33 There's another old vehicle.
30:36 Check this out.
30:38 There's a cowboy skeleton cowboy in
30:41 front here for the haunt season. This is
30:44 like an old train. Well, piece of a
30:46 train something or other. Maybe not.
30:48 This looks like a I don't know, one of
30:50 those things you see on the road to like
30:51 flatten the road. Like a rolling rolling
30:54 device maybe. I don't know if that was
30:55 that might have not been on a train.
30:58 These look like train wheels, but I
31:00 think these are just wheels to ride on
31:01 regular concrete.
31:04 Look at this carving here on this pole.
31:07 Got this buffalo here. Got this
31:09 gentleman with a beard.
31:12 One thing about knots, it's kind of neat
31:13 to just walk around and just look at
31:14 stuff. I mean, it's that way with any
31:16 theme park, even like Disney and other
31:19 places that have a lot of theming. There
31:20 just little things you miss unless you
31:22 just take the time to just pace
31:24 yourself, soak it in, and not be in a
31:26 rush or even have a game plan.
31:32 Like these tepee's over here. The teepee
31:32 right there. There a tepee right there.
31:36 up here. There's like there's like some
31:38 cactus growing on the roof. Look at all
31:41 this cacti up here. Growing up on the
31:44 roof. I've never noticed that before
31:45 either. This is the backside of the
31:47 bottle house. So, the bottle house is
31:49 over there. See door that leads into
31:50 this exterior around the back of the
31:54 bottle house. You see, back in the day,
31:56 people inscribed their names in here.
31:58 Probably frowned upon, but they did it
32:00 anyway. So, all these have names. And
32:01 now been weather warned. You can't even
32:03 read the names anymore. You can kind of
32:05 read what the names say, but but not
32:07 really. You see these on a lot of the a
32:09 lot of the bricks dating back years ago
32:11 all through here. Maybe the most unique
32:14 tree I will see today. All the knots
32:16 here on the tree. No pun intended cuz I
32:18 meant knots, but didn't mean to do that.
32:21 It's got knots on the brain. But look at
32:22 the little lumpy knots going down the
32:24 side of the of the trunk here.
32:31 I got funnel cakes. You know what I
32:31 think I might do? I might get some
32:33 takeout. Not Mrs. Not chicken dinner. I
32:36 love Mrs. Knots chicken dinner. I think
32:38 I've said this before. I think Plaza in
32:40 at Disneyland takes the cake for the
32:43 number one theme park chicken meal,
32:46 but Mrs. N chicken dinner is probably
32:48 number two. They call this the bottle
32:50 house because it is in fact made out of
32:53 bottles. You see here, these are the
32:55 bottles. They go into the other side of
32:57 the the building. So you look at this
32:59 way and then you come inside. Once you
33:01 go inside here, you'll see the other
33:02 side of the bottles right here, making
33:06 up the inside of the bottle house, which
33:08 is now used as a gift shop.
33:12 The bottle house.
33:15 Pretty neat, right? And if you look at
33:18 it closely, when the sun's coming from
33:19 the other direction, you can almost get
33:21 this like neat little the different
33:24 color bottles there. Oh, here we go.
33:26 Bottle house. Here's a little info on
33:28 it. Bottle house. Although building
33:29 materials were often scarce in the old
33:30 west, liquid bottles were always
33:31 plentiful. Enterprising miner would
33:34 sometimes build himself a house out of
33:35 bottles and mud. Not the one here at KN
33:38 was built in 1944 and is similar to the
33:40 one in Nevada. Well, Rio Riyolite.
33:45 >> Hello.
33:45 >> It contains 3,82 wine and whiskey
33:48 bottles.
33:48 >> Right before heading over to the chicken
33:50 takeout place, you can go in the
33:52 restaurant or you can go to a takeout
33:54 window, which is what I'm going to do.
33:55 Kind of pop inside Virginia's gift shop.
33:57 Check out some merch. There's the bear.
34:02 He's just by himself today alone with
34:03 his thoughts. Probably could probably
34:05 enjoys the peace and quiet to be honest.
34:12 This is what I just went through right
34:12 there. Calico Mine Company.
34:16 Here we go. After five years of
34:18 operating smaller attractions around
34:20 Knots, Bud Hurlebert or Hurbert
34:24 constructed a new concession in the form
34:26 of enormous sevenstory tall dark ride.
34:30 360° theming, a trip into the Calico
34:33 Mine Company mountain was unlike any
34:34 other attraction at the time, and its
34:37 hidden switchback queue and track layout
34:39 were groundbreaking and inspirational.
34:48 Knots is a game changer.
34:48 >> Open before Disneyland.
34:52 >> Think about that. In fact, it is said
34:55 that Walt Disney himself was friends
34:57 with Walter not and even visited here
35:00 and obviously took some inspiration from
35:02 this place.
35:04 There's John Wayne right there. The
35:08 Duke.
35:10 So much history here. There's the burrow
35:12 ride. Can't ride burrows anymore.
35:17 At least not here. Look at that right
35:20 Look at all the people on the burrows.
35:24 It's a great train robbery at Knottberry
35:26 and Ghost Town.
35:29 The old barn.
35:32 A bewitched village. Sounds cool. They
35:36 even had a cable car at one point.
35:39 Oh, knots California chicken restaurant
35:42 bloomed around our marketplace bloomed
35:44 around the chicken dinner restaurant.
35:47 The Knots family friendship with
35:48 Hurlebert would change the farm forever.
35:52 So Bud, who also designed the mine train
35:54 ride, also did the carousel
36:06 dating back to the 50s. Looks to be an
36:06 old guide map right here of what it
36:08 looked back
36:10 back in the day. See if I can see a year
36:13 on this. Don't see a year. Chicken
36:16 dining room down here. Gift shop.
36:18 There's Walter himself.
36:22 Boot Hill. Haunted Shack. Burrow R. Oh,
36:24 they don't have the Haunted Shack
36:25 anymore. And here's Ghost Town School
36:28 Road. Bird Cage Theater School. That's
36:30 still all the same layout. Then you go
36:32 through here down Main Street. That's
36:35 where the Claude Bellen is where you get
36:38 the photo with the
36:49 There's also a museum on site in Ghost
36:49 Town. Really fascinating. A lot of good
36:50 stuff in it. It was closed today. Look
36:51 at this. They used to have an arena.
36:54 It wasn't Everything wasn't open today,
36:56 but the stuff that was open.
36:58 >> Yeah, I'm having trouble with my credit
37:00 card. Successful meal for Mrs. Knott's
37:03 chicken dinner. Been around for a long
37:06 time. Cordelia KN,
37:08 wife of Walter Knot, the one that
37:10 started it, named it after herself.
37:12 That's why it's called Mrs. Knott's
37:13 chicken dinner.
37:19 >> The one of some of the best best things
37:19 about the meal for me personally,
37:21 chicken's pretty good, but the sides I
37:23 think are a little bit better,
37:24 especially the mashed potatoes and
37:26 gravy. Really good mashed potatoes. And
37:29 then also the
37:32 the biscuits that they have are really
37:34 really good
37:41 top tier biscuits. You kind of sop them
37:41 up in the in the gravy
37:45 if you so choose. On the way out they
37:47 have a photo of Walter and Cordelia.
37:50 They also have a photo of back when the
37:52 place first opened or at least the early
37:53 years. Maybe not right when it opened
37:55 but the early years. And Virginia's Gift
37:58 Shop was still right next door. So,
37:59 still all these years later, Virginia's
38:01 Gift Shop and Mrs. Notch Chicken Dinner
38:04 Restaurant. And the line was out of
38:06 control when it opened back in the day.
38:08 Wasn't too out of control today. In
38:10 fact, the service was so quick and so
38:11 fast. Very happy with the meal.
38:16 It's one of those things when you're at
38:17 knots, you kind of have to do it. I
38:20 don't even know if the wooden coaster is
38:22 running today. I I was kind of standing
38:23 here waiting to
38:26 maybe see if I could get a little final
38:29 clip here of the coaster going by. Ghost
38:31 Rider.
38:33 Maybe the coaster is not running
38:34 tonight. That would be weird.
38:37 That would be very peculiar. Such a
38:39 popular attraction. On a normal day, the
38:43 wait time for this is, you know, like an
38:44 hour or more long.
38:53 I don't think it's running to be honest.
38:53 All right, that's going to do it for
38:54 today. Thanks for watching. Man, I'm so
38:57 glad I got to go on the goose.
39:00 I'll see you in the next video, the
39:02 vlog. I appreciate it. Thanks for
39:03 watching. A vlog is utter.
