0:11 ticklish

0:18 of the sun rising early morning in
0:21 kokomo
0:22 indiana this 12 13 maybe 14 foot tall
0:28 creature of the shrubs
0:32 coco mantis we meet again
0:36 welcome everyone adam the woo
0:40 here it has been a year and a half maybe
0:42 two years i have lost
0:44 track of the last time i was in
0:47 the state of indiana and never as far
0:50 back as i can recall have i
0:52 visited during the month of october but
0:55 i decided
0:56 heck it fly flew out yesterday
1:01 hanging out with my sister the next few
1:03 days who lives
1:04 in the vicinity and this
1:07 is a almost a vicarious stomping ground
1:11 for me a secondary home if you will
1:16 even though it's been a while since i
1:17 hated to visit i'm just going to wander
1:19 around
1:20 and check and see if anything has
1:22 changed reminisce
1:25 and showcase what there is in this neck
1:28 of the woods
1:30 claim to fame that the coco mantis has
1:33 if
1:34 if there is any is stevo from jackass
1:37 climbed up on this and perched on his
1:39 noggin
1:40 many many moons ago
1:44 i'm not i'm not going to do that because
1:47 he just doesn't like it i'm inviting you
1:48 to join me
1:51 oh it goes it's brisk out here i might
1:53 have to get a
1:54 purchase a hoodie or a jacket at some
1:56 point and a coffee
1:57 a piping warm caffeinated beverage is in
2:00 my immediate future join me shall you
2:04 whether the mantis wants to be or not it
2:08 is
2:08 more or less the unofficial mascot of
2:12 this
2:13 tiny quaint community
2:16 looming over the traffic
2:24 i love it look how tall that thing is
2:24 take a look at this
2:48 a little harry potter going on here in
2:48 indiana
2:49 at the moment it's 51 degrees it's a
2:52 little brisk but it's going to warm up
2:53 very quickly within the next couple
2:55 hours
2:56 it's going to be very tolerable so i
2:57 think i can hold out
3:00 without getting a jacket in all honesty
3:04 it kind of feels colder than it really
3:06 is it's a
3:08 maybe i'm just not acclimated to a hands
3:11 maybe it's nowhere near
3:12 the freezing temperatures at all it's
3:14 not near 32 degrees or under but my
3:16 hands are
3:18 are feeling it so the sun needs to to
3:20 get up higher elevated don't worry
3:22 there will be no train going through
3:25 here this
3:26 this track this rail is not quite
3:30 operational anymore goes off into the
3:34 shrubs there
3:44 very grown over from this direction as
3:44 well
3:59 the walkway continues underneath
3:59 washington street
4:01 there's a painting here a butterfly
4:05 instead of crossing over the road you
4:07 just go
4:09 under this this beautiful
4:13 artwork
4:23 just enjoying the day up there huh
4:23 squirrel
4:36 yup chowing down on something
4:36 that reminds me i need i need to have
4:38 makeshift breakfast in the form of
4:41 a coffee i'm gonna go get one now
4:52 okay see you later squirrel following
4:52 what is now
4:53 kind of protocol more or less you don't
4:55 want to shake hands
4:57 you want to give a see i don't want to
4:59 shake your hand but you're doing the
5:00 fist bump so
5:02 yeah it's just 2020
5:05 the greeting initiated
5:10 good to see you
5:17 name the jackrabbit i believe this has
5:17 been repainted and repurposed and
5:20 tidied up just a bit since the last time
5:23 i was here
5:25 i think a trolley just went by yeah look
5:30 there's a trolley
5:40 this homestead is being attacked by cobs
5:40 notice all the all the cobb webbing
5:44 here and all the ghouls
5:47 upon its porch perfect place for a cup
5:50 of joe
5:51 is next door at the storybook express
5:56 it's a drive-through and very unique
5:58 looking building
6:00 with a front door that is
6:03 something you don't see every day
6:07 not your typical store to get
6:11 you know sodas and candy and whatnot
6:14 fresh
6:15 brew achieved bean town gourmet
6:19 except it's i would say it's classified
6:21 as lukewarm it's not
6:23 not as toasty as i like but it'll it'll
6:25 do the trick
6:27 about a mile or so away
6:30 arrived at highland park
6:35 and it's always the little things that
6:37 are exciting
6:39 like the leaves falling from the trees
7:10 nothing says americana quite like well
7:10 there's a lot of things that do but
7:12 a covered bridge certainly is
7:16 one of those things this states vermont
7:19 1875.
7:29 transferred from a different state
7:29 obviously
7:31 a little placard here that says
7:35 removed and brought to highland park in
7:39 1975
7:40 a vermont bridge
7:49 okay i stand corrected 1875 is when it
7:49 was in vermont and it was moved here in
8:04 it's got some some lights there
8:04 up top
8:17 i can't be the only one i know i've
8:17 stated this before i can't be the only
8:19 one
8:20 that thinks i'm beetlejuice when you see
8:23 a covered bridge like this
8:32 no vehicles allowed though they put the
8:32 little stanchions at the end so
8:34 no car can drive over here get
8:35 distracted by a dog
8:38 and drive off the side that can't happen
8:41 in here anymore because of the
8:42 barricades
8:51 got to see if old ben is still over here
8:51 maybe it's big ben i know it's ben
8:55 but i can't remember which if it's old
8:58 or
8:59 big old ben at birth he was acclaimed
9:03 the largest
9:04 calf in the world and was an object of
9:06 wonder
9:09 born in january of 1902
9:20 placed here to appear to be grazing on
9:20 some hay
9:22 oh ben
9:28 good to see you again buddy not really
9:28 sure if
9:29 the perspective shows up you know as far
9:33 as camera wise versus being here in
9:34 person
9:36 you kind of get the general idea he's
9:39 about
9:39 my height i'm six foot three and i'm
9:42 kind of parallel with the top of his
9:44 back
9:46 and after re-reading that signage says
9:48 height
9:49 at four quarter is six
9:52 foot four so yeah just about the same
9:57 and in the next room over behind this
9:59 glass window i'm peeking in
10:02 is a gargantuan sycamore stump
10:10 zykius would could utilize that thing
10:10 to no end originally stood in the west
10:15 end of howard county about two miles
10:17 north of new london along the north bank
10:19 of
10:20 scenic wildcat creek
10:23 100 feet tall storms broke it down
10:26 but it had a 57-foot circumference
10:30 of one of its lower branches
10:33 you see how it goes all the way up to
10:35 the
10:36 to the ceiling roof line there
10:47 the structure that houses both those
10:47 items has been recreated in model form
10:50 and is also placed inside its doors
10:55 looks as if it it might light up there's
10:58 a plug in there
11:00 that's not in an outlet
11:07 there's the recreation
11:07 behind the glare of the glass as well as
11:10 that covered bridge
11:12 and miniature scale nicely done
11:16 according to this quilt the stump used
11:18 to be
11:19 open-aired it didn't have wasn't in the
11:22 current building
11:23 it was under a little vestibule there
11:26 back in the day
11:29 as i wander around noticing
11:32 there's a a bridge of some sort maybe
11:36 for
11:36 a railroad line perhaps it's just kind
11:40 of tucked away in there going over
11:42 over the creek you can see it from this
11:44 perspective a little better
11:47 yeah rusted out metal piece over there
11:50 across the waterway
12:03 making some noise down there get the
12:03 rock work
12:05 this aluminum bridge here this really
12:09 dates back
12:10 quite a while quite a ways
12:23 incredibly peaceful out here
12:23 i love it it took a little walking
12:25 around for me to find i never
12:27 have noticed this before
12:30 but at the bottom of the parking area
12:33 the parks department building are
12:36 remnants
12:37 of the old zoo that used to be out here
12:41 that closed in the 30s
12:44 you could see some of the embankment
12:47 here we're not there
12:48 at the bottom of the embankment where
12:57 is and you can even see how the ground
12:57 you know over time
12:59 has kind of elevated up a little bit and
13:02 covered
13:03 that hole there this is pretty dang
13:05 awesome
13:44 it has been a while since i've been away
13:44 from
13:46 you know bigger areas metropolitan
13:49 sections you know i've gone to orlando
13:51 area i've been los angeles i love living
13:54 in orange county california and no plans
13:58 to move however
14:00 you know 2020 i had some some things
14:03 formulating in the mind i was going to
14:05 to do and document and that did not
14:08 happen
14:09 you know for all of us this year has
14:11 been a little bit wacky
14:13 next year i have some ideas those ideas
14:17 that i was
14:18 going was going to to do this year
14:21 next year will be happening a reformat
14:25 a i'll say a rebranding but there will
14:29 be more of
14:31 more road trips more of this type of
14:32 stuff i'm not going to give any of that
14:35 away now but
14:36 i really miss i miss this type of
14:40 this type of content i do a wide variety
14:43 a wide
14:44 range of stuff from theme parks
14:47 filming locations roadside attractions
14:50 stuff like that but
14:52 it's just something about this
14:57 small town life documenting things which
15:00 are easily
15:01 overlooked all across the u.s
15:09 so just keep that in mind and i'll keep
15:09 it in my mind as well 2021
15:13 okay moving on it's a nice little tie-in
15:15 that i'm driving a car
15:17 because right up here is a little
15:18 history pertaining
15:20 to the automobile
15:27 on july 4th 1894 elwood
15:28 haynes made the first test run
15:31 of an automobile which he designed and
15:33 built
15:34 this car reached a speed of seven miles
15:36 per hour over a six-mile course
15:39 down the pumpkinville pike and looks to
15:43 be
15:43 some sort of uh abandoned production
15:46 facility a warehouse back there
15:52 that's no longer being used at least
15:52 from this angle
15:55 during these times
16:00 no cars in the parking lot and if you
16:00 follow the road up a couple blocks
16:03 is another designation here in kokomo
16:07 not the beach boys song that they were
16:10 referring to
16:11 which is not a real place this one
16:13 however
16:15 is tablet marks the road
16:19 and starting place
16:22 on july 4th 1894. now both of these
16:25 markers are a couple blocks from each
16:27 other
16:29 i believe the one down the way was where
16:32 the car was built this is where he
16:34 started the drive
16:36 seated in america's first car
16:40 made the initial run here the birthplace
16:43 of a new era of transportation the
16:45 nucleus
16:47 and beginning of the automotive
16:51 industry 1893
16:54 or maybe 1894. that's why there's a
16:58 a dash there
17:05 pretty cool right i would imagine most
17:08 that
17:09 crews buy this
17:15 are going a little too quickly to even
17:15 read the
17:16 the small print there or even know
17:20 what happened right here on this corner
17:23 unless they're locals it's it's it's
17:25 good local lore
17:30 oh someone's speeding off there they're
17:30 recreating the moment
17:32 except the original car i think only
17:33 went under 10 miles an hour
17:35 so probably didn't speed off and squeal
17:37 like that
17:39 that's gonna do it for today
