0:03 Disney's Hollywood
0:03 Studios. I don't think I'll ever be able
0:06 to call it that. You'll always be MGM to
0:09 me. Welcome everyone. Adam the Woo here.
0:13 Today's video is going to be
0:15 interactive. If you choose to accept
0:18 this Columbbo like research skill
0:21 mission, I will be giving addresses that
0:24 you can look up on Google satellite view
0:26 and Google Earth and Street View. So, if
0:29 you want to follow along, you have that
0:32 ability. It's my second channel, daily
0:34 vlog channel. It's the Daily Woo. Before
0:38 this was renamed Hollywood Studios, it
0:41 always had a very strong Hollywood
0:44 theme. In fact, nearly every building in
0:47 the park is completely resembled and
0:51 emulated off of a real facade in
0:54 California. And because of my love of
0:56 the origins of this place and the fact
0:58 that I lived in California for a year
1:00 and a half, I've been wanting to do this
1:03 subject for quite some time. Long before
1:06 they wanted you to believe that you were
1:08 in a galaxy far, far away, they wanted
1:11 you to believe you were in Hollywood. In
1:14 fact, the trash cans still say, "Keep
1:17 our city clean." A city that in your
1:21 imagination is over 2,000 miles away
1:24 from where I'm standing right now in
1:27 Orlando. Hooray for Hollywood Land. It
1:30 used to be called Hollywood Land, but
1:31 now it's Hollywood on the West Coast.
1:33 And it used to be MGM Studios here and
1:35 now it's Hollywood Studios here in CMI,
1:39 Florida. Just ask Bo. He
1:42 knows. Bo knows. But they no longer
1:46 really follow that theming. The dark
1:48 side has taken over. What have you done
1:52 with Michael Eisner? They do that Star
1:55 Wars march every hour, so I have to be
1:57 quick in between the stormtroopers to
2:00 get these shots of Hollywood Boulevard
2:02 and sunset.
2:05 In 1989, when the Imagineers built the
2:08 roads here, they took painstaking detail
2:11 to recreate. Someone was yelling at me.
2:14 And I will not mention the Tower of
2:15 Terror, which of course was named after
2:17 the Hollywood Tower in Los Angeles, or
2:19 the recreation of Cara Circle, which is
2:22 where Snow White premiered in 1937, or
2:26 the rock formations commonly referred to
2:28 as Two Gates. If you were in California,
2:31 that would lead you to the Hollywood
2:32 sign. I want to dig a little bit deeper
2:34 into Sunset Boulevard, which was
2:36 actually built a few years after opening
2:38 day, and Hollywood Boulevard, which
2:41 premiered on opening day. So naturally,
2:43 I will not be mentioning the Chinese
2:45 Theater, which deserves a subject matter
2:48 all of its own, or Echo Lake, which is a
2:51 scale model version of a similar named
2:54 lake in California. And check out this
2:57 dinosaur. The specific name for that
3:00 architecture, it's called California
3:02 Crazy. I'm serious. That is the specific
3:04 name. That boat falls in that category
3:06 as well. But what I do want to
3:08 concentrate on is the amazingly blatant
3:11 squirrel. the amazing painstaking detail
3:14 that went into every building here that
3:17 is walked past daily virtually
3:19 unnoticed. In a topic completely
3:21 different than the subject at hand, they
3:23 have removed the wall and all the busts
3:26 from this little area. Walt was right
3:29 there. They got rid of Walt. What? Oh,
3:32 great. We got to move fast cuz they're
3:34 coming through right now. Oh, man.
3:38 On your way. I'm sorry, sir. Good.
3:41 Another honorable mention that I will
3:43 not talk about, of course, is the
3:45 Hollywood Brown Derby recreation. Oh
3:48 gosh, here they come again. I'm sensing
3:51 a very Howard the Duck theme. So, let's
3:53 start off at the entryway to the park.
3:56 You see this thing called the Crossroads
3:58 of the World. And if you look up on
4:01 street view,
4:03 6671 Sunset Boulevard, you will see this
4:07 exact structure sitting there. And a lot
4:10 of people don't even realize that when
4:12 you walk into the former MGM Hollywood
4:14 Studios that you are passing a piece of
4:17 West Coast history. The only major
4:19 difference is this one has a Mickey
4:21 Mouse on top that acts also as a
4:24 lightning rod. I wonder how many times
4:26 lightning has struck that little guy.
4:29 This gas service station really is not
4:31 based on one particular address, but
4:34 just a conglomerate of Southern
4:36 California old school gas station.
4:39 tagging along today. It's Micah, who
4:41 probably is the only friend I have that
4:44 has the same joy of old school MGM.
4:48 Yeah. It's funny you say that because
4:49 you are also one of the only friends I
4:51 have who cares. We might be We might be
4:53 the only two people on Earth that cares.
4:55 That care. We care. We care. I'm going
4:57 to start on this side of the road and
5:01 work my way down Hollywood Boulevard,
5:03 down Sunset, come back down, then loop
5:07 back down this side of Hollywood
5:09 Boulevard and maybe over to Echo Lake.
5:12 So, that's the order I'm going to go in.
5:13 Movie star. Yeah, I know. I know.
5:17 Technically, you need to make a movie
5:19 every 10 years to be considered a movie
5:21 star. It's been a long time. I've never
5:23 seen a movie star in real life. I'm a
5:24 movie star. Do you know who I think?
5:26 What? You're in Hollywood, California.
5:27 You're going to see all kinds of movie
5:28 stars. I hopefully that rolling. It is.
5:31 Hi, it's me, Dorman, the greatest star
5:33 of the entire universe. I want you all
5:34 to come and see my brand new film. It's
5:36 coming out this spring. It's called
5:38 Pardon My Wind. Pardon My Wind. Yes.
5:42 Isn't it That's a sequel, isn't it? Yes,
5:43 it is a sequel to I've known you Far Too
5:46 Long.
5:47 I don't know why the critics are already
5:48 calling you stinking. They really are.
5:50 Yeah. At 7290 Beverly Boulevard is the
5:54 inspiration for the corner piece here
5:57 and it's the far entrance into what they
6:00 call the dark room. And you can see the
6:03 pillar looks very similar. Even the
6:05 structure and the design leading up the
6:08 pillar at 5370 Wilshshire Boulevard used
6:11 to sit the dark room, but it still
6:14 exists here on the east coast. In fact,
6:17 it is an exact reproduction of what the
6:20 one out in Hollywood used to look like
6:23 down to the camera and the entryway door
6:27 to the left.
6:30 I always thought I was getting my
6:31 picture taken. No, it's not real. It's a
6:33 facade. This one, I think, is the only
6:36 one not based out of California. It was
6:38 New York City and it was imitated after
6:42 something called the McGra building. And
6:44 the color scheme is different, but the
6:46 stripes and doorway and windows
6:49 identical. At 6600 Hollywood Boulevard
6:53 sits a wig shop. The color of the
6:55 building is a little different, but
6:57 everything else still looks the same as
6:59 its California counterpart, including
7:02 these little emblems up top, the
7:05 windows, the front door.
7:09 Very cool. at 3451 West 6th Street sits
7:14 a former market and they have designed
7:17 this very close in
7:20 detail down to the shingles and the
7:24 little square roof formation as you turn
7:28 off of Hollywood Boulevard onto Sunset
7:32 sits this building which used to be in
7:35 California a place called the Ivy
7:38 substation. Okay, hang out with us. And
7:40 the front of this is based
7:43 off of that building. What I find
7:44 incredible is the fact that the little
7:47 awning where the rain pours off the roof
7:50 looks the same, as well as this
7:53 secondary level. You know, the windows
7:55 are a little bit different, but the
7:56 front door looks the same. And also
7:59 tucked in behind these trees,
8:01 unbeknownst to almost everyone, is a
8:03 billboard for the Hollywood Tower Hotel.
8:06 Look at that thing dilapidated at 3141
8:09 West
8:10 Manchester since the old Academy
8:12 Theater. It was built for the Academy
8:14 Awards, but it never panned out and they
8:17 never hosted the ceremony there. And it
8:20 looks down to the font
8:24 exactly. They look exactly like each
8:26 other, which is amazing. 507 Wilshshire
8:30 Boulevard. And this is just a sample of
8:33 what the real building looks like. But
8:35 this little glass part looks the same.
8:38 The door and this little
8:40 awning. Can't deny it. The old Lena
8:43 Theater was the inspiration for what is
8:46 now Planet Hollywood. Especially when
8:48 you look at this, man. That is so so
8:52 cool. And of course, they've added the
8:54 Globe here in Florida, but everything
8:57 else looks the same. Not to be confused
8:59 with White Castle, the burger place, but
9:01 there used to be a place called White
9:03 Tower, and that is what this is modeled
9:06 after. Down to the light and lamp posts
9:09 that are dangling off the side and the
9:12 window formation all the way up in
9:14 Northern California in the city of
9:16 Oakland at 1900 Telegraph Avenue used to
9:20 be a floral place and that's where they
9:22 based this on. The detail is very
9:25 incredible down to the little nooks and
9:27 crannies and the, you know, the little
9:29 pillars on the side of the windows and
9:31 stuff. Man, that's amazing how much time
9:33 and effort they put into creating these.
9:36 I don't know where Micah went, though. I
9:38 lost him. Oh, there he is. I was
9:39 wondering where you went. They don't
9:40 even sell flowers in there. No, no, it's
9:42 a recreation. This isn't the original.
9:44 It's a
9:45 recreation at 9169 Sunset Boulevard in
9:49 West Hollywood was the inspiration for
9:52 this. And I think this is the first one
9:54 we've come across on Sunset here in
9:57 Florida that is based on one on Sunset
10:01 Boulevard in California. And that's
10:04 pretty cool. Mouse about town. You
10:08 wouldn't think they would take this
10:09 little teeny tiny space and model it
10:11 after something, but at 132 West
10:14 Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, they
10:17 have taken that structure and turned it
10:21 into this one. Although it's not a
10:24 particular address per se, there is a
10:27 little homage to Anaheim and Disneyland
10:31 area here as well in this produce stand
10:34 at 12 East Colorado Boulevard in
10:38 Pasadena sits this building. And the
10:42 thing that's really awesome about the
10:44 structure here at Hollywood Studios, if
10:47 you look up top, you will see the
10:50 formation of flowers across the
10:54 mural decor on top. It's almost
10:58 identical down to the little like every
11:00 little
11:02 detail as the one in California. And
11:05 they've even thrown another homage to
11:07 Muscle Beach. Venice Beach. That's
11:10 right.
11:11 That's right. That's where Anie That's
11:12 where Annie That's right. Yeah, that's
11:14 right. That's where Come on. That's
11:15 where I got That's where I got pumped
11:17 up. Right there. Come on. At 171 South
11:21 Aoyo
11:22 Parkway is a building now that sits
11:26 pretty much empty used as a storage shed
11:28 that this building was taken inspiration
11:31 from. The really cool thing is these
11:33 metal poles up
11:35 top. They're there in California. Also,
11:39 this one was based on an old Warner
11:42 Brothers theater that has been torn
11:44 down. It's interesting that they would
11:47 have something that is Warner Brothers
11:50 related at a Disney park. This is not WB
11:55 territory, but it looks pretty much
11:58 identical. Well, as identical as you can
12:00 get to an old black and white photo, but
12:02 pretty freaking awesome. And yes, even
12:06 this fountain is a miniature
12:09 reproduction of a bigger one as well. Oh
12:13 no, not again. They just will not give
12:24 up. At 6382 Hollywood Boulevard sits
12:24 this building. And it used to be a
12:27 drugstore by the name of Owl Drug. The
12:30 only difference is the pillar on top is
12:34 on the opposite side of the real
12:36 version, but everything else is
12:38 completely
12:40 identical. At 2417 Dolly Street sits the
12:45 old municipal light, water, and power
12:47 building, but here it's called Taylor's
12:51 to the stars. The coloration is a little
12:54 bit different, but if you look up top,
12:57 you will see a little plate mural. Well,
12:59 here it says Disney Hollywood Studios,
13:02 the one and only Mel's Diner just off
13:04 Hollywood Boulevard, was used as the
13:06 inspiration for this pink building. The
13:10 door
13:11 archway pretty much looks the same,
13:13 except the the building's a little
13:15 narrower here in Florida as it is to the
13:18 west coast. Many years ago, there was a
13:20 place called the Wilshshire Bowl, and
13:22 you could actually bowl inside. At least
13:25 I think you could. The building has been
13:27 gone for a long time and the only tidbit
13:30 left are photos of it or this recreation
13:34 here at Hollywood Studios. A little
13:36 homage to bowling. I wonder if she's
13:39 going bowling. Are you going bowling?
13:42 Yes. I would love to. All right. I got a
13:45 date. I got a bowling date. You do? I
13:48 got to find one. Where's Abby? That's
13:49 the way most of my dates work. They say
13:51 yes and then they just drive off into
13:53 the sunset Boulevard in this case.
13:55 located at 6424 Santa Monica Boulevard
13:59 is the inspiration for the Disney and
14:03 Company structure which is made famous
14:06 on opening day when Michael Eisner and
14:09 B. Midler drove right past it. Man, this
14:12 place is cool. You see Pluto up there
14:15 chilling on top of the roof and in the
14:16 window there is a sign stating Lindapaw
14:20 Pet Clinic which is kind of funny
14:22 because it's based on a real pet clinic
14:24 or at least used to be a very long time
14:27 ago located at 940 North Highland Avenue
14:31 and instead of a Dalmatian we got Pluto
14:34 up there. I don't know what do you
14:36 think's better, a Dalmatian or Pluto?
14:39 Both of them have a Disney relation, but
14:41 I think Pluto is a little more
14:43 recognizable. There used to be a former
14:45 bank located at
14:47 5209 Wilshshire. And the only difference
14:50 between both coasts, the really the only
14:53 difference is the fact that there are
14:55 just one pillar shy here in Florida. But
14:59 the door is in the same spot and the
15:01 little gold emblems near the top of the
15:04 roof and the lighting, all that's the
15:07 same. The Bane building is located at
15:11 6601 Hollywood
15:13 Boulevard. And they even have the
15:15 upstairs apartments with the awnings and
15:18 the walkways. And the thing that's
15:20 really cool about this is the front
15:23 door, the way it kind of
15:25 like fonses its way upward. Walk back
15:29 over to Echo Lake. Now on that side
15:32 there is this really cool building which
15:36 you cannot look up on Google Earth. This
15:38 is the old Mayan theater and it's inside
15:42 that they took the exterior facade in
15:46 Florida is based on the California
15:48 interiors. One thing that's really neat
15:51 about this is the fact that there is an
15:53 ATM in between these two wild and crazy
15:57 snakes. At 6926 Melrose Avenue is what
16:02 they formulated this dentistry building
16:05 to look like. I think they just used
16:07 half of the OG building to create this
16:10 one. But there's no denying that is
16:12 definitely it. Here at Peeve's, you can
16:15 get drinks and it's themed around the
16:17 Rocketeer. But in real life, it is a
16:20 fire station. Fire station number one in
16:22 Lincoln Heights,
16:25 California. Pretty freaking cool how the
16:28 architecture
16:30 matches something halfway across well
16:33 all the way in fact across the country.
16:35 Okay, and the last one to present to you
16:38 is actually based in San Francisco, not
16:41 in Los Angeles. 200 Powell Street. And
16:45 the color formation is a little bit
16:48 different, but the way the windows are
16:50 and the metal awnings over the windows
16:53 and the formation of the way the like
16:55 nooks and crannies appear. Yeah, that's
16:58 pretty much it. Looks like Gertie is
17:00 exuding smoke from its nose. And with
17:05 all that smoky goodness bestuning into
17:07 the heavens, I think it is now time to
17:09 say vlog
17:20 over. Oh yeah, one last thing. Even
17:20 though I lived in California for a year
17:21 and a half and I pass a lot of those
17:23 locations and I've been going to MGM for
17:27 so many years and I knew a lot of those
17:29 spots, there were a couple places that
17:31 were really difficult to find and I
17:35 stumbled on a really cool website called
17:38 yesterland.com and I found the one or
17:40 two buildings that I could not use my
17:43 Columbbo like research skills to
17:46 find. So check that website out. It's
17:48 really cool.
