Welcome everyone. Adam the Woo here. I'm
0:03
standing in front of my chiropractic
0:05
clinic. Adamson, that is if I was in the
0:08
Karate Kid and Mr. Miyagi
0:12
so adorned me to actually own a
0:15
chiropractic center, he would say,
0:17
"Adamson,
0:20
massage on,
0:22
massage
0:24
off." It's my second channel, daily vlog
0:26
channel. It's the daily woo. I am coming
0:28
to you from the San Fernando. Is it San
0:31
Fernando Valley? San Gabriel Valley, I
0:36
believe is actually where I am in a
0:37
little area by the name of Monrovia,
0:40
California. Got a little confused there
0:42
because I kind of butchered that Mr.
0:44
Miyagi joke. Danielson Adamson. It's my
0:48
second channel, daily vlog channel. It's
0:50
the daily woo. I think I may have done
0:51
that twice. I am very, very confused. I
0:53
have not had the proper amount of
0:55
caffeinated beverages this morning. But
0:57
as I drive around Southern California,
1:00
as I cruise through this very majestic,
1:02
awesome area known as Monrovia,
1:05
California, which is one of my favorite
1:07
areas, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, Arcadia,
1:12
this whole area of Southern California
1:15
and Los Angeles is probably my favorite
1:17
area as you make your way towards
1:19
Pasadena. And there's something very
1:21
fantastic that I saw off to the side of
1:22
the road that I've actually passed in
1:24
the past. That's a lot of paths. That's
1:27
a lot of passing. And that's a lot of
1:29
passing in the past. And I have passed
1:31
this place before, numerous times in the
1:34
past. I've always wanted to vlog it. And
1:35
today, I'm actually going to do so. What
1:37
am I referring to? I'm talking about a
1:39
building that was actually built in 1924
1:42
on the original Route 66. Of course,
1:45
Route 66 goes from Chicago, Illinois to
1:50
Los Angeles, California. It actually
1:52
ends at the Santa Monica Pier. This road
1:55
here was the original Route 66. And as
1:58
we all know, along Route 66 are many
2:00
roadside attractions, weird, wacky
2:03
creations as far as constructions, and
2:05
the way buildings are built. And this is
2:08
no exception. This building was This
2:09
building was built in 1924,
2:12
and it's actually called the Aztec
2:15
Hotel. It actually closed in 2012, and
2:18
businesses have actually taken over
2:20
where the hotel once was. But the
2:22
exterior, the fantastic facade of the
2:26
hotel still exists. Are you ready for
2:29
this? Say hello, not to my little
2:32
friend, but to the I'm doing a little
2:34
Scarface reference there. Say hello to
2:36
my little friend. It's the Aztec Hotel.
2:53
This is what they call Mayan
2:53
architecture. There were actually a lot
2:55
of buildings in that time period built
2:57
with this actual kind of construction in
3:01
mind. And we're actually going to get up
3:02
a little bit closer and actually take a
3:04
closer view at this fantastic building.
3:07
Now, as you're driving along, this
3:09
actually sticks out. Not really like a
3:12
sore thumb, but more like a fantastic
3:15
thumb. A thumb that if you were to see
3:18
it, you would go, that is one heck of a
3:20
nice thumb. And that is basically what
3:23
we are dealing with here. We are
3:25
actually on the corner of Magnolia
3:28
Avenue
3:29
and Foothill Boulevard. You can see the
3:32
sign there, Foothill Boulevard and
3:34
Magnolia Avenue. And of course, City of
3:38
Monrovia. And look at that mountain
3:40
range off in the distance. Does anyone
3:43
know what mountain range that is off in
3:47
the background? If you do, please leave
3:49
a comment down below. Now, we are going
3:50
to cross the road here. This original
3:53
Route 66 as traffic sits and actually
3:56
watches us pass. Look at this. The
3:58
traffic's actually not so bad for being
4:00
in the greater Los Angeles area. This is
4:02
actually not so bad. Of course, the
4:04
freeway is about a quarter of a mile
4:06
that way or a mile that way. It is a
4:08
whole different story at this time of
4:10
day on the freeway, let me assure you.
4:12
Which is one of the reasons I veered off
4:14
to actually get away from the
4:15
bumperto-bumper rush hour traffic. And I
4:18
made a good decision because I stumbled
4:20
upon once again I stumbled upon this.
4:23
And there's actually C3PO and R2-D2 have
4:26
taken over have taken over the Aztec
4:30
hotel. But just look at the construction
4:32
of this. Look at look at the way the
4:35
colors are and look at the stained glass
4:37
windows here. Aztec shop here. Aztec
4:42
coffee shop which of course now is a
4:44
comic book shop. But you can imagine if
4:48
these walls could talk the stories that
4:51
this building could tell. Once a hotel,
4:55
people traveling cross country or
4:57
through California needed a place to
4:59
stay for the night. They would actually
5:00
rent a room. And you can see all the
5:02
rooms up there are completely empty now.
5:04
And if you listen closely, there's a
5:05
little bit of construction happening. Oh
5:07
my gosh, look at that balcony.
5:10
That is super awesome. Look at that
5:12
balcony. That is definitely a relic
5:16
of construction goodness right there.
5:19
Look at that.
5:21
Wow.
5:27
Actually, let's check around the back
5:27
and actually see what the back of the
5:29
building looks like.
5:31
So, there's the back. Look at this
5:34
fantastic house around the backside as
5:36
well. You can see the little drainage
5:38
pipes where the water when it
5:40
accumulates on the roof will actually
5:41
come out the side of those holes and
5:44
dump off. But just look at this. The top
5:46
of the drain pipe, the way that is
5:50
decorated and decored. Here's the inside
5:52
of the windows.
6:01
I would not classify this place as
6:01
abandoned because it's not abandoned.
6:02
They're actually using it and
6:04
repurposing it. And hopefully for some
6:06
Oh, listen. You can hear someone up top
6:08
there with a drill doing some kind of
6:11
maintenance and some kind of work up
6:12
there. Look at What do you think this
6:14
is? Look at this.
6:16
What the heck is that? Does anyone know
6:20
what the heck that was?
6:28
All right, let's go around the front.
6:28
That is where the majesty of this place
6:31
really pops out. Really shines. Anyone
6:33
driving down the road that has never
6:35
been down this road actually sees this
6:36
and thinks, "Man, that is a very, very
6:38
cool place. What is that?" Well, I will
6:41
tell you exactly what it is. I told you
6:43
before, but I will tell these cars as
6:44
they are passing by. The next car that
6:46
passes by, I will tell them, "Hey, Jeep.
6:48
Hey Jeep, this is the Aztec
6:53
hotel.
6:55
Very cool. And look at this. Now there
6:58
is a salon here. There is a barber shop
7:01
there. There is me. Look at me right
7:03
there wearing my fisherman the fridge
7:04
shirt and Michael Jackson button.
7:07
Wearing my Michael Jackson button there.
7:09
And of course my nice blazer,
7:13
which I think is fitting for how awesome
7:16
this place look. Look at the sign. The
7:18
old neon sign up there. The old neon
7:21
sign right here. Look at that.
7:25
Relics of the past. And look at this
7:28
chandelier.
7:34
Look at that chandelier. That's awesome.
7:34
You can still see there are actually
7:36
real candles.
7:38
No, actually they're not real candles.
7:40
They're actually fake candles, but they
7:41
look like real candles. And then the
7:43
lights, the actual light bulbs are on
7:46
top of those.
7:47
But here it is, the old Aztec Hotel. Oh
7:50
my gosh. Look inside here.
7:55
The lobby of this place is awesome. I'm
7:58
going to try to get my camera through
7:59
these bars so you could actually see the
8:01
lobby. You can actually see the lobby
8:03
here.
8:10
[snorts] Might be kind of tough.
8:10
Might be kind of tough to see the lobby.
8:30
Okay, I had to squeeze you in that
8:30
little hole right there. So, I just
8:31
squeezed you in that hole. Hopefully,
8:33
you could see the inside the lobby, but
8:34
it's very awesome. There are actually
8:36
murals upon the sides of the walls in
8:39
the lobby. Man, it would be awesome if
8:41
we could get in here. But the door the
8:43
door is actually locked. Maybe one day I
8:46
could actually get in there. Of course,
8:47
we could could just trigger the fire
8:50
alarm. And I don't know if that would
8:52
actually help or if that would actually
8:53
bring the landlord to the front to
8:55
actually let us in. But look at these
8:57
old tables out front as well. Look at
9:00
this.
9:02
That is awesome.
9:04
That is super super cool. I love the
9:06
windows. I love these lights.
9:10
And just look at this.
9:12
You do not see this every day. How often
9:14
do you drive through your little town
9:17
and see a building that looks like this?
9:20
Very rarely, I assure you. This is a
9:24
piece of history here in Morovia,
9:26
California, the greater Los Angeles
9:28
area. It's the Aztec Hotel. Just look at
9:32
that. That is awesome. Have a great day.
