0:10 you

0:24 Welcome everyone. Today I'm joined by
0:24 Jeffrey Howard of kickbite.net. This is
0:27 him right here. We're swinging in
0:30 complete synchronization.
0:32 And the reason we're doing that is in
0:34 honor of the 1985 classic movie Daryl.
0:41 We're really happy to have you with us,
0:43 Daryl. Do you know what Daryl stands
0:46 for? I sure do. Tell me. Data analyzing
0:51 robot youth life for. Data analyzing
0:54 robot youth life form. Even though it's
0:58 an 80s classic and loved by many,
1:00 including me, it cost 16 million to
1:02 make. How much was the box office? I
1:05 would estimate 30 million. What was it
1:07 really? Try about eight. What?
1:11 Try about eight. What? Try about.
1:15 Relax, Howie. I was only kidding about
1:18 the money.
1:23 Now for something really amazing, ladies
1:23 and gentlemen. Right there.
1:26 Right where my tripod is pointing is the
1:29 house that Daryl lived in.
1:31 Let's approach. There's definitely been
1:34 some trees that have been sprouted up
1:36 since the movie. But you look straight
1:38 ahead. Look at the number on the door.
1:40 Same door.
1:43 Same numbers, same everything. 716. I'm
1:47 Jeffrey Stewart. This is my wife, Emma.
1:50 There. That window was the window that
1:51 Daryl would have been playing piano in
1:54 and the camera would have panned out
1:56 this way.
2:12 His room was up there.
2:12 That lantern there can actually be seen.
2:16 That lantern can actually be seen in the
2:17 shots. Of course, it's grown over now.
2:20 The car comes down this road at one
2:21 point, passes this batch of trees, pulls
2:24 into the driveway right there
2:37 in this area where I shouldn't be
2:37 walking is where Daryl would have been
2:40 standing.
2:42 And let's look this way.
2:45 Does that look familiar to you in the
2:46 movie at all? You got to grip the bat
2:48 pretty firmly. You Daryl would have hit
2:51 the ball right over there. It would have
2:52 hit the door. You can see this house
2:54 here on the left. This would have been
2:56 an empty little field.
3:05 That was Turtle's house right there.
3:05 When his sister showed up on the moped
3:07 with the boyfriend, they would have rode
3:09 right down here and turned into here.
3:11 This was not paved, but you can see that
3:13 little concrete slab there. It was still
3:15 there. He was up there looking through
3:17 his window.
3:25 One of my favorite moments in Daryl
3:25 happened right here when he came running
3:27 out of the door and he was looking over
3:28 our direction.
3:57 These are the two trees right here where
3:57 they had their little conversation.
3:59 Camera angle that you see in the movie
4:01 was actually way down here. See if I can
4:03 jump down here without killing myself.
4:07 So down here is where the camera angle
4:09 would have been. right here in the
4:10 water. They would have had the camera
4:12 set up and the camera angle would have
4:14 been something like this. Come down here
4:16 and just sit right on the edge of this.
4:18 Let's Let's pretend you're either Daryl
4:20 or Turtle. Who do you want to be? I'm
4:22 the skinny one, so I'll be Daryl. You're
4:24 Daryl. Well, the doctor said maybe my
4:27 memory could come back suddenly. Only no
4:30 one really knows.
4:32 Ow, that's uncomfortable.
4:34 But this is it. This is the spot. Pretty
4:37 excited. This is the view they had.
4:39 That's an emotional moment right there.
4:42 It's an emotional moment even for a
4:44 robot. We better get back. Want to come
4:46 over to my house?
4:48 We're real nice to her. Maybe Hookie
4:50 will let us play with a new computer.
4:52 Okay. Who's Hookie? My sister Sher Lee.
4:57 Hookie. Amateur Hooker. She dates every
5:00 night. I just invented the name. It
5:02 really pisses her off. Right down here
5:04 is the ATM where the ATM was. And then
5:08 Daryl would have been putting the card
5:10 in.
5:12 You got it. Terrific. Give me a hundred.
5:16 Right over there is where the baseball
5:18 team was and their car would have been
5:19 parked. All that building in the
5:21 background is completely different. You
5:23 come here. I'm going to bat you fourth.
5:26 Okay. You can really tell is this shot
5:29 here. You can see this molding and all
5:31 is still very, very similar. The ATM
5:34 would have been right there.
5:36 Daryl would have turned around and
5:37 walked away. Thank you for using the
5:39 time machine. You're welcome.
5:42 The First Bankers look forward to
5:44 serving you again. If you listen
5:46 closely, the ATM voice is actually done
5:49 by the same actor that played
5:52 the adopted dad.
5:56 serving you again. Yeah, well, some of
5:58 us stiffs got to work for a living, you
6:00 know, not like some guys I know. The
6:02 first bankers look forward to serving
6:04 you again. There was actually some oak
6:06 trees here that are now gone. All that
6:08 looks different, but that's where the
6:10 car would have pulled up right up there
6:11 on the grass to let Daryl out.
6:26 This is the school Daryl would have got
6:26 out in Turtle. I'm going to show him in
6:29 standing right over in this area here.
6:32 They were gone into the school.
6:35 It's okay, Joyce. I'll take him in. Oh,
6:38 I think Daryl might You want a kid to
6:40 show up for his first day at school with
6:41 his mother? See, in those windows was
6:44 where the shots where Daryl was grading
6:46 the paper and the teacher was giving him
6:47 some flack for being too smart. What do
6:49 you think you're doing?
6:52 Changing the answers on somebody else's
6:54 paper. I'm correcting them as you asked.
6:57 But I haven't given you the answers yet.
7:05 One of the most memorable scenes in the
7:05 movie happened right over here at the
7:07 baseball field. The field has been
7:10 revamped a little bit and these fences
7:11 are actually a little bit newer. But in
7:13 1985,
7:15 something magical happened right here.
7:17 Right over here is where the two coaches
7:19 meet and they shake hands. Right there
7:22 before, guys. Right. Come on.
7:27 Yo, pull. Good luck.
7:36 You ever played ball before? Can it?
7:36 Fence was a lot smaller, but over this
7:38 exact spot right here is where Daryl hit
7:40 the home run. He went over this fence
7:42 and look straight that way. That's where
7:45 the ball would have bounced. Right there
7:46 beside that tree and towards that house.
7:56 Do you remember the first time you saw
7:56 Daryl hit the home run when you were a
7:58 kid? 1985 seeing it in the movie
8:00 theater. What was your feelings when you
8:02 first saw that? I like a good home run.
8:06 You know where it happened, right? Right
8:08 here. Right where? Right here. No, right
8:11 behind me.
8:14 You seem stoked.
8:17 Another one of my favorite scenes
8:18 happened right here. It's when the coach
8:20 just saw Daryl hit his first home run
8:22 and he was making that crazy laugh right
8:25 there.
8:27 Daryl. You have to run.
8:37 Right about there is where Turtle would
8:39 have given Daryl his advice about
8:41 grown-ups. The famous speech right
8:44 there. Daryl, I've been meaning to give
8:46 him my speech about grown-ups. It's a
8:48 great speech. There's an extra in the
8:50 movie that makes a really spectacular
8:52 face right here.
9:05 See the baseball field in the back and
9:05 Jeffrey standing right in the exact spot
9:07 where Daryl would have been standing and
9:09 stopped by the adopted mom. It's right
9:11 there. She would have had the little
9:13 conversation with him. Right there.
9:15 Point where you're at.
9:18 That's where it is.
9:20 Sweetheart,
9:22 there's uh there's something we No, too
9:25 short. There's something uh we need to
9:28 talk about. You'll notice I'm wearing my
9:30 Darth Vader Star Wars shirt. Like Darth
9:32 Vader, Daryl was actually half robotic
9:35 and half human. But he didn't have a
9:37 dark side. Jeffrey that's holding the
9:39 camera, he does have a dark side.
9:42 Turtle, you represent the winning run,
9:45 Turtle. The winning run.
9:49 Nice.
9:55 After they won the game, they all
9:56 cheered and yelled and ran right across.
9:58 They are behind the fence and they
10:00 jumped on top of the shoulders of each
10:02 other. You're only
10:16 with me. We're going to reenact the
10:18 walking scene. You can see this house in
10:21 the background is exactly the same. We
10:24 just won the game.
10:26 Byebye.
11:04 Check that out. It's the military
11:04 compound.
11:09 Heat.
11:39 The police chase actually started right
11:41 down this road. In fact, you can see
11:43 that weld right sign. It says hitches
11:46 and welding. You can see that in the
11:47 shot.
11:50 Car would have drove right out of there
11:52 and gone this way.
12:02 So, basically right where I'm walking
12:02 about to get hit by a car, that car is
12:03 honking at me. So, I'm in the middle of
12:05 the road trying to recreate a Daryl
12:07 scene. That car was not very happy about
12:09 it. In fact, you can see all this here
12:11 in the shot.
12:18 They drive right by here. There's some
12:18 billboards here on the right. You can
12:20 actually see that driveway in the shot.
12:22 I'm going to walk over here and try to
12:23 get a better view for it. Trying to do a
12:26 little uh little hitchhiking here.
12:30 Having any luck? Go. Show a little left.
12:34 Show a little left.
12:38 Pull it over, doctor.
12:40 Move your vehicle to the curb. Turn on
12:42 to the freeway. I repeat, move your
12:46 vehicle to the curb. Move your vehicle
12:48 to the curb. Take the freeway, please.
13:00 Cars in Daryl. Speaking of the police,
13:00 there goes one there. He's not chasing
13:02 Daryl, but we are. Well, and that's
13:04 where the car with Daryl
13:06 would have gone right over that little
13:07 awning there.
13:15 We're going have to climb up over this.
13:15 Climb that fence and try to get the
13:20 Uh the links you go to right over this
13:23 way is where the toll road was. The car
13:25 would have pulled right up there.
13:27 They've actually revamped it a lot. Now
13:29 it's a lot nicer. That's where the
13:31 little car would have blocked all the
13:32 police officers.
13:40 This is where the car the police chase
13:40 is going to end as the car is going to
13:42 come down the on-ramp
13:48 down the on-ramp which has now been torn
13:50 down and then where they go this way
13:53 right over here to the ABC formerly
13:55 known as
14:02 So this is the hospital where Daryl
14:02 would have been pronounced dead. The
14:04 family would have drove out from right
14:06 over here down this road.
14:21 But he can't die. There was a robot.
14:21 Robots don't die.
14:35 Cue the 80s awesome ending credit music.
14:53 Join us.
