0:03 Welcome everyone. Adam the Woo here.
0:03 Today is going to be
0:07 majestic. See what I did there? It's my
0:10 second channel, daily vlog channel. It's
0:12 the daily woo. This is a really cool old
0:15 theater. I'm standing on the curb in San
0:17 Antonio, Texas. And you really cannot
0:20 stop off down here without paying a
0:24 visit to history, the Alamo. And this is
0:29 the subject of the last tattoo I ever
0:31 got. It is right there located on my
0:35 arm. I am not going inside today. I'm
0:37 going to be in the Austin San Antonio
0:40 region for the next week or two. And I'm
0:42 saving this for a later date. But did
0:45 you know that this was the only location
0:47 from Peewee's Big Adventure that was not
0:49 filmed in Southern California? One shot
0:51 of Paul Rubin holding a map walking
0:54 inside those doors. Wonder if they flew
0:57 here specifically just for that one
0:59 scene. And as cliche as it is, it's
1:02 always funny to
1:03 wonder where the heck is the basement.
1:07 Look inside this window here across the
1:10 street. It's like a miniature golf
1:12 course and there's a jeep with some
1:14 skeletons. That's the undead up there.
1:18 Stay away from those guys. They mean
1:21 trouble. It's not too often that an Uber
1:24 driver drops someone off at a
1:28 cemetery, but that's what he just did on
1:31 the outskirts of town. Sometimes finding
1:33 a place to park Large Marge in a bigger
1:36 city is very difficult. So, I opted to
1:38 take rides today to some of the spots I
1:41 want to show you. And this one is an
1:44 interesting one. On March 10th, 1977, a
1:47 woman by the name of Sandra West, a
1:50 resident of Los Angeles, but whose
1:53 family were oil tycoons here in Texas,
1:57 passed away. She outlived her husband by
1:59 9 years. But when she died, there was a
2:02 very peculiar stipulation in her will.
2:06 Her request was to be moved from
2:08 California here to Texas and laid to
2:11 rest in the family plot. That doesn't
2:14 seem too unusual, right? Oh, there's one
2:15 thing I forgot to add. She wanted to be
2:17 buried in her 1964 blue
2:21 Ferrari. That's where the twist is. But
2:23 her brother-in-law, who was the sole
2:26 inheritor, he passed away in
2:28 2012, did not approve of this idea. In
2:31 fact, he tried very hard to make this a
2:35 nonreality, going to court for two
2:37 months just to get out of it. But she
2:41 got the last laugh in the will. If he
2:44 did not obey her wishes, he would not
2:46 get the $2 million. Instead, he would
2:49 only get $10,000. And while $10,000 is
2:53 nothing to turn your nose up at, I think
2:55 all of us would think about $2
2:59 million. Bury her in the car. Her body
3:02 and her car were then transported here.
3:07 A very large hole was dug right in that
3:12 spot and the car was lowered nine feet
3:15 into the ground and then covered in
3:19 concrete as to asssure no one would ever
3:22 be able to steal it. The crane was
3:25 stationed there and they had to hoist
3:28 the incredibly heavy
3:31 box right
3:33 down into the ground there. And the
3:37 interesting thing is that was not the
3:39 only unusual fact about this. She also
3:43 wanted to be buried in a sexy
3:46 neglig with the seat tilted back for
3:51 comfort. If you were just casually
3:53 walking through the grounds, you would
3:55 have no idea that right here is a
4:00 car underneath the earth in this exact
4:10 spot. No clue
4:10 whatsoever that it's here. Sandra West,
4:13 1939 to 1977.
4:16 Even in
4:18 death, he made your wish a
4:27 reality. But holy cow, that's a weird
4:27 story. There's a legit vehicle right
4:31 there.
4:33 Hey, how are you? Yes, sir. How you
4:35 doing? All right. You were right. You
4:37 were right here. I was exactly. I bet
4:39 you were like, where'd he go? Where you
4:40 got here in about 3 seconds. It's like
4:42 some kind of crazy demon. They turn all
4:43 this into a hobby house. 13th floor.
4:46 Looks like something out of like the
4:47 movie Alien or something. Yep. It's
4:49 pretty wild. Does that train actually
4:50 work or is it just parked here? It's
4:52 actually one of the original trains that
4:55 were here when this is actual a real
4:58 train station. The driver was telling me
5:00 all kind of very interesting stories and
5:02 he told me to check out this place, the
5:05 Minger, which used to be a brothel
5:08 established in 1859.
5:21 This place is pretty incredible. What
5:21 about you, cigar store Indian? You seen
5:23 any
5:25 ghosts? Keep an eye out. Here's Bill
5:28 Clinton enjoying an ice cream treat here
5:30 on the premises. This is the courtyard
5:33 area. I would have never known this was
5:36 back behind the walls.
5:44 Be cool to stay here one day. You've
5:44 always been the
5:46 caretaker. They say there are 38 ghosts
5:50 here, making this the most haunted place
5:54 not only in
5:55 town, but in Texas. For those who visit
5:58 this location for the first time, it's
6:01 always a surprise to see how many
6:03 buildings are on the site of the Alamo.
6:07 The Alamo seems very small when in
6:10 reality it stretched out into the street
6:13 and the whole battle was all in this
6:15 area where all these shops, hotels, and
6:18 tourist buses now are. In fact, right
6:21 here on the same side as coffee shops
6:23 and Ripleys, believe it or not,
6:25 underneath this glass casing are some
6:29 relics as well. Even though most people
6:31 are going into that destination, it's
6:33 stretched all the way here where I'm
6:36 standing. And here are some foundations
6:38 of adobe bricks. Right down in there,
6:41 you can barely see them. They are
6:43 protected by that sheet of glass.
6:46 Underneath the town is a river and you
6:49 can walk along the edge of
6:51 it. It's pretty awesome down here. And
6:55 from the street view, you probably have
6:57 a hard time even realizing that this
6:59 existed. It's really hard not to look at
7:00 this and think of the 80s movie Cloak
7:02 and
7:03 Dagger. Classic. In the movie, the kid
7:05 from ET ran down these stairs. Look
7:08 totally different now, though. Many
7:09 years ago, I did the filming locations
7:11 of that movie, and I was in a real hurry
7:13 to try to find all the exact spots. It's
7:15 kind of nice to just have a peaceful
7:17 moment here along the
7:18 river. Take it all in. This guy over
7:21 here, he fell in the river. You can kind
7:24 of see him like kneeling down underneath
7:27 there. I think he's reaching for his
7:28 phone. He fell off the sidewalk into the
7:32 water.
7:39 That was that
7:39 was that would not be fun. The size of
7:42 this margarita is
7:45 incredible. The kid is enamored with it.
7:48 But he can't drink one of those for
7:50 another 19 years. The guys in the 20s,
7:53 the city wanted to take this river and
7:55 cover the entire thing in concrete. They
7:58 got tired of messing with the floods.
8:01 They just said, "Forget it. We're going
8:02 to build up with this whole thing.
8:04 Couple ladies from the conservation
8:06 society were able to convince the
8:08 leaders that have room going to this was
8:11 a good thing. Couple years later, Robert
8:13 Hugman come along, an architect, and he
8:16 designed the room.
8:26 You guys see the movie Miss Congeniality
8:26 with Cinder? The swim part of that was
8:28 built right here in stage.
8:31 This is built 1939.
8:34 This is a very popular place for folks
8:35 who get buried. This island is naturally
8:38 shaped like a heart.
8:41 This island is the root system to one
8:43 bald cypress tree. The roots grow
8:45 sideways. It's shallow to keep this tree
8:47 from drowning. These are bald cypress
8:49 trees. You find these things in any
8:51 river here in South Texas. Some of these
8:53 are two and 300 years old. If you look
8:55 up on the building, you can see there's
8:57 gargoyles up there.
8:59 gargoyles and water comes out of their
9:02 mouths. This crazy gate
9:05 gate closes down in case of a flood to
9:08 protect all the businesses from
9:10 flooding. Look at this. Like a huge
9:12 metal door. It ended in 1933. That bar
9:16 opened the next day.
9:18 I think the facade of that building was
9:21 used in a ZZ top video if I remember
9:24 correctly.
9:37 I have created an event page over on the
9:37 Adam theWoo Facebook and I have added
9:40 this flyer that was made by the good
9:42 people at the ThinkGeek store who are
9:44 hosting the meetup this Sunday, February
9:49 5th, starting precisely at 2:00 p.m. San
9:54 Antonio, Texas at the North Star Mall.
9:59 Hope to see you all there. Looking
10:01 forward to saying hello to everyone.
10:02 Bring your
10:03 cameras, bring yourself, bring your
10:06 friends. It's going to be a good
10:09 time. See you then. Vlog over.
