Zzyzx Road - ABANDONED - Mineral Springs Health Resort
http://www.AdamTheWoo.com - PLEASE SUBSCRIBE - In the middle of the Mohave Desert sits a strangely named road off the interstate. 5 miles down Zzyzx Road lies the former mineral springs and health resort created by Curtis Howe Springer . Parts of the land is now used for university desert research studies but a good portion of the past still remains. Enjoy !

Welcome everyone. I'm in the desert of
0:01
California today, right off of
0:03
Interstate 15. And perhaps if you have
0:05
traveled from Las Vegas to Los Angeles
0:07
or from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, you
0:10
have seen the sign for a very peculiar
0:13
named road. I'm talking about the sign
0:15
that states Ziz Road. In fact, you may
0:19
have actually gotten off the side of the
0:20
interstate, got out of your vehicle, and
0:22
taken a picture next to this said sign.
0:25
But did you ever wonder what lies at the
0:28
end of Ziz Road? I want to find out and
0:31
I'm inviting you to tag along with me.
0:33
Join me, shall you?
0:46
What's inside?
1:22
Zizzac Road was actually created by
1:22
Curtis Springer who called himself the
1:24
last of the oldtime medicine men. And
1:27
off in the distance, a couple miles down
1:29
Zizzac Road is actually the mineral
1:32
springs creation. The whole mecca of his
1:35
empire was right down there. The
1:37
National Medical Association gave him
1:39
the title king of the quacks, basically
1:41
labeling him a charlatan. When you think
1:43
of Doc Terminus from Peach Dragon, that
1:45
is the kind of person this was. He would
1:48
basically put together concoctions of
1:49
medicine. The problem is none of it
1:51
worked. And he actually took his scam a
1:54
step further, moved from Pennsylvania to
1:56
avoid taxes out here off the grid, if
1:59
you will, in the deserts of California
2:02
and created Zizzac Road. And why did he
2:04
choose the name Zizzac? the last letters
2:06
of the alphabet creating a very clever
2:09
catch line. The last name in medicine
2:14
and those mineral springs. His
2:16
empire still remains at least parts of
2:18
it. Right down this road. Let's carry
2:20
on. Walking on walking on walking on
2:24
broken
2:26
glass. Isn't that a song? Nice decor
2:30
leading into the springs. This road
2:33
obviously not used anymore. tree has
2:35
fallen in the path. But look at these
2:37
rocks here, these decorative rocks that
2:39
at one time signify the arrival to
2:42
something beautiful. During its peak,
2:45
this whole area was actually thriving.
2:47
There was an airport. There was a hotel
2:49
with a bunch of rooms. There was even a
2:51
church. A whole society was out here.
2:53
But then in the late 1960s, the feds
2:55
actually arrested him. He spent some
2:57
time in jail. And all of this came to an
3:00
end. He moved to Las Vegas in the mid
3:03
1980s. He actually passed away. But a
3:06
lot of his dream, his vision is still
3:09
here.
3:33
There's actually a boat right here in
3:33
the desert. And maybe you guys can
3:36
figure this out for me, but it looks
3:38
like there may have been a lake off in
3:41
the horizon at one point that is maybe
3:44
dried up now. Is that why this boat is
3:48
actually
3:49
here? Very peculiar.
4:02
Little bit of a
4:02
shipwreck.
4:04
Gilligan
4:11
skipper. Just sit right back and you'll
4:11
hear a
4:13
tail. Tale of a faithful trip that
4:17
started from a road named
4:19
Zizzik. out in the desert on
4:23
this nowhere near the Las Vegas
4:33
strip. Wow. They've actually put cinder
4:33
blocks all the way down so you can
4:35
actually walk out on this sand. I'm
4:38
wondering this used to be water at some
4:40
point and there's a chair and chairs way
4:44
out there basically sitting in the
4:46
middle of the
4:47
desert.
4:50
Awesome. It's very interesting when you
4:52
walk on this. You actually fall into it.
4:54
It's not like quicksand, but it's very
4:56
mushy and it actually surrounds your
4:59
feet. Look at this. It's very dusty. You
5:02
can kick it up. You can kick up the
5:04
dust. Do not know exactly what this is.
5:08
Very peculiar. Looks like we found the
5:11
old building that used to actually house
5:13
the mineral springs. Look at this. The
5:16
pool house is right here off the back of
5:19
the property. And the interesting thing
5:20
is they were not actually hot springs
5:23
from the earth. They were actually just
5:25
normal like bath water.
6:53
You can see this whole area no longer
6:53
has mineral water. It has swamp that has
6:56
developed and all the swamplike aspects.
7:00
I'm not really why this place shut down.
7:03
In fact, you could
7:05
say I'm
7:12
stumped. Such a bad joke. Oh, it
7:12
actually looks like there's part of the
7:14
old hotel
7:16
rooms right over there that are actually
7:18
lying there. Pretty much decayed and
7:21
abandoned. But check those out. Here's
7:23
something very interesting. This rock
7:24
formation is obviously naturally made
7:27
except for these rocks. What do you
7:30
think the symbolism is of these rocks
7:32
that were concreted into a large Rock.
8:16
Safe to say those power lines are
8:16
nonoperational after all this time.
8:18
There's the top of the
8:20
roof and the
8:23
terrain. There's actually a mirror in
8:25
here and someone has actually written
8:28
call mom help. Look, call
8:32
mom help. You can barely see it, but it
8:35
says, "Call
8:37
mom. Help,
8:39
mom. Help." Somehow, the toilet has been
8:43
uprooted from its original spot there,
8:46
and now its final resting spot, tucked
8:50
away in the corner. I guess it wouldn't
8:52
be the final resting spot if we moved
8:54
it, but I say we just leave it. Leave it
8:57
be. Rest in peace, toilet.

my daily vlog channel, The Daily Woo
9:17
YouTube/TheDaily Woo. I do a different
9:19
unedited vlog every single day. Luckily,
9:22
there are sections of the property out
9:24
here at the end of Ziz Road that are
9:26
actually being refurbished and used for
9:28
other purposes. But if you ever drive
9:30
out to Las Vegas or to Las Vegas back to
9:33
Los Angeles and you see the sign Ziz
9:36
Road, do not hesitate to drive the 5
9:39
miles to the end of the road and you can
9:41
actually see the old mineral springs.
9:43
Thanks for watching and I'll see you in
9:45
the next video. Goodbye.
9:52
It's pronounced zisix, not zizzix. Stop
9:52
saying it wrong. It's pronounced z.
