0:02 welcome everyone adam the woo here have
0:02 my clipboard
0:05 full of itemized screen captures
0:08 today's adventure i will be roaming
0:10 around to three different locations the
0:12 first
0:13 starting here on kohanga
0:16 you see the street sign located right up
0:19 there and there is a studio
0:21 just across the way here on this cross
0:23 street
0:25 that used to house the interior sets of
0:27 the andy griffith show i will show
0:29 this and then i will make my way to all
0:31 the exterior spots or at least
0:34 as many as i can procure and
0:37 figure out based on watching from the
0:40 first episode all the way through
0:42 season five which is when don knotts
0:45 left the show he came back as a couple
0:47 guest appearances but season one through
0:49 five
0:50 are arguably the best of the entire
0:53 series i have put i put a lot of time
0:56 into watching
0:57 researching and we'll see if it we'll
1:00 see if it helps
1:01 with the production of this episode i'm
1:02 inviting you to join me
1:04 shall you what is now red studios used
1:07 to be owned by desi lou
1:09 productions all the interiors
1:13 were inside this property as well as
1:15 some a few exteriors walking through
1:17 there
1:18 in the later years there was a hollywood
1:20 episode
1:24 that took place them walking through
1:24 these gates but also gomer pyle before
1:26 the spin-off
1:28 and there is that iconic sign up there
1:30 on top of the mountain
1:37 gotta love that hollywood trickery it
1:37 was not in
1:40 north carolina nope it was all
1:44 filmed in los angeles
1:55 they pulled a wool over our eyes now i'm
1:55 not gonna be able to get on site
1:58 but i'm walking around the back here to
2:01 lillian
2:02 way you can see it there
2:05 kind of protruding out of the shade into
2:08 the sun there is the
2:10 sign the 800 north block and if you
2:13 follow
2:15 around this corner some other television
2:18 history i don't want to
2:19 i don't want to dive into any other
2:22 any other shows but it should be noted
2:26 these were some of the audience doors
2:28 right down there
2:30 where i love lucy where guests would
2:34 would kind of line up to go in and watch
2:35 the show take place a little side note
2:38 in fact i do believe that this bracket
2:40 right up here is where
2:42 the signage from way back then used to
2:45 kind of
2:46 kind of dangle
2:50 another speaker up there but i digress
2:52 across
2:54 the way there is where the exteriors
2:57 of thelma lew's house would have sat
3:01 it's been they've been torn down they
3:03 were not sets they were real homes that
3:04 they would use they would utilize they
3:06 would rent
3:07 there were two or three and a couple
3:09 different episodes of sat right there
3:11 in fact i think there might even be some
3:13 telephone poles in the background we
3:14 could match up
3:16 for a brief moment you see the address
3:18 830
3:20 830 here on lillian way
3:24 let me just if i flip this around you
3:26 can see a
3:27 wider angle now the house is gone
3:30 however you'll see up here there is
3:33 a pole there and a pole there
3:37 this one looks the same this has been
3:39 the bottom portion
3:41 has been removed but both of those poles
3:44 are still
3:45 up there in the distance meaning
3:49 that 830 was right about there
3:53 and there was another home that they
3:54 utilized here
3:56 and another one off to its other side
4:05 but thelma loose her driveway would have
4:05 been right around here
4:06 a little bit of a closer angle there on
4:08 the one pole
4:10 that is prominent and the other pole
4:14 just past the newer one that has been
4:16 created
4:17 typed in the address to maps and it
4:20 shows
4:21 right there that little blue dot is
4:22 where i'm standing
4:25 the home would have been here
4:34 driveway there and barney came to visit
4:34 and those poles
4:37 right there
4:43 same angle if you recall one punch opie
4:43 where they break the light that
4:44 that pole was right here and of course
4:46 andy pulls up and then later later on
4:48 opie has to confront
4:50 his bully right there now over here what
4:53 is now
4:54 stage three right inside this very
4:57 structure
4:57 is where all uh every single episode of
5:00 the interiors took place
5:02 for a while this place kind of set
5:03 desolate and
5:05 and empty it's gone through a different
5:06 couple different incarnations different
5:08 studios have taken place
5:09 but there are interviews with andy
5:12 saying how it was in such bad shape that
5:14 between scenes the rain would when rainy
5:16 days
5:17 would pour down through the roof line
5:20 here it's now been converted into a
5:21 couple different sound stages but they
5:24 would just walk right
5:25 out of this south gate and then turn
5:29 to these homes here not a long commute
5:32 at all to thelma loose it's kind of
5:34 tough to wrap your head around just
5:36 think of any moments
5:37 from the show that are your favorites
5:39 you know some most of them were right
5:41 inside of that
5:42 that domed building that sound stage
5:44 just think of any of those
5:46 from one of you know one of the most
5:48 popular television shows of all time
5:50 right inside there i was approached by a
5:52 gentleman at the end of the block who's
5:54 he was watching over
5:55 the area kind of shared some of the info
5:58 with him as well he didn't even realize
6:01 you know the houses that had been taken
6:02 down on the other side so that pretty
6:04 much
6:05 that's pretty much the end of showing
6:07 the interior areas now it's time to
6:09 really
6:10 get into the exteriors got a little
6:12 traveling so not too far
6:13 but a little traveling even though it's
6:15 only about eight miles gonna take about
6:17 a half hour
6:18 give or take let's get moving i totally
6:21 agree big the foot it is very scenic
6:23 through here
6:29 these windy roads
6:29 we're almost there in some ways it
6:31 doesn't even feel like we're in the
6:33 greater los angeles area anymore
7:13 upper franklin canyon reservoir
7:13 listen closely you can hear some water
7:31 something very notable the intro to
7:31 every single show right around this
7:33 corner
7:40 straight ahead this very pathway
7:40 headed in this direction is where opie
7:43 and andy
7:50 director would have said action
7:50 walked along this path
7:58 just about where that picnic table is
7:58 over there
8:02 that's where opie threw the rock into
8:02 the water
8:17 pretty dang cool huh quite
8:17 a bit of foliage growth over the years
8:20 and decades can't really see down
8:23 into the waterway like you could back
8:25 then
8:26 a couple of different occasions they
8:28 utilize this in the early years
8:31 and then the last couple of seasons as
8:34 well
8:40 short sweet to the point nice theme song
8:40 whistled out everyone knows the tune
8:47 in your head right now you're hearing it
8:47 there's a pretty famous photograph of
8:49 behind the scenes
8:51 angle where they have the the camera
8:54 camera crew right here
8:55 and there was a big stump right about
9:08 right there and it's not just that this
9:08 area was used
9:09 pretty much for any sort of fishing
9:11 scene
9:12 or if any of the escapees
9:15 were kind of on the run the sheriff and
9:18 deputy would
9:19 always come out here to look for them
9:21 i'm gonna try to match up some of those
9:24 those spots now if you take this incline
9:27 path up these stairs
9:30 fairly certain something took place
9:34 right up here next to these poles as a
9:36 good frame of reference here's these
9:38 wood pieces that make up the railing
9:39 here are kind of panned back
9:41 you can see they're looking over towards
9:43 the lake for the guy in the boat
9:45 that's paddling across now this railing
9:50 seems to be pretty dated i don't think
9:53 that is the one in frame
9:55 i think it's more around this angle
9:58 and the railing on the other side
10:00 appears to be a little newer
10:02 so you can see really you can see the
10:04 age
10:05 and the wear on these pieces in fact
10:07 there's even some cobwebs
10:09 and some newer bolts but right
10:13 right about there there's don knotts
10:19 looking for their man from here you
10:22 wouldn't even realize there's a lake
10:23 down there
10:25 they eventually caught him in the end
10:28 and standing right here
10:29 looking back the other direction they
10:31 were at the base of a hill
10:33 and that hill is
10:36 that slight descent which means their
10:40 cruiser was there the three of them
10:42 standing right there next to it
10:44 i kind of backtracked just a bit around
10:47 this item
10:49 the rock skipping section is right over
10:53 and look at the formation of the
10:56 hillside of the mountains
10:58 now obviously grown up quite a bit
11:01 but there it is the same type of angle
11:04 downward and there he is going across
11:09 doing some paddling i'll get a little
11:11 closer i'm going to walk i'll walk
11:12 through the shrubs
11:14 to get to the what is now the shoreline
11:17 this would have all been submerged
11:33 i can hear some some ripples right
11:34 right over there that's as far as i can
11:35 go however now if i could go back in
11:37 time
11:38 i would be pegged in the noggin
11:42 by opie's pebble she would have been
11:45 punk you hear the water
11:49 the water's right there under those
11:57 weeds
11:57 very very grown over around the
11:59 shoreline just a bit
12:01 was over there but now get a better
12:04 perspective here
12:10 of the main reservoir well the upper
12:10 reservoir
12:12 the smaller of the two here in franklin
12:15 canyon
12:16 discovering that it is really difficult
12:18 to line up
12:19 trees and
12:22 where the water level was 50 over 50
12:26 plus years
12:27 after production but it was along
12:31 this edge where andy needed to get away
12:34 for a while had a little camping spot
12:36 also where the boys were re-enacting
12:39 robin hood and met the
12:42 met the gentleman who was staying away
12:45 from town
12:45 right over in there also the picnic
12:54 took place right on the corner down
12:55 gosh it is really tough though because
12:57 you can't even really
12:59 can't even go rooting around down in
13:00 there too much
13:05 a lot of those episodes you can see over
13:05 here in the background
13:08 you can kind of see the little
13:09 formations and the dirt paths
13:12 because the camera was usually set up
13:16 that way looking across the water
13:19 with these hills in the distance
13:26 in the hills behind me during the meal
13:26 when she decided to run for public
13:28 office
13:29 and andy disagreed she got up from the
13:32 little picnic area
13:33 and walked that direction
13:38 wouldn't be able to do that now lots of
13:41 lots of
13:41 thorns and prickly items down there
13:45 but off over there
13:49 is that opposite opposite shore
13:53 kind of scene there
14:00 where time changes a lot of things i had
14:00 been hoping to find these particular
14:02 trees
14:02 this was used on more than one occasion
14:05 a number of episodes
14:07 where they walked up they walked up a
14:09 hill
14:10 and you can kind of look over there the
14:12 way that formation is
14:15 is more or less that now
14:18 trees could have been you know in a
14:20 storm blown down a fire
14:23 this seems to be the spot the only other
14:26 option would be
14:27 right over here there are a few but it
14:29 seems to be a
14:31 larger cluster i was also thinking
14:35 that maybe they were up there on the
14:36 side of that looking downward
14:39 but there is nowhere to really get
14:41 camera gear up there
14:42 and if they were using that in a number
14:44 of different
14:46 different episodes in the series would
14:49 be
14:50 very difficult which means the road i am
14:53 on
14:54 here would have to be below where his
14:57 campfire was
14:58 looking looking that way that's a toughy
15:01 here's another angle just a few feet
15:03 away this is also a possibility
15:06 look at the very hazy mountain lion
15:10 up at the top and that would be
15:13 basically the same kind of angle
15:15 but a lot of growth and
15:18 a lot have fallen this is proving the
15:21 point that
15:22 things don't always stand the test of
15:25 when barney doesn't realize that andy
15:27 isn't the criminal he jumps
15:29 jumps on top of him and he can't once
15:31 again using the
15:33 the background there of the hillside
15:37 and you can see some of the rocks down
15:40 there as well
15:41 but gosh could those be those rocks
15:45 it's a good possibility but
15:49 no real way of knowing this is the best
15:52 possible
15:55 guess right there such a funny scene
16:00 and barney finally realizes he had
16:02 caught andy and not the crook
16:04 even though not everything can be
16:05 pinpointed in this day and age
16:08 it is nice to know that the same types
16:10 of look at the branches there
16:12 which also leads me to wonder
16:15 maybe maybe that's the tree maybe the
16:19 angle was
16:19 a little more like that running along
16:23 that
16:23 section
16:36 there's even more of those even that
16:36 might even be it after
16:38 five plus decades of growth this
16:41 concrete embankment was placed here in
16:43 1940 i was reading the placard back
16:51 and i have a nice little feeling
16:51 that a spot up here still exists there
16:53 was a worker
16:55 doing some maintenance on the electrical
16:56 poles and just so happened
16:59 to also be climbing around in the trees
17:02 and opie ended up befriending him
17:08 went home and told his dad who did not
17:08 understand he thought opie was not
17:10 telling the truth was telling
17:12 telling a little bit of a lie
17:15 and then later in the episode he met the
17:17 guy and everything worked out fine
17:19 no longer a wooden pole that he was
17:21 climbing up and down
17:23 but it was in this very spot
17:26 here replaced by a much more
17:30 structural stability i will stand a
17:34 little a little more of the test of time
17:36 but here's where he was right up there
17:38 the clear giveaway is the concrete on
17:41 the
17:41 right and the the wooden fence line
17:45 over on the left hand side right there
17:48 and even more of a definitive
17:56 proof is the concrete here on this
17:56 end you can see the height of it there
17:59 and then
18:00 the wooden fence down at the other end
18:02 truck would have been parked in between
18:04 the two
18:05 with the former wooden pole which has
18:08 been replaced
18:10 right there so angle just about
18:14 like that
18:26 television history here
18:26 even without all the tv nostalgia this
18:29 is a very
18:30 beautiful place to take a hike
18:34 enjoy the day
18:42 it's nice out here i have to admit i
18:42 thought i was gonna have a little better
18:43 luck with
18:45 matching everything up it was a tough
18:47 one but this we haven't reached the
18:49 crescendo yet there's still one more
18:50 location where
18:52 most of the angles will be
18:56 will be found it's a few well more than
18:59 a few miles from here
19:00 heading back to the car and going over
19:01 there now yeah i know big the foot it's
19:03 like you were saying earlier there's not
19:05 a lot left and
19:06 a big part of the challenge is finding
19:08 something that is a remnant
19:10 of sorts even though it's only 10 miles
19:12 and take about 30
19:14 31 minutes pretty wild to thank you
19:16 gotta cruise through beverly hills
19:19 in reality to get to the mayberry spots
19:23 arrived in culver city near the site in
19:25 1927 cecil b mills king of kings was
19:27 built
19:29 also used for the gates of king kong
19:32 1932
19:35 and the burning city of atlanta for gone
19:37 with the wind
19:44 and a number of other television
19:44 commercials movies a variety of
19:48 subject matters that i am not discussing
19:52 but i am going to talk about what used
19:53 to sit right there
19:55 not only on that very corner but also
19:58 through this entire area which are now
20:02 all buildings used for other productions
20:12 oh things have changed you might find it
20:12 tough to
20:13 believe but i am standing more or less
20:16 give or take a few feet where the
20:18 drugstore was the church building
20:21 would have been right over there and the
20:23 courthouse
20:24 and floyd's barber shop right there
20:31 even these papers are excited they're
20:32 clapping they cannot believe
20:36 their ears i have all the documentation
20:40 here
20:41 i have with the fine-tooth comb gone
20:44 through the
20:45 series tried to find any kind of hints
20:47 to to show
20:49 andy's house front porch prominently
20:51 used
20:52 and a number of other of residential
20:54 homes would have been right over there
20:56 it's on the corner of hayden place and
21:00 high guerra street
21:11 that this was the main area it's almost
21:11 set up the same way this parking lot
21:13 if you're looking at it from an aerial
21:15 view is more or less in the same pattern
21:18 if we follow this along and kind of
21:22 kind of get a good example of what
21:23 mayberry
21:25 where mayberry would have been
21:28 on so many occasions they would be
21:29 standing out
21:31 right there on that little area you know
21:34 in front of the barber shop
21:36 or walking across the street to get
21:38 ourselves a soda pop
21:40 the back lot was maybe about 10 or 15 20
21:43 yards
21:49 from where normal traffic was
21:49 it's closed off to the general public
21:51 there's that there's that hotel the
21:53 four-story hotel
21:55 which you rarely saw from the second
21:57 level up
21:58 that was used quite a bit to pay
22:00 attention over here across the road
22:03 are these angled buildings which are
22:05 still here so if you follow that road
22:07 next to those angled buildings
22:08 it puts you right where i'm currently
22:10 standing still here today
22:13 which you can use as a good you know
22:15 point of reference
22:17 to figure out where we're at looking
22:20 from this angle which would be
22:21 behind where i'm standing facing the
22:24 opposite direction take a peek up here
22:26 you see
22:28 the way this building is designed with
22:30 the the corner structure
22:33 that's right there which means if i
22:36 circle back around this way
22:40 you would be looking up over the back
22:43 end
22:48 of that iconic courthouse this was taken
22:48 years later when the lot was starting to
22:50 fall into disrepair
22:52 not looking so good you can see not
22:55 really a place for interiors in fact
22:57 there was a
22:58 a boat back there wedged behind where
23:01 they would have walked in
23:03 andy and barney would have just
23:05 basically walked right in
23:06 not to the cells but to that boat set
23:10 and there's the church and right up here
23:13 these lights well not these lights but
23:15 these poles
23:16 would have been there where hayden
23:20 now is so the angle would be
23:23 just about like that looking down
23:27 that was then
23:34 this is now most likely not intentional
23:34 but i love the fact that there is
23:36 a barber shop set up right over there
23:39 just on the outskirts
23:41 of where floyd's used to be right there
23:43 through those hedges
23:45 just a gosh just a few feet away nearly
23:48 impossible to pinpoint it down
23:50 to the precise inch but more or less
23:53 the new building back there is the same
23:55 angle
23:56 this is just my assumption take a look
24:00 at this and the reason i am saying
24:04 that it would have been just about you
24:06 know give or take a few feet
24:08 is based on that manhole you see down
24:11 now i am not an expert on you know when
24:14 it comes to
24:14 drainage of streets and construction
24:18 however if we look from this based on
24:20 where i was
24:21 and the aerial views and the episode
24:26 of the tnt goat
24:29 what is seen down
24:32 here you can faintly make out
24:37 a manhole do are manholes
24:40 easily moved like that even though
24:42 pavement is repaved
24:45 will a will an area like that leading
24:50 down
24:50 into the ground stay precise
25:01 i'm thinking yes which by using that as
25:01 coordinates follow this way would have
25:05 gone towards the residential
25:07 street if you looked over this way
25:11 would have been the church building
25:23 all very close just short walk from each
25:23 other
25:24 currently standing right there
25:27 kind of panned back out
25:36 get it from this perspective i'm gonna
25:36 walk up there we're gonna we're gonna do
25:37 the walk
25:39 this is so dang cool rarely seen but i
25:42 did
25:43 catch one little short one or two second
25:46 frame
25:47 of this that shows the back alley now
25:50 this door
25:51 would hypothetically be the little back
25:54 area to the courthouse
25:56 you know where barney would sleep
25:57 sometimes and they had their little
25:59 office in the back of the regular office
26:02 and that would be just a few feet up
26:04 that way i had to go to the far end back
26:06 here just to
26:08 be able to show this building over here
26:11 and what i mean by that is
26:13 was not really supposed to be shown but
26:16 if you look
26:17 up here past the hedge line
26:20 the angle of that building right there
26:24 is the same building there now i'm going
26:27 to zoom in a little closer it is
26:28 obstructed a little bit by
26:30 the leaves and limbs but that's the same
26:33 one that's just
26:35 noticeable for a brief moment so that
26:38 door would have been where
26:40 this new door now is and remember the
26:43 gazebo they were trying to fix
26:44 that would have been placed right around
26:47 in here gosh it was just so much
26:49 activity through the course of the
26:51 entire season that was just on the side
26:52 over here
26:54 and they also had a fake facade that
26:56 kind of went around like a
26:57 almost like a wooden partition and then
27:00 a few other buildings
27:02 that stretched along here that if you
27:05 turn
27:06 the corner and went off to the left
27:08 there you would go down the residential
27:10 another example are the items on the
27:13 outside of the back lot
27:15 behind that partition i was mentioning
27:18 now it has been repainted the
27:21 the building has been repainted back
27:22 there but as he approaches
27:25 this here which is the courthouse
27:29 which would have been in that spot
27:32 let's walk over there and see if any of
27:34 the design of that building in the
27:36 in the distance match up upon closer
27:38 inspection that's definitely it
27:40 how it goes forward towards the road
27:42 there and then
27:43 back just a little bit and then this is
27:45 kind of away
27:47 from the other it's almost like it
27:54 almost like that trying to describe it
27:54 you know it's better just to show it
27:56 makes more sense
28:07 brief moment the lights here on the
28:07 cross streets obviously have been
28:08 updated
28:10 since then but you see this corner quite
28:13 a few times
28:14 an example here looking from the
28:17 drugstore
28:18 up and over you'll see the
28:21 you see what was the old wooden style
28:24 there they tried to obscure them
28:26 with these facades you see these pop up
28:29 on more than one
28:30 occasion right here on hayden
28:34 you have to use some heavy imagination
28:40 i can picture it mostly because it's
28:40 still fresh in my mind
28:42 from years of watching it through my
28:44 youth to my adulthood and then
28:46 the last few months i went through all
28:48 five seasons in order
28:51 but yeah just right here you can just
28:54 picture the cast of characters standing
28:57 next to those pillars
28:59 gosh and then right here was where they
29:01 parked the cruiser
29:03 all the time in this very
29:06 very general vicinity right here
29:10 and then between the two was floyd's
29:12 barber shop which you know more or less
29:15 right about there he could say that that
29:17 was floyd's
29:18 very rarely did they use any interiors
29:21 looking outward onto the street
29:24 they would have on the sound stage they
29:26 would put up either paintings or
29:28 cloth behind it photos of
29:31 this area of what it looked like then
29:33 but there was a couple of occasions for
29:35 example this one right here
29:36 where andy is looking out at barney as
29:39 barney runs off with his arms extended
29:42 that was that was not a that was not a
29:45 painting behind there
29:46 he really was andy really was looking
29:49 out
29:50 from this section across and
29:54 those hills were obscured by some of the
29:56 sets but
29:57 we'll get to that a little bit later to
29:58 be able to see some of them but that is
30:01 that angle there so
30:05 andy was standing right where i am
30:07 looking across at the hotel there which
30:09 was used
30:15 on a few quite a few occasions it's so
30:15 wild
30:16 just waiting for barney to pull up in
30:19 the car
30:19 and park right here they were very they
30:22 were very strict on who could park here
30:24 yeah they were allowed to they gave many
30:27 a tickets
30:29 party gave plenty of tickets to people
30:31 right here
30:32 continuing on past the barber shop then
30:34 you get into the meat market
30:37 fruit stands there was like a
30:41 a small alley that was through here that
30:44 kind of went back
30:45 it was used for quite a few different
30:47 things and then that
30:48 big hotel which was
30:52 right there you could see them going in
30:53 and out of the hotel which would have
30:54 been
30:56 you know just past these these flowers
31:00 shrubs
31:05 wow it's like reliving it all over again
31:05 but seeing it
31:07 through a totally different perspective
31:09 secrets were not kept very well in town
31:12 kind of leaked out that all that money
31:14 was going to be rolling through
31:16 so everyone showed up
31:19 right in this very spot
31:26 this might be a little of a stretch
31:26 could or could not be
31:28 but this corner which is now currently
31:32 that corner pay attention to that
31:33 building past the cross streets
31:37 down there and you'll see
31:40 this little item protruding up over
31:43 the wooden fence line now keep in mind
31:46 this was decades ago
31:48 however that could possibly
31:51 just go in just a little closer it could
31:54 be one of those little pillars there
31:56 and they have just extended them or it
31:58 could just be an
32:00 awful coincidence
32:06 maybe had to do a lot of pausing
32:06 rewinding
32:08 back and forth in order you know to get
32:11 the clues
32:12 gotta get the clues in order they don't
32:15 they don't happen often they just pop up
32:16 when you're least expecting them you
32:18 know you could just be episode after
32:20 episode you're sitting there
32:21 snacking on some stuff having a beverage
32:26 eating some eating some food and it's
32:27 like whoa what's that in the background
32:29 rewind rewind nailed it
32:32 it's very interesting because it's
32:34 unintentional but if you follow the
32:36 the new path line of buildings along how
32:39 this etches out just a little
32:41 is similar to how the theater was next
32:44 to the hotel you can see how that kind
32:46 of
32:46 kind of angles in so you got theater
32:50 you got the hotel there you got floyds
32:53 and the rest of them over there and then
32:55 once you pass
32:56 by the hotel and the theater the road
32:59 continued going
33:00 on which is one of the episodes where
33:02 barney gets his man accidentally
33:04 you know trips up on the on the criminal
33:07 and became the town hero that was just
33:11 right over there they didn't use that
33:13 area a lot but you do see it
33:15 you know on occasion it was right in
33:19 right about to right about to that point
33:23 and then going back to the dumpster was
33:26 that secondary section
33:28 now this is just approximate but within
33:30 a few feet the back side of the hotel is
33:32 where the post office was
33:35 sometimes it was moved around but the
33:37 post office was shown on the
33:38 right over on the opposite side not
33:40 shown of this
33:41 on the hotel which was there and one of
33:45 my favorite moments i have a lot of
33:46 favorite moments
33:47 but barney escorts escorts the lady
33:51 across goes down does a u-turn
33:55 right here very dramatic like you turn
33:58 u-turn u-turn u-turn pulls up
34:02 to the post office right there
34:07 when the darlings were siphoning water
34:09 out of the fountain in front of the
34:10 church building
34:13 that's the section and there's the
34:17 there's the item there in the middle of
34:19 the road again
34:21 and it was getting the attention of some
34:24 of the young ladies
34:26 new to town look down there
34:39 just the little things i get excited
34:39 about
34:45 like a manhole cover that still exists
34:45 gosh i hope that is the same one
34:49 i mean unless they completely repaved
34:51 everything
34:52 shifted the manhole by just a foot or
34:56 two
34:56 either way there was there was a manhole
34:58 in this side i mean it's got to be the
34:59 same one
34:59 has to be to show how close proximity
35:02 everything was
35:03 back to the goat and then residential
35:07 this is just the next frame as they turn
35:09 towards the residential area
35:12 so right there leaving leaving the
35:16 and residential street is right here
35:19 they always said i'll give you a ride
35:21 home i'll pick you up just wait a few
35:22 minutes i'll come pick you up
35:25 you can just walk to work in like two
35:28 seconds
35:30 up on top of that hill are a couple of
35:32 towers
35:34 you can faintly see them there kind of
35:36 silhouetted
35:42 top of that roofline there's father and
35:42 son
35:49 gosh it is windy out here there's the
35:49 towers up there
35:51 going around the the large building that
35:54 was in the middle
35:55 pretty much every angle of it was used
35:57 the bus stop
35:59 would have been seen there
36:02 so if you did the 360 or i'm not gonna
36:04 do a 360 we'll do like a
36:06 almost a 360 around it you would have
36:08 followed it around
36:10 and then if you weren't around to this
36:12 side which was shown on occasion
36:18 at one point it was the franklin
36:18 pharmacy
36:20 and you would see that church right
36:25 as well you could just keep kind of
36:27 circling around if you went around that
36:30 then you would be looking back at the
36:34 and down the residential street
36:49 time to walk over to andy's
36:49 it's a short commute
36:56 a couple hundred yards maybe less
36:56 100 yards i'm not going to be able to
36:58 get in
36:59 to this section it's it's all locked up
37:08 however here's a good landmark up here
37:08 this makes it to be able to match up
37:22 offset from this road
37:22 a little short walk maybe to just about
37:25 there angling that way i can't go past
37:28 that fence
37:30 but looking back the other direction
37:32 from their porch
37:35 you could see this building in the
37:37 distance
37:38 with a very unique indentation
37:41 and some some pipes and whatnot on the
37:46 side
37:47 there a couple of times you were able to
37:49 see this and this is their backyard
37:50 fence now first indication would be
37:56 that the building is that one right
38:00 and it has been remodeled just a little
38:04 i'm not 100 sold on that first theory
38:07 though
38:08 now it very well could be could have
38:10 been repurposed extended just
38:13 a little and it looks to be a little
38:16 more lengthy
38:18 than the indentation shown there however
38:21 i was looking on
38:22 satellite view and there appeared back
38:25 in the day to be another one
38:28 of these types of buildings that was
38:30 connected and adjacent to it
38:33 that sat right here almost to where down
38:37 that little a little pull in where the
38:39 sidewalk
38:40 meets the driveway nonetheless
38:44 andy's house was right there not right
38:47 on the road
38:48 it was maybe 10 feet back set from the
38:51 road
38:53 here's another look at what is under
38:56 what is under appeal discretion
38:59 depending on what your thought process
39:02 is on that could be the one that's still
39:04 standing
39:05 but i'm thinking it was just over here
39:08 a bit
39:20 so if this if you could just go back
39:20 just a tiny bit would be where opie's
39:23 garden was
39:25 where up on the roof
39:28 and he had the handyman who could do not
39:31 right just making so many mistakes
39:33 up in the window always looking out the
39:35 window all that in here you know going
39:37 back
39:38 going back just a few feet and the
39:41 haunted house episode
39:48 would have been right there oh kind of
39:48 where kind of where this
39:50 little walkthrough is that's another
39:52 classic episode great one
39:55 seeing don knotts terrified well all of
39:58 them were
39:58 rather frightened
40:05 in fact you can see those hills behind
40:05 gomer
40:06 that might be a i might be able to line
40:07 that up too couldn't really make it
40:09 happen this big parking structure
40:11 was in the way but i did discover
40:13 another angle looking back
40:15 and you kind of see i'll just show you
40:18 totally different time frame but that is
40:22 that haunted house and that
40:25 is andy's garage and there they are
40:28 you know at a totally supposedly a
40:30 totally different spot
40:32 unbeknownst to his home or the haunted
40:36 house
40:36 but you'll notice the poles back there
40:39 that is
40:40 hayden street which are the poles off
40:44 in the distance there at those cross
40:46 streets
40:47 so if you continue down that way
40:51 take a left you're in mayberry there's
40:53 those poles
40:54 andy's house here haunted house here
40:58 and those hills i gotta line that that
41:00 that gomer shot up
41:01 yeah this is about as close as i can get
41:05 you see above his head there the
41:08 formation i should be
41:09 i should be back over that way
41:12 that this works too
41:19 he doesn't know what he's in for walking
41:19 in there running parallel to this street
41:21 was
41:21 a berm it was an elevated you know dirt
41:25 patch that went up and on the other side
41:28 you know running just right along this
41:31 was a dirt stretch which they use for
41:33 out of town
41:35 scenes for example you know so the
41:37 mayberry sets ended
41:39 right around there this street here
41:43 is that street so that's where i'm
41:46 standing at the moment and there
41:48 was that you know dirt pathway that they
41:52 actually use it a number of times more
41:53 than more than a dozen throughout the
41:55 series
41:57 right along there and it went all the
42:00 way up until the road kind of shifts
42:02 off that way now the wooden poles on
42:04 this side of the road
42:07 shown there have been removed but you
42:09 can see
42:10 on the other side of the berm there are
42:12 a couple of others
42:14 so none on this side but there are
42:17 the old-timey tele-wooden telephone
42:20 poles
42:20 still remaining that you can see
42:24 you have to look very closely but
42:26 they're over there
42:27 when barney stands up to the guy selling
42:29 the goods on the outskirts of towns he
42:31 was on that dirt road
42:32 and there's that berm and there's some
42:35 of those
42:36 some of those telephone poles right
42:38 there you know so you got the
42:40 the elevated area would have been here
42:43 and there are
42:44 some of those some of those poles right
42:47 there but
42:48 right there in the same frame as barney
42:50 if you're ever re-watching
42:51 and you see a dirt road on the outskirts
42:54 of town in the andy griffith you know in
43:00 it would have been right through here
43:10 all of them were right here up ahead
43:10 there the road veers off a little
43:12 as shown there so if we go
43:16 this way i have placed an x where
43:19 wally's was which can't get over there
43:22 either they're
43:23 they're doing something on that far in
43:25 there is a production
43:26 taking place on this end of the property
43:28 but all the way
43:34 over there was where wally's was i
43:34 really find this stuff very fascinating
43:38 maybe part of the appeal is trying to
43:41 discover
43:43 you know what what no longer exists
43:47 could be a big part of it
44:01 for those not not up to the info
44:01 it would be very easy to pass by this or
44:04 heck even show up to work here
44:08 not knowing that you've seen this you've
44:11 seen these on so many
44:12 other occasions a former
44:16 former television life the theater
44:22 the hotel
44:31 there's like a i think it was like a
44:31 vegetable stand a meat
44:33 market meat shop i think it might even
44:36 they may even sold suits
44:39 at one point and then up to floyd's
44:42 barber shop
44:44 right up here which you never see floyd
44:46 ever cut any hair
44:48 he just talks and then they would go to
44:51 another scene
44:52 never see him snip any hair through the
44:55 course of the series
44:57 and there was another floyd before the
45:00 one you might know
45:02 oh yeah i went down the rabbit hole
45:06 sat around and watched all the first
45:08 five seasons
45:09 floyd's i didn't make it through after
45:12 barney left
45:14 i need to continue on and watch the last
45:16 few
45:18 but i thought for the purpose of this
45:21 oh man this right here was the
45:24 think about that gosh
45:27 so dang cool
45:33 i love it in the grand scheme of things
45:35 i don't know
45:37 if if everyone will share my enthusiasm
45:41 when it comes to yeah how exciting this
45:44 this is pretty dang cool
45:47 if you enjoy this particular episode
45:49 give it a big thumbs up it lets me know
