0:06 Welcome everyone. Adam the
0:06 Woo
0:27 here.
0:28 That was intense.
0:30 You ever had this orange crush in a
0:31 bottle? I saw this. I just had to get
0:34 one. But you can't crush an orange crush
0:37 unless you want to decapitate your
0:39 finger regions. It's my second channel.
0:41 Daily vlog channel. It's a daily woo.
0:58 Check out that old barn. Half of it
0:58 standing, the other half decomposing.
1:05 Fair Mount, Indiana. Straight ahead.
1:05 When you think of pop culture icons, you
1:08 usually think of three key people. Let's
1:10 say you go to Hollywood Boulevard and
1:12 you go in those little gift shops, there
1:14 are always an exorbitant amount of
1:17 photos of Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and
1:21 James Dean. And even though James Dean
1:24 has become this massive icon of pop
1:27 culture,
1:29 he was raised and his hometown is right
1:32 here in Indiana.
1:35 Why is there a tornado siren going off?
1:38 That would not be fun.
1:48 Scared me for a second. My gosh. It's
1:48 pretty cool. They have a little bar here
1:50 on the corner called Giant. Of course,
1:52 named after one of the three James Dean
1:55 movies. And that famous shot of James
1:57 Dean standing was right over here on the
1:59 sidewalk. And in the background, you see
2:01 the Fair Mount Bank. I was here about 3
2:03 or four years ago when I did a main
2:04 channel video on the Adam the Woo
2:06 channel. Just search James Dean, Adam
2:08 the Woo, and you can see every single
2:10 spot from every photograph where James
2:13 Dean history is here in town. The last
2:15 time I was here, I was in such a rush
2:16 that I did not get a chance to really
2:18 spend much time at the museums here in
2:20 town. And I want to do that now.
2:32 Okay, my review on this museum.
2:32 Absolutely amazing. Upstairs they have a
2:35 lot of like artifacts from the town
2:36 itself. But then down below they have a
2:39 whole section dedicated to Jim Davis and
2:42 Garfield who is also from here in
2:44 Fairmont. But down on the bottom floor
2:46 there is tons of James Dean artifacts,
2:50 stuff he owned, stuff from his movies.
2:53 They even had the monkey and the knives
2:55 from Rebel Without a Cause that
2:57 completely blew my mind. as well as the
3:00 guard railing from the mansion from the
3:03 movie Giant and then other things, other
3:05 little things he had in his possession
3:07 as he was growing up and his family had.
3:10 Super cool. If you're ever in Fairmont,
3:12 check out that museum. Totally worth
3:15 checking out. The back alleys of James
3:17 Dean Stomping Grounds.
3:20 There's another museum here, too. The
3:22 James Dean Gallery, Museum, and Gift
3:25 Shop. You're so handsome, James. I know.
3:38 There's a picture of his old high school
3:38 that they tore down a few years ago. I
3:41 may or may not have snuck in the
3:43 abandoned building when I was here last
3:45 time. This is a recreation of the
3:47 intersection where James Dean died in
3:50 California. And that would be James
3:52 Dean's car right there.
3:56 Of
3:59 course, a recreation of the famous scene
4:00 from Rebel Without a Cause when James
4:02 Dean is jumping over the fence to talk
4:06 to Natalie Wood.
4:09 Oh, according to this, it's the original
4:11 gate.
4:13 Holy cow. It's the original gate from
4:16 Los Angeles right here. Wow. Look at
4:19 that. No way. Now that's cool. When East
4:23 of Eden was premiering, the grocery bags
4:26 here in town displayed an advertisement
4:29 for the film. How cool is that? That is
4:32 small town life right there. Proud of
4:34 their favorite son. And I think it's
4:37 necessary to wear sunglasses inside. Is
4:40 this what James Dean
4:43 What was that? This James Dean mask.
4:46 It's kind of terrifying. Here's a
4:48 newspaper article. And that's the spot I
4:50 was at earlier. See, there's the bank
4:51 and there's that really cool structure
4:53 and that's that alley I was standing in.
4:55 That museum was super awesome. One cool
4:57 thing about this town as well, if you
4:58 are a fan of the Smiths, Morrisy, when
5:01 he quit the band and started doing his
5:03 solo stuff, he flew from England here to
5:05 do his first music video as quote
5:08 unquote Morrisy without the other Smith
5:11 members. and he went to all the James
5:13 Dean spots, including the museum,
5:17 and they gave me a photo copy from 1988
5:22 of Morrisy. Look at this. Morrisy
5:26 signing
5:27 the guest registry.
5:31 That's cool. The sign says closed for
5:33 the winter, but based on what I'm seeing
5:36 before my eyes, I think it's going to be
5:38 closed a little bit longer than
5:41 seasonally. Here's the old stairs
5:43 leading into what was the high school
5:45 where James Dean attended. And since the
5:48 last time I was here years ago, they
5:50 have bulldozed the entire thing. When I
5:52 was here last time, I went inside the
5:55 school before they started to demolish
5:57 it and tried to get to the second floor.
5:59 Unfortunately, the stairway had fallen
6:01 in and I couldn't do it because on the
6:03 second floor, the classroom that sat
6:05 right up here was James Dean's classroom
6:08 and Moresy when he did that music video
6:11 signed you can't go home again on the
6:14 chalkboard. So, somewhere here in this
6:17 rubble is that chalkboard.
6:20 Man, it's like finding a needle in a hay
6:22 stack. Looks like a piece of an old
6:24 locker right there. Look at that.
6:27 That's cool.
6:42 stopping off now at the final resting
6:42 place of James Dean. And you can see
6:46 people have left little momentos there.
6:48 And just like Maryland's grave in Los
6:50 Angeles, people kiss the headstone. I
6:53 would wager to say that this is probably
6:55 the most popular grave in the cemetery.
6:57 In fact, there are two women there who
7:00 are stopping to pay their respects and
7:02 probably leave their lipstick marks.
7:04 There's like an entire parade.
7:11 He's very popular. If you ever been to
7:11 California and to Los Angeles, the
7:13 Griffith Observatory has a statue,
7:16 basically a bus, the head of James Dean.
7:19 And there are only two of those in
7:21 existence. One in Los Angeles and one
7:25 directly across the street.
7:27 right there.
7:35 I get excited about the most simple
7:36 things. And to be at both James Dean
7:39 statues within a month of each other
7:41 because I was at Griffith Observatory
7:43 like a month ago and to be at the one
7:44 here in Indiana and there's only two of
7:46 them in existence. It's kind of cool,
7:49 right? I think so. For anyone that lives
7:52 near Hollywood or is visiting the
7:54 Griffith Observatory, when you go there
7:56 next time, take a look on the side of
7:58 the bust and see if it is dated 1955
8:03 like this one. I'm kind of curious.
8:06 That is so cool. Whoa, there's an old
8:09 Hurst right there. It's all beat up and
8:11 rusted and worn out. So, this is a
8:13 pretty good opportunity to take the
8:15 drone up in the air and get a bird's eye
8:17 view of James Dean's hometown. And lest
8:20 us not forget Jim Davis, who was the
8:23 creator also of Garfield. They both
8:26 lived in this tiny town wandering
8:29 around. This is their stomping grounds,
8:31 if you will. Just basically a couple
8:34 blocks of downtown. I think there's only
8:36 one traffic light. There's a record
8:38 store. There's a couple bars, a little
8:40 diner, a bank. Small town life at its
8:44 finest. Just to think that James Dean
8:46 went on to become the cultural icon that
8:49 he is. Known in Hollywood, known in New
8:51 York City. People don't even realize he
8:54 was from this very small town. Oh,
8:57 Fairmounts.
8:59 Good to see you again. Till next time.
9:03 Be very quiet.
9:06 Be very quiet. They're sleeping.
9:15 Don't ruin it. Go back to sleep, Zoe. Go
9:15 back to sleep. Take a nap.
9:18 Lay your head down.
9:21 Lay your head down. Pretend you're
9:23 sleeping.
9:27 Put your head down. Pretend you're
9:29 Zoe, get with the program. Put your head
9:32 down.
9:39 Put your head back down. What does this
9:41 weirdo do?
9:43 Put your head down.
9:55 Don't look at her. Put your head down.
9:55 Pretend you're sleeping.
