0:04 Welcome everyone. I'm in the desert of
0:04 California today in a little area called
0:06 Banning. And right off of the freeway is
0:09 this massive abandoned complex. Now,
0:12 upon review from the road, it looks like
0:14 people have actually moved in and set up
0:17 camp inside this facility. So, we might
0:20 have to tread a little bit lightly.
0:23 Let's go check it out. Join me, shall
0:26 you?
0:29 WE DON'T even ask [music] you.
0:47 First thing we notice is that this
0:47 property is for sale and it's actually
0:50 surrounded by this gate, but the gate is
0:52 completely wide open. And you can see
0:55 they boarded up quite a few of the
0:57 windows at least in this building in
1:00 that beautiful mountain range in the
1:02 background. But over here there are
1:05 plenty of accessible buildings that have
1:07 either not been finished or the windows
1:09 have been busted out of
1:12 some sort of trap door here or
1:16 passageway that leads under the ground.
1:18 And this has actually been labeled cobs.
1:21 Maybe down there there are cobwebs
1:23 or maybe some delicious corn on the cob.
1:27 Wouldn't that be a little
1:30 little screwy?
1:44 This is kind of strange, too. This is
1:44 actually made out of foam. You can see
1:47 this is actually foam here. Any idea
1:49 what maybe this was in a former life.
2:10 You can see at one time whatever
2:10 developer built this had some big plans
2:13 and expected this to be a lot more
2:15 thriving than it is now. And look up
2:17 here. There's actually some really cool
2:18 tile. Pretty nice decor across the top
2:23 of the roof and down here. And of
2:24 course, it's been tagged up.
2:27 Are those patunias?
2:46 Looks like there's some water.
2:46 that has been uh definitely accumulating
2:49 down there.
2:51 Some nasty water down at the bottom of
2:53 that hole.
3:21 This possibly could have been a
3:22 switchboard for maybe a phone. Maybe it
3:24 went inside of here. The electrical
3:29 aspect of this.
3:37 Or maybe not. Maybe part of a computer.
3:37 I don't really see anywhere where a
3:39 computer
3:45 would have been out here though.
3:45 Strange.
4:38 Normally I would walk upstairs like
4:38 this, but you can see it's all burned
4:40 out. In fact, look at the roof. If I was
4:42 to actually put my
4:45 semi overweight body up on those boards
4:49 and those studs, you would see me fall
4:53 directly to the ground. So, let's not do
4:55 that. But look, look at this.
5:09 There's actually quite a few people who
5:09 have set up residence here on the back
5:11 side of the property. I don't want to
5:12 get too close and disturb them because I
5:15 don't really want any altercations or I
5:16 don't want to really disturb their
5:18 privacy in the home that they have
5:20 built, but it looks like part of the
5:22 backside there was actually a fire that
5:24 destroyed one of the buildings. Not
5:26 really sure if that happened because of
5:28 the residents who have actually moved in
5:30 the squatters and the homeless that have
5:32 lived here, but let's go see if we can
5:34 get a little bit of a closer look and
5:36 see what happens.
5:39 Do the police uh come out here and give
5:41 you a hard time?
5:42 Yeah, Banny PD cuz they want their taxes
5:44 or whatever, but
5:46 And how long have you been out here?
5:47 Huh?
5:48 How long have you been out here?
5:49 I've been here all my life and I still
5:50 ain't ready to know.
5:51 How long have you lived in this in this
5:53 property?
5:53 Oh, about a month. about a month or so.
5:56 Wow. I always heard of the compound, but
5:58 I never been down here until I came down
5:59 here. I'm like, "Oh my god, what the
6:01 hell?"
6:01 So, they call this the compound.
6:02 Mhm.
6:04 And you're far enough off the road where
6:05 no one really knows you're back here.
6:07 True.
6:08 But there's there's people back here.
6:13 I've been here about a month and a half.
6:16 A month and a half.
6:17 Yeah. Almost two months.
6:19 You live in Sano?
6:21 No, I I came from San Jose.
6:23 San Jose? Yeah, but I stayed I grew up
6:26 in San Pedro for a little something.
6:28 I've been to the sunken city in San
6:29 Pedro.
6:30 Yeah.
6:30 It's pretty cool.
6:32 How many people live here now?
6:34 About 50.
6:35 50.
6:36 About 50. So all up in here and then all
6:40 through these buildings.
6:47 She's giving herself the name
6:47 Tinkerbell. The girl that lives here.
6:49 This Tinker Bell. She picked it up.
6:52 Tinker Bell. Are you a Disney fan or
6:54 just a
6:55 bored? I'm gonna go to Mickey Mouse.
6:57 I got uh this is a compound as you know.
7:00 And this is my upstairs. I
7:03 go ahead. I have
7:05 Okay. This is nice.
7:07 She fixed it up herself.
7:08 Go upstairs.
7:09 Yeah. Tell it.
7:10 Go ahead.
7:11 She even has strip shows.
7:13 You have strip shows in here.
7:15 Everything in here is I found from the
7:19 uh I found as in um trash. Oh,
7:22 just on the side of the road and
7:24 dumpsters and stuff
7:25 in this compound.
7:26 Oh, in the compound itself.
7:27 This I found and brought it up here and
7:32 and cleaned it up.
7:34 Yeah, that's nice. That's like from an
7:36 old diner almost.
7:38 This was actually the other way. You
7:39 know what I mean? But I brought it up
7:41 here and then I uh put these boards up
7:44 here and either they was going to be
7:45 halfed half full. I said, "Well, look
7:47 it." That way I can look in the comp
7:48 now.
7:49 Yeah. So if someone sneaks up on you,
7:51 you can sneak in.
7:53 Do you have a lot of police officers
7:54 show up here?
7:55 Oh, yeah. They're trying to kick us out.
7:57 But if we're bitter in the place, how
7:59 can they do such a thing?
8:00 Hey, you're making it look better than
8:01 it does outside. So you put the blanket
8:03 there to keep the air out.
8:04 Yeah. And then and then when I light
8:07 fire or whatever, I just
8:08 pull this back like this.
8:11 Something like that.
8:13 I like it. You got the place fixed up
8:15 pretty nice.
8:15 Yeah. You guys see my room?
8:17 Oh yeah.
8:18 shower slash new seal. I like
8:21 this is a slash uh shower and buckets of
8:25 feces. You know what I mean? To get
8:27 right. Yeah. The bathroom and the
8:28 shower.
8:28 We got pee bucket. We got wash bucket.
8:30 We got This is how we shower. And then I
8:32 sweep the water out and wash my floor.
8:35 Okay.
8:36 And this is my bedroom.
8:37 Now, how do you get water? Like where do
8:39 you get water from?
8:40 Recycling or This is actually a
8:43 bathroom. [laughter]
8:43 I like that.
8:44 This was actually a bathroom. It's messy
8:46 right now. God, I'm embarrassed to let
8:49 you see it. But I This is my my bedroom.
8:52 Oh, wow. I like Tinker Bell.
8:54 Yeah, I'm Tinkerbell. That's what they
8:56 call.
8:56 You got a bed in here and everything?
8:58 Yeah, but I just pushed everything in
8:59 here because we had to move out right
9:01 away. They told us over they were going
9:03 to um But I just painted in here. I just
9:06 painted and I was going to hang up
9:07 everything. I have like I got stuff to
9:10 hang up everything. I had stuff on the
9:12 walls. I'm painting the walls right now.
9:14 So, what do the police tell you when
9:15 they show up? Like, what is what do they
9:16 what do they say to you?
9:18 We got to get out. When I first came, I
9:20 had to barricade myself in here. I
9:22 didn't know how to enclose everything.
9:23 So, I found this
9:26 and I
9:28 barricade. And this this is what makes
9:31 it where they can't open the door.
9:33 This is where they can't open.
9:34 So, you stay safe in,
9:36 right? And then so you're not worried
9:38 frame. And
9:39 Oh, did you make that? Did you find that
9:40 right there?
9:41 What? That little uh tiki girl. The
9:44 skull.
9:44 Oh, that's what I got for my birthday.
9:46 Oh, that's cool.
9:47 These guys fixed it up and put it in my
9:49 front porch. My birthday gift. And um
9:53 that's awesome.
9:53 I love it to death.
9:54 Oh, you got a doorbell.
10:02 It goes around here. See?
10:02 And all the stuff you found in the
10:03 trash.
10:04 That's amazing. And did you have to find
10:06 a battery for it or did you have a
10:08 battery for it?
10:08 No, batteries. And I I dropped batteries
10:11 like picking them up. I had a door lock
10:13 right here. I had to But the cops kicked
10:15 it in.
10:16 The cops kicked it out.
10:17 Yeah. So I fixed it and I kicked it in a
10:20 couple times. So I I turn around and I
10:22 just get it a new door and I drag it
10:24 over here. But these doors are so heavy.
10:26 Yeah. Heavy duty door.
10:26 So I got to put a new lock on here. But
10:28 Oh yeah. Solid.
10:29 Yeah. So it's they're heavy. But I I
10:31 pretend like I have a little security
10:33 system but and I love it.
10:36 And then I
10:36 I love your house. Very cool. It's not
10:39 all that great right now cuz it's a
10:41 mess. And
10:41 so this is what it looked like before
10:42 people pooped on the walls and
10:43 street. And I went in there and I just
10:45 cleaned it up and said,
10:47 "So you'd be pretty disappointed if they
10:49 kicked you off the property after you
10:50 did all this work to your house."
10:51 So that's why my bedroom was so messy is
10:52 cuz they did they they put these tags
10:54 all over. If you you see the front, I'll
10:56 show you.
10:57 I saw the paper saying you can't be
10:58 here.
10:59 And and you know what? It's sad because
11:01 you know some of this artwork is
11:02 beautiful. These people got real talent.
11:05 I think cuz they steal. People steal and
11:08 you can't keep them out.
11:09 So it's like you have your own private
11:10 stove.
11:11 This is a stove and then I'm hooked up
11:13 to the gas and I pull this out and I put
11:14 this in there and I put all that stuff
11:17 right there and I hook my own gas up. So
11:19 you got your own stove
11:21 hooked up to that gas line right there.
11:22 That gas line. And it's hooked up all
11:24 the way to the main line. I'm the only
11:27 one that's hooked up like that. I got
11:28 teflon tape and I have a whole bunch of
11:30 it to be able to That's how I
11:32 That's pretty genius. This is and this
11:33 is hooked up to my is it a like a
11:36 converter a amp thing where I could plug
11:39 in a light or whatever. I plug it into
11:41 this and I plug into my light.
11:45 Well, this video took a different twist
11:47 than I had originally planned. I thought
11:49 I was just going to film an abandoned
11:50 location, but I made some new friends
11:52 that were veryospitable and showed me
11:54 the way they have actually set up this
11:57 property to live basically for free. And
12:00 since they don't have any money, I've
12:02 decided to drive down to the store and
12:03 actually get them some supplies that
12:05 actually might be useful to them. So,
12:08 I'm going down to the store now to grab
12:10 some stuff. Stopped off and got a case
12:12 of water, 12-pack of Dr. Pepper, uh a
12:16 pack of cigarettes. Someone asked for
12:17 some cigarettes, and some peanut butter
12:20 and jelly, and some bread in there as
12:22 well. So, we're back at the compound, as
12:25 they're calling it. So, let's drop the
12:27 stuff off. Is that going to be good for
12:29 Yeah, for me. Yeah, this for me.
12:31 Well, you got to share with everybody.
12:32 Okay. Okay.
12:33 Share with Tina and what was the other
12:34 other girl's name?
12:35 Melissa.
12:36 Melissa. Yeah. Share with Melissa and uh
12:37 Tina.
12:38 Okay, I'll do that.
12:38 All right, buddy.
12:40 Okay, I've dropped off the stuff and
12:42 heading out.
12:45 Kind of makes you think and makes you
12:46 grateful for
12:48 our lives, especially my life. Puts
12:50 things in perspective.
12:53 All right, heading out. Thanks for
12:54 watching this video.
12:57 See you guys later. Goodbye.
