The Abandoned Mountain Top Pool In Griffith Park

0:12 discovered that the very tip-top based

0:15 on satellite view Google Images when you

0:18 scroll through there is an abandoned

0:20 pool at the very tip-top of Griffith

0:24 Park and very few people have documented

0:27 very few and I'm gonna be one of them

0:31 and right over here it's cow Angus for a

0:38 future reference anyone else that wants

0:40 to do this hike we parked in a parking

0:42 lot down by the old Zoo and so far we've

0:46 made it about a hundred yards up and

0:49 we're heading down this little access

0:50 road looks as if the gate has been left

0:53 open we keep going up this dirt where'd

0:58 you call it

0:59 not a lot of water in this retention

1:02 runoff but enough condensation to create

1:07 mud someone who's tracked her out in

1:10 there it wasn't me there's no mud on my

1:13 shoes it's almost like quicksand

1:15 probably wouldn't be wise to Tromp

1:18 around down there I don't know if it

1:20 shows up appropriately on camera but

1:21 this is quite the incline for the Sardar

1:25 he was winded as I am oh yes 30 degree

2:41 that direction as best I can tell off on

2:44 the horizon on the top of that hill to

2:48 the left is Forest Lawn Glendale where

2:59 on the left you see the cross barely on

3:03 top of the mausoleum this falls into the

3:05 category a bit of a hike that

3:08 terminology applies to this because this

3:11 it's definitely a hike you have to be

3:13 have to be in decent shape unlike unlike

3:17 me are you in decent shape huh I try I

3:20 usually view about 10 miles a day

3:22 walking but not uphill like this you

3:28 know you're not in the best physical

3:29 shape of your life when you're out of

3:31 breath walking while others are just

3:35 jogging up and down the side of a

3:38 mountain like it's no big deal from a

3:40 distance I was very curious what this

3:42 was but now I'm a little closer it's

3:46 like a feed sack over the top of a fire

3:49 hydrant I think these are technically

3:51 fire roads that have been converted

3:53 basically to hiking trails but emergency

3:57 vehicles can make their way up here

3:59 whenever there are fires I believe we

4:04 are now making first visual contact of

4:08 the pool

4:09 right down there

4:13 zoom in just a bit in between all those

4:16 power lines there it is tucked away it's

4:23 not the very tip-top of the mountain but

4:25 pretty dang close kind of in the little

4:27 canyon area we have to find a way to get

4:31 over there there's got to be a path this

4:35 is where Nina Jones style adventures

4:37 gonna start separating ourselves from

4:43 the kind of sorta main dirt road under

4:48 this other path heading upward this is

4:52 more like a drainage ditch or a rain

4:55 gully more than a pathway staying the

5:01 course and now exiting that small path

5:04 onto an even smaller path that goes

5:08 downward you think there's snakes in

5:11 there I knew this was gonna be a bit of

5:14 a check but this a little bit more well

5:19 they're stairs

5:19 look there's stairs right there that

5:23 makes it a little easier yes and where

5:26 we're heading it's in sight I was not

5:29 expecting to find an old wooden

5:32 staircase amongst the shrubbery but

5:36 every little bit helps I got used to

5:48 those stairs now that I don't have them

5:51 oh there's more stairs down there but

5:55 this little section didn't have any eggs

5:56 very slick I'm not sure if he can really

6:00 tell how steep that have started way up

6:03 there past that tree line this whole

6:05 section here was very slick really hard

6:09 to gain your footing but now magically

6:11 the stairs the stairs are back I am at

6:15 one with the rock formations

6:24 this probably produced a magnificent

6:27 waterfall or streaming waterway at some

6:31 point we're still heading very close to

6:34 our destination but look at this we have

6:37 to cross this what the heck is this even

6:41 structurally sound there is no way that

8:11 rotting wood this little wading area of

8:15 sorts

8:23 exploring Griffith Park and found this

8:28 someone has removed the diving board you

8:32 just imagine people swimming up here

8:34 enjoying the view diving off into the

8:37 pool and doing their laps pretty random

8:42 this thing all the way up here in the

8:43 hills without a doubt not the first

8:45 person to make this Trek because there's

8:48 some graffiti marked up here and some

8:53 signs of other explorers but not many

8:58 you're a braver man that all that muck

9:02 down there you just know this flies I

9:06 didn't even know there were bugs in

9:07 California after all they're all up here

9:10 I take that back they're bees those are

9:13 those are bees they seem harmless I know
