0:03
Welcome everyone. Adam
0:03
the Woo here coming to you from a very
0:05
fantastic place by the name of Salvation
0:07
Mountain. A place that I have actually
0:09
not laid my eyes upon in well over a
0:13
year or two.
0:15
It's my second channel, daily vlog
0:17
channel. It's the Daily Woo and I am
0:19
joined by Jacob the Carpet Bagger.
0:21
YouTube's own Jacob the Carpet Bagger
0:24
and you are from the east coast and when
0:25
you came out to visit me you've been
0:27
hanging out with me for a couple days
0:28
and you will be here the rest of the
0:29
week and you said to me there's one
0:32
place that I have always wanted to go
0:36
Salvation Mountain
0:37
and I said let's go said heck it let's
0:40
go
0:40
heck it I said heck it let's go so we
0:44
are now standing at the threshold of
0:46
Leonard Knight's creation and look at
0:49
this guy coming behind
0:56
He He was rocking. He was playing some
0:56
some music. Slab City is right over
0:59
there. The fantastic Slab City. One day
1:02
I will do a full video of Slab City. I
1:04
will come out here with my microphone
1:05
and interview people. I have been to
1:07
Salvation Mountain before a couple years
1:09
ago with my friend Justin from Live Fast
1:11
on the Adam the Woo channel. You can
1:13
just look up Salvation Mountain. Adam
1:15
the Woo. But I wanted to come back now
1:18
two years almost three years later from
1:21
when I was here with Justin and actually
1:23
see how Salvation Mountain is coming
1:26
along in years and see if anything has
1:29
changed and how well it is being
1:31
manicured and kept up. And we're going
1:33
to go check that out right now.
1:40
Salvation
1:40
Mountain. I love this place. What do you
1:45
got there?
1:47
Brown.
1:48
Brown bread raisin beans. That sounds
1:50
disgusting. Brown
1:54
raisin
1:55
beans. So, basically, Salvation Mountain
1:58
was the creation of a gentleman by the
2:00
name of Leonard Knight, who
2:02
unfortunately passed away a couple years
2:04
ago. And when I visited out here with
2:06
Justin, he was actually sick and he was
2:10
actually, I think, either in a nursing
2:12
home or he was spending time in a
2:14
hospital. My whole original plan was to
2:17
come out here and actually interview
2:18
him. I'm a big fan of people who take it
2:20
upon themselves to create something, to
2:23
actually dedicate their life to
2:25
something. It doesn't really matter what
2:26
their beliefs are per se, but just the
2:28
fact that they are dedicating their life
2:31
to something they are very passionate
2:32
about, that means a lot to me. And that
2:35
is what Leonard Knight did when he
2:37
created this fantastic place. Basically,
2:41
Salvation Mountain is made out of sand
2:44
from the desert. It is made out of hay
2:47
bales. So, this whole thing is made of
2:49
hay and sand and paint. There is enough
2:53
paint out here to cover so much terrain,
2:57
but this paint is so deep and thick that
3:01
it keeps the mountain together. You can
3:04
see how it's clumped together. The paint
3:07
is keeping all of this together. Look,
3:11
it is almost like fiberglass. The paint
3:13
is so layered and thick. And here is
3:15
some of the paint buckets here that they
3:18
are using. So basically you have the
3:20
paint here, black paint, yellow paint,
3:24
green paint, and here are those hay
3:27
bales that make up not only the
3:29
mountain, but also this other little
3:31
area right over in that area. So I'm
3:35
going to walk around this way. I'm not
3:38
going to try to spend too terrible
3:39
amount of time have a too long of a vlog
3:43
showing off Salvation Mountain because
3:45
I've already done that. But this is just
3:47
kind of like bringing you into what
3:49
today's adventure is and kind of an
3:51
update on what is actually happening.
3:53
And you can actually see there's a heavy
3:55
piece of machinery coming in probably to
3:58
maybe move some sand around to actually
4:00
fix some things on the mountain. Even
4:02
though litter knight has actually passed
4:04
on, his memory is still being preserved
4:07
through volunteers and people that are
4:09
either working out here or living out
4:11
here or people who are over living at
4:14
Slab City just over the horizon. So,
4:18
Salvation Mountain hours are from sunset
4:21
to sun. Actually, from sunrise to
4:24
sunset.
4:25
Basically, don't hang out here in the
4:26
middle of the night.
4:27
Do not want to hang All the vampires.
4:29
All the vampire vampires. The vampires
4:31
could come out at night.
4:33
They rise from the sand.
4:34
They the sand vampires. So, just look.
4:37
Look at how awesome.
4:38
Salvation Mountain Junior.
4:40
That Oh, yeah. Look, there's a little
4:41
teeny Salvation Mountain. But just look,
4:44
look at that. That is awesome.
4:58
And I apologize in advance for the wind.
4:58
It's very windy out here in the desert.
5:01
So, if you cannot hear it, please bear
5:02
with it. I apologize for the amount of
5:04
wind. Look at this car here.
5:15
Very cool. Lots of vehicles out here. A
5:15
boat. Very, very cool. What I really
5:18
want to show is inside of this mountain.
5:23
Of course, the most famous thing that
5:24
people always refer this to is the movie
5:28
Into the Wild. That kind of gained
5:31
popularity in the status quo in the pop
5:34
culture community, the mainstream, if
5:36
you will. If you've ever seen the movie
5:38
Into the Wild, Leonard Knight was
5:40
actually the older gentleman who's
5:42
actually in the movie. He didn't even
5:44
realize they were filming.
5:46
He was in they didn't tell him.
5:47
They real I mean, he was filming, but he
5:49
didn't realize they were making a major
5:51
motion picture. Of course, he got
5:52
probably a waiver to be in that. And a
5:54
lot of the scenes were actually filmed
5:56
right inside.
5:57
Threw him a few buckets of paint to
5:59
right inside of there. So, let's go
6:02
inside.
6:03
Let's go inside Salvation Mountain.
6:21
This is really cool. Lots of artifacts.
6:21
People come out here and leave Bibles
6:23
and pictures and notes to Leonard here
6:27
at Salvation Mountain.
6:34
You can see here the hay. So, it's all
6:34
made of hay and paint.
6:44
They have some signs there saying no
6:44
climbing. So, this is my favorite part.
6:47
This is my favorite part of Salvation
6:49
Mountain. Right over in here. And look
6:52
at this. Here is a here is a homage to
6:55
Leonard Knight right here. So, here is
6:58
an homage to Leonard Knight.
7:13
Look at how awesome this is. This is
7:13
incredible. And there are actually
7:15
pictures and video of Leonard when he
7:17
was alive scaling as an older gentleman
7:20
was scaling the tops of these, climbing
7:22
around in these rafteres type pieces of
7:25
wood.
7:26
These aren't trees, I don't think. I
7:27
think these are like pieces of wood.
7:29
Like
7:29
they're pieces of Yeah, they're pieces
7:31
of wood with the paint locking them
7:33
together right there.
7:40
And see, originally they were going to
7:40
keep building on. Leonard had this whole
7:43
dream of making it this massive place.
7:44
And of course, he passed away before it
7:46
was actually finished. But you can
7:47
actually see all the hay up there, the
7:50
unfinished hay, the unpainted hay. Oh
7:53
yeah, look at this. A picture of Leonard
7:55
right there. That is awesome.
8:00
So there you go. There's Leonard Knight,
8:02
the creator of Salvation Mountain.
8:12
Very cool.
8:12
Just look at this. This is awesome.
8:28
See, that is super super cool. And this
8:28
is like a weave of colorful artistic
8:31
goodness. You can see the paint starting
8:33
to break apart. So basically volunteers
8:35
will now come in and they will reglue
8:38
that with paint to make all this a
8:40
little bit more solid.
8:51
So pretty cool. Okay, so you were going
8:51
to be filming a video for the Carpet
8:53
Bagger channel. Probably won't be up for
8:54
a week or two. No.
8:55
But subscribe to the Carpet Bagger. Go
8:58
watch my old video. Just look up
9:00
Salvation Mountain Adam the Woo. You can
9:03
see when Justin Scard and I came out
9:05
here. You can see what it looked like
9:06
then. Thanks for joining me in this
9:08
unedited vlog, a vlog I do every single
9:10
day. Please subscribe. Check down below
